Used HP Recovery Manager.

used HP Recovery Manager to back up all my data files before a full System Recovery and now I can't restore the backed up files.

Please provide more info about the issue. Do you get any error, does the back up stall or any other issue?

  • Trying to ... Restore files from MINWINPC folder using HP Recovery Manager

Please help me ... I follow all the steps (pasted below) to restore my PERSONAL files from the MINWINPC folder copied to my desktop computer (new hard drive) from an external hard drive, however it then asks me to insert disc # 171338041 !!! I don't know what disc this is or what it wants!!!! it is very frustrating. Consequently it does nothing other than ask for this disc! even after 2 hours of allowing it to scan for the files  ! Reading various information sites/forums it would seem that it is asking me to insert the last disc of the series, however the backup files were all placed onto an external USB drive. and the files are in the MINWINPC folder. It appears to me that the HP Recovery Manager is not reading from the correct place! The files were backed up from my HP compaq which originally ran Widows Vista and was later ugraded to Window 7. The MINWINPC folder contains 2 files namely : Backup.1.exe and Backup.2.fbw I should be grateful for any help... Please ---- Instructions: Restoring backup files using HP Recovery ManagerTo restore backup files that you created using HP Recovery Manager, follow the steps below.Open the USB device to which you wrote your backup file, such as your USB flash drive, and then copy the MINWINPC folder to a convenient location on your computer, such as your desktop.Locate and open the MINWINPC folder on your computer, and then double-click the executable file (.exe) that was created during the backup process.note:There may be more than one file, but only one will be an application (.exe) file. , Hello and thanks for posting on the HP support forums.  There is a way of doing a back up using a USB device but it has to be less than 32 GB.  If the data is any more than that then it will become corrupted. As well the back up came from a Vista system and the backup will be looking to load back onto the same OS.  By going to Windows 7 it will not find what it is looking for. You would have had to use another back up software for your data that could handle the amount and normally the best way is to plug in a USB hard drive and just drag and drop your files over. At this point you will not be able to recover your data the way you are trying. I hope this helps. Thanks again for posting and have a great day.

  • Which software can i use for recovery management that will allow me to use DVD's instead of Flashdsk

which software can i use for recovery management that will allow me to use DVD's instead of Flashdisk? I find DVD's easier to use. i am using windows 10

As the other posters wrote in order to take a movie file and turn it into a DVD that can be played in standard DVD players you need a DVD authoring application. That you need a separate program to create the DVD is standard procedure and has been that way since the beginning. All Apple produce that can produce video files require an external authoring program. iMovie, iPhoto and Final Cut all do this.
One other thing I will comment on is your choice of output format. You will almost certainly be disappointed with the video quality of your finished DVD if you put a HD video on a SD DVD. Unless you plan to burn a bluray disk you will get a better quality video if you output as SD if you plan to burn to an SD disk.

  • Hard drive not booting after use of Recovery Manager on USB

The hard drive on my newphew's  HP G62t-350 CTO Notebook was failing. I was able to create a recovery USB in the Recovery Manager. I installed a new 120 GB SSD. The original hard drive was larger, can't remember now but 250 or 500 GB. I know the Recovering the System after the Hard Drive is Replaced (Windows 7) says "To avoid problems, install a hard drive as large or larger than the replaced hard drive," but that's a question for later.
Computer booted fine from USB (in fact, is set to boot from USB if present by default). Recovery Manager starts. I choose minimal install. It goes through the process of partitioning the SSD and copying files. Then says to remove external media and reboot, computer will reboot several times during the process, blah, blah, blah. I pull out the USB and reboot, but after POST I get "No bootable media present".
If I try to reboot leaving the USB in, it boots to USB and we're back at the beginning. I am able to confirm with a rescue disk that the SSD has one NTFS partition that has had Windows files copied to it, and a large amount of unallocated space. (Something like 60%/40%.)
    So:
How do I make the hard drive bootable, and if it were bootable, would the recovery process complete?
What's going on with the partitions? Is it creating the recovery partition first, and then after boot the recovery partition installs the OS? If so, I might have to abandon this process because since I'm moving to smaller storage, I don't want to devote half of the drive to a recovery partition.
Would official recovery media help? A tech told me that it would, but was not able to explain to my satisfaction why the USB I created with Recovery Manager didn't work, so I am suspicious about the claim that media created by HP as opposed to media created by me using HP's own software would be any better, and since the computer is out of warranty I don't feel like spending $30+ to find out.
    This question was solved.

