User library folder gone

after installing Lion, my user library folder doesn't show up in finder. I can see it in Terminal. Suggestions

After today's updates, user/library folder has gone hidden as a system folder...is that normal? Tried repairing permissions, but still is hidden. Should I worry? thx!

If you can't cope with the Option+Go method or need the Library during more complex operations, you can enter the following command into Terminal:
chflags nohidden ~/Library

Where did the User Library folder go?

I installed OSX 10.7 yesterday and was quite excited to do so, and by day two I am regretting it. whether it is the uslessness of launchpad, to all of the old things i find missing. One thing i just noticed was that i cant find is the User Library folder. The system Library folder is there but not the user. am i missing something? oh and getting rid of front row? why? i watched trailers there all the time!...sorry sorry...off topic. grr

User Library folder has 112 GB...something must be wrong!

Hello, I have a Macbook Pro with a 250 GB hard drive. It has been running slow so I checked available memory--less than 4 GB. I have 40 GB music, 40 GB photos, and 4 GB movies. Nothing else seems to be taking up much room..then I found that the Users/Library folder was the culprit--112 GB. However, I ordered the folder in the Library by size, and the folder taking up the most memory had less than 7 GB, and most others have less than 1 GB. This is so weird...can't find where the 112 GB is? Has anyone else had this problem?

No. That's a way of expressing locations (paths) of items in Mac OS X; it comes from its Unix roots. It means, "the hidden folder named '.OfflineCache', located in the folder '[email protected]', which is in the folder 'Mail' in the folder 'Library' in your Home folder". (Of course, wherever I write "[email protected]", you must substitute the actual Gmail account.)
In Finder, empty the Trash, then invoke Go > Go to Folder, or ⌘⇧G. Insert in the 'Go to the folder' field the path
~/Library/Mail/[email protected]/.OfflineCache
(make sure not to make any typos), and click Go. Finder should go there and the previously hidden folder should now be visible and highlighted. Move it to Trash, and restart. Launch Mail again and make sure everything is OK. Mail should re-create the off-line cache and stop making copies of the same message. If everything is fine, you can empty the Trash and continue housekeeping, including removing all those unnecessary copies of the problematic e-mail message.

Users library folder is missing

I have two users set up, in my principal user account (has admin rights) I can see all folders EXCEPT the Library folder, I only discovered this recently when wishing to delete a preference file from this users library. The other users library is visible as normal.
I have only recently noticed this and attribute it to a change since:-
Updating to 10.5.5
Starting to use Time Machine
Or possibly changing the computers short name some weeks ago
I had not needed to look in the users Library folder prior to now so am not sure when this folder "disappeared" or became hidden.
Can anyone suggest why and/or how I can make this users Library folder visible so that I can delete the preference file that is corrupt.

Thanks Neil - Problem solved and I´ve saved a couple of new Applescripts for checking and reset in case (and when) this happens again.
Lets hope Apple discover the reason for random changes to file flagging and apply to a future update.

I need to access one folder in user library folder from my time machine backup......but it won't show a library folder

I need to access one folder in user library folder from my time machine backup......but the backup disk won't show show a library folder.
Pressing option-go only directs me to the current library folder in my hard drive. I have opened up the saved disk image and need to copy one folder and put it into my current library. Trying to restore using time capsule won't let me into the user library either......

The Saved Application State folder is where Lion stores all the information required for its resume feature to function as it does. As you are looking for a specific saved game folder it will not be in the Saved Application State folder. This folder was not present in Snow Leopard so wouldn't be present on your backup previous to the Lion install.
The game saves you're looking for will most likely be located in the Application Support or Preferences folder.

Restoring User Library folder from Time Machine

I have tried finding my User Library folder in Time Machine, but no luck.
I have managed to find the User/Library folder in normal view and have dragged it into the Sidebar.
It is now visable! Great.
But when I enter Time Machine and go back in time, it goes gray and you connot see it or it will not go back in time.
In other words I am unable to access my backed up files: Address Book, iCal, Mail, Keychains etc.
Any suggestion much appreciated!

How do I get another users Library folder visible?

I'm struggling getting Lion to work properly on one of my Macs. Successful installation on 3 other machines, but this one is driving me nuts. It basically lost my passwords and I've had to create a new account in order to use the machine.
Anyway, at this point I've got one user account setup for myself and I can log in and out with that one. Problem is the other user account on the machine, which is my old one, has all my Library files I'd like to copy to this "new user." This includes, for instance, dozens of Mailboxes I saved "on my Mac" for use in Mail. Rather than have to recreate all those mailboxes, and then find the proper emails to copy to them, I want to simply copy the ones I've already created to my new user Library folder.
I know how to make the Library folder visible, and have done that for my "new" account. But the mailbox folders/files I want are in my old user account and I can't figure out a way to make that Library folder visible since I don't have my old password.
When I try to reset the password for the old account, it refuses to do it.
Is there some way in Terminal to navigate over to the directory where my old, now hidden, Library folder lives and make that one visible?

