Use question pool with multi-part questions?

Is it possible to use the question pool in Captivate 5 for a quiz with multi-part questions? I'd like to have a question selected from a pool, but after the learner answers the first part, they get a second question that is based on the first part.
They get a question: "Is this heart sound dangerous or safe?" Then, after answering that, they'd get the question "What is the diagnosis?" for the same sound. The first question comes from a specified pool, but the second question is based on the first question. Then, they'd go on to a new pool question.

I would use the XML function from Captivate 4.
- Make yourself a test quiz with two slides, one being a multiple choice.
- Export it to XML
- Open the XML File in Excel
Good point to start with is ns1:g and ns1:Source26.
Most likely you can get all your question into captivate that way.

Strange behaviour when using connection pooling with proxy authentication

I have developed an ASP.NET 1.1 Web application that uses ODP.NET 9.2.0.4 accessing Oracle Database 8i (which is to be upgraded to 10g in the coming months). I have enabled connection pooling and implemented proxy authentication.
I am observing a strange behaviour in the live environment. If two users (User 1 and User 2) are executing SQL statements at the same time (concurrent threads in IIS), the following is occurring:
* User 1 opens a new connection, executes a SELECT statement, and closes this connection. The audit log, which uses the USER function, shows User 1 executed this statement.
* User 2 opens the same connection (before it is released to the connection pool?), excutes an INSERT statement, and closes this connection. The audit log shows User 1, not User 2, executed this statement.
Is this a known issue when using connection pooling with proxy authentication? I appreciate your help.

Hi Chris,
I tried to reproduce your complaint, but was unable to. I didnt use auditting however, just a series of "select user from dual" with proxy authentication. You might want to see if you can put together a small complete testcase for this and open a sr with support.

Multi Part Question

Hi All
I am trying to set up a question, that will have multipe parts to the answer
Easiest way to explain it is to say:
there is an image where people count the items, so the image has 2 apples and 1 orange
the question layout is __ apples + __ oranges = __ pieces of fruit.
Now my problem here is I can use a fill in the blanks question type. But I cant format the text boxes produced and it looks, well not good.
I have tried using text entry boxes. These look better, albeit harder to set up the answer. In fact I cant work out how toset the answer up as correct. I can see how toi use the advanced actions, and set up a conditional action, making sure tb1 = 2 and tb2 = 1 and tb = 3 before doing something.
How do i mark the question as being correct using advanced actions ?

I rarely use question slides - having found so many issues in the past albeit on previous versions of Captivate
The way I convert custom interactions into a reported quiz result is just to use buttons with the REPORTING property set to
a) Include in Quiz
b) One point
c) Add to total
At the same time as you display the pseudo success or failure caption. you could use the advanced action described above to either enable a continue button which has reporting enabled or one that doesn't.
If the two buttons are identical the user is not aware that they are recording (or not) their score.

Is there a workaround for wsdl with multi-part porttype with ESB?

I am trying to implement a simple connection to a service with ESB, and have been successful in trials with several other products, but when I try to use the SOA adapter with ESB I get the following message.
"The selected porttype is using a message that is invalid for ESB because it is multi-part or has a simple type. The message getTransactionsByRegistrationIdRequest in operation getTransactionsByRegistrationIdRequest of prottype QueryTransactionsWebService is invalid. Please select another porttype of fix the wsdl."
Is there a work around for this?
We would like to use ESB since we are licensed, but continue to have problems.
Any help would be appreciated.

This works out of box in 11 but as a 10.1.3 workaround, You can write a java web service to proxy the multipart service and expose a regular doc literal service wsdl to ESB. This shouldn't be too much work for an experienced java/web service programmer. We are going to enable multipart for a pass through (no filters or xsl) service in 10.1.3.4. Let me know what path you choose.

