Use of US Apple TV in Europe?

Would an Apple TV purchased in the US work correctly in Europe? I specifically concerned about the power supply (i.e. 110v/60Hz vs 220v/50Hz) - can the US model handle 220v?
I would buy one here, but the pricing is criminal - to buy an Apple TV in the Netherlands is Euro 269, whereas in the US it sells for only $229 (equivalent to Euro 159 at today's rates). In other words, it's $160 more expensive in The Netherlands - and there's no support for movie rentals!!

Yes.
You only need an adapter or local figure 8 terminated power lead - AppleTV has a universal transformer.

Suspect you know but you still won't be able to rent just because it's a US machine unless you have a US iTunes account.

  • The lack of  Apple Service in Europe

Last april I bought a MacBook Pro 1.83 GHz during my stay in the US. I always preferred the us keyboard layouts, and since Apple claims to give a worldwide warranty I thought it would be no problem.
The first MacBook Pro had a dead pixel. To me that's unacceptable, so I went back to the shop. They didn't want to replace it, and said they also couldn't repair it under warranty. After making all sorts of trouble I finally got a new one. I was happy - for a short while.
But soon after that, I noticed how bloody hot the thing got and experienced the annoying cpu whine. For a 'professional' product, this is totally unacceptable. If I would have been informed about these flaws before I bought it, obviously I would have taken my business somewhere else. So back in the Netherlands I went to the local Apple Center. They tried repairing it twice, replacing the logic board. This didn't help at all. Then they refused to help any further as they said there was no official solution from Apple for these problems, so I contaced Apple Europe. They were willing to replace the machine. It's impossible for them to pick up the old one and bring the new one at the same time, so you don't have a laptop for 10-15 days. Thanks Apple. In Europe, they also cannot give you a version with a us keyboard layout. Worldwide warranty will result in basically a different product. Which is interesting, since the MacBook Pro was shipped directly from China (so I bet the one made before and after mine have us keyboards). We discussed the layout and it seemed to be similar to the us version, but on receiving the new one it turns out it is different.
So much for Apple Worldwide Warranty.
Anyway the new version has exactly the same problems. It actually got worse, because they gave me 1 GB RAM instead of the 1.5 I had before, and now I have a keyboard that *****. I contacted Fernand Kuijken from Apple Europe in Ireland, and he said I should have it repaired in the Apple Center I went to before. I told him that they refuse to repair it, so he said I should just go to another one and drive a bit further. No solution for the keyboard was given, nor any explanation why I have less RAM than we agreed. In essence, Apple stole 512 MB of RAM, and gave me a crappy machine that overheats, whines, and has a terrible keyboard.
I told him this was unacceptable, and that I demanded a refund. I have had 5 versions of the MacBook Pro and none of them works properly. Apparantly, Apple can't make a decent MacBook Pro. Mr Kuijken claimed that normally that's no problem, but since I bought it in the US I would have to go back there to get my money back! Well that's realistic. Worldwide warranty? I think not! After I told him that according to the worldwide warranty the consumer rights of the Netherlands apply, which basically means after three times I have the right to demand my money back, he literally said "i advise you to start a lawsuit". If this is the attitude of Apple worldwide then that is insane. If they cannot fix a product or replace it with a decent one, they have no right to leave the customer in the cold like that.
Apparantly Apple is trying to just keep repairing and replacing the product until you are out of warranty? This is my first experience with Apple, and a very dissappointing one. I though Apple meant quality and service, but it means crappy products that shouldn't really be on the market yet, and lousy customer service.
I was wondering how many others have had problems with the "Apple Service" in Europe? When it comes to refunds, do they always have this insane attitude?
MacBook Pro 1.83 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Well that's a bit silly isn't it?
First of all, the fact it doesn't bother you doesn't mean it doesn't bother others.
Second, most customers expect a bit more from a 'professional' product of over 2000 euros than from a product of half that amount. If I'd buy a laptop of 800 euros that runs a bit hot, you won't hear me complaining.
Third, maybe you use your machine a bit different than others. For my work, both cores are often running at full pace, making the thing uncomfortably hot. I obviously can't use it on my lap, and always working with sweaty hands is also not what I had in mind when I bought the thing. And the whine make it useless doing creative work like writing in a silent environment, certainly because of the fact it constantly interrupts and goes on and is not very constant. Furthermore, it makes it useless for sound recording.
Fourth, selling it is a stupid idea. I'd have to sell it at a loss, while I am entitled to a decent product, or a full refund if a decent product is not possible.
So if you have a proper solution I'd love to hear it, otherwise your input is quite useless.

