Useful Discovery to avoid Zen Micro Hang

Hi,
Thougt I'd just let people know about a wee trick I found which has stopped my Zen Micro hanging when I turn it on. What used to happen, was when I turned on my Zen, it would hang at the Creative screen. This may happen more when it is near full capacity as this didn't happen as much when I had less on the thing.
I've found that if before turn it off, I stop it playing. To do this, you hit the Play/Pause button, to pause the track you're listening to. You then push the Next track button while it is paused and this stops it playing, but keeps it at the current track.
Now turn the Zen off as usual. Using this method, I don't ever get the screen freezes.

I am very disappointed and cheesed with creative zen mirco players. I had a previous one replaced (Paid $50 extra for a new replacement) as the connecting point of the player to the earphones had spoilt in just yr 2 mths. Note: it was just 2 mths after my warranty was over.
The second player i had, had a warranty for only 3 mths and now, in my 4th month, i am facing the same problem that you guys are having!! I have formatted my player 3 times, installed the latest firmware 2 times and i face not only screen hanging when i play it, but even at the recovery mode it also hangs!!
Such an unstable product makes me really think twice about the quality of creative products. Perhaps there is a reason why they are losing out to their competitor!

I use Nomad Jukebox3 and want to use another, smaller player (Zen Micro) for travelling. Are there any known problems with connecting and managing 2 separate Creative players on one PC?
    Would appreciate any advice.

    You shouldn't have any problems.

  • Zen Micro hanging on firmware upgr

    Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade the firmware on my Zen Micro from .02.05 to ..0, but the application sticks at "Upgrading in progress," for 0-5 minutes until I crash out. The player just shows "Docked" and the in progress black arrows.
Any suggestions on how I can complete the upgrade? Is it advisable to remove the previous firmware using the Reload Firmware option and then run the upgrade application, or will this really mess up my Micro?
    All advice appreciated
    Many thanks

I'm on version 2..02 right now, a hanging when syncing problem led me to reload the firmware but the player hangs. Now I'm getting a "firmware problem" screen when powering up the player.
I tried upgrading to the same version or to .xx.xx last version, but there is a firmware upgrade failed problem or a hanging after "format successfull" problem, respecti'vely.
Reading this thread, tried disabling every program at startup, but the result is the same. Tried in two different computers, with XP SP 2 and windows media player 0 and .
Any suggestion after this? My player is more than year old, so customer support won't listen to me.

I don't remember hearing this before.
If you run a disk cleanup manually does it work? To run a Disk Cleanup you need to access the Rescue Mode on the Zen Micro. To access the Rescue Mode: remove the battery, hold the power switch to the "on" position and KEEP IT HELD TO "ON" while reinserting the battery. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu. Note: Disk cleanup should not remove your tracks. It searches through the disk for files and rebuilds the index, and can be useful for correcting any strange behaviour.

  • Brand New Zen Micro Hangs on "Creative" Logo Scr

Like some of you out there my new Zen Micro worked with the initial charge prior to my charging it although I never got to put any music on the thing.
Then after the charge, it hangs on the "Creative" logo screen. I've tried all of the instructions, including removing the battery, holding on-off switch "on" while replacing the battery, choose one of the options, but the clean-up, format, etc. all seem to start but do not finish (I've left each for half a day and it never finishes).
I downloaded the new firmware and connected my Zen via the USB cable to my PC, but my PC does not see the Zen device and asks me to connect it even thought the device is connected and the "Creative" logo screen is displayed.
Does anyone have a strategy for correcting this issue? I can return the device, but I hate to since I love the idea of using it. It's cool.

    hi,
hope this is not too late... but try calling the creative support hotline .. have someone from creative walk you through the trouble-shooting in case something was missed when you tried it.
that way, you can get creative support to confirm if the device is defecti've or not and they can provide you suggestions on how to rectify it: return/exchange with seller, return/exhange through creative, etc.
i also went through that drama last week, when my micro was charging and never responded afterwards. turns out mines was defecti've even before i even played anything on it
i called amazon and was able to get them to send me another one. this new one was able to finish charging the battery ... i'm charging the 2nd battery to make sure and hopefully when that's done, i can start loading songs and test out the sound as well, recorder, calendar, etc .. as i wanted to make full use of all these features.
hope you get your micro working soon.. good luck!!!

  • ZEN Micro hang on battery cha

My just-out-of-the-box ZEN Micron player worked OK when I inserted the minimally charged new battery from the box, but after I connected it to the charger, and the battery charged up, the player froze, i.e. no touchpad or other inputs would work, it wouldn't even shut down with the power switch, and stayed that way until the idle-OFF kicked in, then it re-started and was still be frozen. Only after I removed the back, took out the battery and replaced it, did the player respond to controls again. Creative, please help on this. Thank You!

