You are mistaken, Jim. Have had no luck getting that program to work on my computer. I did manage to get macam to work with my old camera for use as a webcam with quicktime and Skype so that will have to do with that for now.
You are mistaken, David.
The Panther versions of iChat can work with
many USB webcams when used in conjunction with iChatUSBC
am software.
As shown in the "Compatibility/System
Requirements:" at the top of the iChatUSBCam installation page, iChatUSBCam works with
"iChat AV 2.0 or higher".
iChat AV 2.0 and iChat AV 2.1 both run in the
Panther OS, and both are supported.
You do not need to take my word, or that of the
iChatUSBCam people, about this. There are many
reported cases of successful use of USB webcams in iChat AV 2.1
& earlier Discussions. Here are a couple of
examples of success for Panther

  • Using a sony camcorder for skype on LG smart TV

    Hello,
I am trying to get skype set up on my LG smart TV.  I've downloaded the app, but it will not open.  It keeps bringing up a page that tells me to buy a skype camera for the TV.  I've just recently purchased a very nice, top of the line Sony camcorder.   In previous posts that I've read the reason for the special camera is that the microphone is better.  However, I cannot believe that the sony camcorder I have will not work on the tv.
Has anyone had any luck with using a camcorder with their smart TV?  Also, how do I sign into my skype account on the TV without connecting a camera?
    Thanks,
    Nick

Hi and welcome to the Skype Community,
It could also be that the other party is not sending 16:9 video any longer. Did they maybe change their camera, computer hardware or internet connection speed and are not able to send 16:9 therefor any longer?

    See this thread:

    FIX:
    1. You need Time Machine
    2. Go to folder /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/
    3. Copy AppleCamera.plugin to good place (usb memory stick is the best place).
    4. Go to Time machine in date that skype work fine.
    5. Change AppleCamera.plugin with file from Time Machine
    6. Restart system, Now skype need to work with camera.
    If that doesnt pass,

  • Help picking out a new video camcorder...what format do I use?

Help! I want to purchase a new HD video camcorder. I want a good unit with a limit being close to the $1,000 range. I will make some short movies and am struggling with what to purchase. I use FCE 4.01 for most of my editing, and sometimes I will use iMovie as well.
My struggle is the format. I've read so much stuff that I'm confused on what to purchase. I've used MiniDV in the past, yet there are a number of other formats out now and it appears that many of them will not work with my gear.
Can someone just give me a straight answer, do I stay with a tape unit, even though they are phasing this out? Or do I purchase another type of format. It needs to work with my MAC and not have any problems, hangups, or have to go through various steps and other programs to be able to use it. So simplicity is important. But I also don't want to be hard headed if I need to use another format.
Your help is very much appreciated.
    Mike

    Mike Domke wrote:
.. AVCHD... I can use it, but it must be converted even though my MAC and FCE support the AVCHD format.
'supports' means: import from. - then, under the hood, out of your control, hidden in the woods.. ooops... - AVCHD gets converted into an edit-intermediate. you can not edit AVCHD natively on a Mac with iM or FCE. this transformation is mainly lossless. only thing, you'll notice: the content from you 8GB-SDcard grabs 40-60GBs on your Mac! => so high compressed is AVCHD, and for edit, you need each frame of video free accessible.. files get expanded..
As for easy to use, the HDV on miniDV tape is smooth. The biggest drawback is the length of time that it takes to import into the computer. And of course the fact that it is outdated.
naw, not outdated.. on a semi-pro level, tape is still #1. and that real-time import.. as a hobbyist, I'm not in a hurry..
biggest advantage: actually HDV is the ONLY format which allows to play-out your HiDef projects back to some media (=tiny miniDVtapes) .. AVCHD is one-way-only.. when edit done, then...? BluRay? extra costs, 'cause 3rd party solutions needed. MediaCenter? Extra.. AppleTV? No support of FullHD.. yet. Tape, Holocrystal, The Cloud...? Nope. AVCHD-sourced-projects can only be stored on harddrives. and even more harddrives.. you need additional harddrives for backups of the harddrives .. ... .. ... ...
I was actually thinking Canon based on all the reviews I have been reading.
they have an excellent reputation (some miniDVs acted iffy..) , Canon builds its own components, Canon is a brand in professional broadcasting.. I like them.. allthough my actual cam is a Sony :)))

  • Way to use Live video (from camcorder) as a background?

