Use of iCloud abroad

Do I need to switch of iCloud when I travel abroad or it is enough to switch of data roaming?

.. be sure to call AT&T and enable your account for international use. They have a "WorldTraveler" service that you can purchase for $5.99 a month that gives you discounted phone call service. I think there is also a similar international package for for data and/or text messaging. BTW, I think incoming text messages are covered under your text message plan but outgoing text messages are about 50 cents per txt message and $1.30 for photo or video messages.
..be sure you know the difference between enabling your phone to make international calls from the states (WorldConnect) vs. making international calls (WorldTraveler) from China. These are different plans.
See http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/international/roaming/faq.jsp/ and http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/international/roaming/affordable-world-package s.jsp/
Also see http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/international/roaming/iphone-travel-tips.jsp/ These are great b/c it will tell you how to setup your phone so you don't get charged for services you really don't need while in China.
Another tip, if you receive alot of "subscribed" email messages from state-side web sites for bill notices or advertisements etc. you may want to start "unsubscribing" now so that you don't get billed for them while in China. It can be a jungle out there internationally so study up on this stuff ahead of time.
If you do have to make phone calls to the states from China, go into Address Book now and insert +1 ahead of every area code in your Address Book. This is the dialing code to call a US phone number. Then Sync your Address Book to your iPhone. I was at Tiananmen Square and emailed pictures of us to friends.. it was fun to do.

  • How can I use multiple icloud Accounts with Fotos?

    Hello.
Yesterday, my wife and I started using the new App "Fotos" on OSX and iOS.
What I can't figure out, and where I would like to get some insight and help, is how we should use our icloud Accounts.
    How it is right now:
    - Wife (MacBook and iPhone)
Has her own icloud-Account ([email protected]) for Backup (iOS) and Fotosync, Keychainsync, Bookmarks. 20GB iCloud-Account (18GB free).
    - Husband (MacBook, Mac Mini and iPhone and iPad)
Has his own icloud-Account ([email protected]) for Backup (iOS) and Fotosync, Keychainsync, Bookmarks. 20GB iCloud Account (10 GB free).
    - Husband has about 400 GB of Photos from over 10 Years on Mac Mini
How I want it to be:
    - Husband
upgrades to at least the 500GB Account, to use for all 400GB of Photos and Backup, Keychainsync, Bookmarks.
    - Wife
Has her own Account ([email protected]) for Keychain and Bookmark, but uses [email protected] on MacBook and iPhone for Backup an Fotosync, so that all Photos are stored in a single one family "container". All Photos in one Place without being able to forget to put them there.
I don't see, how I can accomplish that, since only one "real" icloud account seems to be possible in iOS, so that if i put my account in her iPhone I would get the Photo and Backup I want, but she would not be able to sync her own bookmarks an keychain any more.
Any thought on how to resolve this?
    Am I missing something?
    Thanks for your ideas,
    thomas

Yes, you could have multiple iCloud accounts for Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Safari, Notes, and Find My iPhone, but only one primary iCloud account for Photo Stream, Documents & Data, and Storage & Backup.

  • How can i use one iCloud Photostream on 2 devices?

Due to a bug (or feature) on iOS 8 i can't use the same icloud id on 2 iphones:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6536998
So how can i use ONE iCloud Photostream then on 2 devices?
Also, on OSX i can define only one Photostream.
So, how do you import pictures from 2 streams into iPhoto?
Familyshare is not usefull as the pictures are not in Original-Filesize!

    Hi ..
Yes. " iPhone 6 or 6 Plus.  iPad Air 2  or  iPad mini 3"
Set up and use Apple Pay

  • Can I use my icloud information on a second ipad

Can I access my icloud music photos etc from a second ipad

    Yes.
However music has nothing to do with iCloud. For music, make sure you log into iTunes using the same Apple ID you use for iTunes on your first iPad. For photo strean, cantacts and the like, make sure you log into iCloud using the same Apple ID you use for iCloud on your first iPad.

  • Why can't I use my icloud email for my apple ID?

