User Account Advanced Options Not Saving

I'm trying to either add an alias or change the account name of a user account in Server.app. Right click on a user and select Advanced Options. From there I add an alias then click OK. A spinner appears then disappears. No other indicators showing it saved. Press cancel and then go back in and all the fields are the way they were before I changed them. I have the latest Server.app installed.
Any one else run into this and have a workaround?
Thanks!

WorkGroup Manager will allow you to change the UID of a user.
Finder will allow the Admin to change the ownership of a folder, and then propagate that ownership to all sub-folders. I am nor certain whether Server [admin] will do that as well. I think it depends on your exact setup.
I think you could also log in as the new User, authenticate as Admin, and copy the files to the new User home (which may give them new-user ownership.

  • Networked user accounts, mail passwords not saving or notes?

    Hi there,
I have a mac mini set up as a server with latest software. On it i have 20 networked users which use between them for different mac mini's.
Problem which i have come across and i haven't found a solution yet. When i created them emails on there user accounts the incoming mail password won't save? On occasion i has saved, but once log out of the user and log back in the password has gone. which then it prompts me to keep typing the password in and won't save the password. This is very frustrating!!
I have also just noticed when i put message in notes and then log out and log in the the message has gone. This got me thinking it could be something with the user account not saving any data that put in? I don't really want to reformat the server if i don't have to.
If anyone has solution to this problem, it would really handy to know?

I click the Note button, nothing happens. The feature is completely out of service. I don't understand. Am I missing something obvious? I have tried the keystrokes too, no reaction at all, no errors, just can't use Notes, at all! rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Please help.
Update: I opened Console to see if I could find any errors immediate after trying to create a note and this is what I found:

New to the Apple and I want to set up a user account that will not delete the guest users files and allow and preserve their personal settings after log out. Is this possible?

The built-in guest user account will not do this. Simply create a new standard account and call it "Guest" or "Guest Users" or whatever you like.
Go to System Preferences > Users& Groups, click "+" to make a new account.

  • Adobe PDF Converter Advanced Options not sticking

I am having trouble getting decent quality pdfs printed from autocad - specifically of materials that are themselves pdf's placed into autocad. The information is typical pdf vectors - I can snap to the linework inside the documents, but when I actually plot them I am getting fuzzy rasters.
I am trying to fiddle with the setting in the plotter properties and nested a few menus in are some settings called Adobe PDF Converter Advanced Options - there I can change DPI, ICM intent and Posctrcipt options...the problem is the settings don't stick. I change something, and then go back in to the menus and they are exactly as I first found them.
there are two problems here - one, printing pdfs of pdfs not producing very good quality, and two, having trouble getting settings to stay set...

I pretty much agree. However, print quality can be a big one. I use 300 dpi and many folks recommend 600 dpi. The 1200 dpi is way beyond what is normally needed. One place where the 1200 is a major problem is in preparation of slides in PDF. If you have line drawing with color lines of 1 pixel, they will be 1200 dpi. Imagine the problems when displaying on a 96 dpi monitor, a factor of more than 12 fewer pixels. A 1 pixel yellow line is almost unreadable because of the way that the line is sampled for display. If 300 dpi is used for print quality, then there is no problem. I found this one out the hard way.
Most of the other settings you would leave alone, or change someplace else.
In your sample DOC file from another post, your A4 came out as letter for me. The paper set in the DOC file is A4. My default in Acrobat is letter. Thus, WORD does NOT override the printer setting. You have to set the paper in the printer separately, similar to putting the proper paper in the printer.
I am still struggling with all the differences you are trying to point out on your other post. There are differences, but I am not totally sure of the reason. You might want to look at a page audit under the PDF optimize to see were teh resources are being used.

  • Firefox is not launching in one user account (just does not react at all) although it works fine in another account on the same laptop

Have been running Firefox without problem in both my own and my child's account on my laptop. Today, although Firefox still works normally in my own account, it does not launch at all in my child's account. Clicking on either the short cut or via AllPrograms results in the timer starting briefly and then disappearing and nothing happening. I have checked Task Manager and Firefox is not showing as running in the Processes tab. I have tried to set up a new profile in that account to no effect.

I am having exactly the same problem. This worked on all versions of Firefox up until mid last week. It started failing on Wednesday, coincident with the installation of Firefox 8.0 (see attached gif showing the automatic update on that date).
To fix the problem, you have to shut down Firefox 8.0 on one account, switch to the other account and then you can run it there.
If Firefox 8.0 is running on on account, the other account will run Firefox, but when you enter an URL it waits for quite a while then reports "The connection was reset. The connection was reset while the page was loading".
We also use Thunderbird 8.0 and it does not exhibit this problem, and works at the same time as Firefox 8.0. I suspect they might share some components.
I'd be happy to supply more details if needed.
    Thanks,
    Ed

  • Privacy option not saving correctly.

In the privacy options, why is it that when I chose the "only allow people in my contact list to contact me", not doing its job????
Either FIX IT or get rid of it because every time I open Skype, there`s all these "IM`s" waiting for me and then I`ve got to go and waste my time with having to remove them, very ANNOYING|!!!!

