User does not respond-after reading countless post i still don't understand

hi. i have been reading post on the 'user does not respond' and i still do not understand. i don't know how to check my ports and how to change them. all of them have been pretty technical. please, is there anyone that can explain it in layman's term?

that is what i get. i read and saw that 5060 is the correct port, is it?

Finder DOES NOT Respond after Restart, Or Shut Down

I am running an iMac G5 on OS X 10.5.4, After a shut down or restart, Finder does not respond, The only thing on my desktop is My HD and Chosen wallpaper. I can launch Apps from the Dock, but not folders from the dock, Not Downloads folder, Documents Folder, Just Applications, which is weird because they are in finder too! Mail starts up when I log in so I can access Mail, I use Firefox, When I click on it in the dock it starts up no problem, after a while Finder does respond, I get all my icons back on my desktop and can access folders. I have Cleared System Cache, Browsers Cache, I ran Disk Utility and REPAIRED Disk permissions. No help. Short of RE-Installing Mac OS X, What Should I do? Is this happening to anyone else??

I have tried the following: deleting the com.apple.finder.plist, deleting the com.apple.sidebar.plist, I have reinstalled the 10.5.5combo update, I have deleted all of my photoshop preferences (possible solution from another thread), and it is still doing it!

Satellite A65 freezes and does not respond after adding of RAM

My laptop Satellite A-65 has been upgrade from 512 MB RAM to 1024 RAM. It recognized additional memory without any problem (as it should be according to manual).
But unfortunately after 1 day it begun suddenly stops, pictures on screen freezes, laptop does not respond at all - only reset (pushing and holding power button) can help. some times laptop is able to work 2 or 3 hours, but then again stops.
Memory place cover is rather hot, fan very often work uninterruptibly. so i can't decide whether problem is in new memory card or not enough cooling or might be in changing of BIOS version (or BIOS setttings) and might be memory becomes full and does not clear itself properly (last remark was found on some forumes).
Experts, help to find exact reason especcially if u had similar problem.

Im not expert but I would recommend removing the new memory module and let run the notebook only with the standard memory module.
If the notebook will not hang and will not freeze then its a very clear case for me.
Either the second module is not compatible or faulty.
In my opinion you should use branded modules like Kingston for example. The quality is much better as a no-name module.

Canon LiDE 100 does not respond after wake from sleep

I have a Canon LiDE 100 flatbed scanner. I constantly put my iMac to sleep and only ever shut it down once every few weeks.
When the computer wakes from sleep the scanner does not respond. Image Capture lists the scanner in the device list but reports the following error;
"An error occurred whilst communicating with the scanner"
I have to unplug the USB cable and plug it back in for it to work (or restart the computer, both always work).
Since I only moved to the Macintosh in July I have no idea how to uninstall drivers to give myself a fresh start and the scanner does not come with an uninstall utility.
Any suggestions on how to fix this little problem?

I am going to respond to my self and say I am nuts.
Canon does not seem to have any uninstaller for this scanner on their site:

Which is rather odd since they have installers. this is different from most of their other older scanners. But if you just plugged in our scanner and things worked in OSX, which it should have, then you should be OK.
However I can confirm that others see this issue (like my dad) and here is the official Canon response to the issue:

+In some cases, coming out of sleep mode may not properly reinitialize+
+the USB bus on Macintosh Operating Systems. Unfortunately, the only+
+work around when this happens is to restart the computer.+
Of course this in not exactly true as logging out and back in fixes it.

I am posting this question with hopes of a personal response from Ralph Johns or Defcom... seems like they are the resident experts on this business. If any one else has ideas I would be happy to hear from you too. I know that there are many other posts on this topic but I have tried all the stuff that I have read and I still can't connect with my dad.
I changed the streaming preferences in Quicktime, I opened the ports that are listed on the support sheet and turned the firewall off, I called into the AIM appleu3test01 buddy and got video back, and we have tried to viideo chat using a different program and were able to. My dad has done all the same things.
The messages that I am getting in connection doctor are as follows:

Dad and I are both using OS 10.3.9 and iChat 2.1. I have a Siemens SpeadStream 4200 modem and no router and dad has a Dlink modem and an airport.
The very first time that I set up the isight I was able to do a one way video chat with him and there were no dramas. The next couple of times we started the video chats and after a few seconds it would cut out. Now we can't get anything at all. Unfortunately I do not know what the settings were when it was working and a couple of things have changed since then: I have since installed the iSight 1.0.3 upgrade and I have upgraded my internet connection from 512kbps Cable broadband to 1500kbps DSL broadband.
I can't think of anything else to try. Please help!

