Useful Information about Open Outlook OST Files

If MS Outlook is connected with Exchange server then it creates .ost file format to save cached data in offline mode and all offline work automatically synchronized with Exchange server if connectivity is available. The process to read offline OST files can’t possible manually but users can open OST files by using OST Viewer software to read all information from OST files. This application is available free of cost that offers several advance features like dual switch views , preview OST files into different styles, advance scanning mode to fix corrupted OST files, supports all Windows OS, MS Outlook installation is not required and view emails, attachments, contacts, calendar, notes, task, journals etc.

Gerald,
In addition to Apple Archives, there are still user groups out there that use and support the equipment you speak of, although you mention the cube and computers from Y2K and newer.  This is the 'old folks home' of apple discussions.  Some of us continue to use computers from the 1980's.
AppleFreak is from Germany, Grant is from Boston. Some participants are from Austrailia, Texas, and the some from the Orient.
Feel free to post your questions and we will dig through the hardware and archives to keep you green.
Our particular youth group dismantles older computers in a program called recycled science.  We use past generations of equipment to teach future generations of kids about computer science and technology.  Since Apple was ahead of the curve for consumer electronics, older Apple products provide ample educational components.
Stay green and use that older computer.  We still surf the web with a G-4 mac mini.  Configure your equipment to the optimal operating system rather than the latest system for best results.
Enjoy, and come back often.

Recovery for exchange 2.0 reported a corrupted ost file
    Any ideas please?
    Thanks

    Hi,
For Exchange account/OST file, you really don't need to repair or convert it to pst to recover the data.(don't be taken in to use any of the recovery/convert-softwares which you might see below)
Actually your data/messages are still there on the server, as suggested by
<Ed> and <Keith> above, all you need to do is to configure your account again and let Outlook re-build the OST file.

  • Why I get CRC error when copying outlook.ost file?

My workstation is using NTFS, Outlook 2007 with Exchange 2007 server.
    My outlook.ost file is 1.7GB.
As my Outlook runs into problem, I tried to copy the outlook.ost file to another location for repair, but I keep getting CRC errors and the file was not copied.
I also tried to use winrar to compress it and it runs into the same CRC error.
Q#1. What causes this CRC error? hard disk error or software?
Q#2. How to repair such CRC error?
    Thanks.

    Hi Peter,
The cyclic redundancy check, or “CRC” error, indicates a bad spot/corruptions within the file that you are trying to copy and in lot of cases with your hard disk.
To make sure if the problem is with the .ost file or your hard disk, you can fire up a Command Prompt window, and then copy the file to NUL:
C:>CD (path of your .ost file)
    C:(path of your .ost file)>copy name.ost NUL
If this succeeds, the problem is with your .ost file. If this fails, it should be a hardware based disk issues.
If it's an issue with your .ost file, I'd suggest to run
scanpst.exe tool to repair your data file, then check if this fixed it.
When the issue is hardware based, you probably need to find Disk Errors in the System log of your Event Viewer. You can access the Event Viewer by going to:
Control Panel-> Administrative Tools-> Event Viewer
By the way, .ost file is actually a local copy of your mail items on the server. For a corrupted .ost file, you actually don't need to "copy the outlook.ost file to another location for repair". You can simply rename it to .ost.old
or delete it, and then re-launch Outlook to let it generate a new .ost file from server.

  • Can't open Outlook msg files

    Hi,
We are using Windows Phone with Nokia Lumia and we can't open outlook msg files.
From Desktop, we save Outlook messages into msg format in SharePoint libraries, but When I try to open this message using Internet Explorer with Nokia Lumina, it can't do it. Windows Phone can't open msg files.
It is this possible? Can't install Outlook client into Windows Phone? Exists any msg reader?
    Thanks

    Hello,
I am not really sure what that means?
Did you set it up manually on the sequencer, or did you create it manually on after monitoring?
Is whats captured the same thing as whats setup when its working?
Have you compared how it works on a manually setup client vs whats actually configured within your package?