Most persons that have installed an SSD that was smaller than the factory drive have been unable to use any HP Recovery Media with the SSD.
As an alternative, if you can still read the 25-digit Windows product key on the Microsoft COA affixed to the bottom the computer, you can install Windows 7 Home using this key. Please see "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" for instructions on how to download Windows 7, create the installation media, and install Windows 7 using the 25 digit product key from the Microsoft COA on your computer. Please note that this installation will not have any of the HP customizations or HP value-added that was original installed on your computer. Also note that you will need to download and install most of the drivers from the HP G62t-350 CTO Notebook PC Drivers page.
Links to Windows 7 SP1 can be found HERE and HERE.
Direct link to the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool. Use this tool to create a bootable DVD or USB Flash Drive from the Windows .ISO

  • Replaced hard drive and used Recovery Manager via USB but now I don't have a D:recovery partition.

I replaced my bad hard drive on my G62 Notebook and used HP Recovery Manager on a USB stick. Afterwords I restored from a back up but couldn't restore the D:recovery portion because the new hard drive doesn't have this partition. How can I create this now and restore the recovery partion now?

    Hi,
When you reinstall the operating system using the USB recovery stick, it should create by default a recovery partation Drive D. Since you wont be able to create the partation manually. So if the HDD which you had replaced is not matching with the exact HDD which was shipped in the system, then it would have caused the issue. So try reinstalling the OS again.

  • HP Pavilion g6-2101tu Notebook PC ,After BOIS update, Is HP Recovery Manager option available?

    Hi,
I have recently installed BIOS and other drivers update through HP support assistent for the first time. During the installation a drive partition has been created with the name "HP_TOOL drive:f ".
I need your guidance for the recovery of system in the future and want to know about such partition which has been created automatically during update.
Eariler i have once recovered my system using tool which was provided by HP RECOVERY MANAGER through "esc + f11" keys. Hp recommands that we should not make any partition of drive in order to recover your system. if we make partition, we may lose system recovery through HP RECOVERY MANAGER.
I had 2 partition (Drive :c and Drive :d)of the drive by default from the begining when i have purchase my notebook but Now I have 3 (Drive: c,d,f).
Drive; c has system file while Drive: d has recovery and Drive: f contains HP_tool files.
"Please note thatI have not manually created any aprtition of drive till now."
    My problems are as follows--
    1. Is drive: f is a real partition of drive ?
    2. Can i able to recover my system using my BIOS setting i.e esc + f11 key through HP RECOVERY MANAGER?
    3. If i recover my system using HP RECOVERY MANAGER in future, i will have to download BIOS and drivers update again or what?
4:  suggest me what should i do after BIOS update and with Drive:f to recover my system in the future?

Yes, before Windows logo. At the first screen after powering on the machine tap Esc to bring up the Menu- same screen where you use Esc + F11 for Recovery.

  • Problem with HP Recovery Manager

    Hi,
I have a new Windows 8 HP laptop and I am trying to create the recovery disks.  After being frustrated to find out that the USB drive that I have won't work (it is Windows 8 compatible), I went with optical drive.  The program recognizes the drive and says that I need 6 disks, but it stalls when I put the disk in.  I get a message saying, "The insterted media is not supported!!"  I am using the recommended DVD+R, which my drive can read, and this is the same media that I used to create recovery disks for my old Windows 7 machine.  I just want the recovery disks, why is this so difficult?
    Ian Brown

Not much help, as we are in the same boat.
I backed up all our files to DVDs, and trying to get them off now is a real headache.
I have spoken to customer support - on the phone and online - and they both tell me I need to take it to a local back up business and get them to recover them as "we do not support on how to recover files from the backup. You need to contact any local backup centre for the same."
I was then told "Once the files are backed up, you could copy back the files from the destination to the required location." - but since they are formatted by using the recovery manager - this also doesn't work.
Just now 'However, there is no option on how to recover the backup files in Windows 7.'
    So basically... Im/we're screwed!

