User ID & log in fix... to preserve or not preserve during the fix?

OK I have the same problem as most everyone else here but am not sure which preference to choose during the archive and install fix suggested by most everyone. So which option should I choose before I embark on this crazy bug fixing adventure.
Details: I upgraded to Leopard... Lost one of my four user log ins (the one with 8 or more characters in the password. Still have admin access via another user account (lucky me) but I want to get my other user log in back so the Re-install with Archive & install options seems to be working for most folks but am getting conflicting advice about weather to choose the "preserve option" or not

I installed Leopard yesterday and had this problem - only said "Other..." and I could not sign on. None of the "gobbledygook" methods helped - a bit scary anyway. This morning I spoke to the local Apple supplier, who suggested to re-run the install, but click on "Options" and select "Archive & Install" - the default is just "install", which is what I ran.
At the end of the "Archive and Install" the user names were back, and everything seems normal.
I had the "Other" problem as well. Re-installing and selecting "archive & Install" in the "options" fixed it for me! Brought back all five users and their passwords (including the ones I had changed trying to fix this problem using the DVD install "utilities" and the "password reset" section.

I actually found that when I selected the drive to install to I did not double-click it to give me install options of keeping previous logins, once I reinstalled with this option, everything worked fine
einstall with archive method under options.
You have to reboot first with teh disc in the drive. Hold C the whole time.

If you boot back up to the install disk, go to the Utilities menu then Password reset program. Select your hard drive and the drop down list for user accounts is empty, you could do the follwing to resolve the issue without looseing your personal files. Might take awhile though.

When this is done you'll be guided through to make a new user account
Once in the new user account you go to /Previous Systems/<date and time of the A&I>/Users/<your home folder> and get all your files back

I had one account vanish in this way. This is what I did. In this case the missing account had a user name of bradleyross.
I logged in using an existing administrative account. You don't want to use the account that you create until after all of the files have been moved and had ownership updated.
1. Create a new account with a short user name of bradley.
2. Go into the terminal window and set the current directory to /Users/bradley
3. Delete everything in the bradley home directory
sudo rm -R /Users/bradley/*
4. Move everything in /Users/bradleyross to /Users/bradley
sudo mv /Users/bradleyross/* /Users/bradley
5. Change ownership to all of the files in /Users/bradley so that the owner is bradley
sudo chown -R bradley /Users/bradley/*
6. I was then able to log in to the bradley account and had all the files and settings from the bradleyross account.
7. I had to change a few shell scripts so that they contained /Users/bradley instead of /Users/bradleyross. I don't think that this will be a problem unless you have edited some UNIX shell scripts yourself.
Make a copy of everything in /Users/bradley and /Users/bradleyross before you start
I'm typing this in on a workstation at the Apple store at Christiana Mall in Delaware and typing this in from memory. I don't think I made any typos above, but look before you run.

If you have imported the source code you could use a workaroud i have found. Create a new workspace and a new Project. In it create with the wizard a new Struts Controller Page Flow. After, create a action class, and some jsp pages.Then put some Struts components with the Components Palette.Be sure that in the newly created pages, jdeveloper has put the struts taglib. Now you can rebuild your project.
It seems that jdeveloper does some internal libraries configuration, but when you import the source code, it doesn't do it.

The backup is located at: iTunes/Preferences/Devices. Select the backup from the window and hit the delete key. Then connect your iPhone to your computer. It'll take a new backup.

Pages 4.3 is the most recent, but no matter. If Pages cannot open it, there are many other programs that may be able to. Some of them are free.

OpenOffice (completely free)
Try TextEdit also. It is included in OS X.
If you are trying to open the document by double-clicking it, don't, since the Finder may be looking for a program that is no longer installed. Use Pages' File > Open... menu. The same recommendation applies to using any of the above alternatives - use their File > Open menu.
The least attractive alternative is to purchase Microsoft Word, but I have been completely Microsoft-free since updating to Lion.

How It Was Fixed (Possible Software Bug Not Hardware): Getting the iMac Screen/Menus Garbled and/or Yellow Circle Before Getting Into Finder Issues?

