User Account start up login

Hi, I've just bought a used and reformatted macbook pro and set up a user account for work. I've also now transferred my other user account for home from my imac. However whenever I start up the laptop it logs straight into my home account automatically by default meaning that whenever I want to use it for work on start up (which is 90% of the time) i have to start up, log out of my home account then log back into my work account, which whilst isn't a massive problem is particularly frustrating! Have looked around forums for solutions but not found anything, does anyone know how to change settings so that when the laptop starts up it defaults to the login screen so I can then select whichever account i want to go into?
Any help would be much appreciated!!

Open the Accounts pane of System Preferences and change the login options.

  • Guest user account won't login

In OS 10.10.2 the guest user account won't login, all we get is the spinning ball.
How do I fix the problem?
    -Patrick

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • User account start-up screen..

Probably really simple but... how do I make changes to the initial user account selection screen at start-up. Things like cursor speed (it crawls till am at users), background, etc...
Thanks guys! Sad day... Leopard wait till Octoburr... =(

Nothing bad will happen. If you remove it from the Desktop Pictures folder by dragging it to your Desktop and then log out, instead of Aqua Blue appearing behind the Login Window you just see the solid blue background that usually appears after the solid gray background that you see during the startup sequence.
These are not System files, they are just regular old jpgs. If you rename one of the other jpgs in the folder Aqua Blue, it will appear behind the Login Window. Or any other jpg you wish to use. As long as you name it Aqua Blue.
I don't believe that you can do anything about the mouse speed because Mac OS X doesn't yet have access to that until you actually load an account. But, you don't need the mouse because you can highlight an account by pressing the Down Arrow key. Then you can choose an account in which to Login by pressing the Return key.
Some of the Utility Apps like OnyX (Parameters/Login) give you access to configure the Login Window. You can hide the Sleep, Restart and Shut Down buttons. You can create a custom welcome message. You can choose a few other parameters as well.

  • Is there a way to audit user accounts by last login date/time?

    Hello all,
Is there a way to see or report on a user's last login.  I don't see a last login date parameter in the UM record.  I see that all security events are logged in the security log including logon and logoff, but what I need is to be able to produce a report that provides all user accounts which have not been logged on to since a specified date or # of days, i.e. since 01/01/2008 or >180 days.
Any clues or guidance is appreciated.
    Regards,
    Paul

Is there a SAP / Portal standard way of accessing this information?
Our authorisations team have asked me to get them such a report, and I can't find anything on the portal (NW2004) that would give this information. I don't think the basis guys would be terribly chuffed to provide access directly to the database. If this (database access) is the only way, then I suppose a custom developed app could be created and deployed to the portal, but I would have thought this is a reasonalby sensible report so would be standard content somewhere.
    Cheers,

  • Unknown User account appears on login page

    Hi,
Recently on my Login Page an unknown user has appeared on my computer. When I go to administer accounts the unknown user does not appear.
It has it's own avatar too...a human shadow with outer space in back of it.
I recently set up a myspace.com account, but that should not have done it.
I cannot get this thing off my computer and I fear I am being hacked.
Can anyone help me get rid of this thing and/or explain to me what it is?
    Thanks, RWard

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!!
I went to the link you noted but was unable to find 'security' in the linkTrue, all it says there is
The root user should only be used for specific administration or monitoring tasks. After completing a task as the root user, log out of Mac OS X and log back in using a normal or administrator user account.
Disable root access if you do not use it often. However, if anyone does manage to hack into your machine, he can do more damage if there is an enabled root account (he still has to guess the password of course). If root is disabled, that's another barrier.

  • Locking User account on Wrong Login Attempts

    Version : 7.3.4.x.x
    O/s : Digital Unix 4.0g
I want to lock a user account on unsuccessful number on logins (say 3). This is not in tis version of Oracle but is there any back-door to get this done apart from O/S. Authentication.

