Use two wrt54g in same network?

i have two wrt54g and i searched for info about this but couldnt find it. one of them is in my basement connected to my cable modem and i wanna put the other one up stair and i was wondering if the one i put upstairs can share the internet connection with the other and provide a better signal for me and possibly the ability to use the ehternet ports on that router.. if it is possible please let me know how!

1. If both routers are wired together, you can create a roaming wireless network. You have to setup one WRT54G as access point. Search in this forum how to setup a WRT as access point in a LAN. It is posted here several times a day.
2. If you want to connect both routers wireless: you cannot do this with standard Linksys firmware. One of devices must operate as wireless bridge or wireless repeater. With standard firmware only the Linksys WAPs (WAP54G) do that. Depending on the hardware version of the WRT you may be able to get a 3rd party firmware which adds these functions to a WRT54G. Search for WRT54G on wikipedia to find an article about the hardware versions, firmware projects and links where to download them. Remember though, that 3rd party firmware will most likely void your warranty. Also remember, that a wireless repeater or bridge will cut off a good piece of the wireless bandwidth you could have on a direct wireless connection to the main router.
3. Sometimes an alternative to a second access point in the network may be to buy one of the high-gain antennas.

  • Lost Connection to C&C Generals Zero Hour Online using the WRT54G v5 Wireless Network

I have this problem playing Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour online. I'm using the WRT54G v5 Wireless Network & when I'm in the game lobby, it kicks me off saying, "Lost connection to C&C Generals Zero Hour Online". This happens quite often variing on me entering & exiting rooms or other players entering & exiting rooms that I'm in. But it doesn't occur when I'm accually play a game with someone. It also does not happen at all when I'm connected directly to the internet connection so I know the network is causing it.
I've never had any problem with this game on any other wireless network types before. I've tried port forwarding with a static IP address, disabling firewalls,  upgrading firmware, etc... No good. I've done some google research & found that varios other people on other forum sites have the same problem, it also occurs on  another computer of mine.
Is there some kind of feature on this network that isn't on any others? One wireless network specificly that I've found that the game works on is the WRT54GS.
Any replies will be greatly appriecitated.

Maybe I would if I hadn't stopped playing the game 3.5 years ago. You may want to check the date on those previous message. But here's what I remember:
Turns out nothing worked the fix the problem. Not turning of a firewall, not port forwarding, not updating fireware, nothing. There must be a jitter on the routher that triggers the game into thinking it gets disconnected.
Many other users on the forums posted the same problem with this one router too & no one ever figured out a solution. Eventually that router broke & my family bought the WRT54GS2, which worked perfectly.

  • Search results different for two machines on same network with same version of Lync (2013)

When searching by Department in Lync 2013, one machine displays the individuals who are members of the department while the other machine just lists the group.  The same machine that displays just the group occasionally will not show contact information

This isn't an explanation for what's happening, there could be many things wrong.  But, it might be worth a shot to avoid the offline GAL search and go to an online web search only.  This may get you more consistent results.
To test, create a new policy and assign it to a couple of users like this:
    New-CsClientPolicy -Identity WebSearchClientPolicy -AddressBookAvailability WebSearchOnly
    Grant-CsClientPolicy -Identity UserA -PolicyName WebSearchClientPolicy
    Grant-CsClientPolicy -Identity UserB -PolicyName WebSearchClientPolicy
If that works, you could change your global and other client policies to use the same method.  There would be a bit more of a load on the server, so if you have thousands and thousands of users you may want to plan accordingly.

  • Looking for a chat app to use offline in the same network

    Hi
I want an offline app for my customers to download and use in our wireless network.
    This app shouldn't go online.
Simply customers device will choose a nickname.
With this nickname he/she will be chatting with people in same network.
Preferably it will be a simple chatroom for everyone.
There are so many chat apps. All talking to world. I want it just inside the hotel complex.
Probably there should be a server side of this app (guessing)
All your help is much appreciated.
You might just let me know a paid, chat server, customisable, running on both android or ios.
Probably a browser adress will be given to customers, than they log in and chat from there?