  • What happens on iCloud (ex. contacts) when multiple family members use the same Apple ID?

What happens on iCloud when multiple family members use the same Apple ID?  For example if we all choose to use iCloud for contacts, are they all merged together?  We use the same Apple ID so we can use find my iPhone to keep track of the whole family.

Of course if you are both connected to the same iCloud account you have the same contacts - what did you expect?. The contacts live on the server and are read from there by the devices; so as you've both managed to sync your contacts up to iCloud they are now inextricably mixed. You can only delete your contacts by deleting individual ones, and doing that will delete them from your phone as well.
You can only unravel this by
    1. In the iCloud contacts page at http://icloud.com, select all the contacts, click on the cogwheel icon at bottom left and choose 'Export vCard'.
    2. Sign out of System Preferences>iCloud
    3. Create a new Apple ID and open a new iCloud account with it for your own use.
    4. Import the vCard back into the iCloud contacts page.
    5. Go to http://icloud.com and sign in with the original ID. This is now his ID. Work through the contacts individually deleting the ones you don't want him to have. When done sign out and advise him to change his password.
    6. Go to the new iCloud account and delete his contacts individually.
Of course if you have also been syncing calendars and using the same email address there are problems with doing this.

  • How can I stop using my primary Apple ID (Gmail) but leave my secondary Apple ID (icloud) as primary ond only ONE?

    Good afternoon friends.
Please help me and tell how can I stop using my primary Apple ID (Gmail) but leave my secondary Apple ID (icloud) as primary ond only ONE?
I started using Apple ID in 2011 when iCloud was not exist and was forced to use non-apple e-mail adress as primary ID.
    So I used GMail mailbox.
When iCloud was started I created my account but unfortunatelly can't remove this Gmail address from my Apple ID and replace it with icloud mail address.
I was VERY dissapointed because I don't want to use "outside" mailbox to get letters from Apple and ny ID.
In fact I see the Apple old users and fans discrimination.
When creating new user accounts are free to create a box on the iCloud mail and use it as a primary ID, and the only ONE.
At the same time the old user is obliged to keep third-party mail box like Gmail etc. as the primary and can not get such an opportunity, as a new user
This is extremely inconvenient and a VERY strange logical.
For example, now I want to stop using this mailbox on Gmail but I can not do that because in this case I lose access to my ID, or run the risk that someone in the future will create a box with the same name on Gmail (when name will be free and available) and will automatically get access to my accounts on Apple and to my Apple ID.
Now, to avoid this, your team, I offer the only way out: ID, create anew.
Of course it's possible, but then:
    - I lose all my purchases for 3 years and will be forced to make them again and pay money for the second time for my purchases
    - Lose access to the familiar iCloud e-mail address who now serves as secondary ID because this e-mail address is almost no longer available and will never be released in future.
And now answer me for ONLY TWO questions:
    - WHERE IS LOGIC?
    - WHAT ABOUT TO BE FRIENDLY FOR YOUR USERS AND FANS?
    Thank you!
    Hopefully for your GOOD answers.