  • Recovery Manager & downloading recovery manager problems 2014 version

    Hi,
Firstly, I would like to say that I am sincerely greatful to Mumbodog for helping me with this problem.
    Problem:
Recently bought an HP 250 G2 which had Windows 8 Home. I required Windows 8 Pro and used my upgrade disk to install. This inadvertantly wiped all other software including the HP Recovery Manager. It also made the laptop pretty much useless because all the hardware peripheral software was removed as well. If you have done this then you cannot use the recovery or pc reset tools available in Windows 8. This was extremely frustrating because there was a recovery partition available with all the software on it to restore my laptop to its original condition.
I tried everything suggested but many of the technicians simply did not understand what the problem was. Some even suggested using the recovery manager when individuals had specifically stated that the Recovery manager was unavailable to them or suggested links which then described a process that used the Recover manager.
I finally stumbled on this post and it worked. The HP recovery manager hides in F11 on boot. Please read Mumbodog post that follows:

The full recovery manager program is not available for download, the only way I know to get it back is to use HP Recovery from the hard drive (F11 at boot time) or Recovery media to re-install Windows and all the HP software. You will lose all personal data when you do this so back up before restoring.

    Hi,
If you have created your USB Recovery, use this to perform the reinstallation.
If you don't have this, you can order a replacement Recovery USB Kit using the link below and use this to reinstall Windows.

If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP - make sure to specify that you require the USB Recovery Kit.

  • NOT SHOWING FACTORY INSTALLED SOFTWARES IN " RECOVERY MANAGER "

I'VE TRIED TO REINSTALL SOME SOFTWARE PROGMS BY USING  " RECOVERY MANAGER ".
BUT I DIDNT FIND ANY FACTORY INSTALLED SOFTWARE PROGRAMS.
    PLZ ASSIST ME.
I WILL BE WAITING FOR UR KIND REPLY.
    THANK U SO MUCH.

That is odd - that is, as long as the integrity of the Recovery Manager is intact, I would expect it to work.
    For example,
If you have reinstalled the system using other than the Recovery Manager,
or if you have upgraded the Operating System,
or added / Removed data from the Recovery Partition,
OR if the Recovery Manager is corrupted in some way,
    then
the Recovery Manager will either not work at all, or may at least show inconsistancies.

You might try using a Restore Point to "go back in time" and see if the setting can recover.
Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8)
HP PCs - Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 8)
You can go to your system's website for the current Drivers and Software that are available for your computer.
First, create a place to which you can return in case things do not work as you hope:
    Create a restore point
Install Software and Drivers from HP Website
Go to the top of the HP forum page to Support and Drivers
If prompted, Enter your Country or Region and
    Enter your Computer Model information,
    Go to Software and Drivers...
Enter your Operating System in the Drop-down menu...  Scroll down
Select desired Category Software – Solutions >> Driver - Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices
NOTE:  Download ONLY the relevant drivers and software for YOUR hardware - note that in the website you might find more than one kind of driver for more than one model of computer -- this is normal, but it does not mean YOUR computer uses all the software offered.
Expand and decide if you need to install that package.
Assure that you download and install only the most recent versions of each driver or program.
Save the appropriate *.exe installation package on your computer
NOTE the name and the location - the *.exe file will likely save to "Downloads “
Install the Software / Driver installation package:  If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package(s) and “double-click” to install, else Right-Click, Select ‘run as Administrator’ and install.
NOTE:  There is sometimes a lot of information at the computer’s website.  Take a look at what’s available and bookmark the page for later reference.