    Hello.
I was wondering if there's any way to use live video (from camcorder) as a background using Keynote.
I am trying to add caption/subtitle on live video to projector.

I haven't tried this myself recently (the last time I tried it, the delay was frozen to no less than 3 seconds), but a user in this thread said he got the delay down to .1 seconds by using QuickTime Broadcaster and altering the .sdp file.
This technique uses Broadcaster to make your computer stream to itself and use the stream file in Keynote.

  • Panasonic camcorder HDC-TM90 any experience using Pavtube Video Converter with Final Cut Pro X

Does anyone have any experience using Pavtube Video Converter with Final Cut Pro X for Panasonic camcorder HDC-TM90 shooting in 1080 P 60 ( mts file extension)

Don't use these generic offbrand converters to get footage into FCP X. they re-encode your video and cause loss of quality. If FCP X cannot import your video then use a utility that simply re-wraps it into a quicktime file with no transcoding or loss. I prefer Clipwrap which works great and is updated frequently but there are free alternatives like Media Converter or Rewrap.
But version 10.04 of FCP X should import it directly from camera as long as the folder structure is complete and you are not trying to merely import it from single mts files.

    Hello, Dave
Have you taken a tape shot on the GL-1 and used the
Sony camera to capture the footage via firewire? Do
the vertical stripes show up when shooting 4:3?
Yes, I have done that and yes, the vertical stripes still appear. The vertical stripes appear both in 4:3 and 16:9 footage.
If the vertical lines don't show up on your NTSC
preview monitor, I wouldn't worry about it. They are
probably outside of the safe area and won't affect
    its viewability much.
You are probably right, Dave, it's quite possible that the vertical stripes are outside of the safe area in 4:3. However, I am new to 16:9. Is this the case also in 16:9? I am talking about maybe 20 or 30 pixels wide black bands on either side of the frame.
If you are capturing the video via analog from the
canon into some type of DV bridge, These vertical
bands are normal and represent horizontal sync
    characteristics.
No, I am capturing the video directly through Firewire.
Canon does several tings in anunique way that differs
from what a person would expect. You may have
stumbled onto one of Canon's quirks.
I think you are right about that too. I emailed Canon technical support a little Quicktime movie containing two shots, one from the GL-1 and one from the Sony, but I haven't heard back from them yet...
    Hope this helps. Post back.
    Regards,
    Dave F

  • Making video calls on skype

hi,I'm unable to make video calls on skype, i have a trust 17405 webcam, the trust drivers for this cam cause my pc to crash, without the drivers i'm still able to get a video image on trusts diagnostic tool on their webpage.i'm using a pentium 3, running win xp sp 3, the skype version is 7.5.0.102can someone please give me some help resolving this issue?

Even if your camera works outside Skype it will not work in Skype.  This is because a processor requiring the SSE2 instruction set (Pentium 4 compatible or above) is required to use video in any Skype releases since Feb 2014.  Since releases of Skype that old have been retried you will not be able to use video at all using that computer.

  • Use of external camcorder

    Hi
I have a late 2012 Imac and want to record directly using an external camcorder  [Sony HDR-CX190E].  I just dont seem to be able to get iMovie to recognise that i have connected an external camcorder.  It always just finds the isight camera.  Can anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance
    P

    (1) I don't think camcorder recording directly into iMovie is going to work with your Flash Memory-based camcorder.
    As explained in http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2155
... If your computer doesn’t come with a built-in iSight camera, connect a tape-based camera or camcorder...
A tape-based camera with Firewire connectivity like my Canon VIXIA HV40 works splendidly.  Sony also makes some Tape-based, Firewire-connected hi-def camcorders in a higher price range, but I personally have not tested any of them.
    (2) For help getting iMovie to recognize your camcorder for importing video you have recorded on the camcorder so you can edit it iMovie, see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1059#3

  • Flip Video Camcorder

The Flip Video Camcorder. Simple and cheap for my kids. Can it be used with Mac? Will it open in iMovie?

