User-exit ESS / MSS

Hi all,
first of all, I'm not quite sure if this is the right forum, but I'll give it a try anyway. When using ESS / MSS Web Dynpro for entering hours in CATS it seems that none of the user exits, which were created for entering hours in CATS via SAP GUI, are 'used'.
Do we have to do some additional settings, or is this a WD problem in general, or......?

We are implementing ESS/MSS in NW04, EP6 SP13 and want to find out if there is a way to load the appropriate roles to user assignments automatically? We will have 5,000+ users.

You need to do this from UserAdministration->Export.You can choose the details of the users you need to export.
The text file you are using incase of importing users should look like this (below).
uid=username
group=groupname(if needed)
email_address=
first_name=
last_name=
department=(if needed)
provide values for all these fields. all of them need to be seperated by semi colon.Repeat this for the no. of users you require.Once this text file is ready you can import it from UserAdmin-Import users.
here give the path to this text file using the browse tab and then import.

What is the difference b//w R/3 user and Portal user in ESS/MSS

Hi All,
How do we create ESS R/3 Users and ESS Portal Users. How does these users merged with each other. General process of user creation in both the end's.

You dont need to create ESS users seperately in portal. It can be created in R/3 like any other user ids. By using R/3 User management engine in Portal, you will get all R/3 users there as well. so no need to create seperate users in portal. When you login to portal, you are also logging into R/3 using SSO tickets.
To make use of HR functionality, user ids have to be mapped to Personnel no. in Infotype 105 subtype 0001.

User does not exist while accessing ESS/MSS services

Hi Experts,
I have super admin rights, ESS & MSS roles assigned to me. The services under ESS/MSS are not working in development server & production server. It is working fine in Quality server.
earlier it was working fine in dev server.
Now when i am clicking on any of the services under ESS/MSS say for eg: ess-->leave request -->leave request(service)
i am getting the following error. I have posted this question earlier but not yet solved

I have specific authorizations in the backend too
The overview page of both ESS & MSS are opening, area page is opening properly. this error is displaying only when i click on the services in the area page.
pls tell me how to access these services without this error???

The user ID in both the portal and backed are same and the same user is existing in the infotype 0105. with start date 1.11.2007 and end date as 31.12.9999
the user ID in portal created on 06.11.2007
when i checked the start date in the backend, it was not mentioned.
So i changed both the backend start date and infotype 0105 date to 09.04.2008 and end date as 31.12.2008.
still i am facing same problem. any help pls

Open the door and let them in. *grin*
Not sure what you are really trying to ask. ESS and MSS are just grouped content in the portal itself. Your portal users will have portal ROLES assigned to them for ESS and/or MSS. These in turn will tie to backend security roles in ECC.
Now, "where" your users come from will depend on your portal configuration...like setting them to be authorized via Active Directory, an SAP system, etc.
Kinda like this....

Hi,
You need to have SSO in between ECC and portal and use ABAP engine as your UME.
then ECC users can directly login to portal using the same user id and password.
Or you can create the ECC system in portal and user mapping should be done for every user to the ECC system.

ESS CATS User Exit

Hi ,
We are using ESS - Record Working Time service to track employee time.
We have used CATS user exits CATS0006. The standard ESS functionality calls this user exit on "check" , "save", "release" "refresh" actions on ESS screen. So the functionality in the user exit is executed multiple times and this does not work in our scenario.
Is a way to perform certain actions upon saving the time to the database from ESS ?? or how can I distinguish between "check" and "save" actions in the user exit.

You may simply check SY-UCOMM to determine which action has generated the execution of your User Exit.
The value of this system variable will provide you the information of function that was called by the user.

ESS/MSS limit of concurrent users

Hi,
I have to implemantation the ESS/MSS in sap with SOA. I would like to know : How many users will be accessing ESS at the same time? In particular, how many should be the concurrent users ( to do the same activity ) will be accessing ESS , to ensure the server response doesn't deteriorate? ( Side web frontend )

hi.
i tried to draw a picture with a typical ess scenario. from the browser to the abap backend.
it's not too sharp but i think you will see what i mean.

You see that you need lots of infrastructure. All parts need - more or less - resources. If there is heavy load you need more cpu and ram (for example adding more server processes on the as java of the portal) but you also have to configure the web dispatchers, the as java, the as abap (icm). Thats the architecture for the ess service. It doesn't help when asking "how many people can call a time sheet on abap". you have to look at all components...
If i were you and i do not know lots about the load i would start conventional (not completely oversized). It's a process to get a well performing system. You always have to make corrections when running productive. thats the job we love :o)))

ESS Pa30 user exit

Hi All,
I am new to Portal and ESS but need to duplicate a user exit we have on PA30..
I.e. we have an exit that catches when a users benefits are updated and loads a custom table, as well as a few other things, i was hoping the when this info was updated on ESS that it would fire the same exit, but it does not it is directly getting updated without trapping the user exit.
So thoughts on what exit ESS calls when you update PA30 info?

i did try implementing that badi, as well as HRPAD00INFTYBL
but i am finding that they only catch on the review and modify step, not the save step.. i may be using the wrong method, but i don't think so.

ESS CATS user exit not triggered

Hi,
I am making some validations on the time sheet using enhancement cats0006, but that user exit is not triggered in the portal, in ESS.
I have my project activated through tr. CMOD, the user exit is triggered in R/3 using transaction CAT2.
What could be the reason ?

ESS/Mss user creation

Hello,
We are implementing ESS/MSS for our client.
Objects have been finished in Development and Quality.
Now we need to move things to production.
Now there is one doubt in my mind.
As per our client there will be around 100 SAP Users who will get SAP GUI installed on their machine.
But for ESS MSS all the employees of organization will be eligible.
Which will be around 500.
Now my doubt comes with Licensing issue.
How does SAP tackle such situation.
As a implementer of SAP do I have to bring some practice into consideration.
Does SAP charge for every licence they give to client at same cost !
All employees will not require SAP GUI on their machines. They will only access ESS/MSS.
We use same UME database for R/3 and Portal system.
Please clarify on my doubt.

As an implementer for ESS/MSS.... I have made separate roles in R/3.
For ESS:
Z_SAP_EMPLOYEE_ERP (Copy of Composite role....given by SAP for ESS)
For MSS:
A separate role in Portal.
And one role in R/3 with following authorization objects for ESS and MSS:
B_NOTIF    <OBJ> Follow-Up Functions for General Notifications
I_QMEL     <OBJ> PM/QM: Notification Types
PLOG       <OBJ> Personnel Planning
P_HAP_DOC <OBJ> Appraisal Systems: Appraisal

BADI'S & User-Exits for ESS Claims

Hi All,
Can anyone provide me the list of user-exits & BADI that gets triggered when claim is raised from ESS.
Example when user click's on apply button.
I want to do certain validation when employee raises the Claim from ESS.

Dear SDN'rs
I wanted to check out the licencing issues with ESS/ MSS. I wanted to know if i have to take equivalent number of licences to the number of employees accessing the ESS options .
It would be great if i can get some guidance on this issue.