I want to get rid of my old email address and only use icloud but Apple ID says I cannot use my icloud email address. Why would they offer icloud email if a user cannot use it as their primary address?

You can use iCloud as your primary email, just keep the other as a backup.
It really isn't a good idea to rely on just one email address in case you get an unexpected problem, for example:

  • Why did a game app use my iCloud storage when I have iCloud backup turned off?

I have a game app that I just bought but when I looked in my settings under iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage then under Documents & Data I noticed that game had used some iCloud space. I have iCloud backup off but in settings>iCloud Documents & Data is on along with few other ones like Contacts, Calendars, Reminders...etc. I'm curios if this game app is using the 5 gigabytes of free space I have that's not even on for backup?  What documents & data actually get stored when Documents & Data are turned on?  I totally understand the Contacts, Reminders, Bookmarks, Notes, Photostream...etc but somebody explain please what Documents & Data stores. Thanks.
    Tommy V.

The weather app that came with my iPhone 4s will sync with my iPod touch 4th generation weather app that it came with also.  For example, if I add a city like Las Vegas on my iPhone then when I go to my iPod Touch, Las Vegas will be there as well.  Also for example if i restore my iPhone or iPod touch clean, the weather data all appears there.  All the cities that I've added for weather are there.

  • I lost my iPhone device, how can I get my data back on another one without using an iCloud backup just back up on i Tunes, Please Help.

I lost my iPhone device, how can I get my data back on another one without using an iCloud backup just back up on i Tunes, Please Help.??

You can find the backup files and then copy them to a safe place if you are worrying about this.
iTunes places the backup files in these places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, hold Option and click the Go menu.
    Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then press Return.
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, then choose Run. In the search bar, type %appdata%, then click OK.