Hi. Possible fix done to my late- 2009 iMac's screen/graphics issue that may work God willing, hopefully for most [In my case it sometimes had that yellow circle that appears before it goes to the Finder but mostly it was a messed up desktop and menus (unreadable mostly) after months, prayers and weeks of fixing it; recommended to be read entirely first coz' it's a bit complicated (like a lot of subplots). If uncomfortable to try coz' it involved a GPU stress test, contact your authorized Apple service center for their advice]. I had an iMac (late 2009) screen garbling a few hours ago (was weeks ago when it resurfaced until it got worse that it's at every boot on Mavericks):
† I booted to Snow Leopard USB external (my back-up OS) drive then run the first person shooter at redeclipse.net. I set everything to max, including the display, resolution and graphics setting with fullscreen and v-sync on. I then refreshed it which brought it back to normal (I then tested it's stability with GPUTest 0.7 with Furmark for 15 minutes). * if the display options have been set to max before, bring it back to the default then refresh and then max it again Possibly any games that's has the graphic settings (or more advanced) of Red Eclipse could work (other free ones are Xonotic and Open Arena which are based on Quake 1 or 3s engine I believe).
Optional but not recommended (have warrantied if that's still available or have it repaired at authorized service centers):
If that doesn't work, review articles and videos on how to open an Intel iMac and get an iPhone/iPad/another way to get to the 'net ready for research (I opened mine very carefully on the right side with a cutter with blade extended far prying it carefully then I inserted a flat end, sturdy plastic used for mixing epoxy then removed the cutter carefully to let the plastic mixing tool do the prying) to see if the cable connected to the logicboard which is on top of, is connected (mine was detached but I'm not sure if the adjusting and tilting of the screen overtime for 2 & 1/2 years, detached it) then do † above again.
It could to be a software problem, a possible Apple ATI driver bug that takes overtime to surface (2 1/2 years it resurfaced because this started in my case after upgrading to Lion when Apple coded things mostly from the ground up. Snow Leopard didn't have this problem).

Does an external display also act in a similar manner as the internal one?
Some earlier Intel-based iMacs had graphic processor card issues; not sure what
the symptoms of the majority of them were, but some had odd patterns, others
went black, and some would range from OK to totally unusable. Among others.
So there is a chance the graphic processor may be going out; or just the circuitry
that controls the backlight. An inverter may be weak or other circuit to the display

If you have access to an Apple Store with Genius bar, they can perform some kinds
of diagnostic tests there even though the computer is out-of-warranty; that may be
of help to narrow down the cause of the symptoms you've noticed. They may not be
able to repair it, however, at an Apple Store; as it is rather old by today's standard.

the Apple Store's Genius and other may not be set up to handle due to vintage.

You may be able to get an idea about what kinds of parts support the display
function by name by looking into an iFixit.com repair guide for your iMac series.
Hopefully the parts supporting the display are the reason it is dimming down, as
a graphic processor failure likely would exhibit other behaviors than just dimming.

I constantly have to re-log-in on websites (like Gmail, yahoo, etc) during the same session. I get logged out within 15-20 minutes, or using different tabs.

In settings, I allow cookies for these sites, and I don't have this problem with Chrome or IE (hate IE!).
If I open another tab and am there for a minute, then go back to my email (gmail), then I have to re-log-in. This happens to other sites that I have to log into, too (shopping sites, yahoo, etc). Sometimes it does it while I am in the middle of typing an email. FRUSTRATING!!!

Alright my problem has been fixed but i will not be updating the program

Alright to put this is short terms-i was at my aunts house on her wifi (not my home router) and i upgraded facebook to 2.2 (like it said to) and i putted it in off mode because i didnt want the battery to drain while in my laptop case with my computer and i took it out last night it wasnt acting right so i plugged it in to my laptop (with windows vista) like normal then i tried my iwake and i fingured it was nothing intil it wouldnt stop doing it when i powered it up later to come to find out my ipod touch (2nd gen) went into recovery mode last night i didnt know what any of that meaned intil i fingured it out,tryed itunes last night as well.. but come to find out the facebook app caused my ipod touch's hard drive to die and go into recovery mode (Iboot) i think it's called but i am not sure after finding out my computer wouldn't let me restore the ipod (kept giving me error codes 6 sometimes 13 & 20-)
so i fingured i would look for the lastest update and try a new way and it worked! finally i was able to get it out of recovery mode, its now sync (simple fix) i was looking around on how to get it out of recovery mode (i fingured it out) basicually what happened my ipod got stuck in recovery mode and i could not get it out which is totally understandable..after thinking about it i fingured i would try to reinstall the update so i forced my ipod touch into another mode besides recovery mode and reinstalled the software and i know what killed my ipod touch!! i am so happy but i do not recommed updating facebook!! thats what killed my ipod touch!! please do not upgrade facebook it will put your ipod touch into recovery mode and really mess u up!! apple needs to fix it because it caused my ipod to die basicually (stuck in recovery mode) and i am really happy its just working again!! i got to reload my music but thats no big deal i bought it back to life yhay me!! =D don't worry!! be happy and do not upgrade facebook it will kill your ipod touch (get it stuck in recovery mode) if you are stuck in recovery mode and i'll help you the best i can if your stuck in recovery mode!! =D
also if you cant get into recovery mode or you keep getting errors 13,6,20- you have to hold down the home button &power off/on button for 10 seconds then quicky let go of the power button and then hold the home button for 10 seconds intil the screen goes completely black & then when clicking restore hold down the shift key and a menu will come up (you'll need to download the lastest upgrade) and then click restore and it will fricker white screen and the apple logo will come up and then it will start restoring your ipod touch i cant really explain it but just watch it on youtube!!
also intil then i though oh my god i did something wrong but shocky i found out what caused my ipod touch to crash and i am not putting it on my ipod touch again and i think that its not my fault it crashed but i remember upgrading my facebook and then putting it in my laptop back (powered off) and i go last night to listen to music and my ipod was freaking out and i didnt understand why, intil last night i remember upgrading facebook.. and thats what caused all my problems and if anyone else has this issue please let me know i dont want to feel like i am the only one with this problem or something like it!! tyvm!

