User accounts have disappeared from the Sys prefs and log-in screen!

When upgrading to 10.4 from 10.3, I used Carbon Copy Cloner to create a bootable copy of my hard disk to an external (La Cie) drive. After performing an erase and install, the Migration Assistant would not recognize the installation on the external drive. After numerous attempts, I finally re-entered all my settings and transferred most of my files by hand into the new OS. Everything seemed to be fine until I attempted to update the user settings on one of the standard accounts. When I went to the Limitations window for this account in System Preferences the computer froze completely, necessitating a forced shutdown. When I rebooted, the account I was modifying had disappeared from the log-in screen. When I attempted to restore it in Sys Prefs, the Accounts window was blank, and clicking on the resulting items in a Spotlight search gets a preferences error message. I repaired the disk and the permissions with Disk Utility to no avail, and DiskWarrior says the directory is too damaged to rebuild. I re-installed Tiger using archive and install, also with no success. I can log in as Root and access all data, including all user accounts, but still no user accounts in the log-in window or sys prepfs. Does anyone have any thoughts on this before I (aauuugghhh) erase and install again? Any idea why the Migration Asst. can't see the clone? Did I move something into the new OS I shouldn't have?

Did you boot into the clone to ensure that it was working just like the original? If so, can you still do that? If so, I'd boot into the clone, use Disk Utility to erase and reformat the internal HD. Then, clone the clone to the original and install Tiger on top of it using the upgrade earlier version option. Then, you won't have to change or migrate anything. IMHO, it's the best way to do it.

The missing controls are the sliders for exposure, contrast, clarity, etc. I must have inadvertantly clicked something that made them disappear but nothing I've tried brings them back. I've never had this experience in the years I've been using Lightroom (since version 1.1).

Right-click on any other item Tone Curve for ex., and check on "Basic" if that's what you are missing.
If you miss the complete Develop module right-click any other item Library for ex and put a check on Develop

My creative cloud seems to have disappeared from the menu bar

The Creative Cloud icon seems to have disappeared from the top menu bar.
My creative cloud says that it did not close down properly and then asks if I can to force quit it, but nothing seems to happen and I get that error message again when I restart the computer.
I can't seem to locate Creative Cloud to open or close it, yet Photoshop CC will open.
Last night I downloaded updated and CC software.
I made 5 phone calls to India last week and finally got the Creative Cloud working again, but I have no clue what they did. Now it isn't working correctly.
Also, in Photoshop CC I am getting this...Could not complete your request because of a problem parsing the JPEG data. That is what is says on some JPEGS. I don't usually get an error like this.
Does it have anything to do with the malfunction of the CC now that I can't seem to find it in the menu bar and it keeps telling me that it did not close down properly and do I want to force quit when I restart my computer....I get that message.

It appears from many other posts that the " Keep This iPod in the Source List" function isn't included in iTunes 7 unfortunately. You can leave your feedback on it's absence at this link: Apple Product Feedback

They aren't listed in my purchase history since they aren't songs, videos, or apps.
I don't know how to restore them.

Ringtones are currently a one-time only download from the store. If they aren't on your phone or in the Tones section of your computer's iTunes library, then are they on your backup of your downloads ? Obvious question: If you want to have access to the same folders andapplications, why have two accounts? The point of different accounts is that you don't have access to the other person's data.
Any application in the HD/Applications folder is available in all accounts.
Sharing data between accounts depends on the material being shared. So, if you can provide more details we maybe able to help you better.

Half of my bookmarks have disappeared from the Bookmarks Toolbar, they can be restored by closing and reopening the browser, but it's inconvenient. How can I fix this?

During browsing I notice that from time to time half of my bookmarks disappear from the bookmarks toolbar. I don't think it's related to their creation date as I have old and new bookmarks intermingled across the bar. What can I be doing to cause this, or what is happening that I can fix?

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

My desktop went down and rebooting I have found that my email accounts have disappeared from Thunderbird.

My desktop PC powered down without warning. When I rebooted and tried to use Thunderbird it prompted for a new account but I have 2 email accounts set up on the mail tool and neither is displaying the foldrs or emails. i tried restarting and shutting down and rebooting with no change. At the moment the only i have emails is on the web but tend to use the mail tool finding it more flexible. Can you help in finding how to recapture my accounts and emails?

The Bold, Italic, Underline functions have disappeared from the screen as have the check boxes at the beginning of the intro line

The bold, italic, underline, color hi-lite and other boxes in that line suddenly disappeared from the screen and that section remains blank. However when writing a new message if I mouse over the area the boxes re-appear but without their previous alliterations. Also the system does not allow me to color hi-lite text and shows all the colors in a very fuzzy format when I mouse over where the hi-lite box used to be. Additionally the check box at the front of the email subject line has also disappeared but, again, if I mouse over & click it will perform a delete or other function. Need help!