I'm not sure of what the logic behind this procedure, but actual responses from users who tried it confirm that it works (or at least this is something you can try while waiting for further responses from the experts).
Please switch your status to offline for at least a minute, then switch back to online.  Then change your privacy settings to see if they will stick this time.

  • Widget options not saved

Since the STB update I cannot save changes to the options of a widget. Specifically, I load Weatherbug and it knows only one zip code. I hit Options and enter more zipcodes. Weatherbug now knows multiple zipcodes and works appropriately but if i exit the widget and immediately go back into it, only the first zipcode remains. I cannot make it save my changes.

  • User name and password not saving anymore on my most used site!

Just a couple weeks ago - my username and password quit autofilling in the site that I use for my business.  I need to log in several times a day (anytime I go 10 minutes without activity, I need to log in again).  Safari is set to remember passwoods and is still working on all the other sites I vist where I saved the passwrod information.
I just cannot get the auto fill to work on the one site i want it to work on.  It won't even give me the pop-up that asks if I want to save a passwrod.
So - is there a setting I am missing?  (I do not think it is the particualar site as my sister uses Safari and her user name and passwrod are still auto-filling.
    Any ideas?
    Sandy

No extensions or plugin added lately - I do have a two old ones on there - ghostery and Adblock - but those have been on there for a while.
I did look through every setting page in the preferences - it is weird that the password thing is still working for my other sites and just not this one - I have not even come across another site where this has happened.
I tried to add the username and passwrod to the autofil settings by clicking "edit"  but you can only remove from that window.

  • PDF Setup Options not saving

I have been having trouble in Frame when I create a PDF (I think since Frame 9). Any time I tried to add or remove a paragraph tag to the Include Paragraphs it wouldn’t save my settings. This wasn’t a big deal at first. But when I started creating new manuals I started getting frustrated. Today I finally reached a point where I had to figure out what was going on. The first thing I did was notice that I didn’t have the most up-to date version of Frame. I’m all up-to-date now but it didn’t solve the problem.
The solution - For some reason it's taking the PDF setup information for the whole book from the first document. So what you have to do is open the first document and then Save As PDF (you have to open it, you can’t just select it and then Save As PDF). Set up everything the way you want the same as usual. Then once you save that you can then do Save As PDF for the whole book and it works. If you need to change a setting or change a paragraph tag, you have to open the first doc again and save it there. It won't keep your changes in the book, just the first doc.

Thanks for this post!  I just had the same problem with FrameMaker 10, and it worked as you described.
Researching the matter, I discovered that while this behavior is undesirable, it's actually documented and works as designed!  Chapter 13, page 464 of "Using FrameMaker 10" (framemaker_10_help.pdf) has the following note:
"In a book, the joboptions saved with the first file are applied to all files in the book. To get the desired results in the exported PDF file, open the first file. Then choose Format > Document > PDF Setup, adjust the settings, and click Set."
How about moving those settings into the book file where they belong?

  • Captivate 8 advanced actions not saving

I just upgraded to Captivate 8 today and was attempting to create a conditional advanced action.  However when I save the action, it doesn't save so the action remains blank.  The advanced action was on click, image disappears, and user jumps to a different slide.  Like Jeopardy.  They answer the question and come back to a main screen where the original link image disappears.  Why won't it save?

I don't think that's it.  I put together the scrip (which is a simple one, only 3 lines) and click "Save Action."  The save action button doesn't grey out or anything.  Then when I try to move to a different AA it asks if I want to save before leaving.  If I say yes, it says an AA with that name is already created.  But when I go to open the original script, it's blank.  I've tried renaming things, selecting different items, and am getting nowhere.  It's the craziest thing!

  • Password save option not saving

I have Win 7 and am still getting used to stuff, I have tried run as administrator, run as user, disable master password, enable master password but nothing allows me to save my passwords into the password manager!
    Help, this is getting frustrating

    * Make sure that you not run Firefox in [[Private Browsing]] mode
    * In Private Browsing mode some menu items are disabled (grayed) and features like visited links are disabled and not showing
    * You are in Private Browsing mode if you see "Tools > Stop Private Browsing", possibly grayed
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).<br />
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]<br />
    <br />
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.<br />
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.<br />
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Autohide task bar option Not saved.

I go into the Taskbar properties and click the Autohide taskbar,  click apply then click OK.
This works great for a while and the taskbar hides fine.  Then sometime later it quits hiding,  I go back into properties and autohide is no longer checked.  So I Click it again, then click apply, then click lock taskbar then hit apply, then
    hit OK.
each time after checking the autohide option I exit go back in and it has saved it that way and autohide works fine.
Then after some time it quits hiding again and I go back into the properties and autohide is once again unchecked.
This seems to be a different issue than what most people have which can be caused by the notifications of icons. I have already set those based on other answers but that doesn't work for my issue.  Any ideas as I am stumped?

    Hello LuvWhiteSand,
    What is your current situation?
Have you tried the solution as T. Kujala mentioned?
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Streams\Desktop]
    delete the value named 'Toolbars'.
In Task Manager, select 'File' -> 'New Task' -> type 'explorer' to restart
    the shell.
If that doesn't do the trick, repeat deleting 'TaskbarWinXP' as well.
Before you make changes to a registry key or subkey, we recommend that you export, or make a backup copy, of the key or subkey.
