Useless Pantech Crux

I have been all over Verizons website trying to find a link to the "live chat" forum so I can try to get some help in real time. Several friends told me that it's better to talk to someone online than in person in a store or even over the phone because for some reason the online support is supposed to have more options available to help!? Don't know if this is true because I can't find any way to access this!
Now as for the Pantech Crux, it has been the most frustrating phone I have ever used! Shuts itself off whenever it feels like, says it is powering down occasionally and tells me I should use a certified Pantech battery as it counts down to turning off, so I plug in the charger and 1-3 minutes later it says it is done charging and to unplug it to conserve energy! Drops calls and shuts off and then when I power it on again it shuts off again as soon as I press send to call my poor friend back who got hung up on! Screen is always just going black, and can't usually check my voicemail because the screen goes black as soon as I make a call even though I changed the setting to keep it lit as long as possible!
I have only had this phone since August! What can I do about this??? Should I take it into a store?
If a Verizon employee can help with this I would really appreciate it!

I have a Crux and it doesn't do any of the stuff you describe.
There may be issues with your specific phone you should go into a vzw store and see if they can fix it or give you a new one IMO.

  • Duplicate Text Messages - Pantech Crux

Hello, I began receiving duplicate text messages once I upgraded to a Pantech Crux.  The duplicates are not labeled *duplicate message* like others, rather they are just received about 30 seconds after the original.
This happens regardless of sender but does not always happen.  It will also happen regardless of whether or not I read the first message before the duplicate arrives.
Is there any solution to this?  Will I be charged for all the duplicates?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Brandon

Are you still receiving duplicate txt msgs? I've been having the same issue since May and I keep getting the run around. My husband and I have the same phones and first they told me they had to do a "network" update that was supposed to take place on June 27. I've still been receiving them. I called again last friday and the gentleman from tech support told me to do a device software update on my phone. I did that and I'm still getting double txts! Very frustrating!!! I've called around 7-8 times! Not getting anywhere with my problem! During the month of July I had gone over my txt limit and the lady I talked to gave me a higher text package and wasn't going to charge me the difference. But when she did that she canceled my text messaging package and I got billed $180 for text messaging! Not very happy with Verizon right now! We are debating if we should cancel our service thru them and go to another company!
    jmm823,
I definitely understand your frustrations and would like to assist with correcting this for you!  Our Product Development Team is aware of the issue and are working diligently to provide a permanent fix.  In the meantime, I would be happy to review your account and correct the text package and billing for you.  We definitely do not want you to have to consider leaving Verizon Wireless!  I will send you a message, and you can reply with the requested information.
Thank you again for your patience, and for choosing Verizon Wireless!

  • Pantech Crux not receiving text message but able to send text messages

My daughter has a Pantech Crux phone. and yesterday we noticed that she was not gettng any text messages. We tried the *228 update and turned phone off, while phone was on we took out battery then put it back in and powered on the phone and she was still unable to receive any text messages so we shut down her phone then took the battery out waited a minute and then powered it back on and she is still not able to receive text messages. she can send text messages & she can call out and receive phone calls but she can still not receive any text messages!! any suggestions we can do to get this fixed?? she is not eligable for a upgrade until April 2013 she will have had this phone a year in about 10 days. will they replace her phone under warranty where it has not been a year but almost by a week or two. We also did purchase the Insurance for the phone as well.
Any help from anyone to help me on what I can do to get this fixed.
    Thanks

I am having the same issue with my daughters phones.  I believe its an issue with Pantech.  My daughter has a Pantech Crux and is able to make calls, receive calls, and send text messages but she is not able to receive any messages.  My other daughter has a Pantech Hotshot and is having the exact same issue. We contacted Verizon and went through all of the troubleshooting necessary and even reset the phone and it still didn't work.  Verizon sent out a replacement phone today (Crux) and the issue is still not resolved.  This tells me it's an issue with Pantech... maybe a software update was done?? Both of my daughters are teenagers and mainly communicate through text messaging, so I am sure anyone can understand that they are in crisis LOL.  Any suggestions on what to do next?

  • Pantech Crux cannot send picture messages

My Pantech Crux takes pictures, saves them to the memory card, but "fails" when I try to send a picture message.  I tried saving pics to the phone, but it says its full, but its not.  any suggestions?

A soft reset may resolve your picture messaging concerns. Remove the battery with phone ON. Re-insert the battery after 10 seconds and power phone ON. Allow phone to register applications.
If a soft reset does not resolve your picture messaging concerns, try re-programming the phone. Dial *228 + send, and select option 1. Allow phone to complete programming.
Additionally, ensure that your picture messaging feature is not blocked. You can block/unblock this feature online if you log in to your My Verizon account. If you are a secondary line in a Family Share plan only the account owner has the privilege to make this change. See instructions below:
    Login to My Verizon.
    Go to "My Plan."
    Select "Add/change features."
Select mobile number from drop down.
    Click "Continue."
Select the features you wish to add/change.

