Usefull applescript apps for /Library/WebServer/Documents

I now publish to my the web server on my machine at home, I have given up with iDisk. It seems to work find with no-ip.com.
Anyway...
I seem to remember an applescript that could be attached to a folder action that would change the file format of all images dropped into that folder.
I was wondering if I attached this to /Library/WebServer/Documents as an 'AppleScript Folder Action' it would automatically convert the images to .jpg as iWeb published my pages to my own web server.
The advantages would be that I would not have to alter the iWeb file. Also thinking about it there can be a lot of modification done this way without hacking around with the saved iWeb file.
Also no need to do anything other than publishing the page to the folder.

Yes and no,
Yes, you can have AppleScript as Folder Actions script, that is when something is added to the folder, the script will carry out that action (the programmed script).
I was wondering if I attached this to
/Library/WebServer/Documents as an 'AppleScript
Folder Action' it would automatically convert the
images to .jpg as iWeb published my pages to my own
web server.
No, AppleScript may not be able to convert to/from some image formats to JPEGs. You may need some third party application for that, Graphic Converter is AppleScript friendly; or QT is another one.
The more important question is when you convert your images (PNG or whatever) to JPEGs, wouldn't that mess up you links?
Unless you rename ALL your converted JPEGs back to original (PNG or whatever) names.
Could you provide more infos? perhaps I can help.

  • How do I point Websites at the old /Library/Webserver/Documents? I've still got a lot of data there.

From much earlier versions of Mac OS, I had quite a bit of data cached in the then-standard folders /Library/Webserver/Documents and ~/Sites/.
What's the standard practice for dealing with those other folders when moving up to Server? I've got experimental installs of Joomla, Drupal, Groupware, and a Dokuwiki I would really hate to lose. The Alias command seemed the most appropriate way to point at those folders, but that didn't work at all.

Addendum: I may have found a solution that is quick (good), easy (good) and reveals a hideous and pernicious security hole within the OS X Server environment (bad).
    sudo ln -s /Library/Webserver/Documents/dokuwiki/ /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/Default/dokuwiki
I had that idea when I got into Terminal and did an ls -la in the /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/Default folder. Every default.html.xx was an alias to a localized default.html within the Server.Appl bundle itself.
On the one hand, this is very good in that it allows me to bypass all that Aliasing within the Server app itself.
On the other hand, this allows me to bypass all that Aliasing within the Server app. Did I just break the warranty?

  • Can't find "manual" folder in /Library/WebServer/Documents/

I am trying get MAMP working with the apache server on Mac OS X. But I can't seem to find the manual folder that should exist in /Library/WebServer/Documents/manual. Any one know why? Or where I can get a fresh download of the stuff that should be there?

They do not exist in the server DocumentRoot
    If you're running Apache2, the httpd.conf has a line:
    AliasMatch ^/manual(?:/(?:de|en|es|fr|ja|ko|pt-br|ru))?(/.*)?$ "/Library/WebServer/share/httpd/manual$1"
This essentially tells Apache to serve any request for /manual* from /Library/WebServer/share/httpd/manual which is where you'll find the docs you're asking about.
Since the alias exists, you can also visit http://ip.of.your.server/manual/

  • Can't open file "/Library/WebServer/Documents/index.html.en."

    Can’t open file “/Library/WebServer/Documents/index.html.en.”

You will never be able to open this file with iWeb, because, as it states it is a User/Sites/index.html file and iWeb cannot open this files - anything with html on the end of it is already published and iWeb cannot open this. It is not the same as your domain file.
Go to User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites and try opening your domain file, rather than something that is already published. iWeb cannot import - at least not published pages.

  • Are there any iPhone 4 Apps for viewing Numbers Documents?

I'm wondering if there is any apps for the iPhone 4 which will allow me to view/read Apple Numbers files/documents? I have one for the iPad but was wondering if there is something similar for the iPhone...
    Thanks in advance...

    Jasdelta,
As you can see the choices are many and varied. Read the reviews for additional advice. Choose a free App for evaluation. Then you can buy the upgrade if you are satisfied.
I have only added GPSLite, and GPS Drive to my mobile devices...both have the capability to enter Lat/Long.
Apple Maps is my preferred iOS Maps App. I use a Garmin Rhino out in the field, and a built in Nav system for my auto when on the road. If you are interested, Geocaching has an excellent App.

