Useing NIK plugins in PSDCC
I am a new CC user and own the NIK collection, how do I get them intigrated with my new PSDCC
so I can access them via Photoshop as I did before.

1. Make sure all versions of Photoshop are closed.
2. Run the Nik Collection installer from the file you received via email and downloaded. If you no longer have this file, you may email customer support ([email protected]) to have the file sent to you again.
3. During the installation process when you get to the Host Application window, you will notice a plus sign to add an install location. Click that button and navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CC\Plug-Ins\.
4. Complete the installation, then open Photoshop CC to ensure that the plug-ins have successfully been installed.
Macintosh:
1. Make sure all versions of Photoshop are closed.
2. Run the Nik Collection installer from the file you received via email and downloaded. If you no longer have this file, you may email customer support ([email protected]) to have the file sent to you again.
3. During the installation process when you get to the Host Application window, you will notice a plus sign to add an install location. Click that button and navigate to Mac HD|Applications|Adobe Photoshop CC|Plug-Ins and paste the Google folder into this location.
4. Complete the installation, then open Photoshop CC to ensure that the plug-ins have successfully been installed.

Issue with re-importing images after using Nik plugins
Currently, when images are edited in a Nik plug-in and saved back to Aperture, the project folder the image originated in is changed from being organized by "date" to "manual" and then that image is inserted as the first image in that folder. In past versions of Aperture, the image would be placed back into the project folder by date. At the very least I would like to have the control on where that image is placed. And my selection of how that project folder is organized should NEVER change unless asked.
Is there some hidden setting that can change this behavior?
KenUnfortunately, this issue was with some of the last versions of Snow Leopard as well. Oh, and for clarification, this happens with HDR efex. Others have commented that the Nik plugin is designed to work this way. Maybe, but I would like a choice where the image is returned. I believe it is a NIk issue but they won't admit it.
I did try your suggestion, but no luck. This image changed the project folder organization to "manual" and put the image first.

Hi all,
a lot was said already about problems with using Nik plugins in PS5 64 bit mode, but I'm not getting closer to a final solution.
I have installed all latest NIK plugin updates without problems.
According to their website all of their plugins are running now in a 64 bit mode.
In CS4 I can open and work with all plugins, BUT ONLY after removing the 'Selective Tool' from the plugin folder.
When it is not removed, PS4 is crashing all the time immediately after opening.
In Dfine plugin I noticed that my pointer is always a bit flickering during processing.
In CS5 it is the same; if the Selective tool is in the Plugin folder, it won't opening.
After removing it, in 32 bit mode I can open and work with all installed plugins.
But in 64 bit mode I'm able to work only with Silver Efex and HDR Efex Pro, but as soon I open Dfine, Sharpener, Viveza or Color Efex CS5 is crashing immediately.
I'm running a Mac pro with plenty power, ram etc, all updated and cleaned up.
What is other people's latest experience regarding that issue?

here I like to give you an update on my experience with NIK Plugins.
After beeing unable to solve my NIK problems by myself and in the forum I was contacting NIK, and their respons email told me only the following:
"In case of experiencing problems with their plugins in 64 bit mode remove all Duplicate Ariel Fonts"
Since I read about that already earlier, that reason had been ruled out.
BUT I got the idea simply to remove all my Arial Fonts from my Library (to the Desktop), and surprisingly ALL NIK plugins now were functioning without bringing CS5 to crash at start-up.
Unfortunately over the last days, especially on working with big file size pictures (around 200 MB) and plenty layers, CS5 crashed again often after initializing of the plugins.
Than I read today the post from Grey Havens, who suggested to set the percentage of RAM what Photoshop should use to maximal 60%.
Since I do have 14 GB RAM available, I indeed reduced the settings from 85% to 65%.
2 of my 3 internal HD's are assigned as scratch disk, as recommended by Adobe.
Thanks Grey, as you described, all plugins are opening now very fast, and I just tried all applications with big files, many layers and CMYK files,
without having any crash so far anymore.
If this continues, than I dont have to use my CS4 or the CS5 in 32 bit mode anymore, which would make all easier for me.
Than it also doesn't matter that Photoshop has less RAM assigned, because in 64 bit mode the almost 9 GB RAM assigned is for me more than enough.
So what worked for me, might work also for other people with same problems:
--- I had to remove the 'Selective Tool' from all plugins in CS4 and in CS5
--- I had to remove all Arial Fonts from my Font Library
--- I set in Preferences Performance the 'Let Photoshop Use RAM' to 65% only

