User account control startup

When I try to start iTunes, I get a Microsoft popup with the question "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?"  When I answer "yes", it will still not open the program.  This screen and question has never come up before.  How do I fix this?

That's consistent with a compatibility mode problem. Try the following document, only be sure that none of the boxes in the compatibility tab are checked (not just the compatibility mode box itself):

  • ITunes & User Account Control In Windows 7 64 Bit

I have an iPod Touch 5G, and a PC running Windows 7 64 bit. The latest Windows 64 bit iTunes with the latest update that was released a few days ago is installed. When the PC starts, a warning screen appears asking if I want to allow iTunes to run. This is the iTunes Helper app that wants to open first and stay resident so that if I plug in my iPod Touch it will be recognized and open iTunes as designed.
Yes, on the summary pane in iTunes, the “Open iTunes when this iPod is attached” option is checked and so is the option for connecting via wireless.
The only way to prevent this is to turn off User Account Control for the entire PC which of course should not be necessary if iTunes was working as designed with the proper certificates installed.
I have removed iTunes, Bonjour and the two other Apple apps that appear in Control Panel >Programs, then re-installed the iTunes Win7 64 bit file as administrator.
It's installed as the administrator and the only user on the PC, hence by default I am the administrator. I have also clicked on Properties for iTunes, Run as Administrator, but the UAC warning screen will still appear every single time I boot the PC.
How do I get iTunes to be properly recognized so that Windows doesn’t detect it as a rouge program trying to gain access that it’s not entitled to.
Furthermore, this also prevents me from drag & dropping songs from Explorer to iTunes. The only way I can drag & drop songs from Explorer to iTunes is to turn UAC off completely. This is a feature that is explained in the instructions as a means of linking songs from your Explorer folders so they reflect in iTunes.
This appears to have been an issue since 2010 as others have experienced it also, so hopefully by now the procedure for resolving it must have surfaced.

    Quicktime does NOT start
    Many thanks.
In recent times, the error-message-free iTunes and QuickTime launch failures have been indicating that another application has stashed old QuickTime componentry in your system files.
So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • User Account Control Problems with Premier Elements 7 32 bit in 64 Bit Windows 7

I found User Account Control Problems in other forums but didn't see much in Premiere Elements, so I hope this helps others who may be having problems with 32 bit programs in a 64 bit computor. When I first got my 64 bit I didn't have problems.
Back in February I bought a Quad Core Desktop with Windows 7 64 bit. Haven't been on the forum for 7 months since I wrote in regarding importing video with the Pyro AV Link (Premiere Elements Tips and Tricks). I was having problems importing video which started after March 28 sometime, as that was the last time I didn't have a problem importing VHS. Took me a few months off and on to find out what worked.
I started uninstalling Windows updates and any programs I had installed back to that point in time. Checked after uninstalling each item. The capture screen would come up on a delayed basis but clicking on capture did nothing. Although no driver is required for IE1394 (so they say) I read where some people using the Legacy driver had fixed some problems, so I switched to the Legacy. Seemed to work great (for a few minutes).
I had even uninstalled and reinstalled PE7 but no difference. Finally I noticed a shield in the PE7 Desktop icon. Thats weird. Never had that before. Just decided to show up after I had done all of the stuff I mentioned. Turns out at some point in time since I've had the computor Windows 7 decided to flag my 32 bit program as misusing the 64 bit system. User Account Control. I never bothered too much with UAC and just clicked on the yes box wen it popped up asking if I wanted this or that to take control of my computor. I tried using the minimum setting for safety reasons, and then finally turned User Account Control off. Bingo! PE7 capture works again and still working.
While I am not recommending that people arbitrarily turn UAC off, this appeared to be my problem. I would recommed that they try turning it off before uninstallin a bunch of stuff. Having a restore point may or may not have been a fix for me. I think one of the Windows Updates caused the problem but I am not going to uninstall any more stuff at this point, I have not been back on the internet or installed any more updates in my desktop. I am going to use my laptop for internet and used the desktop for video.
I am guessing this could be a problem for any 64 bit systems trying to use 32 bit programs. IE: XP,Vista,Windows 7 64 bit. In Vista there is also Data Execution Prevention (DEP) which you can turn on or off, supposedly to prevent misuse of memory (as I understand it), but Win7 either doesn't have it or I haven't found where it's located.
Maybe this has been covered in the forum somewhere and I missed reading it. Hope I am not too confusing. Anyway, whatever feedback you guys have would be great.