If you cannot upgrade to Oracle 8, then you might wish to consider auditing your database sessions.
There are a couple of steps to ensure this :-
    i) in your database's init.ora file, look for the line "audit_trail = true"
If it's not there, then ask the DBA's to put it in and bounce the database.
ii) get a DBA to execute the SQL statement
    AUDIT BY SESSION;
    or
    AUDIT BY SESSION WHENEVER UNSUCCESSFUL;
The first of these will audit all attempts to create a session on the database.
The first of these will audit all unsuccessful attempts to create a session on the database.
Audit records are then added to the view
    SYS.DBA_AUDIT_SESSION
You could look in there for users with a certain number of unsuccessful logins.
And if you find any, then reset their password to "suspended000" or something that only you know. That way, they can't use their passwords any more and have to phone up to get it reset.
it's a roundabout way i know, but i hope it can be of some help

  • HT1310 Mac os x is stuck on creating a user account start up page.  How do I make it actually go through and successfully creating a new user

Mac is stuck or creating a new administrator account and does not completely do it.  It just goes in circles.  It does not confirm the account was created and does not display the last thank for creating the user message.  Can I fix it from the boot start up page because I don't have a disk

Well if your on 10.5.8 like your signature says, then you have bigger problems to worry about.
10.5 isn't supported anymore, so you might as well attempt data recovery (if you dont' have a backup) and call Apple via phone for the 10.6.3 white retail disk.
Step by Step to fix your Mac
    Most commonly used backup methods
Then follow this proceedure to erase the ENTIRE disk with Zero's and install 10.6.3, then Software Update to 10.6.8
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
10.6 will run your older 10.5 software and hardware drivers using Rosetta, but 10.7 and 10.8 will not (also requires more RAM and will slow down your machine)
Over 50% of OS X users are on 10.6 and Apple is supporting it with security updates etc. so you should be good with your present software etc., until you need a new 10.8, 10.9 etc., machine.

  • Decrypting FileVault Failed and User Account Not Allowing Login

So here is the scenario and my problem. I decided to do a clean install of Leopard on my PowerMac G5 and in doing so used Carbon Copy Cloner to copy all the content of my Macintosh HD drive to another internal DataDrive so that I could get my data later and be able to boot into that old installation of the OS for any reason. After the clone was complete I did a clean install of Leopard onto my Macintosh HD volume.
With the new installation running and updates run I decided to go and get my old data. Turns out I had FileVault protection on in the old installation and could not access my data through the new install. This was the very reason I kept the old installation. I rebooted into the old installation and went to remove FileVault protection. The computer logged out and started decrypting my user folder.
Two hours into the decryption it failed and prompted me to continue and be returned to my login and state before I started the decryption. Now I can't login to that user because when I attempt to it will say that FileVault needs to be repaired and give you the option to repair. The repair takes a while and then give you the error stating the repair didn't work.
So I need help figuring out how to get access to my data in that user folder or get that user folder to work so that I can get my info copied to my new installation. Any ideas would be very much appreciated as I feel like I have lost too much for comfort.
    Thanks, Brandon

First of all thank you for the help. In all my trying to figure it out I didn't try just double clicking on the sparse bundle.
Because this was my only user on the computer I had to enable the root user to be able to login. Once that was enable I was able to mount the sparsebundle and copy my data out. I didn't get all of it as something did truly get corrupted during the decryption but I did get 99% I think.
Now with my data coped to another location I can attempt some repairs and see if I am able to get that last percentage point. Thank again.

  • User accounts dissapear from login window after upgrade

I upgraded a MBP from Tiger 10.4.11 to Leopard--standard upgrade (not archive & install). It looked like everything went well, but upon reboot, there are no accounts listed, only 'Other'. Both Admin accounts on the machine seem to have vanished as far as the login window is concerned. All accounts are still on the machine in terms of data/user folders; with files intact (viewed them via target disk mode). Machine has around 90GB of data so would like to avoid having to do an archive & install on top of this--hoping there is a quick fix for this. Any ideas?

  • Guest user account showing on login screen - how to get rid of it.

I disabled the guuest account and my iCloud account is not set to track my Mac what can I do. The guest account is asking for a user ID and password, how to do I reset this password.

I'll answer your second sentence, as I don't understand the end of the first.
You're probably being asked for an administrator username and password to take the action of disabling your guest account.  Try entering that.

  • Login window only shows one user account

    Hi,
Anyone has an idea what's happening?
    I'm running Yosemite on MBPr 15" Mid-2012
When I power on or reboot the laptop, on the login window it only shows one user account, my account which is the Admin account.  It doesn't show the secondary normal user account I created for my wife.  However once I'm logged in and I hit log-off, then it shows the 2 user accounts available for login.
    Thanks in advance!