You cannot make your @icloud.com address the login address for the ID. However you can change your ID, currently a Gmail one, to any other functioning non-Apple email address. The Gmail address would then no longer access your account, and so even if someone were to obtain posession of it (is that even possible) it wouldn't allow them to get into your account.
If you want to change your ID to another email address please follow the procedure outlined below, particularly noting the first step.
Firstly, if you have 'Find My iPhone/iPad/iMac' enabled on any of your devices, turn it off.
Create a new email address, for example  at Yahoo or Gmail, or anywhere convenient (or you can use an existing address as long as it has never been associated with an Apple ID).
Go to http://appleid.apple.com and click 'Manage your Apple ID'. Sign in with the current ID.
Where it says 'Apple ID and primary email address' and gives your current ID email address, click 'edit'.
Enter your new address and click 'Save changes'.
Now you will need to go to each of your devices and sign out in System Preferences (or Settings)>iCloud - 'Sign out' on a Mac, 'Delete this account' on an iOS device (this will not delete the account from the server).
Then sign back in with your new ID. Your iCloud data will disappear from your devices when you sign out, but reappear when you sign back in.
I re-iterate: before you start, turn off 'Find My Mac' (or whatever) or you will need the services of Support.

  • HT204053 If I start using a new apple ID will I lose all my old purchases the next time I sync?

    Hello,
I'm really, really confused and I'd appreciate some advice.  I came here after searching for information on merging two apple IDs so let me start my saying that I understand that I cannot do this.  I get that.  The FAQ says I just need to start using my preferred Apple ID from now on.  How exactly do I do this?  Is it as simple as logging in with the preferred ID next time I purchase something?  If I do that, what would happen to all my purchases under the old Apple ID the next time I sync my devices?
Here is the background to my situation:
I created an Apple ID when I first got an iPod many years ago.  It was my e-mail address at the time.  All my iTunes purchases have been made with that ID.
I bought my first Mac a couple of years ago.  At the same time I purchased a MobileMe subscription.  My MobileMe subscription was later converted to an iCloud account.
I'm no longer with the ISP that provided me with the e-mail address used for my first Apple ID.  My only e-mail account is now my me.com address.
I tried to change my Apple ID to my new e-mail address but it said it couldn't be done because my me.com e-mail is already in use.
All my iTunes receipts go to my old e-mail address that I no longer have access to.  I'd like my receipts to go to my me.com address.
I have a MacBook Pro, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch (all synced through iCloud), I also have an iPod Shuffle.
In order to get my iTunes and App Store receipts to go to my me.com address, I think the FAQs are telling me that I need to start using my me.com address as my preferred Apple ID.  It seems to gives me an option of changing my e-mail address for communications but as soon as it realises that it is a me.com address it says I can't do it.
I'm concerned that if I just make make my next purchase with my me.com ID the next time I sync my devices I'll just have one song on there rather than my entire library.  Can somebody please guide me through this?

You need to retain the ID you are currently using for iTunes in order to retain access to your purchases. You should go to http://appleid.apple.com and log in using the iTunes ID, and add a contact address there - you could get a GMail account (free). You may be able to forward mail on from GMail to your @me.com address, I'm not sure about that.
You can continue to use the ex-MobileMe ID for iCloud - there is no problem about using two IDs in this way.

  • Multiple devices using the one Apple ID

    Hi
We have multiple devices (2 x iPhone and 2 x iPod Touch) that use the one Apple ID for our family.  As we all have separate email accounts, calendars and contacts, do we need to create individual Apple ID for iCloud syncing and iTunes purchases or is it possible to destinguish devices use the one ID?
Appreciate any guidance here, as not keen on setting up new Apple ID's for young children.
    Thanks

Sorry, just want to chime in and say that we have this issue too. We have only three devices, Mac, PC, and iPod touch. But we have two each of separate email accounts, address books, and calendars. We decided several years ago to use one Apple ID for iTunes only on one computer and the iPod. But how will several adults in a family share an Apple ID and iTunes login, but enable separate email, contacts, and calendars in iCloud? We really want this to work.
    Thanks very much!
OH, wait - it looks like it is answered here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3102518
The answer is a little bit hard to understand, so I will keep reading. We did not have Mobile me addresses, so I guess we will create two new ones.
I'll post more threads if I find them.