  • Zen Micro hangs up both in rescue mode and normal m

I've had my Zen Micro for about 2 months now but all of a sudden it just didn't want to start up at all (It came to the CREATIVE screen and then just stopped). Not knowing about any rescue mode, I decided to send it back to where I bought it. I got it back a few weeks later, with the message that I had to manually update firmware again but I didn't really know how I could since it wouldn't even be recognized in windows. I then came here and saw that there was this cool Rescue Mode thing. I started it up and just decided to format it all. I looked at it after 0 minutes but it was still saying "Formating all". Waited a few hours, same thing. Then I went to bed. When I woke up, the screen was blank and I thought it was done but it had just ran out of batteries. So I plugged it in and tried to start it up, but same thing with the creative screen. Then I decided to go into the rescue mode (again) and try to do the reload firmware. It have been standing at "Erasing firmware" for about 3 hours now and nothing has happened.
    Should I just return it's

  • Zen Micro hangs inconsistently...will firmware upgrade he

Hi all, hope someone can help or offer insight on this. I picked up a 6 gig mico..love it. But do not love the inconsistencies that have been happening. For example, it works fine all morning. Two hours later I turn it on and it hangs at the creative screen. I clean and reboot and its fine. Next morning it hangs again, clean and reboot..then its fine again, later in the day..same thing. This has been happening quite a few times a week. Would upgrading the firmware be of any help?...this was a refurb that I probably should have sent back and got another..unfortunately it is past the 30 days... any opinions?.. I cant understand if it is working it should work all the time. Could it be the battery? I have seen it does lose it charge rather quickly -more than it should. And I have been extra gentle, seeing how this is a disc player!
    thanks for any response!

I feel for you bro i had this same BS problem only a few days ago. I must have spent about 5 hours in total trying to fix it and this included perusing these forums for an answer of which none of the 'solutions' worked, i tried using it on other PC's of which none of them it worked. Tried sw reinstallations, SP/2 reinstallations/removals, hardware changes to USB blah blah nothing worked and its's not like i don't know jack about computers because I do.
Your even lucky because in my case all that was required was the latest FW upgrade to make my player COMPLETELY UNRECOGIZABLE by both the FW installation program and WMP0 hence I couldn;t even downgrade.... I removed the FW thinkin it was corrupt as exactly what you did but because of Creatives wonderful TQM I couldn't even put different FW on.
In the end I just sent it back for a return but now I'm kinda regretting doing so as reading these forums shows that there are 0 issues with this player that Creative simply overlooked and sooner or later I might get with one of them (headphones anyone?!). If the next one is a dud I may wait for the new iRi'ver h0 or somrthing.

  • Zen Micro Hangs but can be played without battery through the ma

My MP3 Player running on firmware ..0 HANGS when attempted to play on the battery. The only way to play music is to remove the battery and plug it to the power socket. IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE BATTERY OR THE PLAYER? Will this be solved by purchasing a new battery? Someone pls help.

Hmmm, not heard of this before. My guess would be to try a format (I hope you have a backup!), as it sounds like something has gone awry with the disk content.

  • Zen Micro constantly FREEZES during FIRMWARE UPGRADE - totally bricked!

    Hey,
It's just like it says. My Zen Micro currently has no firmware besides the recovery OS because I chose "reload firmware."? I try to upgrade to both versions of the Zen Micro firmware (.x and 2.x) and as soon as my computer gets started and the Zen Micro has the little "data exchange" icon on there, the computer and Zen Micro hang. The progress bar gets nowhere and it's the Micro that's frozen, not the computer or the firmware upgrade program (I'm a software engineer, I know if it's the program freezing, and it is NOT).
How in blazes is this happening? How can I stop my Micro from freezing? It's all so confusing!
By the way, stats about the PC used:
    OS: Windows XP Sp2
    Windows Media Player 0 installed
    USB 2.0 ports

I have exactly the same issue. Just tried to run the v.x to v2.x firmware upgrade and its been in recovery mode ever since. I tried to run the clean up / format / reload firmware option but it didn't work it just keeps coming back to the recovery mode. Anyone know how to fix this ? I was due to be getting on a 20 hour flight with this one as my company in half a days time so anyone with any good suggestions feel free to tell me ASAP!
    ThanksSteve

  • Running a Zen Micro on Windows 9

I am thinking of getting a Zen Micro and i am running Windows 98SE, although Windows 98SE is listed in the minimum system requirements it says this below:
"NOTE The software applications on the Zen Micro CD may have higher requirements for basic functionality. Refer to each application's documentation for details."
Does anybody know if there are higher requirements and what they are?
Is anyone running their Zen Micro on Windows 98SE?

I'm using 98SE and my Zen Micro works fine - no problems since I bought it in mid December (touch wood!!). I'm also using the supplied software without any problems.

  • ZEN MICRO "NOW PLAYING&qu

So after updating my firmware, everything works just like it used to on my ZEN micro EXCEPT my now playing window. The display just says "Select music to PLAY from the Music Library" without displaying the album, artist, or song title. Is there anyway to get this back? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

    dancerdawn,
This may sound silly but have you gone into the Music Library and add those audio tracks you wanted to playback to the Now Playing section?
Another thing, if you update the player firmware from version .xx.xx to 2.xx.xx, the player will be formatted so you need to re-transfer your audio files to the player.