  • Using iWork, iCloud for ultra-portable presentations

I am considering buying a refurbished iPod Touch or iPad Mini, and I wanted to discuss how to apply iWork for iOS in concert with iWork 2009 for Mac.To wit:
As you can see from the listings below, I have access to useful hardware and software. I am writing this to seek advice on how to leverage these tools to give business (and personal) presentations while I'm on-the-road and may (or may not) be carrying hardware with me. If I'm forced to travel light, I was wondering if simply taking a thumb drive and/or using my iCloud account may be enough.
I work for a small construction business that does projects in eight surrounding counties. I work as a "Producer", which means I'm both an office manager (writing up contracts and job estimates, arranging business with customers, contractors and suppliers over-the-phone) and a project manager (working with those same business contacts in-person on remote project sites). I am also applying for work outside of our business, and want to be able to use visual aids if/when necessary to illustrate what I do during an interview.
I recently started taking a Lynda.com course on "Setting Up Your Mobile Office to Work from Anywhere", and it got me to thinking about how I could use iCloud and Apple's iWork apps to create business presentations that could be played in a variety of portable scenarios. My goal is to be able to travel light and still be able to make presentations to individuals or groups.
MY CURRENT PERSONAL/BUSINESS HARDWARE & SOFTWARE
iMac 13,1 : late-2012 slimline model, 2.9 GHz Core i5 processor, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB hard disk, USB SuperDrive
    MacOS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
    iLife 2011 (including iPhoto 9.2.3)
iWork 2009 (including Keynote 5.3, Pages 4.3, and Numbers 2.3)
    Microsoft Office 2011: Mac
Final Cut Studio 3, including Final Cut Pro 7
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 8
    iCloud account, free-tier service
    DSL high-speed connection to internet
Have been shooting digital photos since November, 2001; manages iPhoto library of over 52,000 images
    OTHER HARDWARE AVAILABLE
white MacBook 2006 vintage, 1.83 GHz Intel processor, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB hard disk, SuperDrive, MacOS 10.6.8, iLife 2011, iWork 2009, Microsoft Office 2011 (MacBook is not my machine; used by someone else in my office. This computer has battery issues; it must be plugged into AC power.)
Epson EX7200 projector, with USB thumb-drive port (for JPEG presentations), VGA port, and HDMI port.
Scenario #1: If I prepared a Keynote presentation on my iMac and transferred it via WiFi or thumb drive to the old MacBook, do I need to copy just a single Keynote file over and that's it? No attached files or folders with files in them?
Scenario #2: I have successfully, in the past, used the Epson projector and a thumb drive loaded with photos and also a USB camera card reader with an SD card attached to show simple JPEG photo slideshows. If I wanted to just use the Epson's USB port to show Keynote slideshows, they would have to be stored in folders as JPEG files. How easy is this to prepare with Keynote? Are there any pointers available on designing a useful workflow for preparing such slideshows without a lot of fuss?
Scenario #3: Forget the projector; too much bulk. If I had just a small iOS device like an iPod touch, and I wanted to plug into someone else's projector (or if I wanted to just show a slideshow of images to one person with no projector) what do I need to be prepared for, hardware-wise? What do I need to do with Keynote, both on the iMac for production and on the iOS device to make it look right?
Scenario #4: Let's say I'm going to carry everything on a USB thumb drive as a backup. What is the best way to set it up to play on someone else's hardware? (I assume three tiers of compatibility: I do network with Mac/iOS users, so Tier #1 would be Apple compatibility with Keynote. Tier #2 would be general compatibility with Microsoft Office 2003/4 for pre-XML file formats. I guess that Tier #3 would be general-purpose PDF files, or maybe the JPEG file approach with thumb drive ports on projectors.) If I'm doing Tier #1 and I'm plugging my thumb drive into someone else's MacBook, are there any pointers to avoid font conflicts or other issues? If I'm doing Tier #1 and I'm borrowing someone else's iPad to show a slideshow, how do I get the files off of a thumb drive to show on the iPad?
Scenario #5: ** iCloud ** Let's say I'm traveling VERY light, and I want to give a presentation that's stored on my Apple iCloud account. How can I organize files and folders so that Tier #1, #2 and #3 files are available (assuming I have an internet connection) so I can play a presentation off someone else's hardware, be it a tablet or laptop. Is there anything I should know about how to prepare this and how to reliably be able to log-in and access my iCloud files? Are my iWork 2009 apps going to function in preparing and saving presentation files with my iCloud account?
Scenario #6: Scenario #6 is Scenario #5, but substituting another service instead of iCloud, like maybe Google Drive. Is there any way to set up an account with files so I can reliably be able to access said files for a presentation?

Just sign into your iCloud account on icloud.com, click the app that you want to use (see below) and it will launch.  You don't need to sign into anything but your iCloud account.

The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.5 (Mavericks preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is now non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
To make use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mavericks, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Mavericks (10.9.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Mavericks are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • I share a an apple id with my kids. We all use the same credit card for purchases.  Is it possible for only me to use the icloud online storage without making this available or visible to the kids?

My kids and I all use the same credit card and password for app and music purchases.   I'm assuming we all use the same apple ID too. (not sure) We can share apps and music although we all have our own itunes libraries. Is it possible for only me to use the icloud online storage without making this available or visible to the kids or do we all have our own storage?

I just checked and they have already sucked up all my online storage.  Ahhh techy teens!  I think I will just leave it at that and back my own stuff up on my computer. Less confusing
Thanks for all the help!  I am definitely more educated now and I'm off to check that cc bill too.

I'm using same icloud and same apple ID on two iphones. Now i get calls from same number on both iphones at the same time. How to turn off that?

Apple ID's are not device specific, so when you changed it on the iPad 2 it changed it on the iPhone 4 as well, since it's the same account still. What you need to do is create a second Apple ID (so you'll have two accounts, one for iPhone 4 and a seperate one for iPad 2).
To create a new Apple ID on your iPad 2:
    1) Go into Settings > Store.
    2) If you are already signed in, tap your Apple ID on the screen and you will be given a few options, one of which is to sign out of your account.
    3) After you sign out, now click the "Sign in" button.
    4) Tap "Create New Apple ID" and follow the instructions on-screen.
