User dictionary disappeared?

Ok.. ever since the ICS update I've "lost" a few things. I really desperately need to remove some of my mispelled words that the user dictionary saved but I CAN'T find it anymore. I've literally gone under every heading and subheading under the settings section with no avail. Am I missing something? :[ I feel like when the answer is pointed out to me, I'm going to feel completely face-palm ********... but... help? :]

Go to the Settings page and scroll down to and click "Language & keyboard".
Click the equalizer looking thing on the right side of "Touch Input"
Then click on "Personal dictionary" at bottom of page.

  • Disappearing User Dictionary after 4.2 update.

    Hello All,
Ever since updating my iPhone 4 to iOS 4.2, the option to edit my user dictionary has disappeared. As far as I know, its supposed to be under Settings->General->Keyboard->Edit User Dictionary. It is not.

Here's what worked for me: Connect iphone 3G to mac and launch iTunes. Click on "music" tab on iphone in iTunes, all the songs appear in iTunes...double click on a song to play it in iTunes directly from the iphone's memory. the phone displays a message: "hold on, rebuilding database, this may take a while", when database rebuilds, everything works normal and all my music and movies reappeared in the iphone.
An apple programmer probably forgot to make the database rebuild part of the update. But this procedure forced the rebuild and my songs were now recognized again on the iphone.
    Voila!

  • User Dictionary choice snaps back to Main Dictionary choice....

...despite my user dictionary choice showing up in the "currently selected dictionary" window (and, of course, it's one of the user dictionary choices available ans showing in the Appleworks Essentials folder/Dictionaries.)
But every time I prompt "done' and re-open the "select dictionaries" window, my choice has disappeared and has toggled back to the 'main dictionary' window, showing what is chosen as "main dictionary" no matter what I try.
But if I choose my user dictionary when selecting it in the "Main Dictionary" window, it stays, and is usable for spell checking. But switching back and forth like that seems a bit cumbersome to me...
    Any ideas?

Adding to what Yvan has said...
AppleWorks allows you to choose one each of four dictionary types at any given time. Two of these dictionaries, the Main dictionary and the User dictionary, are used by the spell check feature in AppleWorks.
When you tell AppleWorks to Check spelling, the feature compares each 'word' in the document with all of the 'words' in both the (chosen) Main dictionary and the (chosen) User dictionary. If it finds a match, it accepts the word as correctly spelled and moves on to the next word. If it does not find a match, it displays the 'word' as a "questionable word", offers some possible spellings, and waits for you to tell it what to do. If you tell it to 'Learn', then the 'word' is added to the current User dictionary, and will be recognized as correctly spelled in future searches.
The remaining two dictionary types, Hyphenation and Thesaurus, are not used by the spell check feature.
Hyphenation is used by the auto-hyphenation feature to determine where to split multi-syllable words when they extend beyond the available space at the end of a line of print.
Thesaurus offers a choice of synonyms to replace a selected word.
Changing your choice of one type of dictionary has no effect on the current dictionaries of other types.

  • "Offive" in the user dictionary and I can't remove it even after reset the dictionary

    Hi all,
I found that I have a word "Offive" in my user dictionary.
I tried to remove it by resetting the keyboard / dictionary; however, the word "Offive" is still there immediately after I reset the dictionary.
I searched for the word "Offive" in my contacts and calendars.  And, there are no such occurence.
Interesting, the word "Offive" only appears in my iPhone; I have an iPad2, but the word "offive" isn't shown in the iPad at all.
Do you know how iOS user dictionary added this word "Offive" automatically?
When I typed "Offibe", iOS would automatically change it to "Offive" and then informed it's a misspell and I then changed it to "office" by clicking the word "Offive".  This is clumsy.
    Thanks,
    Ting Pong

It wouldn't have been added automatically.  Words are added to the dictionary when you decline autocorrect suggestions.  You just have typed "offive" and then tapped the '"x" to decline the autocorrect suggestion "office" at some point, probably by mistake.

  • Problems with TTS user dictionary with Captivate 8

Hi There, We have installed Captivate 8 on 2 machines at work.  We need to use Neo Speech and will be looking to add and modify pronunciations.  We are having some issues with TTS.  Firstly on my machine I can modify words and save the dictionary but hear messages to say that this is the trial version of Neo Speech.  Is there something else I need to install to avoid this?
My colleague cannot use the dictionary on her machine at all as when she tries to open the user dictionary it comes up with a message to say "TTS failed to load" although she has all the voices installed in the same way as mine. Does anyone else have this problem?  Have any patches been released that our IT department need to install?  Any help is gratefully received as we have a number of big projets with very short deadlines and these issues are really holding us up.  Many thanks

    Hi Janet,
Here is the workflow to change the pronunciation of a word for Bridget voice. you can follow same flow for others too.
    1) open file. "C:\Program Files\Adobe Captivate Voices 8\VT\Bridget\M16\bin\UserDicBre.exe" in your case(win 32)
    2) This will open following window.
    3) Click on file open and select the default file. this will populate word information table on this window. above screen shot i have already selected the file.
    4) if the word for which you want to change the pronunciation is already in the list then just select the word and click on Modify word and then just modify the pronunciation.
    5) In case if you want to add your own word then use add word.
    6) In case you want to override some spell pronunciation just add that word as new word with relevant pronunciation.
    7) Once all the change is done, just click on File Save button and then click on close, if in case again it ask for save then again save it.
That's it.. you have successfully added/changed pronunciation for a word.
To test it just use TTS functionality of Captivate and generate an audio, or even you can spot test using read word functionality.
Hope above steps are helpful and for your colleague's system I am not sure what steps your IT team is opting to install that. In case if possible can you get exact steps. I prefer try in some fresh machine. Let me know whether the above steps are helpful.