@I run a Windows 8.1 - Photoshop CS5 under Parallels on an iMac one year old and both having the latest OS. I use a NIK plugin "VIVEZA" which run fine for years without a problem. Latelt and without a reason, the NIK plugin has gone corrupt, (can not use it more the 2 corrections after a get a black background message that there is not enough memory) and the system stops running and a must restart is required. How do I fix this terrible problem?
If it requires a Photoshop CS5 re-install, (I belief that it may fix the problem) and re-install the two third party plugins (NIK Viveza) and (Onone Perfect Resize) how and where do I get to the proper Adobe upload page to do that.
I have tried to fix this problem by changing the memory allocations, I have spend many hours on it and are very disgusted with it but it needs to be fixed. The current memory settings are;
Ram available = 1588 MB
Range = 873 -1143 MB
Recommended Photoshop usage range = 857 however I have tried every setting to max and in between. Nothing works. Current setting = 1588 (max)
The Photoshop I use is registered, I have product # and order # .Contact NIK for updated/upgraded versions of their plug-ins. They have been having a lot of issues with their plug-ins.

Aperture 3.2.3 and NIK plugins. I use several of these plugins. Recently, and intermittently, the edited image fails to update in the viewer until Aperture is quit and re-launched, even though it is updated in the browser strip. I have assumed the NIK software must be working because the problem occurs from time to time regardless of which one is used. Is there some explanation?

Not sure why Apple has not fixed this one yet. It is consistent with NIK plug-ins as well as Photoshop (CS5 and CS6).

I use Nik soft ware plugins the HDR Efex Pro2 when i save the photo to aperture i have to close aperture and reopen it befor i can view the photo works fine after that. Any help would be great thanks

I bought the Nik Collection back when you got separate serials for each plugin.
I upgraded to Photoshop CC, and can't install two of the plugins. (D-fine and Sharpener). The others work, but those two don't give me the option of picking Photoshop CC. With the others, there's a plus sign that lets me add CC manually.
I tried downloading the current demo version of the Nik Collection, hoping it would accept my old serials, but it doesn't.
The Nik plugins themselves haven't changed (still the same versions as when I bought them, as far as I can tell), so having to buy the package all over again isn't very appealing.
Yes, I've sent an e-mail to Google about this, but based on past experience, there's a good chance I'll grow old and die before I get anything useful from them.
Anyone else have this problem, and if so, is there a solution?A follow-up, just in case anyone else is having this problem.
I e-mailed tech support, and Google actually got back to me fairly quickly. They gave me a free upgrade to the current version of the Nik Collection, which recognizes Photoshop CC.
This offer holds for all previous buyers of the Nik Photoshop plugins. They no longer user serial numbers. Instead, they activate it from their end. Just e-mail them. -
Photoshop CC crash when using Nik Collection
I have been using Lightroom 5 and Nik Collections plugins successfully for a while and just got Photoshop CC.
Unfortunately Photoshop CC crash when I save my work that I have done in ColorEfex Pro 4 or SilverEfex Pro 2.
The other plugins in the Nik Collection works fine, I work with TIFF and layers. My work flow is that I do some basic work in Lightroom then "Edit in...PS". From PS I use the Nik plugins, normally I'd do Dfine, Sharpner and then SilverEfex or ColorEfex. The crash happens when I get back to PS after saving my work and that last layer is never created and all my work is lost.
I would be grateful for any help. Below is the data from my system. Thanks !

