Use your mac as the display and keyboard for pc

(i dont know where to exactly put this) Ok I found this pc in the trash and I have a power cord for it and it runs. The thing is can I use my ibook to use a program to have a window display of it and use the keyboard on my ibook to use it? I want to use it for things that I cannot use for my mac. Trust me I love apple computers but I need a pc for some random stuff. Thanks
I can install virtual pc if I need to...

Many Windows computers (the hardware, not necessarily Windows) require a PS2 keyboard be attached before booting. This is an option that can be disabled on some machines in the BIOS so that you can boot the machine headless (without monitor, keyboard and mouse). Try connecting a PS2 keyboard, mouse and monitor to get your initial setup working.
Then, if you're able to install Windows XP Professional on the system you can enable Remote Desktop and use the free Remote Desktop Connection client from Microsoft <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/otherproducts/otherproducts.aspx?pid=remotedeskto pclient> to allow you to use the PC headless from your Mac.
Hope this helps! bill

  • How do I use my iPad as the display and input device for my Mac Mini?

I plan to have the following stereo configuration:
Integrated amplifier with USB input that supports up to 24/192 audio, the Peachtree Nova 125
Mac Mini with USB connection to amp, wifi to the Internet, housed in the equipment cabinet with the integrated amp, no other music source.  No display or keyboard connected to the Mac Mini.
I would like to use my iPad as the display and to control the Mac Mini to run Pandora, iTunes, Spotify, podcasts, etc.
Anyone have success with this general configuration?

You need a set of apps (one for iPad and another for computer) like Team viewer or Go to my PC

  • Using Macbook Pro as display and keyboard for a PC

I have a macbook pro, but I want to build a high end gaming pc eventually, but not only would i have to build the CPU, but I would also have to acquire a monitor and keyboard and all that jazz. It really cranks up a hefty price tag.
Then the thought occurred to me, that I already have a monitor and keyboard on my macbook. Wouldn't it be great if I could use my macbook in those capacities for the PC, basically reversing the flow of information from the miniDV port and the USB ports.
I highly doubt it's possible but I thought I would put the idea out there and maybe something would come of it in the future.

If you are setting up a server you can use Server Admin tools to set up a new server remotely. You would need to install the Server Admin tools on your MacBook Pro and then do the remote install procedure.
You need to collect the serial number and the Mac Address of the Mac Mini Server to enter in as the information in the Remote Install during the installation process you will be prompted to chose Remote Management and SSH for options that way you will be able to connect to the Server Remotely at anytime when configuring or afterwards.

I just wanted to bring to your attention that the BBC is conducting a survey about the future of online program content and unless we let them know there is a possiblity that Mac users will be excluded from this future service.
If you want to tell the BBC what you think please follow the link (and click on the questions tab) and fill in the online questionaire: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctrust/consult/open-consultations/ondemand_services.html

    No problem guys.
Thanks for taking the time to fill it in.

This really needs spreading through the Mac
community- it is important, otherwise the BBC might
sideline Mac users in favour of Microsoft products!
Surely it's also important that Apple are pro-active in these matters too ?
Surely the BBC would appreciate help from Apple in resolving their problem.
At the moment the have the major share of the music download market. However there are rumblings in Europe - both with the EEC and with individual countries - concerning their DRM mechanism and the fact that it is not available to others, which is aledged to be restrictive.
If Apple were to license the DRM system to others then it might lose a percentage of it's market share in both sales [as ipod users would be easily able to purchase product from other vendors] and hardware [as some customers might buy other mp3/mpeg4 players] however it would also be able to increase sales buy adding those who already have other hardware systems to it's potential customer base. It would also silence the critics, avoid possible litigation and sanctions and publicize the company further as, even if the DRM licensing was done free or at cost, the sytem would surely need to be credited by the end user for the consumer to see thus raising the company profile further.
Failure to do this could result in a missed opportunity as corporations [like the BBC] put their business with the majority platform.
This could potentially be the biggest opportunity for Apple since 1986 and it is vital that they capitalize on it.