  • I want to ask a question. I have an iphone 4.and I need to add thousands words into user dictionary.I means the general keyboard user dictionary.

I want to add thousands words into user dictionary on MAC operate system .then sync it to iphone.
    is it possible?

AFAIK, the system dictionary is not one of the items syncronized between the two devices when using iTumes for that purpose.

  • When I try to use spellcheck, I get the "Cannot find the User dictionary". It has always worked in the past and when I go to choose the main dictionary, it just goes back to the same line, cannot find user dictionary.

Have you ever created a user dictionary? You have to manually create one, AppleWorks won't do for you. The user dictionary & any other dictionaries belong in the AppleWorks Essentials folder which belongs in the AppleWorks 6 folder in Applications.
Deleting & reinstalling AppleWorks from the original disk will not delete your files unless you have saved them in the application folder. The Mac OS creates a separate Documents folder for your files & that is where the documents you created should be.
Unless all of your documents are AppleWorks 6 word processing documents, Pages alone is not sufficient. The iWork applications - Keynote, Pages & Numbers - can only open AppleWorks 6 presentation, word processing & spreadsheet documents, respectively. They will not open any other type of AppleWorks 6 files or any AppleWorks 5 or any version of ClarisWorks files.

  • Import txt file into user dictionary

How to import text file into user dictionary through javascript? I can manually import txt file into user dictionary thru "Edit=>Spelling=>User dictionary...". But I don't know how to do it using javascript. Please advise.

Advice? See in some version of the object-model reference under userDictionary. There you'll find a method called addWord(), which looks promising.

  • Has anyone seen the TestStand 3.5 User Interface disappear during testing?

The user interface disappeared while a test sequence was executing. The Windows Task Manager showed LabVIEW (8.2) and TestStand running but nothing was present on the taskbar for TestStand and the window could not be found. This has only happened once but I am being pressed to explain this hence the question.

    plf,
By user interface you mean an operator interface?
If this is the case, what operator interface are you using?
Have you seen this several times?
What kind of sequence were you executing?
    Regards.

  • Missing User Dictionary

Recently I've texted and have added a lot of words to my user dictionary on accident.
I followed the instructions on the manual and went to
    Settings->Lang/Keyboard->TouchInput->??

    Help would be most appreciated!

Adding a word to the predictive text dictionary
Your phone comes with a list of words that it references for predictive textsuggestions.
Sometimes you may need to add a word to the predictive text dictionary, for example a
name or a specialized technical word.
You can add or remove a word on the messaging page while creating a message.
While entering text using the QWERTY keyboard layout, if you tap any word on the
suggestion list, it is automatically added to the predictive text dictionary if it was not inthe
    dictionary already.
You can also add a word to the list manually:
On the onscreen keyboard, press and hold .
    Tap User Dictionary.
    Tap Add new.
Enter the word to add, and then tap OK.
Editing or deleting a word in the user dictionary
You can edit or remove words that you previously added to the predictive textdictionary.
On the onscreen keyboard, press and hold .
    Tap User Dictionary.
To edit a word, tap the word itself.
To delete a word, tap the X icon to the right of the word.

  • RoboHelp 7 User Dictionary?

Our department has just upgraded from RoboHelp 5 to Robohelp
HTML 7 (as part of the Technical Communication Suite), and I'm
trying to find a way to bring my old version 5 user dictionary into
    RoboHelp 7.
There doesn't seem to be any way to select a user dictionary
in version 7, the online help doesn't provide any instructions, and
I can't find any obvious dictionary files in either my Program
Files or Documents and Settings folders.
Please, oh please, tell me I don't have to recreate the
    dictionary for version 7!

Hi AdamXT and welcome to our community
You posted this question in the RoboHelp for Word category.
Are you really using RoboHelp for Word? Or are you instead using
RoboHelp HTML? If it's RoboHelp for Word, I would think the user
dictionary is specified by Word. So crack open Word and look for
    help inside it.
    Cheers... Rick

  • User Dictionary for hyphenation of unknown language, CS3

    Hi,
With ID CS3, I'm trying to build a User Dictionary for Armenian (no plugin exists for this). Armenian is well typed in the document with unicode chars (not with old fonts with ASCII code).
I tried using many languages (English, French) as selection both in Characters panel and in Dictionary preferences. (I read in help that user dictionary are used only for languages using Proximity as Hyphenation Vendor).
I can add hyphenated words in the dictionary, but the words in the text are not hyphenated.
I guess it could be linked with some  hidden definition of what characters are allowed in each language, hence excluding armenian unicode chars.
Anyway, is there a solution to this ?

    Here's a painful workaround:
    1) Export an RTF from your perfectly styled InDesign doc. (If your styles are less than perfect, this method will cause you lots of pain.)
    2) Open that RTF in Word.
    3) Use Armenian hyphenation macro to insert discretionary hyphens in Word.
    4) Find/replace the discretionary hyphens in Word with some character that won't drop when placing the doc. (Word's discretionary hyphen probably will.)
    5) Resave the RTF.
    6) Place in InDesign.
    7) Find/replace placeholder with InDesign discretionary hyphen.
    8) Clear overrides. (I told you this would hurt if your styles weren't impeccable, didn't I?)
