Used Ipod Classic issue...

Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone could help me out here...
I purchased a used Ipod classic yesterday from a pawn shop (first time I have ever done this).
Ipod seems to be working fine when listening to headphones with the music(as undesireable as it may be) already on there.
Now, when I try to connect to my pc and try to add/delete music to it I keep getting an error that reads "Attempting to copy to the disk -69 error occurred".
There is plenty of space available (13.3GB) on the ipod, I have I tunes set to manage music manually(not syncing)
I purchased this ipod for my teenage daughter as a quick fix because her other ipod is full and she does not want to delete any music off of it because she says she listens to all of it.
i would appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks.

I wasn't ever concerned about physical harm to myself, but I can assure you I did indeed FEEL the shocks. They were jarring and too substantive to continue working out under the conditions. I was also concerned about short-circuiting the iPod, but it sounds like that shouldn't be an issue, correct?
Ears are sensitive... you're really going to feel AND hear a static shock!
Electronic components are very sensitive to static charges and I can't speak to Apple's design. But, +in my opinion+, a static charge would pass through the protective shielding of the metal case back and not harm the electronics inside.

Regarding "rubbing the device on your polyester shirt while exercising & listening to music" the device rested in a cubby near the control panel of the treadmill. I'm far from an expert in the realm of static electricity, but I have to assume the entire treadmill builds a charge while in motion. I just didn't expect the charge to be released into my ears!
Yes. The sliding rubber belt of the treadmill is the source of the build-up of charge in your body. The iPod is resting elsewhere putting it at a different "potential" than your body. The *difference in potential* (a.k.a. voltage) meets inside your ear between your skin and the earbud whenever the charge builds up to a level great enough to break-down the resistance of the air gap.

Again, I'll play around with some variables and hopefully build this thread into something worthwhile for anyone else experiencing similar problems.
Try wearing, or better yet, holding your iPod... it should keep it at an equal potential to your body thereby eliminating the discharge through your ears.
NOTES: Voltage is also referred to as "Potential Difference"

  • Used ipod classic won't download music?

I bought a used ipod classic and whenever i try to download a song i bought on my touch to my classic it won't.

How are you trying to put the song onto the Classic?
You cannot transfer it directly from the Touch to the Classic
You cannot download anything from the iTunes Store directly onto the Classic.
You put songs onto the Classic via the iTunes programme on your computer.

  • Restoring a used Ipod Classic 80gb I bought

    Hello,
I bought a used Ipod Classic 80gb after my Ipod 30gb 5th generation was stolen.
In order to use this "new" ipod I had to download a newer Itunes version and do some changes. This Ipod I bought (that's 100% authentic) needs to be restored to a windows formatted version, when I hit RESTORE. It says it has to download something and afterwards it says the connection time expired and that I need to check my network properties. They seem to be working ok!!!!!.....at least the Ipod is being recognized by the computer at last but HOW CAN I RESTORE IT!?!?! WHAT IS HAPPENING!!??!?
    PLEASE HELP!!!!

*Hay man That same problem happened to me when I wanted to update to 1.1.2. I kept trying but download doesn't complete. I went to a friend's house with a higher bandwidth and installed the iTunse and it worked fine. Maybe it was just my connection or something else. Try it. It might help. ;)*

  • Multiple 160 GB iPod Classic issues

Last August, I purchased a 160GB iPod Classic. For the first several months, it worked just fine. I hooked it up with the audio cable and it would play in my Hyundai Tucson. One day in the Spring, the volume stopped working in the vehicle. I tried other cables and reset the device several times. It started to work again. About a week later, nothing. It wouldn't even have sound when hooked up to headphones.
I took it the Apple store and we tried it out in a vehicle of one of the associates, it worked. Took it home, down again. Had it replaced. Tried it all different wasy, bought a new audio cable for the car, headphones, etc. NOTHING. Had it replaced last Saturday for the second time. Used it everywhere but the car and it worked. Yesterday, I put headphones on and it crash. (Did not try in car yet).
My questions are these: I have a 30GB Classic that has the same library on it. Could there be something wrong with the library? Corrupt? Could the vehicle need a certain something installed? My dealership knows nothing. I've searched online forums for the issue (thinking maybe it was the car). But this one didn't even go in the car and it crashed after a full charged and library sync.
In case it matters, I have a MacBook Pro 13inch using the most updated iTunes and software.
    If anyone can help-Thank you!