  • How to use the same apple id on two different iphones with different sync?

    Hi all,
I own an iPhone 4s for personal use. Soon my company is going to give me a business phone and I can choose to have another iPhone. I'd love it but I don't know if what I wanna do is possible.
Let's say I will have iPhone P (personal) and iPhone B (business) and Apple ID MyID.
At the moment on iPhone P with account MyID I have application App1, App2, ... App9, I have contacts Cont1, Cont2, ...Cont9, I have songs Song1, Song2, ... Song9. All these are synced on my personal PC via iTunes and stored in the iCloud.
When I'll get iPhone B I'd love to be able to use on it my Apple ID MyID and to sync it with my business PC (so NOT the same one I use for iPhone P).
The configuration I'd love to have would be the following.
    iPhone P
    - Applications: App1, App2, App3, App8, App9
    - Contacts: Cont1, Cont2, ... Cont9
    - Songs: Song1, Song2, ... Song9
    iPhone B
    - Applications: App4, App5,App6, App7, App8, App9, App10 etc.
    - Contacts: Cont1, Cont2, Cont10, Cont11, ..., Cont20
    - Songs: Song1, Song2, Song10, Song11, ... Song20
So will it be possible using the same Apple ID MyID on both iPhones to have this configuration? Some apps, contacts and songs in common and some differents?
If so, how should I configure the two iPhones and the two PCs?
    Kind regards.

If you use the same Apple ID for iCloud on each device, yes. However, you can use the same Apple ID for iTunes content on each device, but different Apple ID's for iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, etc., on each device. That way, you can have whatever iTunes content you want on each phone, but keep all of the other data separate. You can create another Apple ID here:
    https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/wa/createAppleId?loca lang=en_US
Must be a verified email address.

  • This email address is already in use or you may already have an Apple ID associated with this email address. Please try again or sign in using your existing Apple ID.

My current Apple ID, for which all of my content has been downoaded (e.g., music, apps) is associated with a work email address that I will no longer have access to in the near future.  In my Apple ID account, I noticed I had two alternate emails listed, one is my .me account and the other is my .gmail account.  I use my .gmail account, and it is the primary email I use with friends and family.  I noticed both were not verified, and when I tried to, it said they were both associated with other accounts.  I was able to log into a separate Apple ID account I must have set up at tone point with my .gmail, and I changed the email address to a new one I created.  I also deleted the gmail account from any other Apple-relted account I could think of.  I am still gettgin the same error message when I try to add it to my current Apple ID: "This email address is already in use or you may already have an Apple ID associated with this email address. Please try again or sign in using your existing Apple ID."
My concern is this: with FaceTime and now iMessage, it seems more important than ever that I am able to use my correct email address.  With iOS5 beta, I cannot enter either my .gmail or.me accounts under "You can be reached for messages at:" as I get an error stating: Unable to verify email because it is already in use."
How can I remedy this issue and assign my .gmail account to my Apple ID?

I just spoke with a technician at Apple.  I hsven't been able to verify because the wife has the phone.  but he said all that you need to do is:
    1) Go to Settings --> iTunes Store and login with your Apple ID and pwd
    2) Go to Settings --> iCloud and login with your Apple ID and pwd
seems that the phone requires you to login to the store first...

  • Can you use the same Apple ID on more than one MacBook Pro for updates and applications?

We just got a few new MacBook Pro's and when I went to install updates it said I need to make an Apple ID.  Can you use the same Apple ID and email address for that Apple ID on multiple machines, or do I need them both to be unique per machine?  I'm not sure how that works when you have multiple machines.

An Apple ID is a user name you use for everything you do with Apple. Creating an account for an Apple service, such as the iTunes Store or the App Store, creates an Apple ID. Apple ID allows you to access other Apple services.   So you can use the same Apple ID for up to 10 Macs associated with it.
To create an Apple ID you need to enter  your full name and your primary email address as your Apple ID. This will be used as the contact email address for your account.
