Used to be able to burn cds of much larger size

For over a year my wife has been recording cds on her MBP using Audacity for a class she teaches. They are saved as wav files and imported into iTunes where she makes a new playlist and burns to cds to distribute to the students who use them to practice the material recorded. No problem, even with several hundred MB files and around 35 mins recording time. But today (been a month or more since before) we are getting error messages in iTunes saying there is not enough room on the blank disc, do you want to split into multiple discs. This is with only 10 short recordings adding up to about 75 MB. Yet when I try to burn just one short file it works. Has something changed such that the limit has been reduced?
iTunes 10.2.2, OSX 10.6.7, tried on both a mid 2009 MBP 15" 2.4 GHz, and on an iMac 11,3 i3 w/12 GB RAM
Next is Applecare but thot I'd try a quick question here first.
Thank you

Replying to my own post -
I called AppleCare and the guy narrowed it down to the media I was using. Sure enough, I had just bought a 100-pack of Memorex CD-Rs from Office Depot and that was the problem. Went back to Verbatim and no problems now.

  • I used to be able to burn photos onto a CD-R disc. Now I insert a new, blank disc and am told there is insufficient spac available for my selected year of photos. Even when reducing the date to ONE photo, I still get the same message. Confused.

I used to be able to burn a selection of photos from my iPhoto library onto a CD-R disc. Today I inserted a new blank disc and was shown a message that there was insufficient space for my chosen year of photos. Even when I reduced the date to include only ONE photo!- the message was the same. I am at a loss as to why, and what to do. My iMac is about 7 years old and upgraded to Snow leopard. Any bright ideas?

When burning a CD-R, the OS first creates a 'shadow' disk image that replicates what the CD will look like, then it copies that data to the CD-R itself. Therefore you need enough free space on your internal drive to create this temporary image. If your internal hard drive is full you won't be able to create the shadow, and that could be what you're seeing.
If the OP's disk is too full to permit the creation of a 700MB disk image, it's a wonder that the computer is functioning.

  • No longer able to burn CDs in iTunes 9.2.1.5

I looked at the FAQ, checked everything it suggests including device filters, everything looks good. I can backup iTunes library to CD-R no problem. I can burn audio CD-R with other programs no problem (I used exact audio copy). iTunes detects both audio and MP3 data CDs no problem. I just cannot burn a disc from iTunes. I used to be able to a couple of weeks ago. I still can on a different computer. I get no error messages. When I insert a blank CD-R, the drive reads it for a while, but iTunes never seems to see it.
I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes. No change.
I browsed through the forums, didn't find anything that helped.
Any suggestions for anything else to try would be appreciated.

I have cleaned off my hard drive and re installed Windows 7. I downloaded Itunes V 10 and still can not burn a disk. I tunes error msg says Itunes.exe has campatiblity problem with old setting. I have disabled all compatibility settings.

  • Using compressor DVD Studio Pro 4 will only accept ac3 format in the burn process. ac3 makes a nnsense of the good sound delivered, 30% reduction in volume, auto volume levelling giving unwanted volume variations. Used to be able to burn using AIFF/WAVE,

AS Above. Edited in FCPX. Excellent sound file. Using Compressor 4 to DVD Studio 4. Wanting AIFF or WAVE sound for acurate sound.
Previously DVD Studio 4 has accepted AIFF etc and delivered sound as reuired. Now, during the burn process everything other than ac3 is declined as 'video bit rate too high', but will burn if the AIFF format is replaced with ac3 (which I presume meanss the 'video bit rate too high' is referring to the sound file)
The issue with ac3 format is the huge reduction in original volume and worse, the 'auto volume levelling' that makes a nonsense of the original soundtrack - with simply aweful unwanted variations in volume Throughout the  the dvd.
I have tried everything I can think of to get around this. The 'volume gain' in compressor doesn't make any difference. Exporting just AIFF and the Video to DVD 4 doesn't make any difference, it always declines anything but the aweful sound ac3 delivers.
I have customers awaiting a musci DVD, not with thei quality I can't.
    Cheers
    Phil

The total video bit rate is determined by audio & video. Depending on what rate your video file was encoded at will determine how much room is left for audio. PCM(aiff/wav) audio requires a bigger piece of the pie. Video bit rate too high means your overall(video+audio) rate is going above 9Mbps which the format won't allow. The only way to use aiff would be to lower your video file's data rate. The length of your program is also a factor in all of this.
I had some problems in the past with using aiff instead ac3. Although there shouldn't be any issue I experienced playback issues on some players that couldn't be explained but were cleared up by ac3.  I have been using the same specs as Dave's suggestion for almost nine years and have not had any issues with mix, quality, or levels.

  • Using Windows Media Player to burn CDs

I use Acoustica to create music files from my audio tapes. Then I burn these files to a CD. Sometimes the files will be listed with the file time, and sometimes without. When there is no time, Media Player says it can't burn that file because it can't detect
the time. Why not? In Acoustica the files all have times, but Media Player finds a time or not with no rhyme or reason I can find.

