User control over canvas

hello any one tried making a user control eg a textbox on a canvas (low level API), this purpose is to use it in a GUI custom application ,
what concerns me is a event model , Does one have to design a container for these lowlevel componets on a canvas , if yes , how can one do it, Any Design ?
this will only help in making good user defined GUI for any mobile applications.

User control over Flash content?

Speaking strictly as a user, I want better control over Flash content. I am tired of Flash-based movies automatically playing just because I visit a web site - especially with audio enabled. I want to be able to configure my browser so that Flash content cannot automatically start. I don't want to disable Flash entirely, I just want to be in control (regardless of the web site developer's intentions). Is this possible? If I desire to view the animation, I will intiate playback myself.

Ps CS6 Request: User control over display quality versus performance (modified request)

It would be great if there was user control of the zoom threshold at which display quality is sacrificed for performance.
I mean the threshold which determines the maintaining of bit-depth in the calculation of the composite which is displayed when working with 16-bit documents, and the accuracy of displayed layer effects in documents with any bit-depth.
The threshold currently seems to be approx 64% zoom - not much of a zoom out when dealing with large images destined for print.
Please provide a control for that threshold in Preferences > Performance.

Thank you for posting, conroy. I have an example of the inconvenient effects of Photoshop CS6 allowing the zoomed-out composite to be innaccurate.
Here's a real-world application for everyone to see.
In my below example you're not seeing a 16-bit doc, just 8-bit, BTW.
Top C has Layer Styles. Bottom C is a copy that's been merged with a blank layer, to effectively "collapse" it's Layer Styles into a normal single pixel layer.
The difference is staggering. This file is a massize 28x36 300DPI (8,400px X 10,800px) poster.
So on something like this, while working and tweaking everything you work worked zoomed out so you see enough of the document to be able monitor it's evolution.
I was working at 25% zoom (depisted above) for a quite a while. Got everything good, but then zoomed in only to see that each letter actually looked like pretty bad compared to what the zoomed composite was telling me.
I had to revise all letters.
For hi-res print I guess I better get used to zooming in and out constantly, so I know what to trust.
I wonder if this issue will ever be rectified. Like Conroy suggests, maybe a setting that allows users to voluntarily sacrifice performance in favor of a more accurate composite?

Login/Logout sync with user control over folders to sync

We have a user who needs modify the folders that are synced periodically.
The user has multiple computers that they keep synced with OS X Server 10.4.10.
We turned background sync to unmanaged and they are able to modify their settings and left login/logoff sync as managed. Any time they login/logoff auto sync does not occur.
How do we configure their settings so that they can adjust the folders that get synced and still have auto sync at login/logoff?

Not even sure you can do this but you might look for Login/Logout Hooks that can perform the action your looking to do. There would have to be a way to shell-script the Sync part of RHD which I'm not sure you can.
On the Server Side you can control what get auto synced and what does not in WGM. Then you just set it all to auto on login/logout.

User control over Flex availability in the Browser?

Hi all,
New guy to this Flex development. Basic question, I hope.
Comparing Flex to JavaScript, can the user selectively disable Flex in the browser? It would seem a lot of headaches with JavaScript is dealing with this configurable option (I've historically avoided client side scripting because of this concern). I would assume the plugin could be removed and/or disabled? If so, is there an "agreed to" response under such a condition?

When you launch a flex app the html template that holds the swf has a place in it that says 'Flash player required download' and 'Place alternative HTML content here' if no player is detected.
You can put alterative instrucation in here.
There are a few ways and an offical Adobe kit around for detecting flash player versions, and most of these use javascript.
The thing is I weigh it up when it comes to developing an app and Flex is my choice. I like working on the flash platform. I think the biggest bonus is that whatever you do in Flash / Flex its gonna work across all browsers on all platforms. And now with AIR you can also deploy these as desktop apps across all platforms.
My biggest niggle with javascript, css etc, was that different browser seem to treat bits differently. I end up doing hacks ansd workarounds, and usually for the sake of getting it to work in I.E.
Yea server side is your definite way rendering HTML to make sure everyone gets it. However if your taking Rich Internet App, then thats not gonna provide the tools. I;d say when it comes to client side code Flex is tops for me. And one big thing is that Flash has been around for over 10 years and according to the stats installed on 98% on internet connected machines. Thats gotta be good.
Thats just my opinion, but if your client side coding, its Flex for me.