  • Automator/Applescript error for Library selection - workarounds ?

I am creating some Automator actions to simplfy my workflow, but do it in a way that suits me. eg.
Step 1. Copy CF images to Time Capsule (easy)
Step 2. Import CF images into Aperture doing the following:
    a. Import with option to create a new project (non-refd)
    b. Set ratings to 1.
    c. Set some IPTC data.
    d. Select some basic keywording
Bang ! - import it all
Seems and is reasonably easy, however two observations in the import to Aperture execution:
    - It runs very slowly (i might be able to live with this)
    - I often get an Applescript error and it seems linked to this old Apple doc asking me to add a 'Set Aperture Library" step in the Applescript ?! Huh ?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307040
Currently triggering both actions as Applications, but hope to sequentiall link them if i can get the solve for the error.
Q1. Can i 'fix' this error within Automator actions ?
Q2. Is it normal for the set rating and IPTC tagging to be glacial slow ?
Getting more impressed with Automator power, but it sometimes seems to be a little flakey (perhaps or its me!)
    Appreciate any pointers...

Scripts currently run v. slowly if you have a large library... submit a bug using the feedback form!

  • App for Editing PDF documents

I use PDF's in event planning and I was wondering what app is best to use to draw schematics over the PDF document and be able to email it out to all participants in the meeting at the conclusion.

There are a number of PDF apps which allow annotations, including drawing. I have iAnnotate PDF which has a very robust set of editing, annotating and drawing tools, and Expert PDF, which has a simpler interface. Both allow emailing PDFs.

  • Free app for Microsoft Word documents?

Is there a free app that will allow me to upload and view Microsoft Word documents. Ability to work on these documents would be great, but it is not necessary. Thanks!

    Hi hsjfaar,
Actually, you can view Microsoft Word documents, without using any additional application. All you need to have them attached to an e-mail and check out those attachments in Mail app.
In addition, you can choose to use this Lite version of an iPhone/iPod Touch application. Click [here|http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=2941508 96&mt=8].

  • Html documents in webServer/documents folder I can't open...

    Hi all,
For a while now I've been researching on how to use a mac as a webserver to host my sites.
I know that to get users to access sites fromt the server without having to use user folders I'll have to store my sites in the HDD's library/WebServer/Documents folder.
Well, having a look at this folder it is filled with some form of HTML documents, such as Index.html.en, Index.html.cn etc etc. I gather that these are different language variations of an index html document. However because of the html.en extension etc I can't seem to open the document in a web browser, I can open it in textedit and it confirms it is a html doc.
Why can this not be opened? do they need to be deleted and replaced with my own sites if I use my mac as a webserver?
    Thanks

    Hi--
Well, having a look at this folder it is filled with
some form of HTML documents, such as Index.html.en,
Index.html.cn etc etc. I gather that these are
different language variations of an index html
document. However because of the html.en extension
etc I can't seem to open the document in a web
browser, I can open it in textedit and it confirms it
    is a html doc.
You're right, these are localized language variations of the default Apache welcome page. You should be able to open them by dragging them to a web browser window. Apache doesn't server those pages out as a result of a direct request, but as the result of a content negotiation. In other words, if someone requests French pages, they'll get index.html.fr as a result. There's more information about it in the Apache docs on the subject.
    do they need to be
deleted and replaced with my own sites if I use my
    mac as a webserver?
You can delete them if you want. The one relating to the Apache manual is the symbolic link called "manual". If you want to be able to type http://localhost/manual/ into your browser to get the manual, I'd leave it.
One warning, though: sometimes, as a result of a software update from Apple, those files will all get placed there again (I don't think they'll overwrite existing files, however). I don't know how often that's happened recently, though, as I've done as Tim suggested in his post and moved all my web sites to their own folders and pretty much ignore the default one.

  • Modifying preinstalled items at library/WebServer

    Hi there,
I accidentally deleted a folder (can't remember what it was) in Macintosh HD's library/WebServer. The folder called CGI-executables is still there, but the second one isn't.
I am worried because I read this: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106984
It seems like it might affect future software updates...??
Apparently I am supposed to do this, according to the document: "If you have modified preinstalled items in the folder /Library/WebServer/Documents, you should back up the folder as a precaution before installing system software updates." How do I do the back up?
I am not computer savvy, so I would appreciate it if someone helped me out.

