"Use Preview Files" works in CS5.5 but is "Useless" in CS6

I'm a heavy user of the "Use Previews Files" option when exporting files. This has worked great with Premiere CS5.5 but using the same method in CS6 no longer works and reverts back to rerendering the original files in the timeline and rerendering all the effects on them which is very time consuming since the original files are HD and are being downscaled in a DV widescreen timeline.
Anyone figure out how to get Premiere CS6 to correctly find the preview files when exporting using the "Use Preview Files" option?
In the meantime, I had to load all the preview files I had rendered back into a new timeline and reassemble them in the correct order. Once I did that, I exported this 1 hour 38 minute timeline to an MPEG-2 file which only took 19 minutes instead of the 7 hours it would have taken even with the "Use Preview Files" on and with a fully rendered timeline.
Again, it works great in CS5.5 so something changed in CS6 to make the "Use Preview Files" useless now.
Randy

OK, decided to do a simple project and test the preview files. One HD AVCHD video clip, 24 minutes long. Dropped into a DV widescreen project and the video clip downscaled to match the project. Added a color correction filter, Shadow/Highlight filter and Sharpen filter. Cut the clip into 4 pieces and adjusted the color correction on each. This will generate 4 preview files. This is basically what my larger project involve but with many more video clips.
Did not render timeline or make any preview files then exported an MPEG-2 file. Took 35 minutes.
Rendered timeline which produced 4 preview files in the DV AVI format. Took 1 hour.
Exported an MPEG-2 file again but this time selected "Use Preview Files". Took 35 minutes.
Exported a DV AVI file (same format as the Preview files) but this time selected "Use Preview Files". Took 35 minutes.
Imported the 4 DV AVI preview files and put into a new sequence. Exported an MPEG-2 file using no preview files. Took 3 minutes.
Imported the 4 DV AVI preview files and put into a new sequence. Exported a DV AVI file using no preview files. Took 1 minute 30 seconds.

  • Use preview files unchecked, but uses preview files?

    Premiere Pro CS4 running on Windows XP MCE SP3 on a core two duo processor (Yes, I know it is underpowered, but it works well enough for my current projects) and a three internal HDD setup.
    When exporting to mpeg2 - DVD I make sure to check "maximum render quality" and uncheck "use preview files".
    I noticed that if the timeline is rendered before export, then a one minute video will complete export in about one minute.
    If the timeline is left unrendered before export, however, the export will take about twenty minutes.
    I thought that the export is not affected by whether or not the timeline is rendered as long as preview files are not used.
    Am I mistaken, or is something not right?

    If Use Render Files is unchecked, then the program should not be using them. With MPEG-2, there is not really that much that can be gained, as the Render files are AVI.
    Also, what are the specs. of the Clips on the Timeline?
    I would check things like the WAB (Work Area Bar), just to make sure that you are seeing apples vs apples, so to speak.
    Good luck,

  • Use Previews not working in CS6 Mac

    It was working in 5.5, but appears to be broken for CS6.
    I just rendered a spot using MB Looks on an adjustment layer.  Took 6 minutes.  I then immediately exported the sequence, and it took 6 minutes.  My past experience is that the export should have taken about 18 seconds.
    Anybody else seeing this?  If so, I'll file a bug report.
    MacPro3,1 - 10.7.4 - 32G RAM, Quadro 4000 w/stock OS driver; CUDA 4.2.10 - Pr CS 601

    Be that as it may, Jim, this isn't advertised behavior.  The Help documents specifically claim that using Previews will speed up exports when the output format matches the Sequence settings.
    To wit:
    Work with preview files
    When you render previews, Premiere Pro creates files on your hard disk. These preview files contain the results of any effects that Premiere Pro processed during a preview. If you preview the same work area more than once without making any changes, Premiere Pro instantly plays back the preview files instead of processing the sequence again. Premiere Pro stores the preview files in a folder you can specify. Similarly, preview files can save time when you export the final video program by using the processed effects already stored.