My MAC Updater downloaded the new QT 7.4.5 on 5 Apr 2008. I have been making movies in iMovie, and then posting them to YouTube. In the beginning I uploaded the movies as MOV files but soon discovered AVI files (larger file and longer time to upload) had more clarity when viewed on YouTube. Once the new QT 7.4.5 downloaded all my AVI files had picture, but no sound! I downloaded the Perian component as posted in QT discussions. The sound returned to the AVI files. However, when I Exported an AVI movie from iMovie the picture quality was worse than the MOV movie. There is something wrong with the new QT 7.4.5 when working with AVI, my AVI movies look terrible. These AVI files were all downloaded from my Ultra Flip Video camera with Flip’s codec 3vix. Flip is aware of this problem and acknowledged it last Friday. Flip says Apple is aware of the problem.
My MAC PowerPc G4 has performed well in the past two months when working with the Flip Video camera. So, at Flip Video’s suggestion I upgraded the operating system to OS 10.5 from OS 10.4.11. Flip Video says their camera works with OS 10.5. Once OS 10.5 was uploaded I soon discovered that iMovie 08 would not operate on my PowerPc G4, 1.86 MHz. The speed requirement for iMovie 08 is 1.9 GHz.
At this point of “spinning my wheels for nearly a month” with this Flip Video camera, I decided to purchase a new iMac. On May 2, 2008, I walked out of the Apple Store in Walnut Creek with the new iMac 20-inch: 2.66GHz. Now the Flip video camera should work and all my video problems solved. However, this was not to be.
When I attempted to Import Flip Video AVI and MOV files into iMovie 08 the files were “grayed out” and would not Import. None of my previous Flip Video files would Import. I tried making new Flip Video movies, they also would not Import into iMovie 08.
At another Apple Store, the tech suggested I download the previous version of iMovie HD. I did this and with hours of working through the different Export options I was able to create movies to post again on youTube. However, the picture quality of the newer iMovies has never approached the quality of my last post before QT 7.4.5 downloaded. Remember my problems started with QT 7.4.5. Well, my new iMac came with QT 7.4.1, I have not Uploaded QT 7.4.5 and won’t until Flip Video fixes this problem.
Examples of my Flip Video movies can be viewed on youTube at: sffoggydays. The last video with excellent picture quality was posted 6 Apr 2008 titled “A Day at the San Francisco Zoo, Chapter Nine, L-Taravel Ride to BART.” This video was made in iMovie and Exported before QT 7.4.5 downloaded. All the youTube Flip Videos made after 6 Apr 2008 have poor picture quality.
It is time for Flip Video camera to stop “passing the buck” to Apple. When manufactures of operating system such as Apple and Microsoft create newer and upgraded systems, it is the responsibility of the manufactures of applications to redo the programs for operating on the new systems. Here is where Flip Video is not accepting this responsibility to Mac users of their camera. The Flip Video application/codex/drivers need to be updated in order to fix the following problems:
    - No sound on AVI files in QT 7.4.5
    - No Import of AVI and MOV files in iMovie 08
    - Poor picture quality for youTube in Export of iMovie HD
I like my Flip Video camera, want to continue making movies for youTube, and recommending the camera to others. The Flip Video camera people need to fix these problems for Mac users.

  • Can I use ION VIDEO 2 PC on my iMac?

Can I use ION VIDEO 2 PC on my iMac?  .....OR what can my friend use instead?
My friend has an iMac, she used to have Tiger 10.4, then upgraded to I think the Leopard, Snow Leopard, or even to Lion...she doesn't even know.  The one thing that I think gave it a way was the PC part of Video 2 PC.....Apples are NOT PC's...right?  An apple is an Apple, and a PC is everything else?
My friend bought this ION VIDEO 2 PC, but she has an APPLE iMac, not a reg. PC.
Not sure what Apple O.S. she has.  She did have Tiger 10.4 OS, but may have upgraded to LION or at least Snow Leopard 10.6... ???
My Main question is this.....Can she use this ION VIDEO 2 PC device to capture video from either her HD Camcorder or analog camcorder?  I don't know if she has iMovie or iDvd, then use the ION device to capture, then use her apple software to maybe edit/burn DVD's.
Thanks for any help!  OR, does she need to return this, and then get something a little more iMAC friendly?    ( ‘Grass Valley’ or ‘Pinnacle Studio’ software?)
She doesn’t know much about computers, not Apples nor PC’s.  She doesn’t even know if she has the iMovie or iDVD installed on her iMac. I’m just trying to help her capturing video from both her Analog or digital camcorders, then burning to DVD.