  • How do you get two computers on same network for mirgration.

I am trying to migrate from an older iMac G5 running the most updated version of TIGER to our new MacBook Air running LION.
The air doesn't have a firewire connection, so it's trying to do it over the wireless network.  I have them both on the same network, BUT the new Air is asking for me to update the Migration Assistant on the older machine.  Don't have any idea how to do that.
    Is there a work around?
    Can I use USB connections?

You need to install 10.5.8 on the PPC computer to work with Migration Assistant. It would be easier to clone the drive to an external hard drive. Then restore from the external hard drive using Migration Assistant.

  • Two Admins on same network?

Yes, that will work fine as long as you have two different serial numbers for them.

  • Excel 2013 bug printing when using two printers with same driver

    Hi,
Was advise by "Community" to post this one here.
    The environment:
    Window 7 Sp1 x64
    Office 2013 Sp1 32 bit
    Windows 2012 Server (current patches).
Two IDENTICAL network connected printers shared from above Windows 2012 server.
As the two printers are the same, they both use the same printer driver.
Printer A is set to Greyscale. This is the default printer.
Printer B is set to Full Colour.
Open Excel and start a blank worksheet.
Choose Print - this shows the default printer (Printer A) - then Printer Properties - this verifies that the Default Printer is set to Greyscale as expected.
Change printer within Excel to Printer B - then printer properties again - this shows us that printing is STILL in Greyscale ignoring the Printer B settings. Printing will indeed produce a greyscale print on Printer B.
The reverse is also true - if we set Printer B (Color) as the Default, then choose Printer A (Greyscale) inside Excel, it will then show (and print) in Full Color - ignoring the printer A setting of greyscale.
This ONLY occurs when connecting to Shared Printers on a Windows host (Server 2012 in this case).
Direct IP printing from Win 7 to the printer works as expected (printer settings honoured).
Non-Windows server based printer sharing works as expected (printer settings honoured).
This ONLY occurs in Excel. Other programs including other Office components do not exhibit this bizarre behaviour.
This ONLY occurs where the same driver is used by both printers.
In effect, Excel is transposing the Default printer's settings onto whatever printer is chosen if it uses the same driver.
Installing Office 2013 Service Pack 1 made no difference.
This appears to be a long running issue (search result show Excel 2007,2010* and Windows 2008R2 server references).
*Confirmed same behaviour with Windows XP and Excel 2010.
This appears to affect multiple brands of printer (Xerox, Konica Minolta). Confirmed with 3 different generation Konica Minolta (Postscript) copiers and Dell multifunction (with PCL drivers).
Does anyone have a solution for this ?
Is there a setting hidden in Excel that should be changed ?
Is there a server setting to "isolate" the two printers from each other ?
    Regards
    Ian

    KR,
Thanks for the reply but note I said "The reverse is also true - if we set Printer B (Color) as the Default, then choose Printer A (Greyscale) inside Excel, it will then show (and print) in Full Color - ignoring the printer A setting of greyscale."
Also, it is the printer properties that are being set. I believe the setting you refer to is per worksheet ?
    Cheers

  • Can you use FaceTime using two iPads with same apple id

Have two iPads for wife and I. Both use same apple ID account. Can you use FaceTime between them?

Heres what you do. got to settings>facetime>add an email and than add another email (note: cannot be the same email that you use on your apple ID) A verifaction email will be sent. Go to your email account and verify the email by clicking on the link. Now using the other ipad, make a facetime call to the email you just verified and you can now facetime between the two!
One more side note. Make sure that only the email you just verified has a check mark on it. The other ipad shoud have a check mark next to the orginal apple ID email.