    John,
Thanks for your answer, and I did check out the link you suggested. However, I have Windows 7 Home Premium as most people have I think, and the XP program was not available. I started with Vista and now have Win 7. I never could navigate around in XP anyway so am content to just leave User Account Control off.
Interesting side note to turning UAC off is that my desktop seemed to be using more of the CPUs, where half of them were "Parked" as I wrote in also about 7 months ago when I 1st got my desktop. I am pleased to say that video processing seems to go quicker with UAC off. Have to observe things some more to confirm.
I just thought if others were having problems after installing Windows Updates and leaving UAC off worked then they could possibly pinpoint a problem.

Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
In the Compatibility tab, make sure that Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" is not selected.
You also need to check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program directory.
If you can't make the changes then you need to start Windows Explorer as Administrator.

  • TS3212 User Account control is asking me " Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer? then it asks me to type an administrator password - ?

What Username and password is the User Account Control program asking for to complete the 10.7 download on my PC? It asks do you want to allow he following program to make changes to your computer.

The updated version of iTunes is a change to your computer, and the computer is trying to protect itself against unauthorised changes that could damage it (in other words, hacking, trojans, viruses etc.).
On your computer, you are using a User Account; imagine that it's your part of the computer. Each user on the computer is either an administrator (who can make changes) or a non-adminstrator (who cannot make changes) to the computer itself.
Do other people use the computer as well, such as your parents, who may have restricted your ability to change programmes on the computer?
Or is the computer at, and owned by, your school, or in an office? If so, their computer department has created an account on the computer for you to use, but not change.
In either of the above scenarios, your account will be a non-administrator account. If it's your parents' machine, perhaps they have an administrator's account.
If you are the only user of the computer, or there is only the one account on it, then presumably, the administrator password is one that you have set up.

In Windows 7, Microsoft updated UAC in several ways. By default, UAC does not prompt when certain programs included with Windows make changes requiring elevated permissions. Other programs still trigger a UAC prompt. The strictness of UAC can be changed to either always prompt, or to never do so.

  • Disabling User Account Control - CUBAC

Installing Cisco Unified Business Attendant Console.  Documentation says that on server 2003 / sever 2008 installations, disabling of the user account control is required.  It gives a procedure to do this on Server 2008.
The install I'm working on is on Server 2003.  I cannot find anything like this.  Googling on the subject has led me to believe that this is likely a documentation bug, as I can find no reference to Server 2003 having this feature.
Has anyone else run into this?  The documentation appears to have been written by someone who speaks english as a second language, and not thoroughly vetted for correctness.

    Hi Clifford,
This would just be for Windows server 2008
    CSCtc77367            Bug Details
CUBAC 3.1.1.5 docs need to say "disable User Account  Contol" in win2008w.
It appears UAC (user account Control) a new feature found in   Windows Server 2008 will block license files from being properly applied  in CUBAC 3.1.1.5.
The installation and requirement docs should  reflect that UAC needs to be disabled before installing CUBAC on Windows  Server 2008.
    Observations:
    Go to webadmin, licensing
When  you look at that page, you will not see any licensing info; no eval.
    It  says, no licensing info.
When we turned off UAC, the licensing  page showed the eval info for 5 days.
At which point we were able  to add the license

  • Why does Firefox 33.1.1 require a User Account Control dialog before loading?

I am unable to stop FF from requiring the User Account Control dialog box before it will load. I uninstalled and reinstalled a clean copy, which worked the first time, and then re-established the UAC dialog on subsequent starts. This is incredibly annoying. It has never happened before with FF. How do I stop this behavior? I will stop using the damn program if this can't be fixed.

Check that Firefox isn't set to run as Administrator.
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.
    * Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
    * "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected
Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
If you can't make the changes then you need to start Windows Explorer as Administrator.

  • CS4-64bit in Vista - Keep getting "User Account Control" popup whenever I open a file!  Argh

Anyone know how to turn off the lame User Account Control switch for Photoshop? Whenever I try to open a PSD file (even from Bridge), I get the annoying Vista warning window asking me if I really want to open the file.
    Anyone know?