Vendor implementations usually have a fair amount of optimization. For J2EE apps, my concern would be using your pool in transactional calls. When you make a transactional call across several beans/methods, the vendor's pool makes sure that you get the same connection each time you get a connection from the pool so that if you want to rollback the work (in case an error occurs), you can. Does your current connection pool support this?

Jumped into pool with iPhone5(part 2)

About 10 days ago I jumped into the pool with my IPhone5 in my pocket. The phone was dead when I removed it and put it in rice. It stayed there for about 55 hoursthen I removed it. I tried to turn on the phone but it was 95% dead. The screen brightened just a very littie bit every time I pressed the home button. I had given up hope but yesterday my wallpaper was visible, I pressed and held the button to see if it would say slide to turn off, and it did but then it went dark again. Now my wallpaper is visible 90% of the time. I put it back in rice. Any chance it works?
PS I live in Turkey bought the phone from NY

A multi part question...

I want to drag and drop only certain things from my aging Black MacBook to my new MacBook Pro. What are directory pathways to get my stored mail and iTunes from, and is the directory the same in both computers, i.e are the destinations in the newer MB the same as the locations WERE in the older? (The Black MB's OS was Snow Leopard, the Power Book is running Lion, if that's relevant.)
I used MigratedAssistant and Carbonite to transfer items to the newer laptop from two other 'books, the aforementioned Black MB, and my two-year old MB Air (also running Snow Leopard.) Is there a way to "merge" the multiple users that I have as a result?

IMO OS has nothing to do here with SQL server query execution and on disk storage for 64 bit and 32 bit is same so it hardly matters.But it can be said that Procedures might create different query plan when executed in 2012 which can be
good or bad.So specifically testing and tuning your proc after migration from 2005 to 2012 might be required.As a good practice and to be on safer side you should test.

As Alberto said once database is restored or attched to higher version its automatically upgraded but you shoudl change compatibility leve to 110 as well.

Using calling cards with the Iphone Question

Hi,
Just wanted to know if there is a way to add a calling card number passcode and than be able to dial the contact number. Previously I had the razr and nokia n8o and never had any issues, one way was to use the calling card number as a contact and than use touh tone to select a contact to call to send the number as tone and the other way was to add the whole number, calling card+ passcode+ contactno with pauses.
it seems i cant no niether with the iphone. is there any ideas or suggestions.

Using Vienna Ensemble with Logic 8 - Question

Greetings,
I have the Vienna special edition and have set up and instance of the VE. What I'd like to do is have a VE configured that can remain open and access it from whatever logic project I'm working on. In this way I could move from one cue to another loading the samples.
I don't seem to have it set up correctly. Whenever I close one project the VE closes with it.
Is anyone using the VE as I describe and if so would you be kind enough to help this dunderhead.

For me working with the VI is a mess really. The behaviour of the GUI is terrible it always slips behind the Arrange screen when you edit inside Logic and you have to go searching for your VI behind the Arrange to edit it. With several VIs it's even worse as they will clutter the whole screen. Also they don't don't open like normal Plugs but they have a sort of Pre-Plug In window which you have to open first to access the VI. But try it out for yourself, concerning RAM it's the same as the VE, working with a standalone gives you another 2,7 Gigs of accessable physical RAM though.
That's why I use VE 3 as an Instrument container that works great and is by far the best solution.

My solution was to use the connection pool defined in the weblogic.properties file, but the realm_proprties are read before the connection pool is created so it did'nt work.Is there anyway of controling the order of which WLS reads various properties?If no, is there any way of setting "autorefresh" on the connection defined in the .realm_properties file?I'am using WLS 5.1, S.P 8, WIN2000 and Sybase. It works fine except for the timeout.Please help-Marius

