Used to be able to import from Panasonic NV-GS120(DV), but now can't

Hi,
I have been able to import from our Panasonic NV-GS120 (DV) camera numerous times before using Imovie. However, now Imovie detects the camera, but when I go to push the "play" button to start the import process, the computer hangs. I have no idea as to why all of a sudden it doesn't want to work!

Test another FW-Cable.
Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
Toogle in iMovie pref: Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
Other ways to import Your miniDV tape:
Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE Mac OS Exchange formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)
(Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly)
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin FW one ?
Using WHAT ? :
• Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
• QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
• iMovie 8 (7.1.?) ?
Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? (Others don't count)
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)
Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into
this and have a re-try.

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

camera not on battery, but power-line?
did your Mac 'recognize' this camera before...?
a technical check:
connect camera, on, playback, fw-connected...
click on the Blue Apple, upper left of your screen ..
choose 'About../More..
under Firewire.. what do you read..?

It's a Finder feature, related to Quick Look. You can hit the space bar in the file list to get a preview.
If that doesn't work, you may have an issue witha preference file or similar. I find rebuilding the launch databse works quite well resilving tis kind of thing, as does trashing Finder preferences

Suddenly i am unable to import RAW to Lr4.4. I was able to import just prior to leaving US, but now i receive an error message (if i could update the screenshot, i would)

i have been using Lr for years. No recent changes to my preferences on Lr4.4 or my MacBookPro. When i tried to import RAW while traveling in Vietnam, i receive this error message
"some import operations were not performed"
then there is a list of my import files with the comment "the following files were not imported because they could not be read"
yet i have been importing RAW files from this camera (Canon D5II) for several years.

"Could not be read" means that the destination directory, where the photos are supposed to be copied into, does not have WRITE permission.
Change your permissions on that folder.

My iPod won't charge on a wall charger, only on the computer. I used the same cord for both though. I used to be able to charge it with a wall charger, but now suddenly I can't. I've even used other wall pieces. Nothing seems to work.

My iPod will no longer charge with a wall charger, only the computer. I know it's not becuase of the wall piece or my cord, since I also use the same cord for computer charging, and the wall piece seems to work with others devices. It worked a couple of weeks ago, then suddenly quit. I think it may be something to do with the inside of my iPod where the charger goes. I find it really inconvient to always have to use the computer to charge my iPod. I believe I have a three year warrenty on my iPod, but I wouldn't think it would cover this problem. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Until very recently I used to be able to open multiple browsing windows in Firefox, but now I can only open one window & if I close down the session & try to reopen Firefox it doesn't open

I can restart Firefox only after rebooting my laptop.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears. 
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions. 
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

I moved keynote presentations from i-cloud to documents but now can not find them. Where did they go?

I tried to re-located Keynote presentations from i-cloud to documents due to storage issue and now I can not locate them. Any suggestions?

Import from Panasonic DMC-FZ28 Lumix

Trying to import from Panasonic DMC-FZ28 Lumix but the only import option is the
in-built camera on my MPB (10.5.7).
I can see the camera in the Finder window and can click on various photos.
When the camera was connected to the USB port and select the setting as PC Connection.
Is there something else I need to do in order for iMovie to see this camera ?

If you are using iPhoto, import the photos into iPhoto. Then, in iMovie, start a new Project and name it (or open and old project). Open the Photo Browser in iMovie, and drag the photos in from there.
If you are not using iPhoto, drag the jpegs from your camera to a folder in the Finder.
Open iMovie. Start a new project and name it (or open and old project). Drag and drop the photos from the Finder window into your project.

does it not show a printer when you use airprint? were you using airprint or a thirdparty app to print? Some basic steps would to be power cycle your iPad and iPhone and also the printer, and make sure they are all on the same wireless network if you are using air print.

Your MacBook Pro would be able to run Lion (which is required for iCloud). It's a $29.99 (US) upgrade in the Mac App store. Otherwise you can check your process for importing to iPhoto against this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083. A third option is to transfer you photos to your computer wirelessly using an app like PhotoSync.

Ask your friend to supply you the DVD as a data DVD using either DV or AIC as the video format, burning the DVD as a DVD for a DVD player will degrade the video quality.

I dont know whats going on but its really driving me nutts
I used to be able to import the .mov from my HD Mini camcorder into my iMovie to edit my movies.
But the last time i did this was 4 months ago.
Between the last time and now I went through some updates of iMovie. Today i came back trying to use the same camera with new footage, and tried to import it into iMovie. I would act like it did but nothing would show up.
Now i did a search on there and every one say convert to this and that.
No i really dont want to do that, because i used to be able to import them, so i shouldn't do it differently because i imported over 100+ mov from that camera before.
DID THEY BLOCK .MOV FILES NOW ? or whats the deal ?
I also noticed the option to click on the little icon and have the little icon play the video disappeared.
Now i have to double click on the MOVIE icon and launch Quick time to watch the files. It used to be able to play it in Icon format.

Are you using a different version of iMovie from when you were able to import the .mov files?
Are you importing the movies in the exact same way that you have in the past?
Could you share with us how you are trying to import the .mov files...
Ex. from the camera, or from media such as disk or thumbdrive, etc...

What I have found is that when I upgraded from PSE12 to 13, my Lightroom 5.6 still selected PSE12 in the list of external editors. I had to use the preferences menu to select the right PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe in the Program Files/Adobe/Photoshop Elements 13 folder. I got a message stating that Photoshop Elements was already selected as external editor. In that message box, there is a button with the option to 'change anyway', which I did. Now LR correctly opens PSE13 when I choose Edit in Elements.