Installed TWAIN devices: NONEThe solution in my case when I posted this was to contact Google who sent me files that disabled the GPU, updating the driver didn't do the trick. The crashes stopped when the GPU was disabled but Nik was painfully slow.
No I have a new machine with a more powerful GPU and everything worked fine for a while then Colour Efex started to crash when I opened it in PS. Google gave me a link to AMD where I got the latest driver and now I think it's working again, I'm not sure because I have not done much work lately.
Bottom line....Nik seems to require a pretty powerful machine both when it comes to RAM and GPU.

Aperture crashes when using NIK Plug-In
I have a Mac Pro 2008 8-core 2.8 with 16 GB ram and the ATI HD 5870.
Sometimes in Aperture 3 (newest update) when using NIK plug-in colorefex pro 4 it crashes.
It only crashes when performing certain tasks, like certain recipes. Or more often when I try to edit multiple images at once with the plug-in.
The plug-in works fine with PS, but you can not edit mulitple images at a time.
As per NIK's suggestion, I deleted any duplicate arial fonts but it hasn't helped.

If the upgrade to 3.2.2. does not resolve your problem, try if running Aperture in 32bit mode will help.
I am not entirely sure if duplicate fonts might cause the problem - the last crash with nik plug-ins reported in this forum that were related to duplicate Arial fonts (Re: Nik Plugin Crash Issues) was with the viveza plug-in, not with the colorefex plug-in, also the crash occured when selecting the plug-in from the menu "Performing @selector(a_editWithPlugIn:) from sender NSMenuItem", not with a bad access when addressing the graphics card.

So your problem might be related to the ATIRadeonX3000GLDriver; maybe the plugin is still using an old Snow Leopard version, that may be incompatible with Lion?

Batch process using Nik Software - is it possible?
Hi,
I'm using Nik Software (plug-ins) with Aperture and was wondering if there was any way to do a batch change? For example if I have to reduce the noise using Define2.0 and I have a profile I would like to use already, is there a faster way to process a set of pictures altogether rather than one by one (which I currently do now)? I've tried selecting multiple ones and opening it in Define2.0 but it seems that unless I view each picture in Define2.0 then some pictures still remain unprocessed.

Walter ...If you have the most up to date version of the Nik plugins, you can batch just as you are explaining. Simply select a handful of images and right click>edit with>Define, Viveza, Silver Efex Pro, etc.
You do have a powerful graphic card to do this smoothly.

Nik plugin and 3 weird problem
I know about the 32bit issue with the nik plugins but when I try and use any of the nik plugins I get an error message"Editing Error this message cannot be rendered for editing becuase Aperture does not support the image"
The images are Nikon RAW work fine with A3 in 32 or 64 bit mode, but with none of the Nik software. Nik support says it is an Apple problem but can not find anywhere but here to find a solution. Anyone have any idea what is going on ?
I have tried in 64 bit with it switching 32bit and also forcing it to 32bit mode in get info.
johna friend of mine is having similar problem with a BorderFX plugin. initially we thought because of 32-bit plugin but after upgrading to 64-bit version, A3 still wouldn't render preview from the images manipulated from the plugin. have tried turning off the generating preview option from A3 preference?
it might reset the A3 preview setting. -
CS4 hang after using Nik Sharpener - on Snow Leopard
Hello everyone,
coming from Windows to MAC - to avoid trouble - I see it is not trouble free ... ?? While using the Nik Complete collection filters, all filters work fine with CS4 - except Nik Sharpener. It looks to me that the Filter works OK, one can use it with its user interface and after hitting " Execute" the filters works and needs to give the results to CS4 .... <--- this step does not work. It takes a while and then CS4 does not react anymore and I must kill the process. I tried this with some of my pictures, it is NOT related to the size of t files . The hang comes with small files as well as with big files. I can - sometimes - use it and it works fine, but this is only in rare cases. Theres is no difference wetherI tun other programs like Bridge or Capture One at the same time or not - CS4 hangs come in any case.
Has anyone observed the same issues and knows what the root cause might be? Adobe support sent me a list what I should do. I tried some things, but I'm new on MAC and do not know the OS that good . I'm not able to follow all these steps. The Mac is a Mac Pro with 10 GB RAM. There should not be an issue with the RAM for CS4. The OS is Snow Leopard with the newest patches. Technically the Mac has no hardware issues or any other strange behavior - its is only this point that does not work

