how do we work with direct input method and how the implicit material numbers will be assigned in uploading the data using RMDATIND.what are the other programs available in direct input method

I need to upload the following views data into SAP using direct input (RMDATIND)

Data migration methods

Hi experts. I am working on a study for a data migration project where data from multiple legacy systems would be moved into SAP. Apart from LSMW and BDC, what are the other useful methods when the data migration involves huge volumes of upload data?

Hi,
Obviously the answer depends to a certain extent on the circumstances of your project (complexity of data, volume, etc) and on the object in question, but here are a few rules of thumb.
If you are new to this I would stay away from IDOCs and BAPIs as the set up is often a little complicated and if there are errors the problem is often not too easy to identify. And IDOC processing is not always as quick as people assume. For example, the customer master IDOC is processed in the background by a call transaction of XD01.
For you I would suggest definitely using LSMW, and where possible within LSMW use the standard uploads. There will be situations where the standard upload does not cover everything (again using customers as an example, it will not include the extended address data or the long texts) but I would still use the standard upload to load as much as you can, and then write a couple of simple update BDC recordings (XD02, XK02, etc) to add what's missing.
Some examples of the standard upload programs are:
Customers - RFBIDE00
Vendors - RFBIKE00
Materials - RMDATIND
All finance transactions - RFBIBL00
Fixed assets - RAALTD01
The standard uploads are normally well documented; they often use BDC (not RMDATIND) so are quite transparent; and they are generally pretty flexible.
There are a few standard uploads which are not so good, such as the sales order load, and to a lesser extent the purchase order load. In these cases you might need to look at using the BAPIs but get help from someone who has used them before.
You might want to use recordings for very simple loads like bank master.
If migrating SAP to SAP, where possible you would look to transfer master data via ALE using IDOCs. But again you need to know what you are doing and it sounds like you are moving from a non-SAP to a SAP system anyway.

LSMW- Material Master Performance issue

Hi All,
We are using the prgoram RMDATIND to upload material master through LSMW and having a problem of performance while using this technique.
Have 4Lak records to be uploaded in 10 hrs as it required to upload all views.
Pl advice except separate the records.Is that any option to run the file in parallal views?

I think best option is to break the file up into many chunks that can be processed in parallel. If this is not an option then you need to consider what is on the selection screen of RMDATIND, for example "Create change documents". Is this required for your purposes as this takes a lot of time.
The other thing I would suggest is to talk to your basis team because there are settings and config they can put in place to aid this load.

Material Migration per view

Hi Friends,
is it advisable to migrate Material Master Data per View?
I mean, first the Basic view, then the Purchase View etc.
If not, what problems can occur.

Yes you can do this approach.
Otherwise the input file will be very complex and the LSMW or Batch Input program would be very difficult to create.
First create the basic data, later use the same RMDATIND program to update the pther views.

Modify an existing LSMW to include a Z field

I need to modify an existing LSMW to include a Z field added to material
sales data. The LSMW uses standard program RMDATIND to upload. I can
modify (append) the structure BMMH1 to include this field. However how
to ensure that this field is processed by the standard program and is
updated in MVKE table?

Hi,
If I were doing a custom field in the material master I would load thru the
idoc MATMAS and extend it to include my custom field, populate that field
thru a user exit in the IDoc processing function then set up my material
master data load in the LSMW to use the IDoc instead of the custom program.
For me this would be the easiest way and you don't have to fiddle with the
standard Direct Input program.

How to Execute RMDATIND inside another Background Job using a variant?

It is only possible to start RMDATIND (direct input) in background from transaction BMV0 u2013 it is impossible just to place the program in another job in SM37 or SM36.
In a related thead I saw : u201DSolved my self by using BI_START_JOB. If I use this function module along with RS_CREATE_VARIANT and RS_VARIANT_DELETE. u201C

Load multiple Units of Measures using RMDATIND in LSMW

Hi All,
   I have created a conversion for materials using LSMW. I have used the standard direct input
   program    RMDATIND.
   Requirements have changed considerably over a period of time and now the new one is that I need to
   load multiple alternate units of measure for each material.
   The issue when using RMDATIND is that the structure BMMH6 for alternate units can hold only 1
   record at a time and my one single legacy source record has the information for two alternate units of
   measure.
   The LSMW that I created cannot handle this right now as it can load only one Unit of Measure as
   BMMH6 can hold only one record.
   Is this a limitation or is there a workaround/solution for this issue of mine in LSMW while using <br />
   RMDATIND.
   I will greatly appreciate any useful inputs in this regard.

How to use QM- Inspection setup in STD RMDATIND program in LSMW

Friends,
I am working on MM data conversion. I am using STD RMDATIND program foe this. I need to update fields in View Quality management, Inspection Type and Active check box. We could achieve this through Quality management -> Inspection Set up->click on New button. Here you can maintain the InspType and Active button. My problem is that I am not able to find the corresponding fields in program RMDATIND. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

By using RMDATIND Prog, u cannot update fields for Quality Management,
There is Stanadard Business Object for Inspection set up.
Business Object      BUS1001004   Material inspection control
Method                   SAVEREPLICA                 Replication of QM inspect

Basic Type              MATQM01                     Replication of QM Inspect
You can update by using this BAPI.

Clear a field using RMDATIND

Hi,
I'm using Direct Input to create/change material.
I'm using nodata field to let unmodify the fileds that I don't want change.
If I try to clear a field using ' ' the rmadatind program lets the filed unmodify (as for nodata).
Any suggests?

Make sure that the field TCODE on structure BMM00 has the value MM02 for changes. I just tried it and it works.

Issue in LSMW for material master using standard input program RMDATIND!!

I have a issue in LSMW for material master.
I have a custom field in MARA table. which I want to add in my LSMW.
I added the field in BMMH1 structure. I'm passing the value to this field, But it is not populated in the table when I run it.
Is there anything else I need to do apart from addition of field in the structure BMMH1.
