Use of Tiger cd installation discs with ema \c power PC no dvd

Purchased tiger for emac. Currently using OS X Jaguar. program came with DVD installation disc. Sent for and rec. Tiger CDs with exchange program. problem. . .unble to install with these CDs. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi CJQ,
when did you buy the iBook? What sub-version are the Tiger install CDs?
If you bought the iBook in 2005 it shipped with either 10.4.2 or 10.4.4 (Mac OS: Versions, builds included with computers (since 1998)). If the Tiger install CDs are 10.4.0 it is expected bahaviour that you cannot install from them: Don't install older versions of Mac OS than what comes with your computer.
Be aware that you cannot use hardware specific disks that shipped with another computer.

  • Installation discs with used June 2012 model

I'm looking at buying a used or refurbished MacBook Pro.
Mid (June) 2012 model - 15.4-inch MacBook Pro 2.6GHz Quad-core Intel i7 (the non Retina model).
Refurb from Apple would be ideal, but money does come into my decision, so I'm looking at used on eBay and Craigslist (I know, not ideal, but I may have to go that route).
Obviously that machine is going to come with Mountain Lion. I just spoke to a seller and when I asked about the grey installations discs, he said that machine no longer comes with installations discs. I know Apple have gone all App store and downloading now, but is that true? If so, is there a way to run a disc based hardware check when purchasing a used 2012 model?
    Thanks!

Mac's are still the predominant platform in the creative world.
The creative market is almost disappeared due to the rapid decline of print media, less artists are needed now.
Consumers are getting their information from the web rather than from magazines and newspapers.
Musicians often need to appear different and fashionable with Mac's, the video industry is moving more towards longer term and stable PC systems with their 10 years of operating system support verses OS X only a few years of support.
No way am I or the vast majority of creative professionals on these forums moving to PC's and Windows. Not gonna happen.
The vast amount of people on these forums are consumers.
Consumers make the bulk of Apple's sales, and consumers are choosing tablets more often as it does what they need, it costs less and it's easier to fix. Apple is not going to keep non selling product lines available just for the small market of creatives.
Apple has already discontinued the MacBook and the 17" MacBook Pro (and the XRaid and Xerver) since the iPad's release, closed up all their hardware now and nearly has OS X closed up.
IDC predicts that consumers will use tablets more than regular computers by 2015 and without the majority of consumers buying machines the small portion of creatives needs, they will be discontinued.
Apple's new MacPro is aimed squarely at the new emerging 4G market, but it's a gamble as the the industry just switched to HD and that was expensive and painful enough not to have to repeat again so shortly.
but want to create things on computers that work.
I'm a creative and create things on Windows 7, on my Mac, just fine.
Windows 7 looks great provided it's on a decent monitor which by default most Mac's come with one.
I think in the next few years a lot is going to occur as the shift away from consumers using Mac's and PC's will continue.
That would leave Windows towers and laptops likely the only solution for professionals and creatives as there won't be enough consumer demand to keep most portable Mac's alive.

  • Using bootcamp without the installation disc.

My school allows me to download windows XP for free, so I did so and put it on an external hard drive. Is there anyway I can use bootcamp to install XP from the hard drive, or do I need an installation disc?
    Thanks

    Hi stribs,
BootCamp needs a Windows Installation CD/DVD since it has to boot your Mac from that CD/DVD during installation.
Ask your school if the downloaded Windowsd package can be used to burn an installation CD.
    regards

  • I can't use Mac OS X Installation disc 2

After I have bought my MacBook,I diacovered that the Installation disc 2 can't read by my superdriver. When you insert this disc, the superdriver will start work, but it must stop and push the disc out in a short time.
So I took it to the store, but this disc still can't read by all of iMacs and MacBooks.
Please tell me,How should I obtain the help?

    Hi Gardevoir,
first of all: WELCOME TO THE DISCUSSIONS!
Unfortunately this happens sometimes. Apple will exchange the disks for new ones without any problems (you will have to send in the damaged disks). Just call the Apple Store or whoever you bought them from.

  • IMac installation discs 1 & 2 being recognised as blank DVD-RW

    Hi
I'm trying to install the Boot Camp software to my newly installed Windows Vista, but my iMac installation discs are both being recognised as DVD-RW's, and appear blank.
Anybody got a clue what's going on?
    Thanks a lot!

If you run System Profiler, is the external optical drive being recognized?
If you insert a regular disc into the drive, such as a music CD, does it show up on your Desktop?

  • Reusing Installation Discs and Upgrade Questions

Is it possible, or even legal, to use the Snow Leopard installation disc that came with my 15 inch Macbook Pro to install the OS onto my 20 inch iMac core 2 duo (its OS is Tiger)?
I have been wanting to update the OS on my desktop for a while and would rather not have to buy another disc when one came with my new laptop.
My other question is when I do go through with upgrading the OS on my desktop, will there be any type of data loss or stability issues?
I've never upgraded the OS on any of my computers before, having to replace a dying computer usually happens long before I need to upgrade the OS.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Echoing captfred WRT backups:
Get a bootable, external HD (preferably FireWire, since it's 40-50% faster than USB 2 and designed for data transfers), make a bootable backup/clone before updating/upgrading, and ensure that it's bootable and works like the original. That allows you to revert to the previous good state without having to reinstall or reset anything. See these for details:

  • Missing installation discs

Ok, so I have a Macbook from June '06 with Tiger and a Macbook from August of last year with Snow Leopard. Somewhere along the line I have lost the original installation discs for the Tiger laptop. I would like to wipe the hard drive on the old laptop so as to sell it, but don't have the original discs, and when I try using the Snow Leopard installation disc on the old computer I get an error message. Is there anyway I can 1.) Get Snow Leopard to install on the old computer or 2.) Get replacement installation discs? Please let me know if either of these, or another option, will work.