  • Pantech Crux Problem

I purchased the Pantech Crux but as soon as I got it, I've been having problems with my messaging. I'm always getting my texts late. For example, if someone texts me, I get it up to 3 hours later. Can some one help?

    csh wrote:
I have the exact same problem with my phone. When I've reported it to Verizon, they do the *228 and it starts working again. The problem is, it doesn't matter how frequently I do that update, there is no rhyme or reason to when I stop getting text messages. Example, last week, a family member sent me a text message on a Thursday evening and I did not know until Saturday when I was waiting for a text message from someone, at which time I turned my phone off and back on again, just in CASE it was in the middle of a texting issue again, and then about 8 messages came flooding in, from as early as Thursday evening.
I'm partially deaf. I don't talk on the phone much, but I do have a voice plan, with the additional texting. I primarily use my phone as a means of communicating things to family members. I RELY on the texting to be working properly, all the time. I have ONLY had this problem with the Pantech Crux, I have NEVER had this problem with the LG Env or Env 2 or any other LG product that I owned. I feel that this problem is specific to the hardware, not to the Verizon network, especially since powering the phone off and then back on again is what fixes it.
Verizon, insists that Pantech wants a bunch of questions answered by the user, specifics of when it happens, and if it's every 3rd message, or every 20th message. It is sporadic, there is literally no rhyme or reason.
Thanks to the community for your responses.  Thanks for posting. I understand how this can be frustrating. In order to resolve your issue please PM me your mobile telephone number so I can research your account and see what kind of options we have for you? Thanks.

  • Re: Pantech Crux double text messages

My phone (pantech crux) has the same software version as you state above, and has the problem with double text messages.
It also forgets calendar reminders when the power is cycled. The screen sometimes flashes back off when unlocking the front cover. There are simply software issues since everyone is trying to make the new phone quckly instead of making the new phone correctly... and apparently not following up with software updates either.
I don't blame pantech, I blame the verizon base software. My last verizon phone also had calendar reminder issues, the alarms time gets updated at the same time the daylight savings time does (making you an hour off)... and I expect the same from this phone.
I got the phone new on 24JUL2011 (2mos old) and it's had these issues from day one - the last phone I had for ~3 years.

    djs2571,
I do understand your frustrations and concerns with the Pantech Crux issues!  I would be happy to further assist.
Can you tell me what software version is installed on your Crux?  Check by going to Settings (from Home Screen) > Phone Info > Then tap SW/HW Version.  Just to advise you, our Product Team is aware of the issues and are working diligently to provide our customers a permanent fix.
Looking forward to hearing back from you with the version number.

  • Pantech Crux double text messages

I just got the Pantech Crux and everything's great except that I often get double text messages (get the first, then a few seconds later get the same message again).  I'm always in good service areas when it happens and it appears to be random.  I contacted Verizon and they suggested a soft reset of the phone (take the battery out, put it back in after a little bit), and that didn't rectify the situation.  Looking through reviews of the phone, it seems to be a common problem.  Since I'm only on the 250 messages plan (and don't really have a need to go up), and since these duplicates count towards my 250, I'd strongly like to find out how to fix this.  Does anybody know anything on the subject?  Thanks.

    Try these steps:
From the main menu screen tap Settings
    Tap Phone Info
    Tap Software Update
    Tap Check New
Power the phone off, then remove the battery for 1 minute, then put the battery back in.
Then power the phone back on and dial *228 send and option 1 on the phone.

  • Voicemail Notificaton - Pantech Crux

I just got my Pantech Crux and all is working fine, except that I am not getting a voicemail notification on my phone when someone leaves me a voicemail. I do not have the visual voicemail, just the regular voicemail. Is there something I need to program in order to receive an icon, or anything when I get a new voicemail?
Also, while I am thinking about it..There is no way to turn down (or off) the keytone volume when I am texting is there? I saw where I can turn off the volume completely on the entire touch screen, but I would rather leave all sounds on except for when I am typing out a text if at all possible
Thank you for any help you can provide
    HC

I can help with both concerns but the first one (your voicemail message waiting indicator) is something that I'll need to look at your account to fix. Let's just fix both offline, okay? Can you please send me a personal message with your mobile number? Thanks!

