Used Relocate Masters to new g-drive. Lost Aperature Library and meta data

how i crashed aperature
1.56 aperature
all updates current
tiger 10.4.11
all updates current
Goal was to move Aperature Library from MBP to g-drive.
what i did:
1. "Relocate Master" to g-drive. Success. Aperature still viewed all Files with all Meta Data normally.
2. Collapsed "Library" in Projects Panel. Did not delete Projects. Did not delete any Photos.
3. Preferences > Image Management > set new Aperature Library on g-drive.
4. Uploaded new photos from a Canon and viewed them successfully.
5. Ejected g-drive correctly.
what Aperature is not doing now:
1. no Projects show up.
2. no Referenced Photos show up.
3. no Vaults show up. Note: the Vault was originally on MBP, but I foolishly did not set one up on g-drive before moving. I also have a back up Vault on a different g-drive that is, unfortunately, not up to date with all current photos before move.
4. Aperature Library on g-drive is there but can not open any files in it. [note: item 3 above]
5. Image files listed in g-drive but won't open in Aperature but do open in Preview or Gimp, etc.
6. Aperature does not show any Vaults nor does it access Referenced Files.
*Can you help ?*
*I guess these would be the questions:*
1. How can I get the pics from the g-drive back into an Aperature Library with all the previous Meta Data attached to each Version?
2. How do I get the Aperature Library - I put on the g-drive - to open in Aperature?
3. If #1 is impossible - I guess I set up a Vault on the g-drive and move what I have from the back up Vault mentioned above.
*Thanks for any advice !!!*

If I an not mistaken, I may have read through your pdf's quite a while ago. I am still trying to digest them and then apply them to my needs. If I had known that small projects may be faster and easier to manage than larger ones I would have done my imports quite differently. I chose to use Aperture in the first place to organize and add information to photos. I archive old photos. In particularly from 350th Fighter Group, WWII in the Mediterranean. So one "Project" of mine is =/-5000 images in the form of TIFF scans. I imported all of these into 1 project. Then I started applying metadata and keywwords like crazy. This allowed me to start to sort the photos into categories and find multiple version of the same image. I started making stacks of all the multiples. Then with smart albums and smart web sites I was able to create what might now be smaller projects. Since I gather information from others by sharing these photos on a website, You are able to see the smart websites here.
http://web.me.com/vizcarraguitars/350thFighter_Group_Blog/350th_FG_Blog/350th_FGBlog.html
One cool thing is that various images reside in multiple smart webs based on common keyword. But now that I have all this organization, it seems it is time to put all my originals in a similar order via Aperture.
By the way, my files are reference files unless I make the mistake of importing them without leaving them in there original location.
I am thinking of starting over with blue folders. But I can't seem to get my head around it.

I entered Iphoto for my user and only photo up until 2012 were in the library.  I thought the restore would do the incremental Time Machine backups too.....

You'd have to think through this, but it seems like if you are using Outlook, and the items vanished from the Outlook client as well as the server, that you could re-populate Outlook using iTunes.

You can't use an external hard drive like you would with a computer.
You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)
When you first connect the USB flash drive, you will only see thumbnails of the pics on the iPad; you have to import the pic file to see the full size. With your large library of pics, you will have to do this repeateably and then delete pics so you don't exceed your memory capacity.

I installed a new SSD drive in my computer and now Adobe Creative Suite Web Premium says I don't have a license. I have license. It was very expensive. I am disabled now, and I need this software working. Adobe Acrobat has been a primary tool for accommodating memory problems after a brain injury. (A car ran me down while I was out getting exercise.) I installed the SSD because I needed my management of PDF files to run faster. I called tech support for help when the software first stopped working, but they needed me to give them a number from my original disks. Because of my disability, I've been having someone come in to clean, and the shelves where I kept my software packages were cleared. I've been hunting for them ever since, but I can't look for them myself for very long at a time. Today I finally found them, but now I can't seem to contact tech support. What happened? I don't want to delete my old files because I need the setup to remain unchanged, because I don't do well with changes. I think all I should need is to have someone located the license file on drive E: and move it to wherever it is needed on the SSD drive, but I don't know what to look for.

Tech support is not normally available on weekends.  You should contact them as soon as the weekend passes and pick up where you left off with them.

  • HT4901 By synching our computer and tablet together with our new iphone, we lost all our critical calendar data. How do we get it back?

By synching our computer and tablet together with our new iphone, we lost all our critical calendar data. How do we get it back? The help info, HT4901, was the closest info from the Help pages but it assumed we were already on icloud and had simply disconnected our calendar from icloud. Actually, we were simply trying to synch our devices by signing up with icloud for the first time, so it seems our calendar never had a chance to get uploaded. In any case, how do you reconnect / re-access a calendar on icloud?

If your calendar does not appear on icloud.com it never uploaded to iCloud.  If it is no longer on your computer you would have to restore it from a backup source such as Time Machine to restore it.

You need at least 10.6.7 installed. If that's the case, since you didn't indicate anything, update to 10.6.8, launch the App Store.app in /Applications, and click on the Redeem link.

Well, you sink everything on your 3GS onto your laptop/computer. Then you reset your iPhone 4. When you are restarting it, add all those apps music (ect)  On to it. It seems difucult but for more info call Apple. I did that and he lead me step by step on how to do it. Well hope this helped~~

  • Masters in new hard drive... and Aperture can't locate them!

