User account cannot sign on
My desktop will not load. The background picture comes up and the dock, but finder & desktop will not load. The last time I was able to sign on, I downloaded about 30 jpg files from iphoto to my desktop and copied them to a flash drive. I pulled the flash drive to the trash can and waited for it to disappear from the desktop before I disconneced it. I plugged it into a pc and could not view the photos and so I erased the flash drive. I went back to my mac and could not sign into my user account. I have gone into disk utilities and corrected user permissions. The user account I cannot use is UID 501. I check that out on netinfo manager after reading some other discussions. Would appreciate any ideas.
I have a similar problem, with an incomplete solution.
I created a back-up on an external drive but cannot boot from that drive. The system hangs before the login screen. After weeks of useless attempts, I went to the Genius Bar at the Apple store. The "Genius" duplicated my problem with his iBook, hence I know my laptop is OK. He then went into the root directory and located the file com.apple.loginwindow.plist in the library/Preferences folder. He changed the name to com.apple.loginwindow.plistold, and restarted the system. That process re-created a com.apple.loginwindow.plist file and everything worked fine after that. I could boot from the Firewire drive. I used the same fix for the second firewire drive and that solved the problem there also.
The reason I claim only partial success is that the problem reoccurs after each back-up. I made another clone, bootable back-up after this diagnostic. Then tried to reboot from the external drive. Same problem again. I then implemented the fix (changing *.plist to *.plistold in the Preferences folder), rebooted and it worked again. Obviously, there is something wrong in the way this file is created.
That is the status now. It seems that everything will be fine if this file never existed on the external drive. I use Data Backup 2.1 for backups

I have an iMac with multiple user accounts each with an Apple ID and individual iTunes library and Itunes match linking to iPhones iPads etc.
I bought songs on my iPhone yesterday, on trying to listen to them on the iMac (my user account) this morning I get the "cannot associacte Apple ID for another 31 day" meassage.
Is there any way round this? or is the answer only purchase via iTunes on the iMac in the individual account. Why do Apple do this?http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4627

User account cannot connect to Youtube or Netflix...

I upgraded my late 2008 Unibody Macbook Pro to Mountain Lion the other day and have had no problems. My son has a user account on the machine and all seemed to work fine until he tried to load YouTube in both Chrome and Safari. He cannot connect to the site. I can in my Admin Account. We also tried Netflix on his account and we get an error in both Chrome and Safari saying it cannot play DRM content. Wha? I updated Flash on his accout and several other websites work. He is also unable to connect to the app store. I removed all restrictions from his account and restarted. Still no dice.
Seems like it must be a simple fix, but for the life of me I cannot figure it out.
Anyone got any ideas?

"Hmmm, I wonder if Netflix gives me the same DRM issue in my account." Everything usually works in my account and that is the account I installed Mountain Lion from.
"Hey, it works. Okay, this is probably not the same problem Lion had with DRM in Safari and needed to be patched quickly by Apple. Let's see if I can get more information from Safari on my wife's account."
Log into wife's account and launch the same show on Netflix and it now loads and plays. Don't ask how or why, but it works. Perhaps doing the same from your account will also have a beneficial result.

Cannot successfully add new user account, cannot activate Guest account
I've been attempting to add a new user account on my MacBook but to no avail.
After entering data and hitting the Create Account button in System Preferences, no new user appears in the list. Strangely, in the /Users folder of my HD, the new user files/folders have been created.
If I attempt to add a new user with completely different account name and details, I have the same issue. If I attempt to add a previously inputted user again using the exact details as before, or merely the same account name, I receive a red error message indicating that the account name is already in use when hitting the Create Account button.
Probably related to this, when I attempt to activate the Guest account, I get an infinite loading wheel next to the checkbox sentence "Allow guests to log in to this computer" and the Guest account in the user list pane remains disabled.
I've tried instantly logging out/in and instantly restarting my machine after creating an account, erasing all related preference files... I'm fully updated. Even though it seems like the incorrect option, I can't think of any other solution than a OS reinstall. Can anyone help before I take more drastic measures?All I can think to suggest is to use Disk Utility to repair permissions, grab the combo update (search the forums - it seems to be a complete update often used to if an updated file has been corrupted from the rolling updates) and then another repair permissions.
That sequence seems to be a fairly generic suggestion which solves a few issues, whether or not it will help in your case I don't know but that is one odd problem you have. -
I'm opened every iTunes Media folder found on this Mac to Everyone for R&W access and still get this message of 'you don't have write access for you iTunes Media folder......' This is extremely frustrating!

