Welcome to Apple Discussions:
Do you mean the System Preferences Panel? Under Accounts?
There is no systems preferences folder that I know of.
Does your home icon show up in Finder on the left under Places?
You need to better describe what the problem is.
I'm sorry, Yes I mean the system preference panel icon on my desktop. Under Accounts..
Only that it is the Accounts that has disappeared. I'm still not sure if I've described it accurately..

  • I guess I didn't explaine that I have a healthy operating Windows 8 Boot camp partition on my hard drive. When I upgraded to Mavericks I am no long able to access the bootcamp partition from the disk icon in system preferences; the Windows 8 works fine.

On both Mini Mac and iMac 27" I am no longer able to utalize the Startup Disk icon in System Preferences; the Windows 8 on Bootcamp partition works fine if I close the Mavericks OX and select the Windows partition at bootup from the hard drive. My question is why don't the icon in System Prederences work anymore since I upgraded to Mavericks. Also, Users & Groups, Printers & Scanners icons no longer work either.

  • System Preferences Folder

I've lost my System Preferences folder on my mac & need to know how to get it back.

    Welcome!
This may not be the same problem at all - it's hard to tell from what the OP has posted so far!
In your case, if the application is still there but won't open, it would probably not help to use Pacifist to reinstall it.
It may be that your system needs little more than a bit of maintenance. Try repairing permissions with Disk Utility (in Applications>Utilities), and if that doesn't work, download a copy of YASU from www.versiontracker.com and set it to run all tasks, then leave the system alone for about 10 minutes while it runs and reboots. Reboot will take longer than usual and the system will appear slow after that for a few minutes, but that should fix it.
If it does not, download a copy of Preferential Treatment (again from versiontracker) and set it to scan both system-level and user-level properly lists. If it finds any that are problematic, let it remove them.
If none of the above helps, post back with details of what you did and what happened.

  • Can't access Users & Groups in System Preferences :(

I can't access Users & Groups in System Preferences please help thanks

    Check the following:
First, do you see the "User and Group" icon?
If not, open the "presentation" menu and look under the "personalize" option to see if the icon is uncheck.
Second, try to set a new account and see if you can access it from that account.
    Repair disk permission

installed download of Yosemite and now have message saying "Wi-fi: no hardware installed"  Also do not have a wi-fi icon on system preferences menu.

Is it in your applications folder (look in UTILITIES)?
    If not, reinstall the OSX.

  • Strange "speech" icon in System Preferences

The "speech" icon in System Preferences looks like a white oversized box with a lightswitch in it. The word "speech" is cut off along the bottom of this box-like icon.
Any ideas as to what might have caused this, and if I can fix it? Thanks!

    Hi, JdotL.
    1. It sound like the Speech preference pane file has been assigned the icon for System Preferences. Does Speech preferences open if you click this?
    2. Try removing System Preferences preferences and caches:1. Quit System Preferences if it is open.
    2. Open your Home > Library > Caches folder, then trash the following two files therein:
    - com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
    - com.apple.preferencepanes.searchindexcache
    3. Trash the file
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
in your Home > Library > Preferences folder.
    4. Trash the file
    com.apple.systempreferences.xxx.plist
in your Home > Library > Preferences > ByHost folder, where xxx is an alphanumeric string.
    5. Empty Trash.
    6. Launch System Preferences and see if the problem is resolved.3. As a general checkup, I suggest you run the procedure outlined in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified.
    Good luck!

    thefarky,
Quit System Preferences if it's running and trash the following file:
    Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Caches/com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
Then launch System Preferences and hopefully the Security Icon will return to normal appearance.

  • Move System Preferences Help file back into System Preferences folder?

How do I move System Preferences Help file back into System Preferences folder.  I unintentionally moved it.  My Mac blocks putting it back.  Suggestions?  Thanks!

Somehow I managed to delete my System Preferences shortly after upgrading, and was able to use the 10.4 one for a while until I applied the patch. Luckily, I already had Pacifist, and with your directions I was able to get close enough so that I could find the Applications folder within the ContentsofEssentialsSystemSoftwareGroup > ContentsofEssentials.pkg > Applications > SystemPreferences.app.
For that, I owe you the deepest gratitude and a gigantic THANK YOU. My System Preferences is now fully reinstalled and working wonderfully.
Pacifist might actually be worth purchasing.

  • TA20605 the system preferences folder is missing

Until step 9 everything works ok but at step 10 after I shoose ''all applications''  and locate the application folder, I can 't find the system preferences folder anywhere. What should i do?

Are you really using Mac OS X 10.1?  If not, please state the Mac OS X version.  If you select About This Mac (from the Apple menu), it should show the version of Mac OS X.
System Preferences is not a folder.  It is an application.  If it is not in the Applications folder, you may have accidentally deleted it, or maybe moved it, or maybe renamed it.

  • Why is there not a MobileMe icon in System Preferences on my Dome?

My MacBook Pro laptop has the MobileMe icon in system preferences but the Dome does not. Both hosts contain the latest software. Will this prevent the two hosts from syncing?

You've posted this in the iSync forum - the MobileMe forums are here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=116
(iSync has nothing to do with MobileMe syncing, or the MobileMe icon in System Preferences).
You might also want to clarify what you mean by "Dome" - probably means something to you, but nobody else!

  • Software Update icon in System Preferences changed

Never seen this before. This morning I noticed that Software Update icon in System Preferences changed from the regular one to a BIG switch. Noticed this only in MBP.

I got it back. I moved Software Update preference pane from /System/Library/PreferencePanes to Desktop and moved it back. The original icon is back ! Ofcourse I ran Disk Permissions after checking.