Can you check with the different CD burning app like Nero?

  • Burning CDs that store large amounts of music

    Hi, could someone help me?
I know someone who has Windows XP and has a bunch of CDs that he plays in his car, and these CDs have a lot of songs on them, around 50-100 tracks.
Is it possible for me to burn a CD with iTunes that plays 50-100 songs? Is it something to do with the formats? Please help. Thanks.
    PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Amy,
Converting your current tracks will give you duplicates as you say. However you can always delete these quite easily by adding the Kind column to your Library view then sorting your tracks to segregate MP3 and AAC. You can burn your MP3 CD and delete the tracks afterwards. To add Kind, right click at the top of any Library column and choose Kind from the list. Use a smart playlist to gather up the MP3s by giving it the rule "Kind" is "MPEG audio file".

  • HELP! I updated my software and can no longer burn cds using iTunes

I followed all of the troubleshooting steps for not being able to burn a cd. I was able to burn cds with other cd burning programs installed on my pc, but itunes was the only program that would not burn the cd correctly. itunes would go through the entire process of burning: check media, check playlist, burn cd, finish burning cd. itunes would even ask me if I wanted to import the new cd into my playlist after it finished "burning" my cd but there was never anything on the cd. I also tried playing the cd using other programs and in other equipment but it never worked. I updated my software recently and I thought I could try to go back to an older version because I never had this problem before. However, when I uninstalled the newer version and tried to reinstall an older version of itunes, the older version of itunes refused to open because my music library was apparently created by the newer version of itunes. I don't know what to do to be able to burn cds again. At this point, I would much rather use another cd burning program but itunes is the only program that will burn the songs that I've purchased from itunes onto a cd.

  • CD Drive Won't Recognize DVDs or Burn CDs

I have a white MacBook. My CD Rom will read CDs and I can get content off of CDs. However, I am not able to burn CDs. It recognized the CD and the burn process starts, but then the CD is spit out. Also, it doesn't recognized DVDs, it tries to read it for a few seconds, but then spits it out. It's a three-year old computer. Is this a software or hardware problem? I don't have Apple Care for that computer so it would be nice to get some help on here.

    I'm completely stumped, honestly.
Are you backing up your data regularly? Are you using Time Machine?
Before you do anything more, try creating a new user account to see if discs work normally in the new user account.
If that brings no joy, I suggest using your install discs to do an Archive & Install (making sure to preserve user settings) and see if the problem clears up. After the install, do not install any updates right away.
If the problem persists after an Archive & Install you can also try an Erase & Install to completely rule out a software issue. If after the Erase and Install the disc drive still doesn't work properly, some portion of the hardware has failed and will need to be replaced.

  • Cannot Burn CDs, Disc recording not found

Pretty straight forward issue here. I am not able to burn CDs.  I have tried the UpperFilter reg fixes that are out there with no luck.  When i do a complete reinstall and go into the diag tools i can see the drive is listed. If i apply the UpperFilter reg fix and try the diag tools again there is no drive listed. I am able to use the burner drive with other applications to burn ISOs without any problem but iTunes seems to be pretty useless when it comes to burning discs.  Also on start up I get the classic "iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs you need to reinstall iTunes." and when i reinstall obviously no luck.
    Any thoughts?

That is the key statement out of the whole error message you posted.
It looks like it's having trouble loading the CD/DVD drives.  Try doing a repair install as it notes there, and also check to see what other burning software you have installed on your system as some of it can conflict with iTunes.  You may need to uninstall the other CD Burning software.

  • Burning cds with itunes and Windows Vista

It seems like my problems with itunes are never ending on my HP laptop with Windows Vista. Originally, itunes screwed up my disc drive, but then I downloaded the 64 bit version of it and that turned out ok. However, whenever I started itunes it says it wasn't downloaded properly and I won't be able to import or burn cds. I've downloaded it before multiple times to see if that message would go away when I started it up, but it didn't. That was fine for a while because I never burn cds but today I wanted to and it wouldn't work. It would say Disc Recording not found. So, I thought I should upgrade to the new itunes 8.1 but I was afraid to because it might screw up the disc drive again. And of course, it did. I even downloaded the 64 bit version. So I guess my question is, how can I install the 64 bit version without that error message and be able to burn cds?

    paul's onto it.
if you run your DVD/CD diagnostics (in itunes "help > DVD/CD diagnostics", select DVD/CD diagnostics) and you see a 2380 error showing up down near the bottom of the diagnostics (you may need to scroll down a bit), try reinstalling the 64-bit version of the GEAR drivers iTunes uses for importing and burning.
here's a link through to the GEAR drivers. note that there are two different versions of the 64-bit drivers. be sure to get the one that matches your hardware:
