User blogs "gone" after reboot

On 10.5.1 server, I had three users (myself included) that had started blogs.
On a reboot of the server, then re-surfing to the page, I get "no available users".
However, If I type in a name, the blog entries exist.
Note: I'm using Active Directory (AD)...
Any help?
Thanks,
Andrew

Little tip that might help. I was having the same problem with "no available users", even though I had successfully created a user blog and was able to access it directly via the /users/name manually entered URL.
I went into the Server Admin, selected the site, select the WebService tab, uncheck Blog, hit Save, check Blog again and hit save.
After that, the users start showing up, and new additions are getting added to the list without any problems. Go figure.
I'm guessing that there's an initialisation routine that reads the contents of the directory containing the user blogs, and turning the service off and on, it rereads the contents and gets itself back on track.

  • User profile disappeared after reboot

I rebooted my MBP Retina today. When booted back up I couldn't log in, wouldn't take my password. I booted into recovery mode to reset the password vua terminal. My user profile was not there, so I reset the password of another profile, logged in, checked users & groups again, my profile is not there. WHen I borwse the disk the folder structure of my username is there but profile is not. - Can i recover from this? I do NOT have a time machine backup.

    Hello jimjimk
All you would have to is go to System Preferences > Users & Groups and then create the user again. Pay attention to what you are creating and at least make sure that the short name is the same name as the folder in the Users folder. Once that is don’t you should see and alert that states A folder in the Users folder already has the name "short name". Would you like to use that folder as the Home folder for this user account?" just say yes, log out and then log back in to the user that was just created and all should be good.
How to get files from a previous home directory after Archive and Install
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2196
    8. Use the Accounts pane in System Preferences to create a new user with the same short name as the home folder moved in the previous step.
    9. Click OK when prompted with "A folder in the Users folder already has the name  "short name".  Would you like to use that folder as the Home folder for this user account?". This will correct the ownership on all files in the Home.
    10. Log out.
    11. Log in as the user created in the previous step.

  • User/Library Gone After Software Downloaded

Back in May 2012 before I upgraded to Lion, I downloaded this software called ViewOne onto my computer. It is a Java based software to use with Java. Well, apparently it corrupted something on my HD because starting in June 2012 I had no User/Library. The ViewOne software was supposed to be installed in the User/Library folder and was not. Instead it replaced the User/Library folder. Very odd. At least that is what I see occurred through viewing the Time Machine.
I only discovered a problem when I wanted to save my MacJournal files to a CD. The only way I could find the MacJournal files was to go into the preferences for that software and tell it to find the files. When I searched my HD for the User/Library I found it was gone.
Can I restore only the User/Library from Time Machine?
I have saved those MacJournal files onto a CD.
    Found the answer.

  • User accounts gone after Restoring disk

    Hello -
I am running OS 10.4.11 on a PowerMac G4 Dual 450MHz Desktop. Recently I purchased a new IDE Hard Drive to put into my computer. I wanted to make an exact copy of my old hard drive onto the new hard drive and use the new hard drive as my main startup volume. I used the Restore tab in Disk Utility to create the copy.
What happened is that none of the user account data was copied over. Even more strange is that now I cannot find any of my user account data on the original hard drive!
I used the application "Whatsize" to figure out where all the data is allocated to on the original hard drive. It only accounted for about 25GB of the 30GB of data that are being used on the hard drive. I'm guessing the remaining 5GB of data is what was in my user account, but it can't find it for some reason.
Anyhow, I guess my question is, how do I recover the data from my user account that I can't seem to find?
Also, steps I've taken so far:
    - I ran Disk Utility (from another computer using the disk in Target disk mode) to see if I could repair permissions or repair the disk. Neither Repair Permissions nor Verify Permissions were enabled for me to check - only Verify and Repair Disk. I clicked Verify Disk and got a message saying that it had failed and said that "The underlying task reported failure on exit". I then tried to Repair Disk, but got the same error. Disk cannot be verified or repaired.
    - I've also tried DiskWarrior on it, but it doesn't seem to do anything.
    Thanks,
    Steve Pederson

    Hi Steve,
I found the following in the Apple Help Viewer. Read thoroughly first to see if this might help you:
    Restoring a deleted user account
If a user's account was deleted and the contents of the user's home folder were saved, you can restore that user's account and the contents of their home folder. Saved items in the deleted home folder are stored in a disk image file (the filename ends in .dmg) in the Deleted Users folder in the Users folder on the startup disk.
    1. To open the user's deleted files, double-click the disk image in the Deleted Users folder in the Users folder on the startup disk. The disk image content appears in a new window.
    2. Note: If there is no disk image for the user's deleted account, no files were saved when the account was deleted. You will need to create a new account for the user.
    3. To restore the deleted user's home folder, open the Users folder on the startup disk and choose File > New Folder.
    4. Type a name for the folder and then press Return.
    5. To copy the contents of the disk image to the new user account, in the disk image file, choose Edit > Select All and then drag the contents to the user folder you created.
    6. To re-create the deleted user account, choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Accounts. If some settings are dimmed, click the lock icon and type an administrator name and password.
    7. Click Add + and then type the user name. If you don't want to use the automatically generated short name, type a new short name. (After the account is created, you won't be able to change the short name.)
    8. Type the user's password in the Password and Verify boxes. You may type a hint to help the user remember the password.
    9. Click Create Account.
    10. In the dialog that appears, click OK restore the user's account. The user's home folder will contain all their saved files.

  • Blogs gone after update to 10.5.1

I updated my school systems blog server to 10.5.1 yesterday and now the blogs are not showing up. I logged into Server Manager and stopped the web service and checked the settings, and when I tried to restart I get an error about line 812 with '<proxy' in the error message in the log file. I can go to modules and uncheck Proxy and the service starts fine. When it is checked back on----error. If left unchecked, I can start the service, but the users link at the top of the page stays greyed out, and you cannot go to any blogs. Please help me!

I have a similar problem, though I haven't found an error anywhere in the logs (at least related to this problem, that is). As best I can figure, if I turn on "Control Access to Proxy," all of a sudden I get "Access Forbidden" for the blog directories.
I've looked in most of the httpd... configuration files and can't seem to find anything which would make the /Library/Collaboration... or /usr/share/collaboration "not work" anymore. But I did make it work when I used "192.168" in "Allowed Domains." Problem is, Server Admin can't seem to handle this configuration and, though it gets written properly to http.conf, it does not get read back into Server Admin properly.
    Hope that helps...
    /Bill

  • Xraid Arrays gone after reboot

    Hello,
I just inherited an XRaid. We have two XServes (10.3), XServe A is the main metadata controller, XServe B is backup.
The previous showed me it was working with XServe A, then did the following:
    - Took off disk 2
    - Took off disk 6
    - Returned disk 2
    - Returned disk 6
    - Disconnected the two fiber cables of the top controller of the XRaid (where all 6 disks are) from XServe A and connected them to XServe B.
    - Restarted XServe B.
    - The array showed as offline on XRaid Admin.
    - Performed Parity check. All good.
    - Restarted XRaid.
After restart neither XServe sees the XRaid volumen. Now the XRaid Admin shows all components in green, including disks but zero arrays.
    What would you recommend?
Putting the cables on the original Xserve?
    Restart everything?
    Change the bottom controller?
    Forget about it.
    Please help.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ARRAYS CREATED BEFORE?
ALTHOUGH RAID ADMIN DOES NOT SEE THE RAID ARRAY, CAN THE OS SEES IT?
YOU CAN RUN SYSTEM PROFILER (ABOUT THIS MAC, MORE INFO, CLICK ON HARDWARE, FIBRE CHANNEL) to see if the OS sees it.
    - THE HARDWARE HAS TO SEE THE LUNS (RAID ARRAYS IN THIS CASE), IN ORDER TO PASS INFO TO PASS ON TO DISKUTILITY OR XSAN.
IS THERE AN ACTIVE XSAN VOLUME?
    - /Library/Filesystems/XSAN/BIN
WAS THE RAID ARRAY (OR RAIDSET) FORMATED WITH XSAN VOLUME?
WHAT VERSION OF RAID ADMIN ARE YOU USING?
    - THE LATEST IS 1.32/1.26 FIRMWARE, 1.33 RAID ADMIN
ANY REASON WHY YOU DID A PARITY CHECK IN RAID ADMIN?

I'm running windows XP and lately all cookies were deleted every time I reboot my computer. All cookies, and default settings are gone after reboot, I even switched back to IE8 and same issue noted on both IE8 and Firefox 3.6.12

Again and again!!!I reformatted my usb drive and created a brand new safepoint.
everyting was ok but two days after, the system has rebooted (no warning and I don't know why) and my Safepoints are missing in the dashboard.
Obviosly in the WDMyCloud desktop app the SP are visible... Frustating! :-(

  • IPFW losing rules after reboot

I am trying to block port 137 UDP and TCP and after I reboot the rules are gone. I run the following commands:
sudo ipfw add 1 deny tcp from any to any 137 out
sudo ipfw add 2 deny udp from any to any 137 out
Before a reboot I run sudo ipfw list and things look great.....reboot and run it again and I just see the default rule.
Probably a stupid question, but I can't find the answer anywhere and I am a noob with ipfw. And Leopard just mixes the whole process up as well with ipfw and its new application firewall.
So I guess my questions are: Why do the rules disappear? How do I get the rules to stay?
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Hi
It sounds like you need to configure a startup script without a startup script when you reboot your computer- the computer "forgets" the ipfw rules
You can google the search terms : "ipfw startup script " "launch daemons ipfw " " ipfw rules gone after reboot" "shell script launch firewall rules ipfw" "ipfw startup plist " -OR-
You can use WATERROOF waterroof is a free application that will help you configure your ipfw rules waterroof will also install a startup script and a startup plist on your hard drive
Check out this link to the waterroof website

  • After iOS 8 upgrade keyboard shortcuts gone, just reboot

    FYI,
apparently this also happened with the ios7 upgrade. Per the related ios7 thread, after a manual reboot of the phone, the shortcuts reappeared. The reboot solved my problem as my keyboard shortcut settings reappeared after reboot.

I lost all my keyboard shortcuts on my iPhone 5s after upgrading to iOS 8. They still showed up on my iPad Air (iOS 8) and iMac (10.9.5). There were, however, massive sync problems, sometimes they would only flow from one device to all the others, sometimes from one device to only one of the other two, sometimes not at all.
I deleted all my shortcuts and started from scratch, deleting “~/Library/Application Support/Ubiquity”, ~/Library/Dictionaries” and “~/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~TextInput” from the iMac and KeyboardDomain from my iOS devices.
    Rebooted everything a dozen times.
Toggled Documents & Data Sync off and on a dozen times too in all kinds of combination with rebooting and deleting the aforementioned files.
Everything always starts working and syncing fine for a very short while, but sooner or later one of my devices stops receiving new shortcuts as I re-add them.
I reboot that device and it catches up. I enter new shortcuts, and that device doesn’t get any new shortcuts. This time, a reboot doesn’t fix anything.
After using my devices for a while, I notice shortcuts are entirely gone from both the iPhone and iPad, but not from the iMac.
I even upgraded my iPhone 5s to a 6, and right off the bat it had issues with keyboard shortcut sync. I also setup my iPad as new, and same thing: right off the bat, sync issues with keyboard shortcuts.

  • How to fix "OS X Lion user's custom preferences are not retained after reboots"?

How to quickly fix "many of user's custom preferences from within OS X Lion 10.7.x and/or MtLion 10.8.x are not retained after Mac reboots and/or log-offs"?

If many of the user’s custom preferences from within OS X Lion 10.7.x and/or Mountain Lion 10.8.x are not retained on Mac after reboots and/or log-offs, then implement this following QUICK FIX procedure:
Login to user’s OS X login profile… access & select the Finder pull-down menu Go… next select Library (just user’s Library only available when holding-down the Option key here within OS X Lion + MtLion)… find-select-and move the Preferences folder out from the overall user’s Library to the user’s Desktop area for temporary safe keeping.  Then log-off user and/or reboot Mac… log-in as user, and reset all user’s custom preferences (System Preferences, Dock icons, etc. [OS X system now recreating all user’s login profile preferences]) according to their previous Desktop setup.  Finally reboot after making all new user preferences setting changes… log-in again as user, and check to ensure that all user custom preferences now stays retained.  If all OK, then you may move the corrupted Preferences folder from the user’s Desktop area to the Trash for final deletion.
*NOTE: Is this above-written QUICK FIX completely acceptable to Apple's OS X Lion + MtLion troubleshooting standards?  So far this solution appears to have fixed a recent iMac user's issues with custom preferences.