im not meaning to be rude here, (and i hope this post won't get removed by apple) but i found that post so difficult to read i gave up after the first paragraph. i can cope with the odd spelling mistake (especially as i accept there are often non-english speakers who use these boards - you don't specify), and generally speaking i don't mind people getting things like punctuation wrong. but a complete lack of it?
your sentences are very long, and it is difficult to work out what your point is a lot of the time.
*a bit of friendly advice* - if you don't speak english very well, keep your sentences shorter. if you do, put a bit of punctuation in at least! few more full stops will do.

How do I fix an error message, "not available in the us store"?

Mac 10.6.8, iTunes 10.3.1 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7, with 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3. Error message occurs on wireless and when plugged into ethernet connection.

All I am trying to do is access the store, I have not even tried to view anything and I cannot change my view and cannot get into the store?! I am able to view iTunes University material, but as for music, movies, TV shows, app store, books, podcasts or ping, all same message. If I try to sign in, I am receiving an unknown error message...

What's the best way to check whether a user is logged in or not?

I have a question about basic session handling.
I'm running Tomcat 5.0.30 and have a web application where users can register with a username and password, and then log into a "member site".
What is the best way of making sure that a user actually has logged in or not?
What I've done in previous applications I've made is that I've just put a simple variable into the users session after he has successfully entered his password (i.e. Boolean loggedIn=true). Then I just test if this flag is true to grant him access to the member site. Is that a smart way of doing it?
Are there any libraries I can use which handles sessions for me in a secure way?

Maintain a flag using session attributes it to one when the user is logs in set it to value.... and change set it zero or invalidate that session... when the user is logged out...
use something like this while user had logged in
session.setAttribute("flag",<unique_number>);
for checking whether the user had logged in or not...

To find out the number users that logged in to SAP in previous months

Hi !
Is theer any report or transaction in SAP that will or can tell us as to how many users had logged into SAP syatem say in the month of May or June . They want to know the total number of users that had logged in to SAP in previous months to to track the user information and how many users are not using the SAP or how many ppl using it to keep a track of teh user certificates that may be re-sed or just for information purpose also. Right now I have found a trabsction AL08 but that just gives information of present login , I would like to get it for previous months if possible.

Desktop state is idle while user is logged in

Hi,
I'm using VDI3.1 EA2. Today I configured some new pools in flexible mode. After some evaluation I noticed that the "desktop state" in the VDI WebGUI changes to "idle" while there's still a user logged on to the desktop. As a result, the desktop is reassigned to other users that also can connect to the desktop, but not login.
So, how does VDI check if there's a user "working" on the desktop? I'm using VMware VC as desktop provider. All VMs are Windows XP.
Any ideas?

Hi Julian,
a combination of the vda tools and the vda service is responsible for deciding that a desktop is idle and available for recycling. The vda tools are responsible for detecting that no users are logged in and this fact is communicated back to the vda service using VMware guest properties. Most often, problems like the one you describe are related to some kind of issue with the vda tools.
So, the first question is, do you have the vda tools installed on your XP guests ?
If so, did you install the vda tools provided with the VDI 3.1 EA or some other version ?
Assuming you've got the correct version of the vda tools installed, can you check that the vda tools service is running on your guests ?
Additionally, it's worth looking at the Event Viewer on your guest for events related to the vda tools.