  • Need Help With Pantech Crux Touch Screen

I don't know if this is the right forum, 95% of the forums seem to be for billing or arbitray things. So, if this isn't please refer me to the correct place for this post.
I have had a Pantech Crux for about 6 months now. About three months ago, the touchscreen stopped working. A section right in the middle refused to allow me to press it. If you were looking at the keyboard, it is the RTYGH section of the phone. It clicks way off to the right, or refuses to click at all. Now, 3 months ago a friend made a suggestion that I wait until the battery died and just restarted. Once I did this, it worked fine, and I chocked the issue up to software.
Now, it has been plaguing me for three weeks, I have let my phone uncharge to zero, erased the entire thing and set the phone to factory settings, I have attempted to clean the screen using certified safe cleaner, all to no avail. What I need to know, from anyone, is A) is this a possible software fix that I can fix? B) if the screen is broken, how much am I looking at to get it fixed?
Honestly, I am beginning to think the pantech curx being listed at near 300.00 without a 2 year warranty is ludicrous and borderline highway robbery. I've enjoyed this phone for the last three months, but if this keeps up the temptation to literally rip it in half and go get a NET10 phone will be too much to withstand. Honestly, I can't text,  I can't use the calculator, or any programs. Any and all help would be most appreciated.

    Hi lpseudonyml,
I am sorry to learn that your phone is not working properly; I would be frustrated if I had the issues outlined on your post with my phone. Since you have already done several troubleshooting steps including a factory reset, I would consider replacing the phone. The best part is that your phone is only 6 months and is still within the one year manufacturers warranty and can be replaced at no cost to you. Please keep in mind that if phone has sustained liquid damage or physical damage the warranty is voided and phone cannot be replaced for free by the warranty program. For details on processing your warranty replacement please visit the link below:
    Certified Like-New Replacement Warranty Program
If your phone does not qualify for a warranty replacement due to liquid or physical damage you can get a Certified Pre-Owned phone at a discounted price. Please visit link below for details:

  • Looking for .pdf viewer for pantech crux?

Any one know any safe third party sites for brew mp apps that work on the crux? Thanks

I googled BREW apps, pdf viewer - several links to explore. Most were for smartphones and Samsung though - I don't know if you are able to load third party apps on a Crux?

  • Looking for game recommendations (Pantech Crux)

So, I'd love to have a game or two available for times when I've got a bit of time to kill. I'd prefer some sort of puzzle game.
I bought mahjong... and I can't believe how bad it is. I played it for about a minute, and I doubt I'll even bother opening it up again. I should have just used that $7 to light my fireplace or something - it would have at least been somewhat useful. I didn't expect the quality of games on my Crux to be anywhere near what I get on my iPod touch 4, but I was hoping for something at least passable. The game itself is ridiculously tiny because screen real estate is taken up by the silly D-pad controls. It's incredibly tedious having to use the D-pad control to move a cursor: up-up-up-left-left-left... I'm almost to the tile that I want, then it snaps to some other one that I didn't want.
So, are there any games that I can get for the Crux that actually use the touch screen the way they should? (Not just turning my touch screen into a virtual version of some crappy phone from a decade ago).
    Thanks!

So, are there any games for the Crux that will actually use the touch screen properly (puzzle, or anything at all)?? Anyone with a Crux have any games that work well?

  • Pantech Crux microphone fail

Has anyone had experience with the microphone failing during conversations?   We have two Crux phones on our family plan. One of them had this happen quite frequently so we took it to Verizon and they sent out a replacement which arrived 3 days ago. Today we had calls on both of the different  CRUX phones where the microphone died mid-conversation. Basically, we are having a conversation, and then the caller on the other line can't hear us anymore, but we can still hear them. Have any other users had this issue and found a solution?
We have checked the mute button to make sure that wasn't activated by accident and that has never been the case. We have tried turning the mute button on and off to get the microphone back on as well as push the "noise free" button on the screen. Slightly annoying when 1 out of 5 calls effectively dies because of this feature.

    Hello MCNwakeboard,
This is definitely a unique problem. Are you using any type of earpiece when this happens? Check to make sure that bluetooth is turned off on the device? In some cases, I've seen when the device tries to auto-pair with a nearby bluetooth device & the audio goes out. Also, try pulling the battery out while the device is powered on. Wait about 60 seconds & reinsert the battery. Update the prl by dialing *228 & send. Once the call connects, select option 2 to update the prl. Retry your audio on the device & see if the experience gets better.
    Hope this helps...

From everyone who texts me even other Verizon numbers and I got a replacement and its still doing that