I have the newest version downloaded incl. all available patches. But I will in addition to this post this question as well to NIK support, because I cannot see where this hang starts to happen - still in t plugin or already in CS4 . Nevertheless, I assume tis should be based on any configuration because CS4 is a mature software and the Sharpener plugin also --- such basic bugs should no more be available - is my assumption. Therefore I thought someone might have had the same issue and knows the solution.

NIK Plugins and window position
Hi folks,
i installed the NIK Plugin Suite. Everythings works fine until i open let's say color efex pro. The menubar goes behind the aperture menubar and i'm not able to click on it to resize color efex.
resize is only possible dragging the lower right corner to minimize color efex.
After restarting it it's centered on the screen but to small to use it. Resizing it is now possible but after a new start the same thing again. Menubar is covered by the aperture menubar.
btw: i resintalled color efex pro several times. even did an aperture reinstall....No success
The same strange behavior when i'm running silver efex or viveza. What's going on here?
Didn't have any problems with a previous installation.
I use the latest version of aperture (2.1.2) and osx 10.5.6 and the latetst version of the NIK plugins
Any suggestions?

frankHad the same thing happen to me. Asked Nik Software. This is their reply:
+To correct this issue go to the following location on your Mac:+
+Macintosh HD | Users | <your user name> | Library | Preferences+
+Find the file called, com.niksoftware.sep.aperture_edit.prefs+
+Do a control + click to the file and click open With >Other… and then choose the TextEdit application.+
+In TextEdit, for DialogX= and DialogY= change the numbers to 20. So it will say DialogX=20 and DialogY=20 for example. Then for DialogWidth= change to 800 and for DialogHeight= change to 600. Now save this file and close it.+
+Next open the file, com.niksoftware.cep3Complete.aperture_edit.prefs and do the same thing as above.+
+Now reopen Aperture and select an image, then bring up Silver Efex Pro or Color Efex Pro 3.0 to see if that corrects the issue. If you still cannot resize it, go back and change the number to another higher or lower value until you can see the title bar.+
It may be that there is a better solution. In my case once I made the correction I can now deal with it. In my case I use a second monitor. When I start any of the Nik plugins the top right part of the window including the window bar overlaps into the external monitor. I can grab it there and move it to the larger external monitor and resize it.
This pretty darn annoying and I was hoping that Nik would make the necessary changes. Especially given no one else seems to have the issue and that the plugins are not cheap. They very useful though.

Problem With Nik Plugins and Lightroom 4.3
I bought a Drobo Mini and moved my photos and my Lightroom Catalog onto it. The reason I did this was because I just bought a MacBook Pro laptop to supplement my Mac Pro Desktop and I wanted to be able to use both computers with the Drobo Mini and not have to constantly be importing Catalogs back and forth. This was a solution that Tim Grey recommended. The advantage is I can take the Drobo Mini with me on the road and add my new photos directly to the Catalog when I'm traveling, and then when I get home, I can just hook up the Drobo Mini to the Mac Pro Desktop and continue with my work. The problem I've encountered is with my Nik plugins Color Efex Pro 4 and Silver Efex Pro 2. On the new computer everything works fine. On the desktop computer I can't go directly from Lightroom into Color Efex Pro 4 or Silver Efex Pro 2 for the new photos initially downloaded from the new computer. For all my photos downloaded through the old computer, both computers work fine. Only the new computer works with the Nik Filters for the new photos. Also, if I go over to Photoshop from Lightroom, the new photos won't let me just hit "Save" and exit Photoshop. Instead, I have to designate a location for the "Save" as if I was doing a "Save As" and then it doesn't show up in Lightroom unless I import it again. I'm trying to get some answers from Nik but I thought maybe someone on this forum might know what is causing this problem?? Any help greatly appreciated.