    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WS1c9bc5c2e465a58a91cf0b1038518aef7-7cd7a .html
    I don't want an inferior workaround, I want the software to work as advertised.

  • Using preview files from Pr 5.5

    I use the Suite 5.5 and this question is about Encore when using the Dynamic link from Premier Pro (Pr).  I have always used the automated way to import from Pr to Encore.  It automatically compresses as needed to fill the DVD.  And because my video is almost always under 2 hours that works great.  Even for videos that are over 2 hours long.  Now here is the problem:
    Sometime I use several effects in [Pr] and render so I can better see what I am doing without all that skipping.
    I would like to use the render files (previews) for making the DVD in Encore when transcoding.
    Yes, I understand you go to Edit Quality Presets and at the bottom you checkmark the [Use Previews] box.  But now it is nolonger automatically compressing the file to fit the DVD, or I don't it so.
    So the question is:
    How can I use the preview files (rendered files) from [Pr] to speed up the transcoding in Encore and automatically size fit the Video to fill the DVD.
    Thank you,
    Tom

    I don't think you can get both aspects - automatic or use previews.
    The settings for a dynamic link transcode are in Encore. When a preset is selected, "use previews" is not selected by default, but can be selected by customizing the preset. But you have no control over the settings used for the automatic setting, beyond the default transcode setting, which for DVD is basically the max bitrate.
    A "bit" of bitrate calculation and you'll still be good to go.

  • External monitor preview not working in CS5

    Well its taken almost a month to get my Production premium suite CS5 working (exit code 7 install error) I finally reinstalled win7 pro after dicking with adobe tech support for weeks (they did try to be helpful and polite) and that "cured" the install problem so now I see that the external monitor preview still dosent work as in CS4....anyone know what gives? mine dosent work even if I set to external audio either. After effects-encore and Photoshop external firewire previews all work fine so I know its a bug in Premiere...anyone logged this yet?.On a VERY positive note I absolutely love the "solidity" of Premiere ....I invested in a Quadro fx3800 and well its a beautiful thing really.....is it odd to be in love with hardware and software
    cheers y'all
    steve

    this is a well known limitation of the current CUDA drivers. Adobe is hard at work with Nvidia to solve this, but the work around is to set MPE to software in your project settings. It has high priority AFAIK.
    Wow thanks Harm that was the workaround for now ....brilliant
    cheers

  • Rebuild PremierePro project using Preview Files?

    I'm using PP CS6 on a Mac and I have lost my original video files (long story but they are gone).  The timeline still has the audio but instead of the video, I get a red screen missing media message.
    However, in the Preview Files folder, I can see the full res previews from the entire project.  Is there a way I can ask Premiere to use these preview files to rebuild and export the project?

    Unfortunately, no.

  • Trouble changing Camera RAW settings in Javascript (worked in CS5, but not CS6)

    I just upgraded to Master Collection CS6 from Production Premium CS5, and CameraRAWOpenOptions settings in scripts that I had working in Photoshop CS5 (64-bit) using Extendscript CS5 are no longer working with Photoshop CS6.  I get no error messages, but the settings I specify in the scripts (for example, CameraRAWOpenOptions.exposure=2.00) do not take effect when the image is opened.  Other Photoshop properties and actions within my script are working correctly.
    Note that this is an issue in Photoshop CS6.  I can use Extendscript CS5 or CS6, and the result is the same.
    Here is the way I am changing the settings in my script:
    var RawOptions = new CameraRAWOpenOptions;
    //RawOptions.settings=CameraRAWSettingsType.CUSTOM;
    //RawOptions.settings=CameraRAWSettingsType.SELECTEDIMAGE;
    RawOptions.settings=CameraRAWSettingsType.CAMERA;
    RawOptions.exposure=+2.00;
    RawOptions.vignettingAmount = 0;
    RawOptions.vignettingMidpoint = 0;
    RawOptions.contrast = 50;
    RawOptions.saturation = 0;
    RawOptions.shadows = 0;
    RawOptions.luminanceSmoothing = 0;
    var JPGopts = new JPEGSaveOptions;
    JPGopts.quality = JPEGquality;
    //Perform the loop through the files
    app.open(testListing[0], RawOptions, false);
    app.activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);
    for (var nfile = nstart; nfile < nstop; nfile++)
        app.open(testListing[nfile], RawOptions, false);
        FnameSave = new File(SavePath+"/"+testListing[nfile].name);
        app.activeDocument.saveAs(FnameSave, JPGopts, false, Extension.UPPERCASE);
        app.activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);