User control over font size?

I wonder if there is a way the user can control the font size
in the .chm file from the viewer. I know you can go to your
internet browser and change the font size there, but this is a bit
convoluted. Is there a control available in the chm viewer that I
am missing?

Indeed you may add a Font button to the .CHM viewer.
Unfortunately, RoboHelp doesn't expose a method to do it easily.
You would have to do it by compiling using Microsoft HTML Help
Workshop.

I'm not sure if CSS font sizes will override this or not.
Additionally, you may wish to try pressing and holding the Alt key
while rolling the mouse wheel (if you have one) as this sometimes
changes the font.

Is there any user control on the iphone anymore?

Ok so I hate the new OS 7 but before you write me off as just complaining please read further:
I have a very hard time reading the phone because of the white backgrounds on everything , I understand some like this. Is there any way to change this?
I also can't read my text very well because of the white on green text bubbles ... Any way to change this?
Can someone please tell me what apple really did to enhance the user experience? And what is an important feature they have added to the new OS that really stands out over the 6 aside from the horrible layout change? I read what they said the new features were and I didn't see anything that wasn't just a cheap trick. Maybe someone can show me something that will revive some bit of like into the phone again?
But back to the settings change. I went to accessibility and upped the contrast and bolt text but that only helps slightly . I inverted the colors and thought awesome but then realized it inverts everything so that won't work. I could deal with black back grounds on everything .
Any help please ? I'm not made of money so I'm stuck with the 5 for a few weeks at least. Every time I use the phone it angers me so it's not a very pleasant experience !!!
Some people really have issues with the eyes and I just want to have a little control over the look of the phone. Really not digging the way it's swiped to delete now and the way they have the search and control panel I can't get a good swipe on those to save my life. Hate is a good word right now.

Those minimal changes do nothing that I asked. I'm not sure why you linked that. I have read the very simplistic, almost null, options of the ios7 . I appreciate the attempt to help. It seems that the answer is NO, there is no user control over the new layout.
My ultimate answer to gaining user control over their phone is to sell the iPhone and buy a galaxy .

Capture a user's mouse control over the player

There is video streaming using RTP to the QuickTime viewer in a web page
The major issue is that the z-index of the player seems to be infinite, not allowing mouse events to be captured over the top of the player
Is there anyway to get around this? I'd like to use javascript to *capture a user's mouse control over the player if possible.*

System.getProperty("user.name")Please note that this property is subject of security constraints (and there're good reasons for this, read the Java Tutorial, Trail: Essential Java Classes, Lesson: Accessing System Resources for details). For example, web applications running inside Tomcat are not allowed to query this property by default. Think twice before doing this, you have been warned!

The newest version of iTunes is awful when it comes to Cloud syncing-file management. I'm constantly frustrated with what iTunes 'chooses to eliminate from my mobile device and settings aren't fine-grained enough to allow for real user control.

I'm endlessly frustrated with iTunes Cloud syncing, something that was supposed to make lenjoying my music easier. I routinely find that, though itunes and podcasts have been split, iTunes arbitrairily removes music files or in progress podcast in favor of 'new' podcasts. The settings are just not fine-grained enough to allow true user control and so we are instead subjected to 'Apple knows best' protocols. I understand and appreciate the level of exacting control Apple excercises over their ecosystem, however, more and more often I see them tightening control over things that should be user control while dropping the ball on aesthetic desisions made in producing their own software (see the hideous pull down tab for iTunes to access Podcast, TV shows, Music, etc.
I would like to see features like those in Mail and the Podcasting apps implemented in iTunes afor the management of content on mobile devices, for instance it would be great to swipe to delete files that you know longer want on your device, at both the album and song level. Another issues is the new pushiness of iRadio and iTunes Store, the app now seems to default to the iRadio page (versus the last page Albums, songs, etc. that the user was navigating, or in the instance of the iTunes Store push, if I doon't have all the tracks of an album i own on my mobile device 'complete my album' takes you to iTunes store rather than showing the 'cloud' download icon next to missing tracks. These are the tactics I expect from Google, not Apple (pushing commerce over quality user experience).
Fix these things Apple, please.

STO- How to control Over delivery with batch split?

Dear All,
In STO Scenario, how to control the over delivery?
I created a PO for the Intra Company stock transfer & Delivery created in the Background with the T Code VL10B. When I am doing picking using T code VL02N, the system is allowing to add more than PO Quantity in batches and system displaying the warning message (Specified quantity is greater than the open quantity/Message no. VL287) & allowing to save the deliver document..
Hence plz suggest how to restrict the same.

I checked OSS notes 548914, 386340,215488 but to no avail.
I suggested user exit USEREXIT_SAVE_DOCUMENT_PREPARE in include MV50AFZ1 to my technical team for finding the resolution. So far it is still on hold.
If you come across any other solution, you can update the forum so that it would be helpful for many others.

Do I have control over "USE flags" when compile from source

I have used Gentoo and like it's system specific customizations, but am looking for something a slight bit easier to maintain. I noticed that Arch also compiles as part of the installation. Do I have control over the system wide compile setting in order to customize the builds similar to what is done is Gentoo? Or, is the pacman process a "one size fits all" installer without customizations, for such things as architecture, with or without certain extensions...

It's a one-size-fits-all approach for the official binary repos and many weird and wonderful things can be found in the AUR or unofficial user repos. You can also use ABS to alter the configuration yourself, but you would have to edit PKGBUILDs for every package you want to change (e.g. add '--enable-foo') as Arch doesn't use the USE flags.
Official Arch packages support only i686 and generic 64-bit architectures, but e.g. linux -ck kernel https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=111715 is provided optimized for many specific processors.

Third party PO control over quantity?

Dear Gurus,
Firstly, user is creating a sales order with quantity as 98 units..
After this, he is creating PO with 98 units and after that he is changing the quantity to 100 units.
Now, he wants to control over this quantity so that it will not allow him to change the quantity.
how can i restrict user to not allow to change quantity so that the sales order qty and po qty will be same?

Once you have created the PO you can only change the PO quantity manually.
You can block as it was explained here but it will affect all POs.
Do you create the PO against a SO?
What you can do is use an user exit to control that. But you need to know the SO which generates your PO.

Movement of a user control that is on an image

I have a Windows 8 app and a user control. The user control moves along my finger in the right left and bottom movements. When I try to move up , the body of User control is there and unless I move out of it , its not moving up.
as u can see in the image that my pointer is on the user control and I am trying to move up but its not happenning. The condition is like , I can click anywhere , the user control appears I can move it anywhere and even if my finger is on the user control
, it should keep moving

In my experience, we can place a Usercontrol and Image control into Canvas control, to make a moveable Usercontrol, we can handle

Get control over JoptionPane ???

I am trying to lock the GUI when session times out , however the JOptionPane dialogs comes out even out of the locked GUI, since I am covering the Layerd pane and glasspane of the frame while lockinig the GUI.
I want to know how can I get control over JoptionPane dialogs from the Frame?

No...actualy...I need to keep the Option panes below my locked GUI.
Ther is a chance that optionpanes can be generated when the gui is locked...in that case also I need hide them until user logs in.
MY problem:
GUI greys out when a specified time is spent without user interation...
in that case I will just lock the gui keeping background thread running and gui will be open as it was ....
once the user credentials are entered again the gui opens up to original state..

Want total control over the size of a button

What do I do if I want to control the size of a button completely and not let something else do it for me automatically? What layoutmanagers allow me to completely control the size and which do not?

For total control over the button size, call container.setLayoutManager(null). This, however, disables all automatic layout; not only will you have control over the size of your button, you'll have control over its position and the size and position of all other components in that container. You'll also have the responsibility to set them.
While this is desirable in some circumstances, you normally want to use a LayoutManager. These managers allow your code to be modified with greater ease and handle a lot of the work for you.
You can always call jbutton.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(x,y));[b] to attempt to communicate to the LayoutManager the size that you would like the button to be. [b]jbutton.setMinimumSize and jbutton.setMaximumSize are also useful. (These calls assume the existence of a field jbutton which contains an instance of the class JButton.)
These, however, only work if the LayoutManager honors your requests; it is quite possible for a LayoutManager to ignore your sizing requests on the objects it is laying out. Most of the managers that Sun provides respect the requests their users make, but many third-party LayoutManagers aren't capable of doing so for one reason or another.
Yet another solution is to write your own LayoutManager. The interface is relatively simple. I personally have been working on a project in which a workspace allows users to move components around. Because of this, the component has to stay where the user put it, although its size should be adjusted according to its needs. I had to write my own LayoutManager for this because none of those that Sun provided properly suited my needs.
Which way would you like to tackle this?