Thanks for the advice guys... but I am not exactly sure which will lead to the quickest solution.
I went to the Speadstream setup page to put the modem into bridge mode as Ralph suggested. Under the Mode menu there were 3 choices: Optus Bridge (Optus is my ISP), NAPT and Full Bridge. Optus Bridge is selected, so I think that the modem is already in bridge mode??? If I changed it to Full Bridge mode it said that I wouldn't be able to access the setup page any more so I didn't do that.
I tried messing around with few of the other settings (ie. disabling DHCP) and I just lost my internet connection all together, so I am not too game to fiddle around with all of that again without some good solid instructions.
So at this point would the best solution be to change the settings on the Airport or is there an easy way to change my modem that I did not see??
Also when I followed the link to see how to change the Airport into a Wireless Access Point the page had moved... so if that is the solution please advise me on how to do that so I can forward it to my dad.

My ipad 2 does not respond after upgrade to ios 8

I tried to upgrade my Ipad 2 to ios 8, which has been said to be copatible. During the upgrade process the Apple logo apeared on the black screen and has stayed there everysince. The ipad does not react on a hard reset and is not identified on connecting to a computer, Apple or PC. Screen stays on untill the battery has been emptied. Apple Store in Munich could not help me and told me guarantee has run out, there is nothing they can do, than to offer me a new Ipad 2 for 200 €. I can not understand, that an upgrade can "destroy" my property.

I had a problem connecting to my exchange server. It turns out that Exchange will only allow ten devices to be partnered to your account at a time. Apparently I have a problem with new phone.(Attending the 12 step program now for treatment.) I had this message in my inbox when I logged in to check the server. "You have 10 phone partnerships out of the maximum allowed 10 partnerships. After you reach the maximum, you can't create additional partnerships until you delete existing ones from your account. To do so, sign in to Outlook Web App, click Options > Phone > Mobile Phones, and delete any unused partnerships." I followed the instructions and delted all the old accounts...problem solved.

Pgms "not responding" after Reader search

Downloaded Reader 9.4.0 recently. Ever since, I've had problems with programs failing to start up when called via PowerDesk or Explorer. The Task Manager tells me that PowerDesk, or the called program, are "not responding". After maybe 30-40 seconds, they respond and run OK. Testing, I have found that this behavior begins after I run a Reader search of multiple PDF files. Once I've done such a search, the problem remains, until I reboot. Upon attempting to shut down, XP finds two Acrobat processes running, and those have to be manually closed to permit the reboot. I speculate that those processes are somehow interfering with the startup of other programs via the file manager. But I don't know that, and I don't know what to do about this. What I do know is that using the multiple-file Search function in Reader precipitates this troubling, "not responding" behavior.

Wiki does not respond after a few days

I have set up the wiki server on a newly bought mac mini (winter 2011) running latest version of Snow Leopard. Authentication is performed through remote Open Directory and Active Directory servers. No third party software installed.
Everything works just fine for a few days (1-2 weeks), but then the server starts to respond VERY slowly. This looked like a memory problem to me (busy processor, low ram, etc), but a quick look at the Activity Monitor shows me nothing's wrong there.
I can reboot and it will go on for another few days, but I wonder if this does not hide another problem.
I'm pretty sure this is a wiki related issue, because we have identical machines, but the ones without web services run smoothly without need for an occasional reboot. Also, I did many fresh install, and the problem always came back.
Anyone has experienced something similar?

This is quite a common problem. The usual cause is inadvertent use of the "mute speech" command via the Trackpad Commander.
To toggle VO speech on and off using the Trackpad, tap twice with three fingers simultaneously.
Otherwise, you can summon up the VoiceOver command menu using VO-H-H, type "PAR" (French for "SPEech" and press Return.
For the Zoom problem, open System Preferences —> Universal Access and make sure you tick the "Zoom follows the keyboard focus" checkbox.
You might also want to experiment with the Screen Image radio buttons lower down the window:
• Continuously with pointer (some people find this makes them seasick);
• Only when the pointer reaches an edge (usually preferred); and
• So the pointer is at or near the center of the image (some people like this).
Have you thought of looking at the French language website http://cecimac.org/ ? It's full of articles and tips for beginners, all in French. There is also a very lively e-mail Forum for Francophone VoiceOver users.

Report Server does not respond after certain idle time

We have an oracle 10g application server on solaris 10.
The report server has the defaul settings for time out , callback etc..
After the report server stays idle for 2 or 3 hours and the first report that comes after that takes around 8 to 10 minutes to generate. The report server engine does not seem to be getting active immediately.
Is there any parameter I can change so that the reports do not get effected.

I have put the idle time out at 300 minutes and the max idle time as 350 minutes. But that does not seem to have helped.And also I have min engine as 1 , max as 10.
Even with the above settings , When the report engine is idle after 30 minutes the 1st report to generate after 30 minutes takes 9 minutes.
please let me know if there are any other parameters I need to change.

8.1SP2 Webserver does not respond after a while

Hello,
I've had this happen several times. Nothing in the logs shows anything
strange. It logs the HTTP requests coming in, but does not return a
response.
The process is still running, and the applications can connect to the
port, but they hang on waiting for a response.
My setup:
Redhat Linux 9 w/ Weblogic Server 8.1 SP2
I'm trying to connect to the /console app, but have also tried to access
the / directory to make sure it wasn't just the console that was hung.

Lenovo T-400 series thinkpad. Mouse on the laptop does not respond after coming out of hibernation.

I have just received the new T-400 series Laptop. In few days I have observed twice that when the laptop comes out of hibernation the mouse stops responding. On both occasions I was forced to restart it.
Has anyone else experienced the same and most importantly can anyone let me know how to fix it?

the keyboard should work regardless of any additional drivers from logitech. that being said, i have installed all the latest drivers and the keyboard is still unresponsive when it comes back from standby. this is obviously some sort of an OS
problem.

Trackpad does not respond after a second when using Keyboard

This problem is still persistent even after setting the SmartSense sliders to "off" and the Option in Mouse and Touchpad Settings to "No Delay". After researching online, some users in other blogs recommended changing the values in the registry, specifically the string called "PalmKms" to 0 value. Is this recommended, or is there another solution? I would rather not change values in my registry, as I do not know how it will affect my computer.

W510 eSATA/USB2.0 combo port does not respond after waking up from sleep mode

Has anyone tried to connect external DVD/CD player or burner to the eSATA/USB combo port and experienced very slow system performance after waking up from sleep mode? It might takes minutes to launch an application program that usually takes just few seconds. My W510 can not even restart. It will just stop at the Thinkpad logo if I tried to restart after waking up from sleep.
The funny thing is if I moved the external DVD/CD player to the USB2.0 port in the back, everything went back to normal. I don't know if this has anything to do with the fact that the combo port has something to do with eSATA.

Recover option does not respond after restart

Documents that were open on sidebar of desktop when computer froze up, requiring reboot, offer a popup with choices: Cancel Discard Recover. When I select Recover, nothing happens. Quit Appleworks tab is grayed out, and Appleworks File tab is grayed out, so I can't create a new document to try transferring. Always before Recover brought up the document, I could Save, and it was fine.
Probably relevant: yesterday after updating files in a thumb drive, I extracted the drive without first selecting the icon to close the drive; this degraded the files in the drive, which I then replaced by again updating files from desktop.
If you answer, please be detailed. I am not tech savvy. Thank you!

What I finally did was select DISCARD and the files opened. Perhaps that just discards the most recent junk without hurting the main body of data.