  • How to use two members from same dimension in Dimension Layout, for HFR

I am developing a report using Hyperion Financial Reporting. I have taken two dimensions in rows and remaining dimensions in column. After completing one section, I need to make new section of the report on the same grid and page with just adding one more member of the second row dimension. That is data should be the summation of two members of the dimension, say "ACCOUNT".
Kindly guide me the steps. Also i would like you to know that i am begineer with Hyperion Financial Reporting.
    Thanks

Can you give some explanation of your gird layout and what you are trying to achieve?
Like Account and Scenario in row

  • Using two iPads on same iTunes acct

I just received a new iPad that I have set it up using iTunes by selecting backup so my new iPad has all the same apps and data as my old iPad. Can I continue to use my old iPad as before so in essence I would have two mirrored iPads? It appears when I plug each into iTunes it backs up and syncs each without complaining that they have different serial numbers. Any downside to doing this?

The only downside is if you want separate apps on each. And that is easily managed by turning off automatic downloads and/or deleting unwanted apps off the device you don't want them on.
iTunes is capable of maintianing separate devices on teh same account

  • Using ports of the same network interface

    Hi,
    I'm an Oracle DBA.
I will perform 2 installations of Oracle Management Agent on a Solaris server with the following config:
    SunOS 5.10
    Interface IP Address Hostname
    ce6 address0     hostname0
    ce6:1 address1     hostname1
    ce6:2 address2     hostname2
The first installation will be done on <hostname1>.
The second one will be done on <hostname2>.
Each agent will use a port that defaults to 3872.
Can I use the same port 3872 for both installations?
    Thanks and regards,
    Giuseppe Centioli

    Hi Darren.
    netstat -an | grep 1831
    <hostname1>.1831 <hostnameX>.1399 63980 0
    50400 0 ESTABLISHED
    *.1831 *.* 0 0
    49152 0 LISTEN
Okay, that's incorrect. You'll see that the process is listening on *.1831. In other words, it's listening on all network addresses. That was the specific point I was making earlier. It must not do that. The listener must bind only to the network address chosen.
When it's set up right, you should see a specific address on the LISTEN line, not a *.
The error is an Oracle related error telling
    that another LISTENER
has been started with port 1831.Yes, that's the case here. The listener is not binding to the correct address in your configuration. I am not an Oracle DBA, and I can't tell you what the correct syntax is.
Hmm. Okay, here's some stuff from google. Do you have a hostname specified in your listener.ora file?
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = hostname)(PORT = 1521))
    Like that?

  • Using two iPods on same computer

Our daughter has loaded her iPod onto our family computer and created an account. I now have my own iPod for which i want my own library, which will include photo's. How can I use my iPod and sync to my library without syncing to my daughter's.
I also need to download the library on my iPod onto my own library. I somehow had a library but it has been wiped clean due to a restore. Is there a way of reverse backing up from my iPod to my computer.

See this Apple KnowledgeBase article; it should help:
How to use multiple iPods with one computer
Is there a way of reverse backing up from my iPod to my computer.
Transferring tracks from an iPod back to iTunes has been covered here a number of times already, but again:
First, you need to prevent automatic synchronzation with a blank copy of iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer, hold down the Shift and Ctrl keys in Windows. This should stop the iPod from auto synching with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 25 seconds depending on your computer.
Then if you're using iTunes 7, you can then copy music that you purchased from the iTunes Store back to iTunes directly (use the Transfer Purchases From iPod command under the iTunes File menu).
If you're not using iTunes 7 or want to copy back other tracks, the easiest way will be to search VersionTracker for "iPod". You'll find a number of utilities that can transfer your tracks and your playlists from your iPod back to your PC.
It's also possible to do this manually, but the procedure is rather involved. If you're interested, though, see this thread:
    MacMuse: Computer crashed
    Hope this helps.
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums, in the User Tips Library and in the Apple Knowledge Base before you post a question.

  • Using two iPods on same PC

I just bought my daughter a 5th gen Nano. We share a family computer. How do I create her own library on our computer? iTunes has already associated my library with her Nano. She has her own iTunes login - there must be same way to keep our accounts separate...?

    Hello there,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are several ways of managing multiple iPods with one computer including the option to take an entirely new iTunes library just for your daughter. For more help and information regarding these methods, I would check out this Apple support document.
