Use of old 3gs plus a new 4s ?

After buying a new 4s I first want to migrate all data and apps to it from my old 3GS  This seems to be no problem.
Thereafter - giving the old 3GS to someone in the family, who has a sim-card of his own
1. Can he keep all Contacts?
2. Can he use all Apps I bought - and gets updates as well?
3. Can he use my music and add his own?
Thanks in advance for any comments

Yes.

  • I'm buying a 4s tomorrow, can i use my old 3gs as an itouch with wifi for my kid?

I'm buying a 4s tomorrow, but i was wondering if i can use my old 3gs as an itouch with wifi for my son to use?

Yes of course, that is possible.
The iPhone works just like an iPod Touch if you don't insert a SIM card. It will just display "No SIM" instead of the signal bars.
The "Phone and Message Apps" will still be visible, but basically the phone won't call or text anyway, because it lacks the SIM card.

You should have been syncing your contacts with your computer all along.

  • Lost my IPhone5-did not have IFind engaged-Can I use my old 3GS for temp use.

Lost my IPhone5 looks like i did not have my find iphone engaged. So no way in tracking the phone are  any of those third party apps able to locate my device beside the NSA or apple. who are unwilling
I have my  icloud syncronzied with my contacts, is keeping me alive but my mac book pro is out dated is out  i dont sync to that.
So my question i still have my  oldIpnone 3GS. Can I reactiveate this hardware device to replace my lost one, to keep me temporaly up and going?

if apple tracked devices they would be in big trouble
the phone can always be tracked using the IMEI number and tri connection tower calucations police use this in cases of missing persons they need to present a warrent to get the carriers to track them though
and it's a costly thing so doubt they would do it on account of a stolen phone
you can use your old phone if it's gsm by putting in a sim card from the carrier if it's not gsm but cmda then you should talk to the carrier
you can restore the iphone 3gs with the backup of the newer ios version but you can use the same appleID and access apps tied to it

  • How do I transfer only one app from my old 3GS to my new 4S?

I've already sync'd my old 3GS iPhone with iTunes and then sync'd my new iPhone 4S with iTunes, so all my old stuff transferred to my new iPhone.  Now I want the old version of a certain app (Sleep Cycle) that's on my old phone.  I do not like the new version of Sleep Cycle.
Is it possible to just transfer that app from old phone to new phone?
I tried plugging my old phone into my computer (Dell desktop), chose do not automatically sync, went to devices, apps, and unchecked all apps except Sleep  Cycle.  When I then clicked "apply," I got a warning that all my apps except Sleep Cycle were going to be deleted.  I don't want to delete them.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Delete the app from your phone by tapping and holding the app icon until it wiggles, tap the black "X", then tap the home button.  Now sync the phone with iTunes, leaving all the apps checked that you want on your phone, including Sleep Cycle.  (Any that are unchecked will be deleted.)  If you have apps on your phone that are not in your iTunes library, first right-click on the name of your phone on the left side of iTunes and choose Transfer Purchases, then go back and check all the apps you want on your phone and sync.

  • Using my old ipod on a new computer

My old pc crashed before I could backup itunes. I used an old backup disc and added what I could to the new pc. Now when I plug in the ipod, it says the ipod is synced with another itunes library, do you want to erase and sync to this library.
Problem is, I don't want to delete the songs from my ipod because they weren't all backed up. I don't mind not having them in my library, but dont want to lose them alltogether. Any help?

1). Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • How do I transfer music from my old 3gs to my new iphone4?

I have just bought a new iPhone 4 and a new iMac. I have an older 3gs that was set up on another computer which I don't have access to anymore. Can I or is there a way to transfer all of my songs, photo's etc.. I have purchased on my 3gs to my new iPhone4?
    thanks

You will have to restore the backup you made of your iTunes library on your old computer to your new iMac.
The iPhone is not a backup device. The data (music, video, etc.) lives on your computer and is 'loaned' to the iPhone so you can take it with you.
If you did not keep a backup of your old computer before you disposed of it/sold it/ got it stolen, etc. then you may be able to find a 3rd party application that will allow you to extract your music. This is not sanctioned by Apple.