  • My complaints about VZW's lack of good "feature" phones

In an effort to save on my wireless bill (college kids have to do that) I have moved from my beloved LG Ally to a KIN TWOm. Upon seeing  the selection of  "feature" phones that VZW offers, I was left with an empty feeling. Verizon has to have the worst selection of "feature" or "quick messaging" phones in the business. Gone are the glory days of the ENv Touch, Rogue, Chocolate Touch (piece of crap really), and Reality (still found in some stores). Now we (the customer) are stuck with offerings like the Cosmos Touch and the Pantech Crux as well as the KINs. As far as the Cosmos and Crux is concerned, they are far from enticing. So is the once overly hyped KIN series the only appealing decives they offer for those looking to save? Looks that way.
Let's take a look at what competitors like ATT and T Mobile have to offer (I use them as they are now, technically, "bigger" than VZW). ATT has a spectacular selection within their "quick messaging" phones. Some of those that shine brightest are the LG Vu Plus, Samsung Eternity II, Samsung Solstice, HTC Freestyle, and the Pantech Laser (among others). All of these phones offer a
resistive touch screen or better, as well as, at the least, a 2mp camera. All of them also come with some type of social network integration. The Samsung also include an intuitive display that allows you to place widgets on up to three homescreens. The Freestyle provides a smartphone experience without the data package price, and the Laser is acclaimed as the thinnest sliding phone ever.
T Mobile has the Samsung Gravity T, t249, t359 and  Nokia Nuron (these stick out to me most). The t249 and t359 aren't touch screen phones, but they have clean interfaces and social networking integration. The Gravity has a 2mp camera, good color choices, and a great OS. The Nuron isn't the greatest phone, but it offers a capacitive touchscreen and a good user experience. Even though T Mobile's selection isn't as good as ATT's, it trounces VZWs'.
If you don't have the pleasure of choosing from great selections (those of ATT and T Mobile) then like most, if not all of us here, you are stuck between choosing a flip phone dating back at least four years (Accolade), one approved by military standards (Ravine, Brigade, Barrage, etc...) or one of the touchscreen "feature" phones VZW offers. The Cosmos Touch, Crux or KIN ONEm or KIN TWOm. What is so bad about these phones? Well, I can't say too much is wrong with the KINs, aside from them carrying a half-baked OS (the potential these phones had was astoundingly lost in bad marketing and under development). The Crux on the other-hand is a pain to use. Considering its unresponsive touch screen, and sluggish performance it makes for a terrible user experience. This leaves the Cosmos Touch-it is no ENv Touch. It lacks a good camera, no way to record video, and a bad screen resolution.
The way I see it is that the only decent "feature" phones VZW offers are the KINs ONEm and TWOm. They are equipped with WiFi, 5 and 8mp cameras (respectively) capacitive touchscreens, and a decent web browser. These are features that ATT and T Mobile do not offer on their "quick messaging" phones (1 point for VZW). Too bad they only come with a stripped OS (no more LOOP or KIN SPOT) because these features were too "data heavy"  and, in all honesty, made them too much like smartphones. Nor do they include Backup Assist support, or any access to the VZW apps (really not a big deal anyway). At least when using a KIN you aren't bombarded with VZW marketing and logos.
Before I settled on the KIN TWOm I checked to see if I could get my hands on a Samsung Rogue (re-certified). The only way I could only get it is to pay $159. For a re-certified phone? I don't think so. It is obvious that while ATT and T Mobile are still keeping those in mind who can't afford a smartphone, VZW is forgetting them. They are throwing the "feature" phone to the wind and concentrating on selling expensive smartphones. I will say that they are making smartphones more affordable, but it is not yet enough.
In the end I will stick with VZW, as long as I can afford it....they really do have the best coverage. But I will be a disgruntle customer stuck with a pathetic selection of "feature" phones until the day I go back to my smartphone (out of college maybe?). I will now step off of my soapbox.
Thanks to those of you who read this, and I hope VZW takes this seriously.

The main point of the post was to provide a solid comparison of the lower end phones offered by the three most major carriers in order to show that VZW is falling behind (albeit in brief). I will admit that that did get lost as my post dragged on. The problem is that Verizon does not offer a good enough selection of phones to choose from for those trying to save by going the lower end route.
Thier selection of phones has indeed changed. Comparing the latest run of "feature" phones to the phones they offered not just two years ago, I can see a change. The quallity and build of the products is the same, but the capabilities are lower. If you look back at the phones I mentioned from ATT and compare them to the touchscreen phones that Verizon offers, I think you will see a difference in features. You can get previous phones; but by doing so you forfeit the ability of getting insurance, or any other replacements.
When I said that T Mobile and ATT are bigger than VZW, I am taking into account the merger that is currently taking place. Once the merger is 100% complete they will have about 30 million more subscribers than VZW. I doubt that T Mobile's quick messaging phones will become obsolete like Alltel's did. T Mobile is larger and thier phones are better known.
I agree that VZW has better customer service (many sources can prove this), but I do not agree that ATT's  phones are garbage. They carry Samsung, LG, and Pantech. VZW carries the same brands (+ Sharp). I will again agree that VZW is the best all around, except for the selection of  "feature" phones. A reason I will stay with Verizon is that they have good customer service, and great reception everywhere, if this were not the case I would switch carriers simply for the chance to get a better lower end phone. I also stay with them in hopes of being able to get a smartphone back one day-VZW has a fantastic selection of them.