I accidentally deleted a folder (can't remember what it was) in Macintosh HD's library/WebServer. The folder called CGI-executables is still there, but the second one isn't.
    This folder is named Documents.
It seems like it might affect future software updates...??
Use Pacifist to extract that folder and its contents from your Mac OS X 10.4 installation disks, and then run the combo updater for your version of Mac OS X.
Apparently I am supposed to do this, according to the document: "If you have modified preinstalled items in the folder /Library/WebServer/Documents, you should back up the folder as a precaution before installing system software updates." How do I do the back up?
Drag the Documents folder to another location, such as the desktop or an external drive. If a green circle doesn't appear while dragging, press and hold the Option key until the mouse or trackpad button is released.

  • APP RUN Based on document type

    HI SAP Gurus.
While invoice posting(F-43/MIRO) User use Doc type KR & RE(may be different doc type instead of KR)..
Now he want run APP for only KR document type....
      Please give me solution......

    Hello-
In F110, after entering data in parameter tab in the next tab "additional fields" under selection criteria drop down where it says field name. A pop up box will show and here select "Document" and hit enter and it will list all the fields available for selection. You can choose document type and hit enter. It will now populate in the field name and for values enter what ever document type you want. In your case, enter KR and go to next tabs. By doing this, payment program will only pick documents that have the document type you entered. This way you can isolate payment runs by document type.
    Hope this helps.

  • Change Apache2 web root to something other than 'library/webserver/doc...'

I'd like to serve my websites from a folder within my Documents folder instead of 'Library/Webserver/Documents' but Apache won't open the files.
I'm trying to use /Users/rickcurran/Documents/Client_Data/ as the root but I just get the "You don't have permission to access / on this server." error message. I'm sure I've changed this before so I'm wondering if something changed with Leopard to lock this down or am I missing something really obvious?
I used to use a different root folder before installing Leopard but this was on an external firewire drive so perhaps the permissions didn't kick in under that setup?
Any ideas how to make this work?
    Thanks!
    Rick

  • My Pages app for iPad tells me I can't open a document and even iCloud won't let me download it to my Mac, how can I recover my document?

I really don't know what happened to Pages. First I was using the app, working on a document and everything was fine. I updated it a couple of times and there was no problem. Then, when I tried to open it once more snd continue to work with it, a message appeared telling me that the document had been modified in other iPad. Usually this would make sense but not this time because this file was only used on my iPad. So I chose to keep the document version created on my iPad and **** got loose since then. The document could't open, every time I tried, a message told me "The file cannot be open", so I read A LOT of what to do in this horrible case and tried to open it via iTunes but the option withbthe little arrow that usually works for send the file via e-mail, or to dropbox, or to print appear like I can't use it for anything so most of my options and hopes died. Then on a Mac I tried to dowñoad the file to see if there I could open it or at least change the file code from .pages to .zip and then unzip it but I can't even dowload it form iCloud so you see, I'm desperate. I need help, please! The document is very very important so could you tell me how can I recover it?

Having the same issue, can someone please enlighten us?

  • Does anyone know of an e-reader app for the iphone that has text to speech capability? I have a Kindle 3G that can read whole pdf documents and books but I cannot figure out how to do it on my iphone 4.

Does anyone know of an e-reader app for the iphone that has text to speech capability? I have a Kindle 3G that can read whole pdf documents and books but I cannot figure out how to do it on my iphone 4.
All of the apps I have found on the App store either do not have the text to speech capability or if they have it they will only read a page at a time or simply read the text you paste into their window. I really do not understand what is so difficult about having this feature as Kindle provides it--though Amazon does not make the feature available on its iPhone 4 app.
    Please help.

thanks. yes i am aware of the VoiceOver feature but it is NOT the solution to my problem. as you said, it is a solution to a different set of issues. i want the text to speech ability because i there are books i need to read but do not have the time to sit down and read them and have become used to listening to them read to me either by a professional human reader or with the text to speech software on the Kindle.
I think Apple makes the best audio devices but i am really disappointed in this inexplainable shortcoming. if apple can give us siri they ought to be able to design a nice little button that i can push to turn on text to speech while i am in a document, book, magazine or webpage. clearly it is possible as apple has added the "reader" button in safari to have web pages dropped into the reader format.
thanks for your suggestion though, it is what everyone suggests but it does not address the issue.