  • Outlook OST file become large

    Hi,
My mailbox about 3GB, but the OST file size seems 38GB.
After recreate new OST, it grow very fast back to very huge file size.
    Any idea of this?

    Hii,
MS Outlook File grows as you create and receive items. Sometimes user of MS outlook encounter an error that OST file exceeded its default maximum file size while sending
and receiving emails. Deleting some data item from OST file might not decrease the file size in proportion to the data that you deleted.
To reduce the size of ost file you can either use Synchronization Filter method or you can
compact the size of ost file on advanced tab settings of exchange account. Synchronization filter Method restricts particular data items to be synchronized from exchange mailbox to ost thereby reducing the size of ost file at some extent.
Steps to be followed for Synchronization filter method,
Right click on folder and click
    properties
Click synchronization tab and then click
    Filter
Now provide the appropriate criteria for filtering that you want according to what data items should arrive in folder.
Click Ok and open outlook now

  • [Gnome 3.2]Nautilus reacts slowly, information about opening directory

I use the fallback mode in GNOME 3 and Nautilus.
    After upgrade to Gnome 3.2
When you select Menu - Location - Home (or any other directory), Nautilus opens this directory. I can move between directories without problems.
However, the information about the opening directory – in the picture, "Otwieranie ..."(which means "Opening ...") – disappears after about 10 seconds, and the mouse cursor changes to the shape a clock.
It's pretty annoying. How do I fix this?

I'm having the exact same issues since the upgrade. My theme is broken too and unless I remove the user menu from the top panel, it stays huge regardless of any changes to the size in the panel properties. My clock also doesn't look/act like it should using the default theme (Adwaita).
My cursor does not change though, probably because I have a /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme file to set the default cursor (this also applies to the DM).
I guess all you can do for now is wait until the themes get fixed to work with GTK 3.2 or just move to another DE, it seems Gnome isn't dedicating much effort to the classic desktop.

  • Get Information About Open Windows

    Hi everyone!!!!
I'm trying to make some kind of bot, the primary Idea is to automatize tasks. To do this, it would be really usefull to have information about the windows that are open, for example, if I open the notepad, It has a title, width, height, 1 menu with file help, etc. and it also has 1 control inside, 1 text area with with, height, etc.
So I know this can be done in Windows with the handler, I would like to know if there is a way to do this in JAVA and how.
There's a software called AutoIt, that has a small program called AutoIt v3 Window Info. This software shows the info I need, using the Finder Tool, but I need to make my own.
    Thanks for any reply.
    Daniel

    Not in Java.
You could possibly write some JNI that interfaces with the relevant MS Windows API,
but that is no longer Java.

  • Roaming Profile is roaming AppData\Local and AppData\LocalLow including Outlook OST file

    Hi everyone.
Well my problem with Roaming Profiles here is the AppData\Local and AppData\LocalLow directories are roaming when I believe they should not. I see these folders are kept from roaming by default within the policy. I am concerned
because within the Local directory are the OST files. Some are large and I do not want them to roam. I can trick the workstation and configure Outlook to Online mode only and that works but what about all the other directories within Local and LocalLow?
I suspect since we had XP previous to 7, the old folder structure may still be in effect somewhere but am not certain. Others I’ve spoken with have seen this behavior but I have not seen a solution quite yet.
    This post (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/1c618a22-b48a-43ca-81cc-64836c058207/appdatalocal-and-locallow-following-roaming-profile?forum=winserverGP) is close
to my problem but the reason it does not help me is I have created test new test users that have never had Windows XP and started out as new Win7 images. I placed the new users in a particular OU and applied a new folder redirection policy to that OU. There
is still a Default Domain Policy in effect for the entire forest but there is nothing in there (that I can see) redirecting any folders. The new policy I linked to the new OU redirects a few folders (music, pictures, desktop) to c:\temp so those do not roam.
Everything works fine except the AppData\local and AppData\LocalLow directories are roaming. The registry entry referenced in the above post shows everything to be fine, yet the
the AppData\local and AppData\LocalLow directories still roam.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
and under ExcludeProfileDirs, type REG_SZ, the value is
    AppData\Local;AppData\LocalLow;$Recycle.Bin
So now I am stuck. I will scour the Default Domain Policy again but quite frankly, there isn't much in there. Anyone have any other suggestions
as to what to look for in this case?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Based on your description, we can check Applications and Services Logs in Event Viewer to see if some related services got crashed.
Besides, we can install the following hotfix on a troubled computer to see if it can fix the issue.
The desktop does not load and only displays a black or blue background after you log on to a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

  • Is there any way to open an OST file for extraction of info?

