Use of Perspective Grid (One Point)

I'm new to Illustrator and finding my way around. I found one of the tutorial examples referencing this article on the use of a perspective grid to create a graphic:
http://www.intraligi.com/project/adobe-illustrator-cs5-pre-release-programm.html
Looking at page 4 and seeing how he has the grid set up, I'm unable to create this same grid. For one thing, when I go to View > Perspective Grid > Define Grid, under Grid Color & Opacity, the Right Grid is greyed out. Also, I can't get the horizontal grid lines to extend all the way to the vanishing point, like he's showing in the example.
Can someone please tell me what I'm missing here and why I can't recreate the perspective grid shown?

I think I got it now how he created the grid that he used. I believe what he did was use a 2 point Perspective Grid, and then moved the vanishing points so that they were (almost) together, creating a single point.
I can create the same effect this way and that looks like how he did it.
I don't think so, they just moved the grid easy enough to do with the grid tool
Grab th circular end of the guide with the grid tool and drag.

How do I get this back? I have the perspective selection tool selected too BTW.

  • Can I use CC Perspective grid "in reverse" -- for inside of a room

    Hello
Using windows cc 2014 (most recent update).
I want to draw the inside of a room using the perspective grid if possible.
I see how it's done using a exterior of a building.  But I need it for inside of a room.  See attached mockup.
I know I've seen a cc tutorial somewhere showing how to use perspective inside a room.  But can't seem to find it today.
    Any suggestions and/or links?
    Thanks

with your perspective grid visible, select the "perspective grid tool" from the tool palette or press Shift+P. with that tool drag on the bottom controller of the vertical grids across to the opposite side so that the 2 vertical grids cross each other

  • Perspective Grid -- What about Unique Perspectives ?

Using the perspective grid in Adobe Illustrator CC 2014, is it possible to make a perspective that follows the two angles of this image that create an angle sort of like the top of a letter "A" ?
I was able to move the right side of the perspective to the left to create one of the desired angles, but I can't seem to rotate the left side to end up with the other angle.

I think I got it.......  I was able to see another control when I zoomed out..... I dragged this control until I got the desired angle.
The perspective tool initially appears in the perspective of a letter "V".  If you want to have an "A" shaped perspective, I presume you have to drag the right side to the left, and drag the left side to the right to create this other perspective.

  • Perspective grid

I don't use the perspective grid often, so sorry if this is a dumb question. I have adjusted the two point grid so that I have mre of an inside versus corner view. Say I create a shape on the red plane. I thought that I could use the perspective selection tool and the alt key to copy it in perspective, but it seems to make it larger when I go back in space and smaller when I come forward, rather than how it should be. If I draw the shape itself on the grid, it will draw correctly, but I thought that I should be able to copy in perspective as well. Am I doing somethin incorrectly? I can copy it in perspective going the other way, say like a several windows along a wall getting smaller, but not like the back of a table getting smaller. Any help or clue as to what I might be doing incorrectly would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Richard

Yes! Thank you. I don't know where either how I missed that or where that was hidden, but I couldn't find that in help anywhere. Thank you again.

  • Concave perspective grid

    Hi,
I am trying to familiarize with the perspective grid and I could not find similar topics already addressed anywhere, so I'm posting my question here.
All the tutorials I have seen, and also all the examples, refer to a "convex perspective grid" that is typically the drawing of a cube seen from outside (like a building seen standing in front of it on the other side of the street).
What about a cube seen from inside?
For example, let's say I have arworks that represent paintings to be nailed on the wall of a room, and artworks representig the carpets to be laid on the floor.
Can I use the perspective grid to represent the inner walls of the room?
I understand that any given plane of the perspective grid extends beyond the visible grid itself, so I can draw "towards me" in a way that the external-right wall is the internal-left and so on, but I am struggling to get the results I expected.
Is there any better way to do it?
    thanks a lot,
    Cristiano.
(BTW, I tried to attach an example image, but I get "That type of image is forbidden"... no matter what imaeg extension I try bmp/png/gif/jpg, how do you attach images here?)

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. Though I have to admit it took me a half hour to get it to work.
And it's still clunky to work with. I don't think I'll be using it much.
And I haven't been able to summon that dialog you show. I've tried double clicking everything with either Grid tool selected. I'm just not seeing it.
Thank you, anyway. I wouldn't dare using the Perpective Tool without this feature.
    About the Free Transform Tool:
What I meant was I'd like to be able to freely distort any object or group in order to make a faux perspective.
When you select an object and summon the Free Transform tool you can stretch any corner independent from the other corners using a secret keyboard shortcut which I can't remember anymore. I hate how so many functions are hidden behind secret keyboard presses in order to make something work.
Actually, I just found it in my notes. With the Free Transform Tool you have to start moving a corner, then, and only after you started to drag you can press the Command (or Control) and then you can stretch that point. I made a sample below. I should have made it into a group of objects so it was clearer what was happening.
Anyway, imagine this: say you have a simple rectangle. With the Direct Selection Tool you can move any corner without disturbing the other 3. That's what I'm looking for. I'd like to do that with any object or group. The problem is when you use the Direct Selection Tool to do it, the Bounding Box resets after every move. If you distort it too much, the corner points in the bounding box quickly become harder to use because they are so distant from the "corner" of the object which they are controlling.
In Corel DRAW it's so amazing simple rather than the clunky steps I have to go through to do it in Illustrator (as in the video).

