When insering a usbstik i can see it (monitoring tail -f /var/log/messages)
But then I get an error Unable to mount NAMEOFDEVICE, Not Authorized.
Must I add the user to a group? tried storage, hal, disk but did'nt work!
Suggestions?

Try https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GN … n_Nautilus
Have you tried https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Udiskie or pmount?

  • Cant mount /var at boot

I am experiencing problem with our v480 server, as ocasionally it fails to boot and gives cant mount /var error and goes into single user mode. (Log file is attached below). Once this happens, it doesnt come back into runlevel 3 until it is completely powered off and on.
I fixed the (ufs log for / changed state to Error ) message by removing the patch 113073-14 and making / as nologging in /etc/vfstab file. But the problem with not mounting /var still comes up. I am attaching the log file below with the ufslog error message included (which doesnt show up after patch removal).
I am looking for any suggestions or hints, what would be causing this. Thanks a lot.

This error doesnt occur in all boots, but once it occurs , we have to power off the machine and power back on and machine boots normally into run level 3 without this /var error. otherwise a simple reboot doesnt help and we get the same error.

  • How to allow users to mount a Samba shares on a WXP

Through lots of reading I've managed to get an understanding of how to mount SMB shares at bootup by placing the proper edits in /etc/fstab. While having the shares of the server, running Contribs.org SME Server 6.01 (recently known as Mitel SME Server) and acting as a samba server, being mounted at startup is perfect since the server is always on. This is not the best idea for the XP workstation since it isn't always on. Here is a copy of my present fstab file with x's replacing the passwords.
    fstab               [B---]  0 L:[  1+19  20/ 21] *(1085/1086b)= .  10 0x0A
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information
    # <file system>        <dir>         <type>    <options>          <dump> <pass>
    none                   /proc         proc      defaults            0      0
    none                   /dev/pts      devpts    defaults            0      0
    none                   /dev/shm      tmpfs     defaults            0      0
    tmpfs                  /tmp          tmpfs     defaults            0      0
    sysfs                  /sys          sysfs     defaults            0      0
    usbdevfs               /proc/bus/usb usbdevfs  defaults            0      0
    /dev/cdroms/cdrom0     /mnt/cd   iso9660   ro,user,noauto,unhide   0      0
    /dev/cdroms/cdrom0     /mnt/dvd  udf       ro,user,noauto,unhide   0      0
    /dev/floppy/0          /mnt/fl   vfat      user,noauto,unhide      0      0
    //192.168.2.2/stuff    /mnt/silicon2 smbfs username=kingnubian,password=xxxxxxx,user
    //192.168.2.105/e-smith   /mnt/silicon1 smbfs username=kingnubian,password=xxxxxxx,users,noauto
    /dev/discs/disc0/part5 swap swap defaults 0 0
    /dev/discs/disc0/part1 / xfs defaults 0 1
I would like users with an account on the Linux box to mount the remote share on the XP box without needing to SU and consequently need the root password. When trying now to mount "e-smith" (The share on the XP box) as a user using "mount /mnt/silicon1" I get a message about needing to be SU.

To allow users to mount smb shares you need to make smbmnt suid:
    # chmod +s /usr/bin/smbmnt
Note however that the user needs to own the directory used as mountpoint. So I don't know how to make 'mount /mnt/silicon1' in your setup work for all users.
For the users to be able to unmount the smb shares as well you need:
    # chmod +s /usr/bin/smbumount
Now users can do 'smbmount //server/share mountpoint -o username=whatever' or simply 'mount mountpoint' if the details are specified in fstab. To unmount root can do 'umount mountpoint' or users can do 'smbumount mountpoint'.
Don't confuse smbmount with smbmnt - the first is the command you use to mount shares manually, the second is the one that should be suid and is used both by smbmount and by mount -t smb.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cant mount ntfs drive in os x 10.8.4

I've tried with several drives and bought software but still cant mount a pc hdd.
    Needed strongly to work.

NTFS is a windows format, not Mac.  You will have to reformat it to ExFat on a PC or use software such as this:

    Ciao.
Note that these are recommendations for use as an external HDD.

    Hello guys,
I have ISE 1.2 running in a live environment. I have a problem that users cant login after password has expired and changed. i have enabled password change under AD settings and have also checked the allow password change in the allowed protocols settings for PEAP with retries set to 3.

You have the option to allow guests to change password in the portal settings?

  • Exchange 2013 Sp1 some users cant access owa

After I install new exchange 2013 with sp1 on windows 2012 R2 server one for mail boxes and the second Client Access, i move all mail boxes to it, then i uninstall  the old server (exchange 213 with cu3).
All may exchange server’s virtual machines on hyper-v 2012R2
I install certificate and configure virtual directories
I notice some users can’t open there mail boxes from OWA they get a blank page after the enter username and password (from internal and external) (the same users can open outlook anywhere) at the same times many users can access owa.
After many restarts they can access OWA.
After some days some other users can’t access owa.
I remove ECP and OWA virtual directories, Then Recreate and configure it.
But the same problem some users cant access owa
I install a new client access server, configure it
    But the same problem

    HI
YOu can check below things to resolve the problem
Disable SSL from Default Web Site if you have enabled them
Check if you have set any redirection in the Default Website if so remove redirection and see the results
Ensure that you have a valid certificate for owa VD
check correctly the authentication type - windows authentication is enabled or if you have form based authentication enabled
Below is an example for enabling WA
    set-Owavirtualdirectory -identity "servername\owa (Exchange Back End)" -WindowsAuthentication $True -Basicauthentication $false -Formsauthentication $false
Set-EcpVirtualDirectory -Identity "servername\ecp (Exchange Back End)" -WindowsAuthentication $true -FormsAuthentication $false

  • Cant mount /dev/sda2 /mnt

    hello,everybody
        I'm a beginner
I want to install ArchLinux in my Dell notebook ,the sda1 had installed window xp,i want to make a dual system .
I burn a Arch Linux ISO cd and enter the live system, then the questions are coming....
After partitioning the drive by cfdisk tool,i cant mount the sda2 on the /mnt
the error code list this :
SQUASHFS error: Cant find  a SQUASHFS superblock on sda2
            EXT4-fs(sda2)     : cant find ext4 filesystem
What's meaning ? I have partition the drive like this .Please other Linuxer help me  or tell me how to solve this problem
                               cfdisk
    name    flags    partType    fsType    size(MB)
    sda1                  Primary     ntfs         30000
    sda2     Boot      Primary     Linux       100
    sda3                   Primary     Linux       10000
    sda5                   Logical    Linux swap  2000
    sda6                   Logical      Linux        70000

After you partitioned the drive, did you put filesystems on the partitions? Follow the steps in the Beginners' Guide, and use mkfs to put filesystems on the partitions. If sda2 is your boot partition, it's not the partition you want to mount at /mnt (you should mount your root partition there). Read the Guide.

  • Cant mount CDROM

Hi, i was surprised when i figured out that i cannont mount my cdrom.
I have 2 DVD trays. I cant mount cd's in one of them. But in the other i get this:
    org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable no <-- (action, result).
I did some chmod there and i got this error:
(exo-mount:5520): Gtk-WARNING **: Imposible encontrar el motor de temas en la ruta al _modulo: «ubuntulooks»,

    org.freedesktop.hal.storage.mount-removable no <-- (action, result)
For the one who doesnt speak spanish, the traslation will be:
(exo-mount:5520): Gtk-WARNING **: Cannot find theme at al _module: «ubuntulooks»,
(exo-mount:5520): Gtk-WARNING **: Cannot find theme at al _module: «crux-engine»,

I googled this, but all that i found was "chmod a+rwx /dev/cdrom0.. " and things like that, but still dont work

    http://forums.opensuse.org/archives/sls … ost1801686
You could also try with http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=26195 which does the job without the whole policykit mess.

  • Iphone 5 broke switched to old iphone 4 but cant get texts from other iphone users cant do anything with iphone 5 like i said its wayy broke

IPhone 5 broke switched to old iPhone 4 but cant receive texts from other iPhone users cant do anything with iPhone 5 screen does not work

I'm guessing that you turned off the iPhone 5? If so, then are you using the same phone number as the 5? You need to go into Settings>Messages>make sure that iMessage is turned on and activated. Then go the Send & Receive and find out if your current number is checked.

    /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /mnt/dvd udf ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
But i cannot mount the dvd as user i get following error message:

I thought the options "user" allows all users to mount it?

when i try this as user i get following:
    mount /dev/cdroms/cdrom0
    /dev/cdroms/cdrom0: Input/output error
mount: I could not determine the filesystem type, and none was specified

For some reason user cant connect to the DB. some say the are using idap and not tnsnames.ora file. But for some odd reason the idap and the sqlnet.ora file were missing in my $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin location. So i copyed some other server file into here. here are the files.
    # SQLNET.ORA Network Configuration File: /u01/oracle/9.2.0/network/admin/sqlnet.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    #NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN = xxx.xxxxx.net
    #SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (LDAP,TNSNAMES,ONAMES)
    #NAMES.DIRECOTY_PATH= (TNSNAMES)
and here is the idap file
    # LDAP.ORA Network Configuration File: c:\orant\92\network\admin\ldap.ora
    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.
    DEFAULT_ADMIN_CONTEXT = "dc=world"
    DIRECTORY_SERVERS= (oidldap:389:636)
    DIRECTORY_SERVER_TYPE = OID
this is 10g on AIX. As metion i have moved these files from a different server into this box. What is wrong and why cant user connect ???

    Hi,
I think both sqlnet.ora and ldap.ora are in different OS.
    /u01/oracle/9.2.0/network/admin/sqlnet.ora
c:\orant\92\network\admin\ldap.oraI hope listener, ora and tnsnames, ora files are in any one of the OS.
    Regards
    Jafar

  • Single User Mode - mount external drive and make it r/w

How can I access a USB disk and make it read/write?
I can't +mount -uw /Volumes/"Time Machine Backups"+ because it says that the disk is a special type.
Can I just use chmod because the disk is automounted?
When I attempt to chmod my USB disk, I get this message:
chmod: /Volumes/Time Machine Backups: Read-only file system
    chmod: /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/.autodiskmounted: Read-only file system
I know that I can cp from the internal disk, since I can cat the pictures to the terminal. But I can't make the external hard disk writeable.
I need to do this from single user mode, because the machine won't boot from the DVD.
    -Michael

Just got back from the apple store. The genius found these things:
    * My DVD is fine. It loaded in another computer
    * My computer is mostly fine, except for the hard disk. It was able to boot off of an external Firewire disk.
    * The DVD drive is fine. When the computer was booted off the external disk, it was able to mount my DVD.
    * The internal HD is definitely bad. Drag/drop copy to an external HD was going to take 3 hours for about 30 files. Disk Utility shows it in red.
    * He suspects that the failing HD prevented the machine from being able to load a DVD. (?)
    His advice:
1 Buy a new 2.5" SATA disk at Frys.
2 Buy a USB sled for the old disk
3 Replace the failing HD in the laptop with the new, unformatted disk
4 Boot from the OS X DVD
5 Install the OS from the DVD
6 Reboot from the internal HD
7 Insert the failing HD in the sled, and connect it to the computer once it's booted off the new HD. Copy everything from the /users directory
8 But a new HD for the sled and use it for Time Machine backups
9 Teach the daughter the importance of regular backups
    Let's hope this works.

  • Trying to share library across 2 user, cant edit info on users though?

Ok, I have followed instructions to allow all users on my Mac to share the one iTunes music folder. I put the iTunes folder in the HD>Shared>Music folder.
I then added the library to the other use, and can see the music ok. However I click on get info to edit a song, and it wont let me change any info. I've checked the permission on the folder and it says user xx(me) has read and write access.
So why cant I edit it please?
Also this is what Im trying to do ultimately, add a song in either user and then who ever is logged on, can add a song and all users will see it in the iTunes library, also any changes (if I can get it too work!!) to the file info, album art etc, I want changed so all users get this update.
*update* just tried to add an album under my non admin account, and it said cant as dont have write access. But according to the info on the folder (click>get info) it shws (me) to have read and write access.
ive done a repair permissions if that was some issue, please please help
Please help, Im brand new to iMac (Xmas pressie) and always been a Windows user so be gentle!!
    thanks
    Loc

    Hi Loc..
I share my music over 3 Macs..with 4 accounts on each, one for each member of the family..as long as all the itunes are open and they are all set to 'sharing' then everybody can see and play any music on any account on any mac, it shows up as 'shared music' in you itunes sidebar. If my son downloads or imports an album or a cd into his itunes then anyone can play it.
I've tried to keep all the music on the 20" dualcore which frees up memory on the G5 and ibook...it seams to work quite well.
Did a similar thing with iphoto and that works ok, only problem I have had with both setups is Leopards glitchy networking but i'm hoping that will settle down in time, it's still a bit new, I should have waited till 10.5.3 at least...but christmas got in the way..
    Hope this helps
    Chris....

  • [SOLVED]Creative Zen V - libmtp regular user cant access

Anyone know how to configure libmtp so that a regular user (not root) can access the device? I have searched the forum/wiki but didnt find anything usefull.
When I run mtp-detect as root it prints alot of info about the device, so I guess its working correctly. Same command as non-root user gives
    [fester]$ mtp-detect
Found non-autodetected device "Creative Zen V" on USB bus...
    usb_claim_interface(): Operation not permitted
    Connection error.
    No devices.
    [fester]$
Cant access through amarok either as non-root user.
Thanks for any help I get!:D

    LOL...solved it myself
And incase someone else runs into the same problems, heres how I solved it...
Make sure you have libmtp installed "pacman -Q libmtp". Add the udev rule one post above and reboot. Plug in player. Start amarok, then go to Settings->Configure Amarok->Media Devices, click Add Device. Choose MTP Media Device from the pulldown menu, give it a name and click OK. Then click Apply then OK. Amarok should now detect the device and you will be able to add files to the player.
I was clicking Autodetect Device and thats why it wasnt working.... Now I love linux again
