Use old docking statio on new laptop?

We have an 2008 HP docking station (KP080AA). Woudl I be right in thinking that this won't work on a new laptop (eg a 6475b, though we haven't bought one yet). They use a 2012 DOcking Station, A7E32AA
They look virtually the same in pictures, but have different rear connectors - ie no modem on the new one, USB 3 instead of USB 2.
Thanks,

It depends on the laptop you try to attach to it, but here is the best compatibility information I can find:
KP080AA - HP Business Notebook 6500, 6700, 6900, 8500, 8700, nc4200, nc4400, Tablet 6900, 8500, 8700 Series Docking Station
The 6475b does not appear to be compatible.

  • HT1451 I need to move my library from my old computer to my new laptop. What's the best way to do this?

I need to move my library from my old computer to my new laptop (Windows 8). What's the best way to do this?

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data. If you don't have any Apple devices then see HT2519 - Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.

(After my old laptop blew, it won't turn on anymore). I've invested quite a bit of money into my music, and it'd be a bummer if it's all gone to waste.
    Thanks in advance!

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.

Is there a way to get my books from my old computer unto my new laptop?

What are the models of each computer? Open System Preferences in the Utilities folder. Report what you see displayed as the Model Identifier for each computer you have. Or, if you know what Firewire ports look like just check the ports for each computer. They would also be shown it the user manuals for each computer.

  • How do I transfer my music from my old PC to my new laptop using my iPhone?

I recently purchased a new laptop and would like to transfer all my songs from my PC to this laptop. however i heard that you could do this using the iPhone which all the music is on. my itunes on my laptop registers all the songs, it just wont let me transfer them to my library. any suggestions?

Hello, As long as all the music content came from the iTunes WiFi Store, or iTunes Store on the PC/Mac you can transfer it on up to 5 total machines.
Step 1: Launch itunes - Click Store in itunes menu bar - click authorize computer - and login into the apple ID you used to purchase all your content. You should get a success message
Step 2: Connect iPhone, Cancel anything syncing alerts. Especially cancel if it says it has to erase and sync as you do not want to erase your media content yet.
Step 3. Now click File in iTunes menu bar - Then click transfer purchases from "iPhone name"
This will scan iPhone. And copy content back into iTunes that came from iTunes WiFi Store or iTunes Store.
Once this is done you can setup normal music media sync. Keep in mind it will still need to erase and sync but since content is in iTunes now it will come back.
Please keep in mind any content from CDs is a 1 way sync. And you will need the CDs to put music back into iTunes.

The iphone is not a backup device.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backu copy of your computer.  Copy everything from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

  • Old Ipod photo but new laptop

    Hi all,
as far as I know, to prevent piracy and stuff an ipod can be connected and can take music only from that one computer it is formatted to right???
So now my biggest question is that my ipod has been formatted to my old toshiba laptop (windows XP) which I am going to discard very soon and buy a new one with windows XP pro.
Now is it possible for me to connect my ipod to my new laptop and import music into it like I;ve always been doing? Or is it that I'll have to take some kind of a backup and reformat my ipod to this new laptop and then dump all my music back into it???
SOMEBODY!!!! please help me soon cuz I am going to discard my old laptop with which my ipod's been working since its day of purchase and I dont want that my purchasing a new lptop should erase my entire pod or pose problems to put music into it
what is the best way to go about in this scenario...KINDLY help!!!
ipod 30 GB photo   Windows XP

You can't sync or drag your music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs but not playlists back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
If you haven't already done so, change the update setting for your iPod to manual. If you are using the iPod in manual update mode, your iPod is safe from being accidentally erased when you connect to an empty iTunes on your new computer:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing Your Songs Manually
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • How to reuse old Itunes library in new laptop?