Does the Offline Address Book download somewhere that you can check? Maybe that has the contact information you need.

So I've got a weird one...
Whole network kind of went down. Server crashed and the backups don't seem to have worked. A workstation crashed. We have the OST file from the workstation thankfully, but have no idea how to extract data. We honestly just need to get to the contacts.
Emails, calendars, etc. are not even desired. Just the contacts.
I hope someone can point us in the right direction of a free solution.

  • Using informations about the XML Data Set in *.js

    Dear Users,
I hope I am able to explane my problem correctly:
I wonna create a fade effect with various pictures. They don't should blend to 0 - I found a js script that lets the pictures fade from one to the other like this: www.sv-guenther.de
What this script needs is the number of pictures. I put the picture links into an XML file. Everything works as long as write the number or length of the picture children manually.
I tried to read out the length by using the ds_RowCount option. This works fine as long as I use this in HTML context like this:
    <div spry:region="ds1" ><script type="text/javascript">  alert({ds_RowCount});</script>{ds_RowCount}</div>
Both works: The alert shows the number 21 AND you can read the "21" and not {ds_RowCount}.
okay, but how do I use the "21" integer in a script block in the head area? like this:
    <head>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var x = {ds_RowCount};
    </script>
    </head>
I tried it in different ways: var x = '{ds_RowCount}'; or spry:....
As you can see: I am afraid my scripting knowledge is not the best - like my English is...
Sorry and thank you very much for your help! - any kind of help
    best regards from Bonn, Germany
    Thorsten

    Dear Ben,
if you would see me, you wouldn't laugh anymore, you would cry -) - but you are in DownUnder - this would look like I am laughing for you - wouldn't it?
Thank yoou so much for remembering me. I have been reading your post about this topic (blend a picture). Once somebody asked the same (or almost the same) like I did yesterday. But the difference is, that if you blend a text to 0 it is big diference blending a picture - in my mind. I would love to reduce the opacity from one picture when the next picture is already behind it. So it looks like a smooth fade in fade out, without displaying the background.
I found a quite good code example for this:HERE
To make it as easy as possible for me I tried to include the number of the pictures straight into the js code. in the meantime I found the correct code option for this: What I was looking for was: getData() and if I combine it with an observer to wait for the "onPostLoad" everything works fine. I am ashamed that I asked first and then lokked into the SPRY API - Sorry!
Everything works fine? No not yet - unfourtunally. So I am pleased to get the chance to ask a second time:
Let's say I have more than one picture and more than one topic. So my XML looks like this:

First I create an new object
    var ds1 = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("xml/leistungen.xml", "leistungen/inhalte/inhalt/texte");
So the  dsR =  ds1.getData() gives me a dsR.length = 8 - correct - because this XML has got 8 <texte> nodes. But some of these <texte> nodes have more than one <text> node. If I asked for the contet of the fifth node dsR[4]["text"] it gives me back "Bürogebäude" = the last sub node content. I wished I could catch the first, second, third as well. Just like a spry:repeat - do you understand?
I figured out that it doesn't help to extend the string like
    dsR[4][0]["text"] or dsR[4][0][0].
As far as I understood the Spry framework flattens the XML like a table. So I thought that there might be just in this raw, in the actual column just another object (not a string)  to be found. This object  I could touch or open with square brackets. Like
    dsR[0]["texte"][0]
    - but: I can't!
But this would mean, that straight in js I could always only catch the first node value??? I must be wrong!!!  But I don't know were!
Dear Ben, Dear Guys out there - is this to difficult what I am looking for or am I blind?
thank you so much for helping me out here - again!