I have a machine where only 1 user account cannot run Rosetta applications.
So Filemaker 6 and Office 2004 quit upon launch, but the rest of the applications are fine. I figured this was related to the earlier Security Update issue, but it turns out any other user is fine (new or existing). So it's specific to the one account. Now I don't see any Rosetta preferences, but might there be something else I am missing?

Greetings I am a PC user and cannot sign into ICloud, but I can sign in to ITunes
I have a windows 8 pc and keep getting an invalid password, when I try to sign in to ICloud. The same password signs me into the IStore. Can anyone help?

Help - 2nd user account cannot see all pictures in iPhoto library
For some reason, if my son logs into his account and brings up iPhoto, he can only see images through 2009. I'm lost on this one. Any ideas to try? Thanks!
Figured this one out the more I looked at it - bottom line is the other account was somehow still pointing at an old library on an external HD. That's not really what I was wanting though.

for a few days now I can't login to Discussions with Safari or (my preferred browser OmniWeb). I'm typing this with Firefox which works fine. Is there currently a problem with WebKit or the site?

He is running 10.5.6, so it might be that. Also, the Safari 3.2.1 update is giving 10.4.11 users problems.

VSS-00011: Connection to database instance <instance_name> failed.

I have assigned ora_dba group to the user that runs the Oracle VSS Writer Service which is the only Oracle solution but still getting
the above error. Was advised to raise the issue here that it is an OS issue. Pls helpThe user account cannot access Oracle Database instance. And also how do you temporarily disable security software on the server.
Have you checked what I already asked for? "Try using the user account and access the Database Instance.
That will let you see if the problem is with the user account permissions or not."

hello everyone...I got my very first macbook pro just today and i have a problem deleting the "test" user account. if i can't delete it, the system won't let me turn off the system. I don't know what to do! HELP!!!!
Have you created another admin user? Go to system preferences click users and click the + to add a user; if you haven't already. Once you have another admin user other then the "test" user make sure you're signed out of the test user account. Sign in with the alternate ADMIN USER that you just created or had created already and go back to SYSTEM PREFERENCES and click the same USERS icon near the bottom. Now select the TEST user and click the - sign. This should prompt you if your sure you want to delete the user account. And your done.
New User created and Test User deleted... I hope this helps. -

I am getting this message sandbox environment error no test user account, when downloading any application from iTunes, friend told me to sign out and sign in iTunes it might solve the problem , and i triyed it but still I cannot login I to my itune account. I'm sharing this issue we encountered earlier today so that others might benefit from what we discovered.
We're using Win8.1 Ent and on two of the systems, any accounts created encounter the following message upon attempted login (i.e. login fails):
"User Profile Service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded"
The event viewer shows this:
Windows cannot copy file
\\?\C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VSCommon\12.0\SQM\sqmdata-7696-039-00000.sqm to location
\\?\C:\Users\TEMP\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VSCommon\12.0\SQM\sqmdata-7696-039-00000.sqm. This error may be caused by network problems or insufficient security rights.
DETAIL - Access is denied.
Solution which worked for us
In our instance either setting the appropriate permissions on the affected file, or deleting the file resolved it.I had a similar problem, and raised a Premier case, which is mentioned here:

It seems this issue with SQM/CEIP creating a poorly ACE'd SQM file has been around for a very long time, with many causes being the installation of Internet Explorer (as was my case, of deploy IE10 to Win7), but other reasons also occur (as in your case
with VS).
It seems to me that this is a defect in the SQM/CEIP component, but the issue does not consistently occur is all scenarios, which appears to be an excuse to leave the defect uncorrected, so we have to implement ugly workarounds.. :(

Cannot sign in to trial account (user name not recognized)
Hi all,
I registered for a trial account of Windows Intune yesterday, but after submitting the registration request, the website told me something went wrong during account creation and threw an error (1004). I tried registering again but it tells me the account
is already registered.
Now, when I try to sign in to Windows Intune with my credentials, I get the following message:
User Name Not Recognized
This user account is not authorized to use Windows Intune. Contact your system administrator if you think you have received this message in error.
I am unsure what went wrong, but as I would really like to start trying out the platform, any help is very much appreciated!

I would either create a new trial account as it seems that something went wrong with your registration of your first account or contact Microsoft Support and see if they can assist you with the account you have created.