    Hi,
I'm kind of new to Itunes. Here is my scenario:  I have old computer with Windows XP.  I think i have Itunes library installed in My Music folder in the internal HD. All of my music (WAV, MP3, AIFF) are in external HD.
Now i want to move all to the new laptop  and still want to use external HD. Also, i have an Ipad 2 which i have been using new Itunes to sync movies. I recognize that new Itunes has folder called Itunes Media and it's different from what i have in the old computer
My question: how can i move from old computer to new computer without going thru all the steps of creating library, playlist again without changing structure in new computer? Do i need to put all in external HD or just the physical music files?
    thanks.

    Sofrina Hinton wrote:
okay, i found my problem. i had not changed the name of Itunes folder on the new comp so the transferred folder was called Itunes Music.
That was not the problem. Don't rename the iTunes music folder.
The iTunes music folder is inside the iTunes folder.
The /Music/iTunes/ folder is the entire library.
You need to copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from the old computer.

  • How to Access and Update Existing DW site using DW 5.5 on new laptop?

We already use InDesign and have recently upgraded to 5.5.  At the same time my partner bought a new laptop and decided to upgrade his version of DW. This was an early version, with no upgrade path, so he bit the bullet and bought DW 5.5  No problems installing it on his new laptop. His site is extensive but very basic -  no addons. He has a good basic grasp of html.
What he would now like to do, is to download the remote site onto his laptop from its host and in future update it from his laptop.(He travels a lot.) As I said it is an early version of DW, predates CS versions but is just basic html. Is there a generally accepted way of doing this? If so is it in the tutorials etc? He can't find it in theHelp for 5.5?
Just to add, the new laptop would be the only location on which the website wouldbe stored. This is so he can update it from the road and keep to a single version to update.

If you could bear with me a bit longer. My partner has an old version of DW and so some of the interfaces have changed.
Am I correct, he must open the local site on his old pc, using the orignal software on there, and then using Sites/Manage Site options export it in .ste format?  (I am assuming his orignal DW version has these options.) Does he create the new export .ste version with the same name?
At this stage he should then have a .ste version of his site on his old computer. You say he should then" send" this file to the new laptop. Do you meant copy it onto a memory stick and import it to the new laptop as though it were a new file?  Then go to the remote server to access the file there and update it?
One last question, my partner cannot find the command to access his remote site, in DW CS 5.5 - He says it is not where it is on his version. Where is the remote site access command in DW CS 5.5 please?

  • How do i transfer from an old PC to a new laptop?

    Hi,
Just bought myself a new laptop (windows Vista) and selling my old PC (windows Xp) to a friend. How do I transfer all my i-tunes to the new laptop? Can I send as a Win-zip file and then set it up from here or is it more complicated?
    Help!
    Thanks

Probably the most straightforward way to get iTunes onto your new computer is to network it with the old one and copy your iTunes folder across. This works fine if you have been using iTunes to completely manage your music and all your songs are in iTunes Music not in different folders. You can also use this method with an external hard drive, you drag the folder from the old computer to the external drive and then from the drive to the new computer. If the songs in your library are not all in the iTunes Music folder you can consolidate them. When you consolidate, any songs in the iTunes Library that are not in the iTunes Music Folder are copied to the Music Folder and the Library is updated to point to those new files. Files already in the iTunes Music Folder have no changes made to them: Copying all your iTunes files to one location - Windows
Copying the whole folder brings with it the iTunes Music folder and also the iTunes Library (iTunes Library.itl in Windows) database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
When you copy the iTunes folder make sure you put it into the same location on the new computer. This has to be the exact same place, on a PC this is \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will be the same as on the original one Songs, Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings etc. When I moved iTunes a while ago for my daughter I was also using the same version of iTunes, not sure how important that is but it's probably worth keeping them the same.
If you have an iPod it can be used as an external drive and you can move the iTunes folder onto it: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If you have any iTunes purchases in your library don't forget that you'll need to authorise your new computer to play them. Also if you are disposing of the old one remember to deauthorise it so you don't use up one of your allowances: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation
