User can't create folders on Share point

The users is on 10.4.3 trying to create a new folder on a share point on a 10.3.8 server. All permissions in workgroup manager are correct with regards to the particualr share point. The user was able to create the folders about 3 weeks ago and then when she tried to create a folder, it came up with the error 'You do not have the permissions'
I have re-copied all permsions to the share point, run repair permissions on the server and the user's machine.
The user is logging in to a roaming account on the server.
Although they do not have permissions to create a new folder they can save any document into any folder that is already created on the share point.
Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for all the help on this one. If anyone else has this problem, a full re-install of the local machine seemed to work.

    Hi guys,
How can I create folders for different artists and keep them separate? Is it somthing that I need to do in iTunes in my Mac or import them a certain way?
    Anyone please,

If you have the artist information entered in iTunes, then they should already be organized like that on iPod.
    Go to music-->artists

  • Can I create folders in iCloud?

I have not used iCloud very much because I can't tell where my documents are.  I know that sounds silly and I do know literally where they are.  But it seems you cannot interact with them via a finder window.  You must go through individual applications.  However, I created a new document on my mac mini recently and when I opened my laptop several hours later it was sitting there ready to be worked on.  This is a great feature and I am interested in using it further but not if I can't create folders and organize iCloud like the rest of all my files.   Does anyone have any insights on Apple's plans for this?

I'm not sure about Apple's plans, but see the thread below for information on creating folders in iCloud.

  • Can I create folders into iCloud?

Can I create  folders into iCloud?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
I'm assuming that you are looking to create folders when storing iWork documents in iCloud. You can achieve this from an iOS device, by simply dragging one document on to another to create a folder into which they are both placed. After doing this, you can then rename the folder to the name of your choosing.

  • Can you create more region display points??

There are a number of region display ponts ie Page Template Region Position 1, Page Template Region Position 2.........> Page Template Region Position 8. Is it possible to create another ie Page Template Region Position 9 which is directly below 8??? If so.. how?? I am building a application and am using alot of conditional displays and i have run out of regions!
    thanks Roddy

    Hello,
No you can not create more region display points.
But each display point can have N number of regions in it and conditions are at a region level not a region display point level.

Can I create folders in pages app?

Yes. While in thumbnail documents view yoy can hold down on a document icon until all icons wiggle. Drag one document on top of another one to creat the folder. Or tap the Edit button to get the icons to wiggle, Tap done when you are finished.

  • Can I create folders in mail?

Can I create folders in mail?

At the moment you can't do it directly in the Mail app. If it's an IMAP type account then you should be able to login to your account on a browser and create them there, and they should then appear in the Mail app. If it's a POP type account then unfortunately you're stuck with what you've got.
With iOS 5 in the Autumn http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#more says :
Even add and delete mailbox folders on the fly

  • Can I create folders in Mail in the iPad?

Can I create folders in Mail in the iPad?

If you're fortunate enough to have an ISP that also has mail via Microsoft Exchange, you can kill the original account and re-create it as an Microsoft Exchange account. That will bring whatever folders you have set up in the mail's webmail app across to your iPad.
The only downside is that you can only have one Exchange account, so if you already have one set up, you're stuck. But Frontier has my Internet business, so I was able to set up my second account via Exchange.  It's not perfect, but it works.
It's a way to get by until they figure out that POP limitation... :-)

  • User can't create new folders

A user on the network can't create any new folders on the network or the hard drive itself, message reads that the system has reserved these names etc. but it's rejecting any name regardless

    Need much much more detail.
    "A user"
What type of user? Windows, Mac, OS Version, etc.
    "create folders on the network"
I assume we're talking about creating folders on an OS X Server?
If so, what OS X Server version? Any specfics you can provide about the config would be helpful
    "or the hard drive itself"
What hard drive? Are we talking about the user's hard drive or is the server logging in locally to the server?
    "reserved names, etc"
An exact error would be helpful
Please take some time provide as much information as possible and also what steps you may have taken to troubleshoot.

  • Windows XP users can't access SMB/CIFS shares on MAC OSX10.4.4 Xserve bug?

The Xserves are new for us. This problem involves two of the 10.4 xerserves.
1 serves as an Open Directory System Master(10.4.3). 2 Serves as a file share & backup (10.4.4).
Both are production machines and cannot easily be restarted.
There is no Windows network, Active Directory or Windows domain in our network.
We created a SMB and AFP share on the file server which is a member of the Open Directory. (It is bound and kerberized to server 1).
The users all have accounts in the OD system and all passwords are Open Directory. Our users can ssh into the various xserves (including the file share server 2) and authenticate against OD.
We made the shares available via smb under Protocols --> Windows File Settings. We turned the Windows Service on in Server Admin. I'ts a standalone server and all the authentication types are checked under access.
The MAC (powerbook) users can access the share fine. The Windows users can't. The Windows laptops can see the file share server (through search - not visable is Network Neighborhood) but when they try and connect they are presented by an authentication box that just keeps cycling over and over regardless of what the user types as user name & passwd.
I tried to access the smb share with my powerbook(10.4.4) and have the same issue. I'm presented with an authentication box but authentication fails.
The Windows File Service Log shows:
    auth.c:checkntlmpassword(312)

I've googled this error and it seems that there a lot of engineers out there with the same problem but no answers. Could this be a bug with Apple's SMB process? Is there something I've missed? (I've looked at the smb.conf and have even turned off deny clear text passwords - I've even tried granting guest access) Anyone have any ideas?

On the server itself, run the following in the Terminal:
    (from a few different sources):
run ps -auxw | grep Password
to see if Password service is running
Also check the logs in /Library/Logs/PasswordService
    Try: id username
and see if you get some info returned.
    Ex: id jimguy
You should get some info about uid, gid, groups.
    sudo killall -USR1 DirectoryService
Then try to login from a client machine.
    Be sure to re-issue
    sudo killall -USR1 DirectoryService
in order to stop the (far more) verbose logging.
Then check the logs in /Library/Logs/DirectoryService
In Open Directory, you might want to revert to standalone (this will destory the existing OD setup) and then re-promote to OD Master. You'll lose all OD users however when doing so. If you don't have many, this may be best.
You'll want to verify the hostname, and forward & reverse DNS lookups before re-promoting, and watch for any errors when promoting to OD master
See, when you say "The real clue is that I'm unable to access the shares from my Powerbook G4 with my Open Directory account. I can log in to the file share as the local admin though and that's why I'm thinking there is a bug in the samba/OD relationship. " - that's the real clue indeed.
The local admin account, the first admin account you setup on the server, is indeed local, and resides in NetInfo, not Open Directory.
So something is afoul in your OD.

  • How do I connect a user account to a server's share points when the user is on the same Mac as the Lion Server?

I've installed and configured Lion Server on an old iMac that suddenly became available when I upgraded to a new iMac. I've got a share point on there. It was easy. Love it.
My bookkeeper comes into my office once a week and works on that iMac. He already has a regular user account set up there. He needs to access the sharepoint that is on that iMac he's using, and which is now running Lion Server. But I can't see the server from his account, and I can't manually connect to it - I get an error to connect locally on the Mac instead.
But I can't navigate to the point in the user account that I'm using as a file serving account to get him access to the directory I'm sharing.
So, in short, how does a local user on an iMac running Lion Server connect to the server's sharepoints?

All drives are now listed under volumes both local and remote.
I would try the fullpath using /Volumes/....
or post the file paths your trying
are you trying the goto menu?

  • Can't create folders anymore

I can't create new folders on 2 of my volumes anymore.
I am using OSX Leopard 10.5.2 on an iMAC.
The blue New Folder icon in Finder is greyed out and the disk icon is showing a little lock, so the volume seems to be locked for some reason.
I still can add files, but I can't add new folders.
How can I fix this ?

The problem is the lock. You could try this Terminal command to clear it:
    chflags nouchg /Volumes/"Name of Drive"
Hit Return after giving the command and see if the lock icon disappears. If the drive name contains spaces, for instance "Mac Back Up" you need to surround the name with quotes. If it is all one simple word, just Backup for instance, you don't need the quotes. The Terminal is in your utilities folder.
Depending on the permissions on the drive you might need to run the command as super user. Let us know if the simple fix works.

  • User Unable to Create Folders on Mapped Network Drive

I have a user who is unable to create folders in a directory where she should have all the necessary permissions to do so.  She is a member of an AD group, and the effective permissions for that group include everything except:
    Full control
    Change permissions
    Take ownership
The permissions are inherited from two levels up the tree.  So I went to the level from which the permissions are inherited and selected the "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" option in order
to force the permissions to be reapplied to the child objects.  That fixed the issue for about half a day.  The issue came back and as far as I can tell nothing was changed--she still appears to have sufficient permissions to create folders, and
yet she cannot.  In fact, I established a remote connection to her machine and tried it myself (under her account) and was not able to create a folder at any level in the tree.
I have confirmed that one other user who is in the same AD group can create folders at any level of the directory tree.  I have also confirmed that no explicit permissions are set on any of the folders in the tree.  So the two users have the same
effective permissions, yet it works for one and not the other.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    --Tom

My apologies for letting this issue set for so long.  I got waylaid by a series of other more pressing issues and had to push this one to the back burner for a while, but I was able to come back to it and get it resolved today.  I wanted to report
back for the benefit of others who may be reading this thread in the future.
I think there were two separate issues:
Conflicting permissions.  The user was a member of two groups--one that grants the permissions needed and one that grants more restricted access.  Her user account was also listed on the folder with more restrictive permissions than the groups.
She needs full access, so I removed her user ID and the more restrictive of the two groups.
It appears that the changes were not getting written to the subfolders.  One of my co-workers suggested that I add her user ID with full control, make sure that change was made on all the subfolders, and then remove her user ID again and make
sure the removal was made on all the subfolders, just to verify that the changes were getting written to the subfolders.  That worked.
I'm not sure why the second step was necessary, since the first step should have been sufficient to force the permissions to be re-written on the subfolders, but I could not get it working without doing both of these steps.
Thanks for the help on this issue, and again, my apologies for taking so long to get back to the group on this.