    shldr2thewheel wrote:
Apples and every other brand of computers are PC's (short for "personal computer"), but Apple wanted to differentiate themselves from the other manfacturers.
OT: That is not quite correct. The term "personal computer" (common noun) emerged in the 1970s to distinguish microcomputers from minicomputers and mainframes.
There were a variety of architecture and platforms; great names from that age (Commodore, Wang) are now largely forgotten. Apple emerged in the second half of the decade with the Apple I personal computer.
At the beginning of the 1980s, IBM, dominant in the mainframe business, decided to enter the personal computer market, and it did so with the IBM 5150, or the IBM PC ("Personal Computer" -- proper noun). Due to several factors (including IBM's size and power) this platform became a virtual industry standard. While other platforms fell by the wayside, various manufacturers began to build "IBM PC-compatible" products; the terms then became "PC-comaptible", and, nowadays, just "PC".
As long as Apple's computers were based on a different processor architecture, they were personal computers, but they were not PCs. After Apple switched to the current Intel processor line, it became debatable whether its computers are PCs, or a different type of personal computer. I don't have the intimate understanding of the PC hardware platform necessary to have an opinion on the topic. For a good many people a "PC" actually means a Wintel machine, ie, a personal computer based on the Intel x86 (or compatible) architecture, designed to run under Windows; a Mac complies with the former, but not with the latter, so it's still not a PC in that sense.

  • Data used for a 25 minute skype call

    Hello,
I am using skype 7.0 for windows PC to make 25 minute skype calls for work. I am just on an 800mb limit per day. According to my ISP's Web site, 800 mb is enough to make 4.5 hours of skype calls. But I saw that for just one skype call, my statistics tab showed I consumed about 350+mb already after just one 25 minute skype call. So if this is the case for every skype call I make, I can only make 2-3 25 minute skype calls before my ISP limits my internet usage for the day.
How much data is used for 1 25 minute skype call using PC ?
I think my ISP's Web site is misleading about skype calls.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can still have your video on and your student can have their video off.  If they "call" you instead of "video call" you, their video will never be engaged and you can just turn your video on from that point.  The big problem with ISP bandwidth restrictions is that their limitation tends to count upload and download which greatly reduces your overall real bandwidth.  You can use this as a guide as well to guesstimate.
    http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-archive/Bandwidth-Consumption-Question-Again/m-p/2887243/highl...
Be aware that this only accounts for one-way communication.  If you were to both have your video on at the same quality the figure would double.  If your student only has audio engaged then you would only add 25 minutes of "äudio" to gauge an approximation.  Since Skype is "automatic" call quality can go up or down.  Netlimeter or it's equivalent is the only real way to lower the video quality other than using a much lower resolution camera.
In regards to your ISP's "video conferencing" calculation, it's not pulled out of a hat.  It appears to be calculated off a total video conferencing rate of 384k which is generally at a CIF/SIF resolution (~352x288 or lower).  Skype's video quality operates at a higher rate that even supersedes their 90-minute movie estimate they provided as well.  If you were to compare either a 90-minute DVD quality video or a 90-minute Blu-ray quality video the bandwidth would of course be surpassed as well as downloaded/watched movies vary in quality as well.
I believe the average amount of bandwidth consumption for typical households can be upwards of 150-300+ Gigabytes a month.  Low metered accounts are generally for mobile devices or people who don't plan to use the Internet beyond basic web searching and e-mail.  I personally would use a plan like that to get Internet in remote places but I wouldn't plan to do anything beyond the basics.
In regards to overage of bandwidth consumption ISPs either:
    1.  Terminate the data service for the month when exceeded
    2.  Charge you overage charges at a set cost per MB or GB.
    3.  Allow you to continue to use the service but cap your Internet speed to twice that of dial-up (115kbp/s) or possibly even lower.