Also, I am using my older 30GB iPod classic and it works fine with all outlets, headphones, vehicle, etc.

  • IPod classic issues with iTunes 9 just may be disk problems in ipod

I have done extensive testing for several days now on this iTunes 9 issue with iPod Classics. I used 3 different computers, 1 Macbook Pro, Windows 7 and XP with iTunes 8. I had 2 - ipod classic 80GB and 2 - ipod 5th Generation 30GB units people gave me to look at.
It would take too much typing to describe all the restores, syncs, formats, copies I did over the past few days.
Bottom line: Using PC utilities I began to believe the iPod hard drives had bad sectors. I trusted the disk testing because I got different results from different ipods. The problems I experienced and what I have read here are consistent with what you would expect from disk problems and S.M.A.R.T. technology on the drives.
If bad sectors on a drive are dealt with by S.M.A.R.T. I would expect delays in accessing those sectors to occur.. resulting in delays to restore, delays to sync, delays to even skip songs on the ipod itself.
What may be the case is switching to iTunes 9, discovers when it trys to use the bad sectors. Maybe iTunes 9 is more timing temperamental. I have iPods that pass all disk tests that work fine with iTunes 9 on mac and PC. The other 2 ipods reporting bad sectors on a disk test, can restore, but syncing 3000+ songs is nearly impossible. Sync delays were consistent with where I would expect bad sectors to exist in the process. Delays I noticed just copying a folder to the ipod in disk mode were consistent with the delays that occur syncing in iTunes.

    It is a possibility...
I will state though that in my opinion the main problem is that itunes 9 is far less fault tolerant than prior versions and is far more likely to preemptively send an ipod into recovery mode when running into a problem when a ipod is plugged in.
I'd had a couple of incidents in prior versions of itunes when it flashed an alert message that it was having trouble accessing the ipod. Usually unplugging and reconnecting the ipod resolved the issue. Unfortunately this system of handling the issue does not work at all with itunes 9. What happens is that the next time you plug in the ipod it is preemptively sent into recovery mode.
I've had my ipod sent into recovery mode 7-8 times since I Installed Itunes 9. The last 5 of those in the last week. I've already done the reinstall itunes 9 from scratch and I still had to do a recovery of the ipod last night. Today I bought a new interface cable on the theory that my old cable might be defective. I've been able to plug it in tonight without itunes complaining about being unable to access the ipod

  • TS4062 ipod classic issues when trying to sync with itunes

i have an ipod classic which has always worked great when getting music from itunes, but i bought a new computer and now i can't get it to sync. i also have an ipod touch which works fine. i need help figuring out how to sync with my new computer and the classis. any suggestions?

    Update:
Any new news on this issue from anyone else?
I left my iPod plugged into my PowerBook over night and when I woke it was functional. However, downloads from iTunes to the iPod take almost 3x's longer than they used to and there seems to be more errors than I've ever experienced (about 1 out of every 10 interfaces). Sometimes the error is that it can't write to the drive (iPod) and sometimes the error is that it can't mount the iPod. Also when the iPod is plugged in and displayed in iTunes, the "used" and "free" info is incorrect. I completely emptied my iPod and it says that I'm using -2.80 GB (impossible unless I've created a blackhole) and it says that I have 10.49 GB (capacity, under Get Info, is listed at 9.28 - which is were it's always been - it's a gen2 10GB iPod).
Has anyone tried to format there iPod? Is this possible without harming the drive?
Well, to sum it up my iPod is working but is having errors and bugs all over the place. If anyone has any new news I'd love to hear it.
    SPECS: iPod 10GB gen2, running 1.5(?), iTunes 6.0.4, PowerBook G4 800, OS 10.4.5
    Thanks

  • Ical and IPOD classic issue.