    I found a few of them actually work.
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.tint=0; // works (-150 to 150)
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.temperature=5500; // works (2000 to 50000)
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.luminanceSmoothing = 0; // works 0 to 100
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.saturation=50; // works =100 to 100
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.vignettingAmount=0; //works -100 to 100
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.vignettingMidpoint=0; //works -100 to 100
    These ones do not work:
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.brightness=0; // does not work (0 to 150)
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.contrast=0; // does not work (-50 to 100)
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.exposure = 0; // does not work (-4.0 to +4.0)
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.shadows=0; // (0 to 100) does not work
    CameraRAWOpenOptions.whiteBalance=WhiteBalanceType.SHADE; // does not work
    I noticed that, doing File-->File Info--> "Advanced" tab-->expand "Camera Raw Properties" that the ones that do not work have mostly either been removed (brightness) or had "2012" added to their names in the XMP in the conversion from CS5 to CS6.
    It appears the mapping from Javascript objects/properties to how Photoshop knows them is broken with the new version.  Is there any way to fix this?
    Is there an alternate way to do this by going through XMP?
    Unfortunately, I'm wanting to use "exposure", which is one of the ones that is broken.  My main script sets a custom exposure for each image (trying to smooth out EV jumps between successive images in a sunset time lapse).

  • Adobe Jenson Pro Works in CS5 But Not CC Apps

    In FontBook I run "Validate File" on the font and there's no problem. But I can't use the font in any of my CC applications although they work fine in CS5 apps.
    To this point I've been using Linotype FontExplorer X v1.2.3 and all the fonts worked fine in CC... until today. I'd kept all my fonts in Dropbox, but copied the ones I wanted to install onto my MBP HD. I was running out of room on Dropbox so I copied a bunch of files from Dropbox to my HD (including the fonts), then deleted those files from Dropbox.
    Any ideas?

    Sorry; meant "Character" panel.
    First, font works fine in Id, Ai and Ps CS5. I've installed the font family into the ~/Library/Fonts/ folder. Has trouble in TextEdit, though. Notice only five choices in the drop-down on the left but seven font choices in the menu at right:
    InDesign CC gives me choices, but when I choose one it puts parentheses around the choice and tells me the font is missing. Also, choices disappear from the menu, one by one:
    When choosing the font in Photoshop CC:
    My MacBook Pro:
    I've just subscribed to CC, but I don't know what to do about the whole font issue. Though I've not tried other fonts, if it happens with this font it's likely to happen again.
    I appreciate any help or guidance. Thanks!

  • Links in linked local .htlm files work i IE, but not in Firefox.

    I collect genealogy data in tables in local .html files.
    Links in every .html page to parents, families and verifications.
    The first link works OK, but if I click on a link in the already linked .html page, Firefox hangs.
    Using links in this manner works OK when I use IE.
    If this problem is policy related, please advice a method to bypass the policy.

  • SWF files work in browsers, but not local?

    I can view flash content from the net in web browsers, but
    the swf files I have on my local hard drive do not work. They are
    asking for 'open With' but when I look for the flash folder in
    programs files its not there. I have have also looked in system32
    folder can find it anywhere. Can anybody please help, this is
    driving me up the wall.