I've been struggling to find a way to use a weblogic connection
pool or datasource nicely, and have failed with whatever I've tried.
There is a chicken and egg problem here. The connection pool needs
security to initialize itself, and security needs a connection
pool. So that will not work.
I've tried the follwing, which almost worked. Weblogic falls
back to the default realm if your custom realm returns null for
any user or group requests. So if your custom realm is not capable
of reading info from the database, return null. The default realm
will take over, and allow the connection pool to initialize if
you allow everybody (or users defined in the weblogic.properties
file) access to the pool. Then define a datasource which points
to the pool.
After the server starts, security can then use JNDI to look up
the datasource, and all seems well. However, in some instances
(it seems like calls for a bean), where security and jndi can get
into infinite loops where jndi performs a security check when doing
the lookup, so they both end up asking each other for information.
So if anyone knows how to successfully use a connection pool or
DataSource in a custom realm, I would love to know how.
For you, I would suggest you don't try and use a connection pool,
but figure out how to refresh your connection. You can do it manually
by taking your connection, checking if it's valid before using
it, if not, then open a new one.

Using attribute uniqueness with multi-master replication?

I'm trying to use attribute uniqueness in a iDS 5.1 multi-master replication env. I have created a plug-in instance for the attribute (memberID) on each directory instance (same installation on NT) and tested (if I try to create a duplicate value under the same instance I get a constraint error as expected). However if I create a entry under one instance and then create a second entry (different DN) with the same attribute value on the second instance, the entry is written with no complaints? If I create the entries with an identical DN, then the directory automatically adds nsuniqueID to the RDN of the second entry to maintain DN uniqueness but it doesn't seem to mind about duplicate values within the entry despite the plug-in?
BTW I've tested MMR and it is working and I'm using a subtree to enforce uniqueness.

Attribute uniqueness plugin only ensure uniqueness on a single master before the entry is added. It doesn't check replicated operation since they have already been accepted and a positive result was returned to the client. So in a multiMastered environment, it is still possible to add 2 identical attributes, if like you're saying you're adding the entries at the same time on both master servers.
We're working on a solution to have Attribute Uniqueness working in a multiMastered environment. But we're worried about its impact on performances we may get with it.

Unable to open Online/Offline store - using Getting Started with Kapsel - Part 15

I am just following the exercise to create offline scenario. I was able to do READ, but when I tried to open the online store, I am keep getting the error ( screenshot attached).
I am using the standard code from excersie but wonering what's is wrong. I tried to increase the log level on SMP to DEBUG, but no entries are found in log related offline.

I just updated SMP SDK version to latest and looks like it is working. I still need to do more testing. I will let you know guys if I encounter any issues. Tune in please.

Assign points to quiz slides using Question Pools Manager

Is it possible to assign the points to be reported for a slide when using the Question Pools Manager?
If one slide, for example, has 10 points, and another slide has 5 points, when they are both added to a question pool, do their loose their original number of points and get assigned whatever number of points chosen when a random slide is added to the pool?

I just checked in Captivate 5 and it looks like the scoring is associated with the Question Pool slide, not the Question slide that gets randomly inserted.
If you're trying to achieve a result where the difficulty of the question matched the number of points awarded for getting it right, you might need to set up a number of question pools. E.g. one pool for easy questions, another for medium difficulty, and a third for really difficult ones. Assign 1 or 2 points as the default for the easy ones, maybe 5 for medium, and 10 points for hard ones.
This is what I do in fact.

Captivate 4 Question Pool Slides Show Ghosts

Random question slides display captions from previous slides
when I publish to Flash 8-10. Publishing to Flash 7 or using the
same questions (but not as random questions) cures the problem.
The captions appear on all but one random question slide (8
of 10 doesn't display the problem). The captions are from four
upstream slides each of which has different rollover captions. The
problematic question slides show all the rollover captions,
superimposed over the question.
The PC showing the problem is running Win XP SP3, Flash WIN
10,0,22,87. Other PC's at the same site do have the problem when
running the same published show.
I've tried recreating the question pool from the original
question slides, recreating the random question slides,
uninstalling and reinstalling Flash on the target PC with the same
results.
Any one else noticed this?
Any suggestions for a fix other than publishing in Flash 7?