Upgrade Dramas 3.4.5 - NIK Plugins
Hi,
Had the usual upgrade to Aperture 3.4.5 dramas and sorted it out with a reinstall and some swearing. Then my NIK plugins got knocked out. NIK were kind enough to link me to the full new suite. Guess what? They all crash. BOOOO!!!
Still waiting on word from them, anyone with similar dramas?
I'm more of a hobbyist so I'm not sitting on dealine jobs, but still quite frustrated.

Thank you for contacting Nik Software. HDR Efex Pro 2 and Color Efex Pro 4 take advantage of the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) of the computer system. The GPU is also sometimes referred to as the Display Adapter or Video Card, in any case they are all the same. Sometimes certain video cards will not handle this additional processing.
In order to resolve this, the first measure would be to update the Display Adapters or GPU driver. Generally the video card that comes with your Mac will be updated automatically. The exception may be when there has been an additional video card added. In that case the user may need to go to the video card manufacturer's website to download an updated driver for their secondary GPU. If you are using Mac OS Snow Leopard (10.6) ensure to update to 10.6.6 or higher as this can affect performance. If this does not apply to you, please go to the next section below.
If after following the above steps you are still experiencing the same issue, the next step will be to either disable the GPU (if possible) or force the plug-ins to not use the GPU (safe-mode). In order to disable the GPU in the plug-ins, please do the following in each one:
If you are able to open the program and can see part of the interface, see if you can click on the"Settings" button in the lower left.
In Settings locate the section "GPU" and expand it, in this section you will see a check box "Enable GPU Processing", uncheck this so the GPU will be disabled, then close the settings window.
Close out of the program (click Cancel), quit out of any and all host applications (Photoshop, Lightroom, Aperture), and then relaunch HDR Efex Pro 2 or Color Efex Pro 4 to see if this corrects this issue.
If you are unable to disable the GPU via Settings or if the issue has not been resolved (e.g. HDR Efex Pro 2 or Color Efex Pro 4 crashes or the buttons are not displaying correctly), please try the following steps below after quitting out of all host applications (Photoshop, Lightroom, Aperture):
Open a finder window (or double click on the Macintosh HD on the desktop) and navigate to:
Macintosh HD : Users : <user name> : Library :Preferences : Nik Software : HDR Efex Pro 2
Locate the file, HDREfexPro2.cfg and right-click and choose "open with..." and then click "Choose" and then locate the applications, "TextEdit" to open this file.

Navigate to your Applications folder and open your Font Book as seen below.
2. Scroll up to the Arial fonts (A), select the drop down triangle to view it's contents (B).
3.Select any duplicates, hold your mouse over them to check their path(C).
4.Any fonts located in the "Path: Library/Fonts/'name of arial font" should be kept (such as the example above).
5.Duplicate fonts in any other location, such as the example below, should be removed by right-clicking (or control-clicking) and selecting "Remove 'Font Name'".
Examples of incorrect locations that should be removed are:
-Path: Users/ 'username'/Library /Fonts
-Path: Library/Fonts/Microsoft
6. Please repeat this process for all 'Arial' font duplicates, such as Arial Black, Arial Hebrew, etc.
7.Once all duplicate Arial fonts have been removed, please quit font book and restart your system.
If the crashing continues, then please let me know which of the plug-ins cause Aperture to crash. Is it all six, or is it just a few of them? This information will be helpful to continue troubleshooting.