    The code you have posted is not the same code as used in:
    <div id="gallery">
    in the link above.
    The reason that the Flash is not displaying in FF is that the portion of the code used by FF was omitted. The code currently used on the page only works in IE.
    I'm no great fan of the IE conditional statements used in the code you posted so I don't blame you for not using it. But you do need to provide something for FF.... the old, out dated method would be to add and <embed> for FF... here's the newer method..
    So either use code you posted above or better yet, get rid of that and replace the current <object> with
    <div id="gallery">
    <object id="FlashID" data="flash/201.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="958" height="242">
       <param name="movie" value="flash/201.swf">
       <param name="quality" value="high" />
         <param name="wmode" value="opaque" />
         <param name="swfversion" value="6.0.65.0"/>
    </object>
    </div>
    Give that a try. Will work in both FF and newer IE versions.

  • Flash player file working in HTML but same HTML code is not working in JDEV

    Hello,
    I have a flash player file which is working just fine in a plain HTML. But not working at all in Jdeveloper's .jspx file. I have no idea what is the issue. Please help.
    Below is the code snippet. There is no way I can format the code snippet for more visual clarity in this editor. So I have to live with all minified code when it displays on the posting. Sorry :(.

    Don't have an answer for you, but you can put tags around your code so it's more readable... just use left-bracket code right-bracket and left-bracket code slash right-bracket around your code like this:

  • Video files work on computer but not on published site

    I am definitely missing something here.
    I redesigned my website with iWeb and I am very pleased with the results. (The original site was done with Dreamweaver but then I migrated to Mac.)
    I published it to my computer to check everything and then put it up on my server with a ftp program (filezilla. works for me). The page shows great on internet.
    I now want to add a page with a newly created video. I drag the video clip on to the movie page I created. It is an avi file. On my computer it all works fine but when I publish it (to my computer to be sure it is OK), the video clip does not show up on the new page. I have tried with Safari, Firefox and Chrome. Same story on all.
    I am afraid to upload it to the internet before I sort this out.
    So my two questions would be:
    1. What am I doing wrong?
    2. What file formats does iWeb support?
    thanks for any help.

    The Miro Video Convertor is useful for format conversion if you want to provide as many as possible to encourage html5 playback in most browsers.
    If you don't want to be bothered with all this, fallback players will use an MP4 (or MOV) in most situations and fallback to flash for browsers like IE. Examples are JW Longtail, FlowPlayer and VideoJS.
    This method uses the QuickTime plugin. The problem is that, in a lot of cases, browsers will ask permission to run the plugin and visitors shouldn't be made to jump through hoops to get the movie to play.
    Its worth the extra effort to make sure that as many of your website visitors as possible can just click and play.
    A lot of people resort to Vimeo and YouTube but the problem with them is that visitors are tempted to leave your site at the end of the movie. Vimeo is better than YouTube in this respect and also has more customizing options.

  • My .class files work...but when I jar it, the swing goes crazy!!