I put together my work schedule on iCal. I work nights.
I synced my work calendar to the ipod classic (80gb).
    But....
The calendar on the Ipod is inaccurate. For example. if I added an iCal entry for Thursday night as a work night from 11pm to 7am but Friday night is an off night, the iPod calendar would read that on Thursday, I am scheduled for work from 11pm to 7am, BUT...it would also read that Friday night, I am scheduled for work from 11pm to 7am too. Obviously, this is wrong.
I'm looking for some help on this issue.
    Thanks

So I just tried this in order to see if I could help.
Exported a calendar as an .ics file, created a new "test" calendar in Google, then imported my .ics file into the new calendar.
    The message I received was:
"Reviewed 89 events; imported 18 events; Unable to process your iCal/CSV file."
Looking at the new Google calendar, I noticed that any RECURRING events were not imported. However, all of the all-day and or timed events that were single occurrences imported perfectly.
Are both of you experiencing similar behavior or is NOTHING getting imported?

  • HT203242 I use ipod classic 120G. When I launch itunes I first of all see a message "The registry settings used by itunes drivers for importing and burning cds & DVDs are missing." I cannot sync my ipod. Any ideas?

I use an ipod classic 120G. When I try to launch itunes I first of all see a box stating "The registry settings used by itunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall itunes"   This I have done. obviously I cannot burn CDs but worse still is my ipod is not being recognised by itunes and will not sync. I have not installed any new burning softeware. Any suggestions please?

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

  • Using iPod Classic (80GB) with a Firewire dock

I gave my daughter a new 80GB iPod Classic to replace her 2003 era iPod 15GB, dock connector (with the 4 buttons). Her 12" PowerBook G4 doesn't have USB2, so I was wondering if it is safe to use her old Firewire docking station with the new iPod Classic? I would assume so for two reasons: 1) the dock connector is mechanically the same and 2) I have read that the iPod Classic will still charge from the Firewire power pins. Is this correct? I'd rather she not blow it up right out of the box.

You will be able to use it to charge and output audio through the dock's out port, but that's it. It will not connect to the mac via firewire at all.
An iPod classic can be connected to USB 1.1 but it may or may not sync at all and if it does, it will be painfully, hopelessly slow. You may want to consider syncing the iPod with a different mac... you can use a Firewire hard drive or Target Disk Mode to transfer or copy her library to another machine.
On the upshot, a new aluminum Macbook is expected to hit the market in time for Christmas...

  • ?? re using IPOD Classic as backup for photos while away on vacation

I bought an 80GB IPOD Classic primarily as a backup storage device for photos while away for 3 months. I have copied about 4 g of songs onto it (using my main computer and ITUNES) and now plan to use it to back up photos using my Laptop (which doesn't have ITUNES on it).
I realize that I don't want to use the ITUNES Photo Sync as I will be using it on two computers and it will erase and sync the new photo files so I plan to copy and paste the files in using Windows Explorer. I've done a couple of tests and all seems fine - using Explorer I copy Pictures Folders into the IPOD and I can see the files, open them, delete them, etc - and they're the correct size.
My question is this - I can't seem to "see" the photo files on the IPOD itself - when used as a storage device can you not see the photos? Is there another menu I can't find?
Also - I checked off the "Enable Disk Use" and "Full Resolution" in ITUNES - maybe that's not necessary as I'm not using ITUNES for the photos?
    Thanks for any help

*I can't seem to "see" the photo files on the IPOD itself - when used as a storage device can you not see the photos? Is there another menu I can't find?*
You can't "view" anything on your screen that is added to the iPod when using it as a storage device, in the same way that you can't play songs added in that mode either. You can only access those files through Windows Explorer (or Finder on a Mac), you can only view or play anything added through iTunes.