    Hello guys,
this is my first message here... I'm from Rome, I'm a photographer and I am - obvioulsy - a Mac enthusiast user!
I use Aperture for a year, this is a great app for my workflow but now I have a "little big" problem.
Today, I've bought a new external hard drive where I've moved the Aperture Library and all my photo archive (referenced files). Now Aperture opens the library from the new location, it shows all previews but can't locate any master because it looks for them in the old path.
I'm trying to set up the new one with "Relocate Masters for Projects..." and "Manage Referenced Files..." commands but I had no success.
    Please, could you help me?
What is the right procedure to solve this problem?
    I'm going mad...
    Thank you in advance!
    Alex

I found today that you only really need to "re-refrence" one image...so the post above is correct. You just need to have all of the images you want to reconnect when you go to the "manage referenced files" box.
Assuming that all of them are on the same volume, and relatively in the same location, this should work.
    1) Select all of your images...say all of the 2007 images.
    2) Right click on one that is showing the offline volume.
    3) Select "Managed referenced files..."
    4) Find the 1 file in the browser that needs refrencencing, and it should light up the "Reconnect All" button.
    5) Click "Reconnect All"
...it'll take a while (depending on # of images, but it should work.

  • How to Move Masters to New Hard Drive?

First, like many of you, my computer is nearly 95% photos taken. This is how I've operated in years past: Did shoot, dumped on Aperture. When the computer got full I moved everything over to an external hard drive even though the respective Aperture libraries did not link up with the photos anymore. Now, that I am selling stock, I need to have full access to all my images, so I can upload and sell them.
I moved my library over to my new 1-terabyte hard drive, but my images are still coming from my "pictures" section on my main computer drive. When I tried tried to Aperture: File: Relocate Masters, the computer started consolidating the images and telling me there was no longer a link to some previewed images. Remember, I moved many images from 2007-2009 to external hard drives. (I'm sure compared to many of you; I'm an unorganized mess.)
So, my questions are: How do I get my photos from my main drive to my new hard drive? And, can I delete the raw files taking up 95% of my computer space that are stored at "pictures" after I move them? And, how can I link my previews back to the images I moved to external hard drives?
    Thanks in advance!

If you have a mess, I would recommend that you let Aperture do the heavy lifting for you. (With thanks to Rob Boyer for this suggestion.)
ASSUMPTION: You do not have enough room on your internal HD to simply run a Managed Library and still have about 25% free space and you must therefore use Referenced Masters.
ASSUMPTION TWO: You know the arrangement that you would like to have.
Step .5: Backup everything. I recommend cloning your entire system. You want a safety blanket in case you make a mistake. Take the clone off line, unplug it, keep it safe.
Step One: Set up the arrangement of Folders and Projects that you want in Aperture. You don't have to worry about all of the albums you may want, just your bottom line, basic stucture.
Step Two: Opening one Project at a time, consolidate all of the Masters for a given Project into your Library. Move, don't copy.
Step Three: Still working one Project at a time, Relocate the Masters to a Library folder(s) located whereever you wish. Work slowly, setting up some simple structure that you understand. Again, move, don't copy. N.B. You are doing all of this using Aperture's commands, not/not using the Finder. Sub note, you have the option of renaming your files, should you wish.
Step Four: Using the Finder, check your work. The master files should have disappeared from their original location and now appear in your new Libarary folder(s).
Step Five: If all is well, move to the next Project. If any links are broken, fix them as you go. If all else fails, delete the Versions in Aperture (being careful NOT to delete any any Referenced Masters) and reimport into the correct Project.
    Again:
-- Organize the images in Aperture
-- Consolidate the images (move) into the Aperture Library.
-- Relocate (not Export) the Masters out to the pristine folder/file structure of your choice.
N.B. Never, ever, on pain of Aperture death, move or change your Referenced Masters. (You can let other programs READ them.)
    Hope this is helpful.

  • What's the correct way to use "Relocate Masters?"

I have 100GB of master images on one drive. Twenty gigs of those photos are imported into Aperture already (I use the referenced masters method), and I will be importing the remaining 80 gigs eventually (all referenced). For now I need to move all 100 gigs to another drive. How should I do this in Aperture?
Is "relocate masters" just for the images already imported and part of my Aperture library? Should I just drag and drop the other 80 gigs that are not yet imported? What procedure would you use to accomplish what I need to do? Thanks.

No, the best way would be to run relocate masters first and let Aperture move the images that are already imported into it.  When that's done drag whats left.
If you drag all the files over Aperture will lose track of the ones imported into it ad you will have to run reconnect master rather than relocate master and while reconnecting works it's not as easy as relocate.

  • How to use recovery dvd on new hard drive, install window 7

hello, i have trouble with my laptop. my hard drive got bad sectors and now i need to replace my hdd to new one. im not sure how to reinstall window 7 on my new hdd.
is it possible to install operating system on new hard drive using recovery disk? and how?

    Hi,
Yes, recovery discs will work on a new hard drive, but it's generally best to ensure that the replacement drive is of the same capacity ( slightly larger is Ok ) as the original - recovery discs can have issue when used on a drive that has a smaller capacity than the original.
When you have replaced the HDD, all you need to do is as follows.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.
    Insert the 1st Recovery Disc.
Select Boot options ( f9 ), use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and hit enter.  You may also get a prompt to 'Press any key to continue' - do this if asked.
You will be prompted to insert subsequent discs as required.

  • New Hard Drive - Lost Front Row!

    Hello,
I have an iMac running on Tiger 10.4.11 and this past week I had my hard drive replaced. My computer originally came with Front Row installed, but it is not on my new hard drive, and was never an icon in my applications folder, therefore it is not on my external hard drive and I cannot put it onto my new hard drive (I only backed up my documents, photos, music, and applications folders). Is there any way I can get front row back?
