Use the hold switch while charging the battery?
Hi Everyone,
I recently replaced the battery in my iPod mini and am interested in learning tips to extend the life of my new battery. I was wondering if it makes a difference to the life of the battery if the hold button is on or off while being charged?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Several years ago I was told or read somewhere that charging an iPod with the hold button switched on helps to extend the overall life of the battery. I was just trying to find out if that is true or not. Based on what I have read about lithium batteries, it probably does not matter if the hold button is off or on while being charged as each battery has a limited number of charge cycles.
Thanks for your help.

My macbook pro 2011 yosemite 10.10.1, (2,3 GHz Intel Core i5 / 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 / Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB) recently started to present a problem that when using only the battery, it gets really slow, but connected to the charger, it operates normally. I have already taken to a technical assistance but was not presented any problem in the battery. And when I open activity monitor it shows that the kernel_task process uses almost 100% CPU and so is almost 0% idle, so it is almost impossible to use the computer (using the battery). Is there anything I can do to prevent this process using 100% CPU?
My recommendation for a SMC reset was initiated by your posts indication poor performance when under battery power. Often a SMC reset will correct bad battery behavior but apparently not in your case.
Look at this article and see if there are any possible hints for correction of the problem:

If not, the the best option will be an Apple store genius bar appointment.

Dual Monitors with MacBook Pro fails using the battery
Hi guys
I am sorry I am new with Apple and need a help from you guys. I have a MacBook Pro (retina) and connected two monitors to it, using Thunderbolt plugs.
It works fine when I close the lid and one monitor gets the Apple OS and the other I run Windows (VMWare). The problem starts when I remove the power
from it and run using the battery. Monitors got blank display and I have to plug the power back to the MAC, in order to get the OS back. I've tried any combination on the System Preferences/Display and Energy Saver. No go!
Any ideas?
Thank you!I had the same issue a few months ago when I tried connecting to external monitor, it is only possible to run external displays from a Macbook Pro while the power cable is attached, if you try and connect to external display without having the charger attached the external display will flash your desk top for a second and then your Macbook Pro will go to sleep. Hence connect your charger every time you wish to connect to external display, its not a problem with your Macbook Pro, it's just the way of Apple. Hope that helps.

How can I use the battery and let it be perfectly healthy?
Hello everybody!
I love this forum because everyone is a great helpful person.. .. However, I'd like to ask you couple things about the MacBook battery...
I know that now the battery has been improved, it leasts longer and it can support 1000 charging cycles.
(Right now I'm performing the battery calibration)
I'd like to know how can I use the battery and let it be perfectly healthy.
For instance,
1) If I connect the laptop to the MagSafe and let it charge, when should I remove the plug from the Mac and when should I put it in charge? I don't wanna continously waste cycles and let my battery die too soon (it's too young to die! :-D ) .. I use it mainly at home connected to the MagSafe: someone tell that even if you leave the MagSafe connected after the mac has been charged it stops charging (I can see this), and others say that is not a good thing to let the mac connected to the plug for a long time... with the old model I used to disconnect the battery from the mac so I didn't have these problems but with the new one it's a long procedure...
2) I usually use to calibrate the battery once a month... Is it a good thing?
Thanks!

Any tips for using the battery ? T500
Are there any tips to use the battery for a long time ?
I've seen the posts somewhere that "conditioning" is not needed for this battery, Li-on based ?
Is recharging when the battery is half-charged a bad habit ?
ThanksHello shong9,
First you should load your battery 36h, then unload it normally, till it will go to sleep or hibernate
(depends on setting in power manager).
Second load it 24, then unload it normally till it went to sleep or hibernate.
Third and last, load it 12h, then unload it normally till it went to sleep or hibernate.
Then you battery has got it´s full capacity and the powermanger will do all for you, to keep it healthy.
You should leave the battery in your machine, if using AC.
When you are working mobile, then charge it, when it´s necessary.
That´s it.

Using you macbook whilst on charge with battery disconnected?
does this work?
if so wouldnt it save battery life in theory because you're using the battery less if your giving it direct power from your socket to macbook via the charger
???I run it all the time without the battery. It does run at 1 Ghz for while, but it goes back up. I haven't figured out when or why, (maybe if you put it to sleep and wake it up?) but it definitely happens. And I very much doubt you'll notice a different in speed, unless you're encoding mp3s or somehting, or working in photoshop, or some other data-processing intensive task.
For instance, when browsing the web, the bottleneck is internet speed. When copying files, it's the harddrive, etc. etc. -

I have a Macbook Pro 13'' 2011 OS X 10.9.4, and recently it started giving this problem, which the macbook works well while connected to the charger, but when i use it only with the batery it gets really slow. But in the report system of the macbook says that the battery is operating normally. It has alreary 822 cycles.
Perform a SMC reset:

If there is no meaningful change, open System Information>Power and post the following from your MBP:
(Make certain that the charger is connected)

Is this a problem that can be easily fixed? I'm guessing it's a problem with the charger connector, possibly??
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. I washed my nano with my jeans in the washing machine. It still works when I use external power, but not on the battery. I've charaged it, but it doesn't hold the charge. Sugggestions?
The battery is dead, permanantly pretty much.
I had this happen to an old nano, 2nd gen or 3rd i forgot which it was.
Anyway i went in a lake with it, after that it would no longer work on the battery, but would with external power.
I spent a good while looking for a solution but couldn't find a fix or any suggestions other than replacing the ipod battery, or the ipod itself.
I did keep it though and just kept it on a ipod player speaker device though. Maybe now theres a trick to fix it or something but i highly doubt it. -
Right way of using the Battery
I have read these two links:
http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
http://www.apple.com/batteries/
I understand that this machine is meant for portability but I use it as a desktop replacement.
I just notice that when I plug in the power adapter while using some intensive processes, even when the battery is fully charged, the battery health dropped by 2% after like 6 hours of usage.
So should I pull out the battery and let the machine hook on to the power solely? If you remove the battery then it will drop to 50% CPU ... it's designed to draw power from BOTH the MagSafe supply and the battery under intensive conditions, that's quite normal.

My Macbook Pro shuts off within 5 minutes when just using the battery..why?
The problem started a while ago, but I never much payed attention to it because I kept the laptop on my desk and connected to the wall. But it started around a year and half ago, when I disconnect my computer from the power source, it might last a little over an hour, depending on what I am doing. Now, if I unplug it it may last 5 minutes if I am lucky. I heard something about a battery recall, or something to that tune, but have no idea. I am a novice when it comes to battery's or whatever. Please help all you can. This problem is very annoying, because as a college student, it is nice to be able to take your laptop with you to class and not worry about 5 minutes later it just dies. Ill be more than happy to answer questions about how I use the laptop, etc. I have also listed some information below to help. Thank you for your help.

Your battery is showing pretty low capacity considering the cycle count, have you been re-calibrating it every couple of months as you should ?
Reset the SMC (System Management Controller) and re-calibrate the Battery properly then see how it behaves. -
Can I use the battery from 4gb Zen Micro Photo in the 8gb Zen Micro Pho
Can I use the 3.7V Li-ion Polymer Battery 680mAh in my 8gb Zen Microphoto? The 8gb came with a 3.7V Lithium Ion Battery 830mAh.
rrochlis,
The mAh is a measure of a battery's total capacity. The higher the number (ex. 600 mAh, ,500 mAh) the more charge the battery can hold and usually, the longer a battery will last under a certain load. If you're going to use a lower mAh battery, you will get shorter playback time.
