User differs on ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain,should be 501,owner is 0

I am having sever keychain errors. When I try to verify or repair my keychain, I get this error:
"User differs on ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain, should be 501, owner is 0"
How can I fix this?
Thanks.

in terminal:
sudo chown 501: ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain

It's not an error but an informative message that you can safely ignore. it's innocuous.

When running disk utility, repair permissions, this error message keeps coming up. I have had to repair permissions more than once for this. Why would my printer group change if I am not changing it? What is group 80 versus group 0?

Yes, I keep getting the same thing, on Yosemite 10.10.1 , and it seems to happen multiple times, per up-time session .
Apparently, the group-id-number that is equivalent to "80" is actually named "admin", and the group-id-number that is equivalent to "0" is actually named "wheel", which is the super-user alter-ego of the user-id-number "0" ("root") .

  • New ~/Library/Keychains subfolder?

I've been using OS X  10.7 Lion until today, and I've just bought an SSD for my Macbook (to upgrade from a harddrive) and installed OS X 10.9 Mavericks on it.
So far Mavericks seems great, and there are some sweet little improvements. I've put my old hard-drive in an external USB enclosure, and I'm copying my preferences files over.
During the course of this, it seems like the organistion structure of ~/Library/Keychains has changed.
    On my old 10.7 system I had the files Microsoft_Intermediate_Certificates, login.keychain, metadata.keychain
On my new 10.9 system I have only the file login.keychain and then a separate subfolder called 833385D1-2681-5706-B6E9-8C1BDCA4928E
    In the subfolder are: accountStatus.plist, keychain-2.db, keychain-2.db-shm. keychain-2.db-wal, user.kb
I assume that I can copy over my old login.keychain and all my passwords will transfer, but what is the subfolder with the funny name for?
I can't think of anything I've used (in the last couple of hours of setting up preferences on this new computer) which could have created it. I'm almost tempted to delete the **** thing, and see what breaks.

    Hi Strolls,
Don't trash anything in Mavericks Key Chain.
    The separate subfolder called 833385D1-2681-5706-B6E9-8C1BDCA4928E
Is a unique number that belongs to your computer ... this is new in Mavericks.
More than this I can't tell you.
Wait until some one response to you with more experiance's in using Key Chain in Mavericks.

  • Unable to update ~/Library/Keychains - something else went wrong

Hi users. The message in the subject line is what I get when I try to "verify" or "repair" in Keychain Access. I have been trying to resolve the Safari keychain login issue from posts that I've read in the forums.
    Can anyone help?
Message was edited by: Todd M.

    Hi Todd!
Does your keychain currently work for you? Are you able to at least access its stored passwords?
If not and you haven't been able to use it for a while then I suggest trashing the login.keychain file from ~/Library/Keychains where " ~ " is your home folder. Log out or restart and a new one will be created for you. This will delete all your saved passwords and any certificates you may have stored but all of these can usually be recovered from their original sources.
    Hope this helps!

  • Prompts to use local items keychain, but no numerically named folder in library/keychains folder to delete?

There are. Prompts to use local items keychain, but no numerically named folder in library/keychains folder to delete? What to do?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It makes no changes to your data.
Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ls -@Oaen L*/Keyc* | pbcopy
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear below what you entered.
The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produced no output, the Clipboard will be empty. Paste into a reply to this message.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.

  • FileVault Fails on Yosemite when FileVaultMaster.keychain is present in /Library/Keychains

    Hi,
I've been using the method described here to create institutional recovery keys for deployment our 10.7-10.9 target systems. This approach has worked well in my environment for the past few years; we're a DeployStudio shop and typically include the FileVaultMaster.keychain (prepared for deployment with the private key removed) in a package payload that's delivered to our target systems as part of a DeployStudio workflow.
In testing on 10.10 & 10.10.1 targets with the institutional key in place (at /Library/Keychains), I've found I'm unable to enable FileVault via System Preferences. I do see the expected message indicating that 'A recovery key has been set by your company, school, or institution' but after clicking 'Continue' am not given the option to choose users to unlock the disk. Instead, I see one of the following three "FileVault Failed" errors: "Unable to create a FileVault context", "Boot file not written", or "The given disk is in use by a driver".
I first suspected a problem with the recovery partition restored during the DeployStudio workflow, but I think I've ruled out this possibility: 1) I found that by removing the FileVaultMaster.keychain from /Library/Keychains on a DeployStudio-imaged system, I'm once again able to enable FileVault normally via System Preferences; and 2) I can reproduce this issue by deploying a prepared FileVaultMaster.keychain to a target system on which I've installed Yosemite using the stock installer from the MAS.
Has anyone run into a similar problem with institutional keys in 10.10?
    Thanks,
    -Bill

A bit more testing (using diskutil to compare the status of the recovery and boot volumes before and after trying to enable FileVault) suggests that the boot volume is somehow becoming damaged when I try to enable FileVault through System Preferences (when FileVaultMaster.keychain is in place).
Before trying to enable FileVault: diskutil verifyVolume /Volumes/OS\ X\ Base\ System
The volume OS X Base System appears to be OK
File system check exit code is 0
Finished file system verification on disk1s2 OS X Base System
Before trying to enable FileVault: diskutil verifyVolume /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD
The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK
File system check exit code is 0
Finished file system verification on disk0s2 Macintosh HD
After trying to enable FileVault: diskutil verifyVolume /Volumes/OS\ X\ Base\ System
The volume OS X Base System appears to be OK
File system check exit code is 0
Finished file system verification on disk1s2 OS X Base System
After trying to enable FileVault: diskutil verifyVolume /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD
    Volume header needs minor repair
The volume Macintosh HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired
File system check exit code is 8
Error: -69845: File system verify or repair failed
Underlying error: 8: POSIX reports: Exec format error
I can repair Macintosh HD, but it apparently becomes damaged again on subsequent attempts to enable FileVault.
I encountered a new scenario where the system hangs for a few seconds after clicking 'Continue' to enable FileVault, then reboots (without presenting one of the three error messages described in my original post) and begins encryption, but still without having presented the pane to select users to unlock the disk.
I have verified that my recovery partition version matches that of the OS (when booted to the Recovery Partition, sw_vers returns ProductVersion: 10.10). So far, I've been able to reproduce this behavior on these systems: Late 2008 MacBook Pro, Late 2009 MacBook, Mid 2013 MacBook Air, and Late 2014 Mac mini (straight out of the box with 10.10 and the original, unmodified recovery partition).

    Hi BobRz,
As this is a new issue for me, I believe I had the incorrect approach, maybe you can help me. What I want to do is recover a few files in my desktop, and some information i had on the iCal application and the Mail application as well.As I do not want to do a full migration into this computer (which is not mine) I believe that starting the damaged MBP in Target mode should allow me to search and cop the files I need. But:
    1. Can I open the Ical and mail apps to look for the info I need while reading it as an external HD  ?
    2. Do the target machine (my friends) still need to be updated to ML o Mavs so that it recognizes my MBP as an external drive if starting it in Target mode ? (no migration assistant)
    Thanks.

The files that weren't inside the media folder on the original machine need to be copied over to exactly the same paths as they had on the source machine. See this thread for an ongoing discussion of a similar problem. See also this post on migrating the iTunes library.

When I typed in -/Library/Keychains/  in the Go To Folder box, I got the message  that the folder could not be found.  Possibly related to that, when I did a permissions repair I got this message "SUID file sys/Lib/CoreS...has been modified and will not be repaired.  How can I undo the problems that Mavericks 10.9.1 seems to have caused?

    1. You need to type or paste in ~/Library/Keychains/ and not -/Library/Keychains/.
    2. If the repair permissions message refers to ARDAgent, it's normal.

    Hi All,
We have a client which is swing application and we are trying to
authenticate an user using the weblogic specfic Login module and
authenticate method of the hepler class Authenticate. Right now the Login
Module and policy file reside in the client side. Now if I want to do the
authentication through a session bean deployed in weblogic server, where the
login module should reside(I mean should it be deployed in weblogic server).
    Thanks
    Suresh

Just add ur Login Module jar file (should also contain the configuration
file ) to the weblogic classpath. The only gotcha while deploying it on
weblogic is that weblogic has the jaas kit in weblogic.jar which often
conflicts with standard jaas.jar library (don't know why). So just keep
jaas.jar out of your weblogic and client application classpath.

  • How do I create different iTunes library for different Iphones in a family

how do I create different iTunes library and Syncing Iphone separately using same desktop PC?

The best way to set it up in my opinion is to have each user have there own user account on the computer. This way information is stored separately and easier to locate and navigate through.
If you want to have it this way but would rather go through and log into different iTunes libraries on the same user account follow this article. If you do it this, it would work the same you just want to make sure the correct library is open before syncing the device.

  • Exchange 2010 all mail clients with internal cached and internal non-cached mode users having connection status issues, login prompt -- external is fine either way

    Hello,
I'm seeing an issue that started this past Monday with no recent change to our environment.
External Outlook Anywhere users and Mobile users, OWA users are unaffected.
Internal Users are affected when using Outlook of any version, 2010 or 2013.
-Internal Users normally log into their workstation with their ad credentials, domain joined machines. Outlook opens without credentials prompting ideally.
    1 . Using Cached Mode:
    a. Login Prompts, slowness - Since Monday, users are getting prompted to login. The prompt goes away after logging in at startup. It is also causing high CPU
    on the workstations.
    b. Free/Busy, Out of Office doesn't work. I can, however complete auto-setup for a new user, so autodiscover is not completely down for internal users.
    c. Checking Connection Status shows connecting status on highlighted entry below without ever establishing connection (just goes away).
The outlook icon in the system tray says "Outlook is requesting data from the server":
    2. Using Non-cached mode
    a. No Login Prompt at startup, business as usual
    b. Free/Busy, Out of Office works fine. Autodiscover is fine.
    c. Checking Connection Status shows normal except, it has "casarray URL, then status is referral" it seams to flicker this constantly then go away intermittently.
    d. Main issue in non-cached mode is, sometimes a user will log into windows, open outlook and it will not open and says "server is unavailable. Retry, work offline, or cancel" I can try re-opening, same message.
Only after logging out of windows, logging back in, I can get back into outlook. This is not every time, or consistent with specific users, but random.
    3. Lync Pop up  for credentials often, though entering the password.
URLs are correct. Autodiscover, EWS, etc.
Already tried bypassing our loadmaster load balancer with host files on clients. same issue regardless of casarray node.
Not sure what is going on.
    Josh

You have a hybrid configuration with Office 365, right?  You didn't provide this valuable piece of information.
In Exchange Online PowerShell run this command:
    Get-OrganizationConfig | FL PublicFoldersEnabled
If the value is "Remote" then users with Exchange Online mailboxes are looking to on-premises public folders.  Be sure that you have legacy pubic folder interoperability properly configured.