  • Help, how to restore backed-up data from old 3GS to my new 3GS?

Hi I recently got a replacement phone, and when i synced it to iTunes, the prompt to restore my backed-up data came up. However when I tried to restore, it prompted me to update my new phone's software to 3.1 first.
So now, after updating my software, how do I restore the data from my old phone?
Coz the first prompt does not appear anymore.
    Would appreciate your feedback, thanks!

Upgrade to 3.1 first, do not sync or backup. After you upgrade, reconnect & select restore from previous backup & all your data will be put back on the new phone.
When you right click on your phone under devices in the right column, one of your choices will be restore from backup.

  • Can I re-use & edit old dvd project with new video/audio??

I video a dance company's Christmas performance each year and I plan to use the same theme and many of the titles and scenes are the same. So I'm hoping there is a way to bring all the work I did last year in iDVD forward and just make any updates to the scene titles as needed. All the video and audio will be new and I'll prepare it in iMovie with chapter markers as I did last year. If I can import the audio & video into iDVD without redoing all the text and buttons it would be great. Has anyone had experience with this?

    Brian,
If you "archived" the iDVD project then the answer is yes it's pretty easy - I recommend you do that this year!
If you didn't archive the project, then you've got some work to do. There are some applications like DVDxDV, MPEG Streamclip+the Apple MPEG2 Playback Component, and ExportToQT (which come with MPEG2Works) that will convert the VOB MPEG 2 video files on your DVD back to DV files that iMovie or FCP/FCE can use again. But it is time consuming to convert back, and some of these apps are easier than others.
You might try DVDxDV to see what's involved. There is a trial version. Even so, you'd need to re-build the menus, etc...... and if you have all new video, I don't think it will help much.
So my bet is you'll be better off just starting from scratch this year.....but then archive the project to use next year!

  • Can i use my old slr lenses with new dslr rebel T3i camera

I am contemplating buying the Canon Rebel T3i DSLR, but have read varying opinions on whether or not my older lense collection from Rebel Eos SLR will be compatible. Please help

All the Canon EOS lenses from a film SLR will work on any of their digital SLRs.
The sensor on the T3i is about the same size as a single frame of negative from APS-C film (APS-C = Advanced Photo System - Classic size).  Those were the drop-in cartridge rolls that started to become popular in the 1990s.  It's a little smaller than a single frame of 35mm film.
Canon also makes DSLR cameras that have "full frame" sensors -- which means the sensor is the same size as 35mm film.
When you shoot with, say, a 50mm lens on a 35mm film camera you are used to a certain angle of view.  Since the sensor on a Rebel body is a little smaller, it's as if someone cropped in on the negative slightly and decided to make a print using only the middle area of the negative.  This results in a tighter angle of view -- it's almost as though you've zoomed in a bit.
For this reason, the APS-C sensor is referred to as a "crop frame" sensor.
The crop factor is 60% (multiply by 1.6).   In other words, suppose you had a 50mm lens on your film body.  When you put that same lens on a Rebel T3i, you would multiply the focal length by 1.6.  50 X 1.6 = 80.  This means the 50mm lens on the camera with the APS-C size sensor is going to provide an angle of view which is approximately the same as using an 80mm lens on the film (or full-frame sensor) camera.   The Canon 6D, 5D series, and a few of the !D series bodies (such as the current 1D X) have "full frame" sensors ... the same size as a 35mm negative.  (Some 1D bodies used APS-H size sensors which have a 30% crop factor but Canon does not currently make those anymore -- you can certainly find them on the used equipment market.)
Your Canon EOS lenses WILL all work on the T3i body, but you'll notice you get a narrower angle of view (and there's nothing wrong with that -- it just takes a bit of getting used to.)
Canon also makes "EF-S" lenses which reduces the cost to build the lens by using elements that are not designed to completely cover a 35mm negative -- it only project an image circle which is large enough to cover the APS-C sensor.  The up-side is that they cost a little less.  The down-side is that if you ever chose to get a camera that uses a full-frame digital sensor then you would not be able to use those "EF-S" lenses.
But Canon's EOS "EF" lenses work on _every_ EOS camera body, film or digital.