According to your description, there are two text boxes at the bottom of the tablix and both of them are outside the tablix. When you export the report to excel, the upper text box could not be displayed.
Microsoft Excel places limitations on exported reports due to the capabilities of Excel and its file formats. The following limitations apply to text boxes and text:
Text box values that are expressions are not converted to Excel formulas.
Text boxes are rendered within one Excel cell.
The text effect "Overline" is not supported in Excel.
Excel adds a default padding of approximately 3.75 points to the left and right sides of cells. If a text box’s padding settings are less than 3.75 points and is just barely wide enough to accommodate the text, the text may wrap in Excel.
To troubleshoot the problem, please make sure that the text box meet the limitations. In addition, please validate that visibility of the text box is set to true, it’s better to set CanGrow property of text box to false.
If the problem remain unresolved, i would appreciate it if you could give us detailed information about the report, I would be appreciated it if you could provide sample data and screenshot of the report. It will help us move more quickly toward a solution.

I am up to date on my software. All notes are backed up to Icloud. I have approximately 74 notes on my iphone but Icloud is showing only 15!

It sounds like there’s an issue with Settings, the Notes app entry isn’t showing up as expected. Take a look at the article linked below and try restarting your iPhone 3GS.

In Messages, all of my buddies have disappeared from the buddy list. ***?

I video chat with a friend using Messages and suddenly my buddy list is empty .... no buddies. We both use AIM. What gives?

Your Buddy List is kept on the Server for AIM.
This does mean that if you have two Logins at the same time it is pretty much impossible to do anything with the Buddy List as the other login will tend to "Correct" things.
This can mean if the second login is set to Invisible then all your Buddies will appear Off line. (if one login does get full dominance).
You may end up with a situation where neither login maintains dominance and you may only see those Buddies that are Off line at their ends but not see the ones that are ON line either.
However this is only a possible outcome and would take loads of testing over different types of login to see if it were possible.
Other Login include Different apps on the same Mac
The same and different apps on different computers.
PC logins.
Logins via iOS devices
Logins on other type of phones
Web Browser logins.
You can also test non Apple IDs on this page https://settings.aim.com/
Apple IDs (@mac.com, @me.com linked to iCloud and @icloud.com IDs) use a sort of two pass Login to AIM and Apple to use the Apple Password for the IDs to work.
This now excludes the use of @mac.com name on earlier versions of iChat.
The iMessages account uses an Apple ID.
It appears that it does have to be an iCloud variant (new Apple IDs are automatically iCloud ones but older ones may not be).
The ID does NOT have to be the one used in the iCloud Setting.
In fact iTunes and App Store are best served by the same ID but they can be different (it requires two payment methods). FaceTime and Messages (iMessages Account) are also best served by the same ID as you can switch to Video or Audio in FaceTime from the iMessages account. Again they can be different and you could be using 4 different IDs up to here.
Then there is the iCloud settings in System Preferences the links to iPhoto, Contacts, Calendar, Reminders, Notes and so on (BUT NOT iMessages) that syncs those apps with your other Macs and iOS devices.
Your Apple ID used in iMessages needs to be able to check the password at Apple and if it is the same one you use for iCloud that is a close as it gets.
The iCloud server could crash but iMessages would handle it's own login.
(If the server Apple uses for Apple IDs in general were to crash that is a different story but that is going to be a server farm an unlikely to fail in that sense.)
If your iCloud Account is syncing Contacts then all the devices that are linked to that need to be still syncing.
It is a bit unclear if one device is a Master device or if the list is completely moved to the iCloud servers.
I have found if the Sync is turned Off on my Mac there is no Local Contacts List.
However whilst you might not see First Name Last Names (or your choice) in the Buddy Lists you should still see the AIM names (AOL or AIM IDs/Screen Names and other Apple ID used as AIM names)
Checking on the AIM Settings page may also reveal if the account you have with AIM has been suspended.
This can happen if you travel and AIM deems the use "Unusual".
Since Apple IDs can no long be checked there it has become more difficult to obtain a full picture.

Bluetooth seems to have disappeared from the systems preferences selection page on my Macbook Pro. Where to from here?

My Logitech mouse quit working and I assumed low batteries. I replaced them and the mouse still would not connect. The Bluetooth icon on the menu bar is dimmed with the squiggly thru it and the message is "Bluetooth: Not available." The Bluetooth icon in system preferences, which WAS there before, seems to have disappeared. No selection option at all: it simply isn't there. When I click the Mouse option I get "Install a USB mouse" and nothing else. So where I do from here to get my mouse alive an well once more?

the thumbnails pic of images i had downloaded no longer appear in the downloads window .... i have looked all through the tools and help sections of firefox to solve but can't find a solution .. i have also looked in preferences etc and nothing there helps either ... i would appreciate your help to solve this .. thank you

What list?
Just find them and the drag them to the "list".
Usually when you search you can select show in Finder so you know where to drag them from.