    5 dukes, if anyone can get this :) :) ....
    Hi, I have an application which is working perfectly when I view it using the java viewer. But when I put the whole thing into a jar.....the layout, and the swing stuff is messed up, terribly. Like Its foxused on nothing, and you have to click on where you think the button is...to make it appear, sooo strange. Here's what I have.
    I put 2 panels onto desktopPane() using a GridBagLayout layout.
    on panel 1, I have a whole bunch of g2d objects,
    on panel 2, I have a whole bunch of Components (JButton's, JTextField's, etc..), but panel2 isn't really the problem, since when I removed panel 1, the jar ran without problems.
    So It could be panel 1, or something in the main() class which sets up the panels, here is the appropriate code...
    Panel 1
    static class MyComponent extends JComponent {
              JScrollBar scroll;
              //          ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Graphics Stuff~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
              public void paintComponent(Graphics g){
              // a whole bunch of g2d things
              // ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Component Stuff~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
              MyComponent() {
                        setBackground(Color.pink);
                        setBounds(0,0,500,500);
                        setBorder(BorderFactory.createLineBorder(Color.pink,10));
                        scroll = new JScrollBar(JScrollBar.VERTICAL,0,20,0,100);
                        scroll.setBounds(484,0,16,500);
                        scroll.setVisible(true);
                        add(scroll);
                        System.out.println(scroll.isEnabled() + "" + scroll.isVisible() + scroll.getBounds());
                        setVisible(true);
    And the main code...
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              //This section converts to windows look
              try {
              UIManager.setLookAndFeel("com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsLookAndFeel");
              catch (Exception ex) {
              ex.printStackTrace();
              SwingUtilities.updateComponentTreeUI(frame);
              frame.pack();
              //~~~~
              componentPanel = new JPanel(); //initialize panel to place the component with buttons and stuff
              mc = new MyComponent(); // initialize the component with the g2d stuff
              mc.setSize(500,500);
              buttonComponent = new MySwingSwing(); // initialize the buttons and stuff
              componentPanel.setBorder(BorderFactory.createLineBorder(Color.GREEN));
              componentPanel.add(buttonComponent);
              JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane(mc);
              //~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Layout Stuff~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
              GridBagLayout grid = new GridBagLayout();
              constraints = new GridBagConstraints();
              frame.getContentPane().setLayout(grid);
              frame.getContentPane().setLayout(grid);
              constraints.weightx = constraints.weighty = 10.0;
              constraints.fill = 1;
              grid.setConstraints(componentPanel, constraints);
              grid.setConstraints(scrollPane, constraints);
              System.out.println("constraints are " + constraints.BOTH);
              scrollPane.setBackground(Color.green);
              frame.getContentPane().setBackground(Color.RED);
              buttonComponent.setBackground(Color.BLUE);
              frame.getContentPane().add(scrollPane);
              //frame.getContentPane().add(buttonComponent);
              frame.getContentPane().setVisible(true);
              scrollPane.setVisible(true);
              buttonComponent.setVisible(true);
              frame.getContentPane().requestFocus();
    I dont know what I did wrong, but If you can find it Ill give u 5 dukes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Here is how it looks when its run as a .class file,
    http://www.members.lycos.co.uk/markrules/morestuff/1.jpg
    And it is just completely distorted when its not...
    thanks, MArk

    Dude, throw GridBagLayout out! Go get TableLayout or FormLayout! Seriously. Unless you are restricted to use only JDK layouts, TableLayout has been a huge time saver and life saver for me. Google it, you'll thank me a million times over, and toss me them 5 dukes. ;)

  • G711 movie file work with QT6, but no audio with QT7

    G711 (PCM) QuickTime mov files played fine for us on QuickTime 6 and 6.5. But since we upgraded to QuickTime 7, the audio playback does not work anymore.
    You can download an example file from here:
    ftp://ftp.gatherworks.com/private/g711.mov (285K)
    When I downgrade to QT6.5 it works again.
    Is there anything wrong with these QuickTime movie files?

    Casper,
    Okay I want to sing the friendly ghost from the show when I see your name.
    I burn avi all the time in Toast 7.1.2 Toast and I usually convert them to divx to fit 10-11 hours of video on there, but I've done it with DVD video. A friend lent me a movie once with no sound and here is the problem that will work everytime. You need to download the VLC player to get it to work right. Here is the link: http://www.videolan.org/
    Didn't even know they had an intel one as I have the other version on my Powerbook and just transferred it to my intel one. Once it is downloaded you click on the orange striped cone and then you will see a little VLC box come up. The most effective way to view any file is to go to File up top and then scroll to open file (I've down the quick open file too and then you see a open box and a button that says browse next to it. Click the browse and find the movie or divx you want to watch and click open and then okay, then click the play arrow that is on your desktop and viola. You can go up top too and go to video and click full size screen etc.
    If this was helpful or solved your problem please click the helpful or solved button up top. If this doesn't work let me know too.