  • Does handoff work if you are using your mac as a hotspot (via ethernet) for your iPhone?

I have an iPhone 6 running the latest iOS and a MacBook Air 2012 with Yosemite. Once I head back to school, its back to using an ethernet connection for my Air (with an adapter of course) and using this ethernet connection as a hotspot for my phone. Now, I have to keep doing this, since the WiFi is so bad where I live, but I was wondering if Continuity features will still work in this situation? To be clear, the Mac is connected to the internet via an ethernet cable, and the phone is connected to the internet via the WiFi hotspot that my Mac creates. It says on the Handoff feature page that both devices have to be connected to the same Wifi network in order for the feature to work, and I am unsure if this situation satisfies this requirement.

Apple only guarantees full features with 10.8 and later:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5436
I've been using 10.7 without problems so far, but I have not done that much with it.

  • Display and keyboard freezing

Recently, the display and keyboard on my PowerBook seems to freeze. The mouse stops working and so does the keyboard and the only remedy is to shut the computer down manually. Sometimes this happens as much as 5 times a day. I'm worried that there is a more serious problem looming. Is there a diagnostic I could run? Or is my PowerBook about to die? Thanks!

I suggest you first to reset PRAM and NVRAM and PMU. Then run ASAP Apple Hardware test because I got this problem 6 months ago and my mother board needs to be changed
    Reseting PRAM & NVRAM: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
    Reset PMU: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
    Run Apple Hardware test:
    1) insert your macosx DVD
    2) reboot whilep ressing ALT key
    3) when icons appears on the screen click on Apple Hardware test and run extended tests
Occsinaly you may look at you console log in utility folder

  • Where are the mouse and keyboard settings stored

I reinstalled the OS, and cleared the PRAM and NVRAM. The Mac still recognises the Apple bluetooth mouse and keyboard. How do I reset them?
    thanks

    Hi alienvoord-
Some of the settings are stored in NVRAM.
Have you tried pulling the batteries out of the mouse and keyboard for a few minutes and see if that does it?
Are you trying to un-pair devices? Why not just delete them in the BlueTooth preferences?

  • Display and keyboard brightness problems.

Hi all, I'm having some rather annoying problems with my display and keyboard brightness on my MacBook Pro (Mid 2008). Both the display and keyboard pulse between as dim as they can get without going black and as bright as they can get at least once a day and eventually settle at the brightest possible setting. I cannot lower the brightness level once this has settled without the pulsing starting over again. I currently have the auto adjust brightness on for both, because whenever I try to turn it off to try and stop any adjustments other than manual the pulsing gets exponentially worse. We're talking full-blown spastic fit (faster and much longer lasting dim to bright pulsing as well as flickering of the display). Any help here would be greatly appreciated, because I'm out of ideas at this point. Thanks

Ok, so after giving the backlights a thorough test last night and this morning, they are still squirrely. After resetting the SMC the pulsing is definitely not as bad and the flickering seems to have stopped, but the pulsing is still there and still far worse when the auto-adjust is turned off. Maybe I'll just have to deal with it. It is much better than it was and at least it's settling to the dimmest point rather than the brightest point now.

  • I need help with boot camp. "Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."

This message appears every time I try to partition my disk:
"Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."
I verified my Macintosh HD disk on Disk utility and then tried to repair it, but I am unable to click the repair button.
It says it's not available because the startup disk is selected.
I don't know what to do or how to go about both these problems.
    Please, any suggestions?

  • How do you install mountain lion on all your macs in the household using one 20 dollar license?

how do you install mountain lion on all your macs in the houshold with the same license (you only pay 20 bucks for all your macs) is that right?

As long as they're all logged into the Mac App store with the same Apple ID, you can re-download the installer to all the Macs.
Or you can save a copy of the installer file before you run it and use that to update the other Macs. The ML installer file will appear in your Applications folder when it's done downloading. Copy it to another location (don't move it).
If you don't copy it before you upgrade, it will disappear when ML is finished installing.