I have a Windows 7 laptop using I tunes 64 and all my music files are
on an external disc. I rarely use I tunes and at one point moved all my files
(including the music files) from one external disc to another without
considering what affect this would have on the I tunes library. When I eventually
attempted to use I tunes, every selected a song from the library resulted in a
message stating that the file couldn't be located. After following some of the procedures
explained in this community I was able to reconnect the library back to where
the associated music files are presently stored. However, there are still 2
problems that need to be corrected. 1) Every song file now has a duplicate. One
file works and the other file will result in the same message stating that the
file couldn't be located. Before there were 4,000 songs in the library, now
there are 8,000 songs. I need to eliminate the 4,000 dead song files. 2) All
the playlists are still associated with the dead song files which makes the
playlists unusable. Can the playlists be reconnected to the usable files
without manually having to recreate them? Thanks in advance for the help.

    So am I understanding correctly?
You used your iPod as a hard drive (drag and drop) instead of having iTunes install the music?
If you used drag and drop your choices are different than if you used iTunes to transfer.
    Good luck!

Can anyone help me figure out how to sync my ipod with my purchased music?  I have used several computer and at one point synced my ipod with a computer that only had about half of my music.  My other computers are no longer working.  Not sure how to get my purchased music back onto my ipod?

    Hi kimcinma!
Your previous purchases are saved on iCloud even if you bought them on another computer. If you can't find them on your current computer, you might need to unhide them. Go to iTunes preferences, and click on Store Preferences. Then click the box for "show iTunes in the Cloud purchases". Then click on OK, and everything you've ever bought from iTunes on that Apple ID will show up in your library. You will need to download them from iCloud first before you can synch them to your iPod Classic. To do this, click on the little cloud with the arrow in it next to your song, and it will download to your computer. When you have the music that you want downloaded, plug in your iPod and synch away. Hope this helps!

Hello; I am using Numbers '09 version 2.1 (436). I tried unsuccessfully to upgrade at one point. Now can't open existing documents. Message "The index.xml file is missing". How can I correct this ?
    Thank you

I't not iWeb that got damaged but the domain file. The index.xml file is inside the domain.sites file that's located in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. Do you have a backup of that file you can revert to?  If so then do it.  Otherwise a long shot but try the following:
    close iWeb.
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.

I've had zero experience with the perspective grid and have a project coming in involving up to 50 graphics which may require it - so I need to learn to use it fast (next 2-3 weeks).
What is the best way of learning this? online tutorial? book? Instructional DVD? In person hands-on training facility?
My company would support my training so all ideas are welcome - thanks!

Why do you not even include in your list of options that which should be the default  first choice?: Read and work through the provided official documentation. It's right there, under the Help menu.
The Perspective Grid is a simple feature, with only a few options. You just need to familiarize yourself with the interface for it. That's exactly what the provided documentation is supposed to do. It should not take anywhere near 2-3 weeks, assuming at least basic working familiarity with the rest of the program. If you lack that, your first course is again:  read (and work through) the manual.

  • Perspective Grid: How do I draw a cube showing only its TOP and its FRONT?

Can I create this with Illustrator's Perspective Grid? the 1-, 2-, and 3-point perspectives don't seem to be what I need...

Yes you can draw it with perspective grid.
    Set up perspective grid
Draw a square and rotate it 45°
then drag square into perspective grid
Make a copy by pressing Alt and 5 and moving up
(to measure the distance you could place a copy of the square from step one on one of the sides in perspective grid)
Then use the pen tool to draw the front side by connecting the dots.

  • Perspective Grid improvements

The new Perspective Grid feature is pretty nice... at first.
But it quickly becomes almost useless as modifying the Grid after Objects are constrained to it does not re-orient the objects.
What's the point? So if we get the Perspective Grid set up, add objects, and if it turns out the Perspective needs to be tweaked... you can't?
It might actually be nicer to have a per-object-based Perspective Tool that does re-transform the object if you move the grid.
And then you could have more than one grid.
Or maybe you could make it so that the Free Transform Tool doesn't redraw the bounding box every time you make a change.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. Though I have to admit it took me a half hour to get it to work.

  • Perspective Grid in Illustrator

I accidentally clicked on the Perspective Grid and now I cannot get it off my workspace. How do I get rid of it? What is this feature anyhow?!
    Thanks, Ben

Funny how you find someone who is giving you good advice as scoldig you. Certainly if you did not have access to the help fles on lne and ou tried that and you usually use the help files I would have thought you would have mentioned it in your first post..
Perhaps it was too much trouble.
I am glad you were able to figure it out..
BTW if the help files do not work nex time you can try doin a search on google.
I find it hard to believe that a user that has been using Illustrator since 2007 does not one know wha the prespective grid is and two does not know to do a google search if the files fail. It really is hard to believe.
This just a part of what a googke search will give you I would suggest that you ive it a try so you can get use to the idea thatthere are other users that have gone through a lot of trouble to post this information and it is a shame that there ae are many user IMO who let it go to waste because…well I don't know why.
I know a fair amount about Illustratro and the other Adobe apps and when I need help I do like most users I use the help files and or do a search the user to user forum is best used for issues that might not be available that way or for a user who has tried but just missed something and needs to be pointed in the right direction.
But I am glad youy were able to figure it out.\
I will give you som information about the hiding and showing the perspective grid there is a keyboard shortcut/toggle for this as well. Itis easuily found out.