You can call Apple Customer Support 1-800-767-2775, provide the Serial Number and specifications of the Mac, and for a fee, a replacement set of system discs (if available), can be ordered.
However, the discs will be for the original version of OS, that was pre-installed, when the Mac was manufactured.

  • [SOLVED] Installation problem with pacstrap

Hi guys, I am a new user of Arch Linux.
I wanted to try this operating system then I decided to install that on my Asus F200MA. Unfortunately, when I try to install ArchLinux, I get an error while downloading the base packages with pacstrap.
My HDD is made by 3 partitions:
/dev/sda1 - 51200 MB: This is the root partition
/dev/sda2 - 411690 MB: This is the home partition
/dev/sda3 - 4096 MB: This is the swap partition
After mounting these partitions, after using the pacstrap command and after the end of the download process, I get a few error messages:
error: failed to commit transaction (invalid or corrupted package)
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
==> ERROR: Failed to install packages to new root
I really can't understand the reason of these errors, how can I solve the problem?
For formatting and mounting the partitions I used these commands:
    # mkfs.ext4 /dev/sda1
    # mkfs.ext4 /dev/sda2
    # mkswap /dev/sda3
    # swapon /dev/sda3
    # mount /dev/sda1 /mnt
    # mkdir /mnt/home
    # mount /dev/sda2 /mnt/home
and then I used this command:
    pacstrap /mnt base base-devel
    Photo of the errors: http://i.imgur.com/4BRhlC7.jpg
P.S.: Can you also explain me the reason of the signature's errors?
    Thanks for all

Do you use the most recent installation disc image?

  • Can anyone help me?  I recently bought a secondhand PowerBook G4 but there was no installation discs, where can I obtain a set as I am unable to install any software.  Many thanks.

I recently bought a secondhand PowerBook G4 but there were no installation discs with it and at present I am unable to install any software, where is it possible to obtain a set of the discs so that I can reinstall the software to try and resolve this problem.
    Many thanks.

You may also want to try eBay. Finding disks for a machine that old will be difficult though.
    Best of luck.

  • Nothing Boots on my Mac Pro 1,1 - Boot Drive, Installation Disc, Recovery Partition, etc.

I tested the boot drive on another Mac and boots just fine.
    Situation:
On my Mac Pro, about 2 weeks ago I upgraded iTunes and everything worked just fine, used the computer on mulitiple occasions with no problems, power ups, etc.  The last time I powered the computer on, my usual desktop image loaded but then frozed.  I did a hard restarted by powering the computer off and restarted. But this time at the boot process the gray apple logo screen with the rotating gear came up as usual but then went to the white screen.  I performed mutiple restarts, sometimes the blue screen came up.  I restarted in safe mode and booted just fine.  This may be a quick workaround but I can't do much in safe mode.  I've done all of the troubleshooting I can do/find on the net. Zap pram, reset SMC, reinstall OS X Lion via USB(Does Not Boot at all), cloned another boot drive, reinstall OS X Lion on the boot drive via another Mac, etc.  Any last suggestion before ditching computer?

If you can boot up in Safe Mode, take a look at
About this Mac > ( More Info ) > Memory
see if all modules are present, at their expected sizes, and have a Status of "OK". Anything else has likely failed.

Can I use a new US MacBook Pro with a UK power adapter? I am pretty sure I can as the output of the adapter says 100-240v, but would welcome any input other than my assumption! Many thanks.

Yes the MagSafe can be used with any 100-240 volt supply, you'll get best results if you use a cable/adapter that has an earth or you might feel a tingle in your palms when using it ...

    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. From here you can upgrade to Yosemite by re-downloading it from the Purchases page in the App Store.

  • I bought a MBPro which came with Lion installed,i also wanted to have a copy of installation disc so i used mac app store.Normally if an app is already bought there is a warning or a sign that informs the buyer.I've charged for this download is it normal?

Hi ,i bought a MacBookPro which came with Lion installed on it (i have registered my mac book pro right after i bought it), i also wanted to have a copy of the installation disc in case of a crash, so i used mac app store to get it.Normally if an app is already bought (for iphone app store) there is a warning or a sign that informs the buyer, than the app store lets the buyer to re-download/re-install the app.I've charged for this download afterwards, because i was using virtual credit card, there was not enough money transferred to that card during that download but the app store let me download it anyway. I haven't charged before the download, the app store first let me to download it then it requested that amount of money for next download wich it was a free app. Can anybody enlight me? thanks

    Hi ...
i also wanted to have a copy of the installation disc in case of a crash
If you have problems with your Mac you use Lion Recovery
However, you can create your own installation disc >  How to create an OS X Lion installation disc | MacFixIt - CNET Reviews
Since Lion came pre installed on your Mac, the App Store doesn't not recognize that as a purchase so you if you want to re download Lion to create a boot disk you will have to pay for it. You can then re download Lion on all your authorized Macs for free.

  • How do I do this:  "This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk?"

"This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk."

Stick the disk in, reboot holding c.
Disk Utility is a menu option about the 2 or 3rd screen in the installer. (don't install OS X!)
Because your booted form the installer disk, you can repair the disk.
Quit and exit the installer and reboot.
If your drive is not repaired, make a note of all what it says, for Apple to use.
Reboot and get your files off to a external drive,
Take the note and your comptuer to Apple for a warranty/Apple care call, they will replace the drive.