The lock is on the bottom left not bottom right. Sorry mixed that up.
Letting other users unlock the drive
If you want to make the Mac available to a user that doesn't currently have unlock capabilities, log in as a user that can unlock the disk. When you see your own desktop, choose "Log Out (user name)" from the Apple () menu. Also, you can unlock the disk, then switch to another user from Fast User Switch menu in the menu bar.
If you want to grant existing users the ability to unlock the drive on their own, open the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences. Select the FileVault tab and click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the window. Enter your admin privileges when prompted. Click the "Enable Users..." button to add existing users to the list of accounts that can unlock the disk.
    Hope that helps,
    Weston

  • User accounts not working in Tiger

User accounts in previous versions worked ok but since upgrading to Tiger new user accounts fail on login attempt with that REALLY ANNOYING wiggle. The password is certainly correct on many different attempts but the wiggle keeps happening without any sensible explanation. I need some help with this.

I'm sorry, I'm sure this is frustrating (this is to both mrstee and Renee Slade).
I've not had this problem, but when I do have "wonky" things going on, I use the DIsk Utility to repair the disc, then repair permissions.
I make a bootable backup on an external drive, and I boot from it to check on the internal drive. Without that, you would have to do all these things from the Install DVD. Then reset the passwords as directed above.
If this doesn't work, I'd talk with an Apple Genius at one of the Apple Stores, or give AppleCare a call. I can't think of anything else to do.
I have fixed some pretty weird things with the repair procedures.
    Good luck. Joel.

  • How do I eliminate an extra user account i never wanted to create?

I recently reformatted and reinstalled and re-set up my whole system, and even though I thought i was beng careful to set up as lean a system as possible, I somehow ended up with an extra, unidentified user account at my login screen. I normally log in automatically at startup, but whenever I need to logout and log back in, there's this annoying extra user log in, that, up until this time, I've never had to deal with, as I'm the only one using my computer.  I can't get rid of the blasted thing no matter what I've tried, and there seems to be no documentation covering this mystery, either.  Anybody else run into this problem before, and how did you give this extra user account the boot?

  • Can't Open MS Office 2008 in 2nd User Account

Bought a new iMac, transferred everything from my old Mac including Office 2008 and now want to setup a separate user account for my wife. However, Office in the new user account starts in setup mode, checks for updates but then doesn't launch. I've tried repairing permissions still no luck.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you.

    Where is Office 2008 located?
If it is located in the Applications folder in your Home directory that could be the reason that it can't be open from the second account. In order to be opened from all accounts on the Mac, it must be located in the Applications folder at Root.

    hi,
    Creation of User Accounts
    Purpose
This process describes the steps required to create user accounts for secured and controlled access to the Mobile Application Repository (MAR). User accounts are created for consultants, who intend to customize mobile client applications using Mobile Application Studio (MAS). User account allows a consultant to log on to MAS.
    Process Flow
           1.      During the installation of MAR, the system enables the User Management feature.
If MAR is upgraded from a release prior to 3.0 to the current release, the User Management feature must be enabled manually by system administrator. This is done by changing the umfrc parameter value to “YES” in the ARS_SYSTABLE.
           2.      The CRM technical administrator creates a DSN to access MAR by using the default internal login arsdb with password arsdb.
           3.      The CRM technical administrator carries out the following tasks using the User Manager tool of MAS:
                                a.      Creates user accounts.
                                b.      Associates each user account with a standard MAR profile. For more information, see Profiles of the Mobile Application Repository.
                                c.      Specifies a password for each user account.
Login IDs of the Mobile Application Repository
    Definition
A login ID is a source through which users log on to Mobile Application Studio, and connect to the Mobile Application Repository (MAR). When MAR is installed, standard login IDs are available by default. While creating user accounts, the system administrator associates a standard login ID with the profile of each user account.
    Structure
    Login ID
    Allows you to:
    ARSAdmin
    ·        Perform administrative activities in MAR.
    ·        Create and modify development objects in MAR.
    ·        Modify the password of a user account.
    ARSDeveloper

    ·        Modify your own password.
    ARSUser
    ·        View development objects in MAR.
    ·        Modify your own password.
    ARSSys
    ·        Get information about the MAR.
    ·        Validate MAR users.
    ARSdb
Create a DSN for MAR. The default password for this login is arsdb.
Profiles of the Mobile Application Repository
    Definition
A profile of the Mobile Application Repository (MAR) is a collection of access rights defined for:
    ·        Development objects, like tiles, tile sets and business objects of mobile client applications
    ·        Services of MAR like change lists and namespaces