    Kind Regards,

  • HP Recovery Manager Back Up Disc Problem

I backed up my HP Pavillion P-6240F computer files using HP Recovery Manager to create  backup discs. I am using Window 8.1  operating system. When I tried to restore this data, I used the .exe file to start the process. During the 3rd disc the process failed. I tried this again and the  process failed again during the 3rd backup disc. I was able to locate a partial backup of my files. Is there any other way to read these files  with .mim extention? Any suggestions on what might be causing this problem. Can I skip the third disc and go on to the 4th backup disc? Thanks in advance. WolfpackRon

There is not much you can do.  Did you use this to restore your backup files:

  • Copying Recovery Media (Herstelmedia) created with HP recovery manager

I've lately created 'Recovery Media' using HP recovery manager. The back-up is stored on a USB, but I want to copy the back-up to another USB in order to use the first USB again. Is it possible to easily move the back-up from an USB to another? Thanks!

    Hi @CasparQ ,
    Thank you for your query.
As you are allowed to only create one set of  recovery material, I do not think that you will be able to copy to another USB stick.
To verify this I suggest contacting HP support for confirmation.

  • Reinstalling files backed up with Recovery Manager

I have a Pavillion M9000, system KC880AA running Windows Vista Home Premium.  I had to do a full restore to factory settings after a failed attempt to update Vista to SP 1 (son's computer, never updated after a failed up date attempt in 2008 or 09.)  I backed up their pictures using the Recovery Manager.  It created 4 CDs.  After they were burned, the system finished going through the recovery process as usual and now the computer boots up normally.  I want to restore the files to the computer and cannot figure out how.  I re-booted and hit F11 until the Recovery Manager opened, then selected "back up files", selected the types of files, and the computer started building another list of graphics files from the hard drive.  I did not see any option to restore the files from CD.  I opened the CDs and did not see any files at all, but the CDs appear full, when I clicked on the "Properties" tab in the My Computer window.  What am I missing?  How can I get the files onto the computer?  I understand they would be placed in a separate folder and I will have to sort them out, but that's not a problem.

Thank you for your reply.  I used HP Recovery Manager to make the back up files.  Backup and Restore wizard does not recognize that a backup was done since it was not done with the, wait for it, Backup and Restore wizard. My question was more about how to find the .exe file that was supposed to be made to restore the recovered files.  As I said, I have 4 CDs full of something but I cannot see anything and Recovery Manager isn't being very helpful as far as I can tell.  It wants to go through and recover files from my re-built Vista installation.
In any event, I used a free utility to recover most of the files, so I no longer need any assistance with this problem.
    Thanks again!

  • Recovery Manager is failing to read backup files from disc

    Product Name:
    HP G56-129WM
    Operating System:
    Windows 7
I used the HP Recovery Manager (F11) to backup my files instead of using the Windows backup. The HP Recovery Manager back uped my files on 2 dvd discs. I then restored my laptop to factory settings. When I go to restore my files, it will only go to 40% and then ask me to insert backup DISC 2. When I insert the disc, it fails to read it. The disc pops out and I keep getting a request to insert DISC 2. What is going on?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I have a related but different issue with file back-up using HP recovery manager.
I have a Pavilion g7-1070us laptop that failed to start and simply displays a blue-screen with a blinking cursor (no error message). I could NOT get into safe-mode by hitting F8, but was able to activate the “HP recovery manager” by hitting F11. I was trying to back-up my files before triggering the system restore. It asked me what types of files to back-up, then scanned the computer for these files and was finalizing the files for back-up; then suddenly an error message showed up saying something like "No storage device detected. Make sure the removable disc drive is connected to computer". But I have both a DVD sitting in the optical drive and a USB drive attached!!!!!! Apparently the recovery manager doesn’t see them?
Can someone throw me a life-saver here? If I cannot recover my files, I cannot proceed with the system restore and I am forever stuck here!!!!!!
    Please help!!!! Much appreciated!!