"I'm the only one who uses this computer so I naturally log in as
administrator. In order to not get the popup when I open it with PS, are you
saying I should turn OFF administrator settings for Photoshop.exe? Or should
I create a new user (for myself) without Administrator rights?"
Neither. If you create a new user without Administrator rights, you won't
get the popup, but you may not be able to access the file because of the
file permissions. The thing to do is find out what's denying you access to
the files and correct the problem.
To start, use Windows Explorer to locate one of the PSD files you get the
popup with. Right click on the file name and select "properties". The
properties dialog box will have a "security" tab. Select it. At the top,
there is a box labeled "Group or user names". That contains a list that
normally would contain 4 entries. "System", the creator of the file,
"Administrators", and "Users". You could have more or less entries than
that. Click on each entry in turn and the permissions for that group will
be shown in the permisions box at the bottom. Normally, the default is to
allow "Read & execute" for "Users" and full control for the owner, system
and administrators. Look for any that are marked "Deny". If the "Users"
group is missing and your id is not listed as the creator, that could also
be cause of the UAC prompt.
Do you see anything obvious? It's really unusually for this, I'd be curious
    to hear what you found.
At the bottom of the security tab there is an Advanced button. Click it and
under the permission tab, it will show you where the file inherited its
properties. Permission are inherited, depending on what needs to be
changed, if you make the correction at the right level, you may be able to
correct the access problems with one change. Click the owner tab and you
can see or change the file owner. Some people just name themselves as owner.
There is quite a bit of information on how to assign and manage permissions
in the help file. Click on "managing permission entries" at the bottom to
access it. It's much to involved to go into detail here. Microsoft could
definitely have done a better job with the security documentation and the
user interface. Let's hope they do a better job with the next version of
    Windows.
Turning off UAC is an easy out and you will not need to learn how to
establish permissions to stop the popup, but it will also allow a malware
process to make changes using your administrator rights without your
    knowledge.
FYI, the first user defined after a clean install is assigned to the
administrator group by default. Subsequent users are not and are ordinary
users. If you are paranoid or just super careful you could create a second
ordinary user name for yourself as your normal account and reserve the
administrator id for maintenance and cleanup. I doubt many will do that.

  • Adobe acrobat won't install - I don't get the user account control prompt

I have a one year subscription to adobe acrobat XI.  My laptop crashed (motherboard issues), so I am now trying to download acrobat to my new laptop.  Is this allowed?  My subscription has another 6 months on it.
I've signed into my adobe account, downloaded the installer, but after clicking "Run" nothing happens.  I don't get the "User Account Control" prompt.
    Can someone please help?
    Thanks

    Hey Goingup2,
Please note that you can activate Acrobat subscription on maximum two computers using your Adobe ID credentials.
In order to install and activate Acrobat on the second machine, you must first deactivate it on the first machine using the Help menu.
You might get User Account Control prompt after selecting 'Privilege Level' option under Compatibility tab of Acrobat properties.
Please check for the same and let me know.

  • Trial version, windows 7 user account control box comes up

Downloaded trial version of InDesign CS4 on Windows 7 64 bit OS system. I've also downloaded the most current update. Initial problem during installation of the program was that it wouldn't allow me to dowload all components, I think when I followed the technical link, it said something about having to edit the registry and something to do with ICC profiles.  I skipped that for now, didn't really want to go in and edit the registry until I played with the program a bit.
The question I have right now is, that while I can eventually get in the program and run it, when I click to start it, a Windows 7 User Account Control box pops up asking if I want to allow this program to make changes to my computer.  When I click details, it appears the Adobe certificate for this probram is not Windows 7 certified?? Does this happen to anyone else operating on Windows 7??  How do you get rid of that pop up box??  I know I can change my user account settings to not notify me, but that would leave my computer very vunerable so I rather not do that.
Only other program I had bring up that pop up on Windows 7 was Netscape 7, and that pop up box got pretty annoying so I had to go to another browser (yes I know Netscape was out dated, but I loved the email program vs. IE Outlook. I thought maybe it had something to do with my Norton antivirus and called their tech support and they told me no, it was a problem between Windows 7 and the program compatibility.

It's a brand new HP desktop PC with Windows 7 Professional factory insta
lled.  Yes, I'm the ony User, have Admin rights.
I looked at the certificate details when the pop up comes up and it lookes like the certificate is outdate, expired 12/10/09. I wonder if I'm getting an expired certificate because it's only a Trial version of InDesign CS4.
I went into the Windows User Account and tried to figure out the certificate manager, but I just don't understand it and can't figure out how to get it to allow this certificate so I don't get this annoying pop up window asking me if I want to allow this program to make changes to my computer everytime I start the program.