I desperately need to access my User Library folder in Time Machine (Lion so = not visible).

Hi. I installed Lion a few months ago and got a new external drive to back up Time Machine.
Nobody told me the User Library would be made hidden in the new OS. I have been backing up regularly in the belief that all my work, settings and so on was safe.
Yesterday my iMac (27" 2.8 Ghz Core it with 4 gib memory) suddenly went mad. Message saying finder had quit whilst trying to restore windows. Desktop was flashing, no icons clickable, no external disks readable. Could access some progs and terminal, but nothing else. Could not get into the history folder to trash various plists and so on as the folder is hidden and the alt Go wouldn't work. The Finder just wouldn't do anything.
I have sorted it out BUT I have lost my address book entries, my browser booksmarks, my desktop shortcuts and my iCal entries. I need to access my User Library on my Time Machine. Is there a way?
I cannot believe I have been religiously backing up my stuff but Apple has made it so I can't access my backup of one of the most important folders on my Time Machine???
Is there anyway of getting into this from Terminal or something? I will never be able to get back all the bookmarks and stuff I've been researching for years. I have it backed up on two different hard drives, both of which have 'invisible' library folders. I have make the folder visible now, for future backups, but it's after the horse has bolted. I am furious, and just feel like bursting into tears because of all the time it's going to take me to get all my work back. I can't tell you how stupid this was, Apple.
If someone could help I'd be really grateful. I've got older backups but they are so old they won't get back my recent stuff.

Finder not showing user library folder

When I open Finder on my iMac, then click on my user name in the sidebar, I am not seeing the Library folder for my user name. I need to modify some of the application support folders for specific applications, but I cannot find them using Finder. These folders are specific to my user name and are not located within the Macintosh HD/Library folder for the entire computer.
They should be in the path Macintosh HD/Users/[my username]/Library/Application Support/[application name].
But for some reason, the "Library" folder doesn't even show up in Finder when I click on Macintosh HD/Users/[my username]. It's visible when I open one of the applications and use preferences to access folders in the application support folder for that application, but not when trying to get to the same location using Finder -- which I need to do in order to copy and paste some of the files.
Any ideas on why my user-specific Library folder isn't being shown in Finder?

J.Richardson: I'm sorry, but what you described is not intuitive at all (to me, at least). Mac OS is not bad at all, but unless Apple gets off their high horse and maybe provides some *intuitive* controls for fine-grain system administration, people will continue to have valid points to cite Windows (version whatever) as having legitimate advantages over Mac. Recent example that they FINALLY changed; not being able to resize windows from any border.

User/library folder moved

The Problem is that my library folder accidentally is moved.
Then mac os x made a new Library Folder.
The strange think is that i can't move that folder or overwrite it with my original library folder. So how did it move in the first place? How can i replace it.

You probably accidentally dragged it into another nearby folder. Look in the other folders in your user folder.

Where is the user library folder

Where did Apple put the users' "Library" folders in Lion?! If they no longer exist, where should I go to find the user's "Application Support" folder (which I always used to find in the user's "Library"). Am I missing something? Am I blind? I never used to have this trouble. I need to change the default file for a program and that file resides in the "Application Support" folder within the user's "Library" folder (at least, it always used to reside there!)
I can't seem to find anything about this in the help files that come with my computer.

Press and hold Option key
Click Go on the menu bar

User/Library folder hidden.

Some where in migrating to a new computer and upgraing to Lion, my User/Library has become hidden. I have read up on how to view hidden files, but I want to retore this to normal. I have tried a repair disk and repair permissions. To my knowledge the name has not been changed to include a "." before the name. What do I do?

After typing my question I found this.
In Terminal type: chflag nohidden ~/Library
Worked like a charm!
P.S. All of the iWork templates are locked up in those folders, if any other search is made during "save as template". The program will never find its way back. Apple needs to rethink that!

My User Library is GONE! ?? help!

As I'm checking out my app's, I've spent nearly the whole morning on Dymo Labelwriter & Endicia. Everything works fine in SL, but NOT in Lion.
When I went to Print & Scan in System Preferences, I could not find my Labelwriter. I went to view my User Library and It wasn't there!!
What's happened to it.? There's a LOT of stuff - Where did it go? Should I copy it manually over from Snow?

I try to be vigilant with updates to my apps. Both Endicia & Dymo have the most current updates available.
My problem appears to be a driver issue. Endicia says I must reinstall the correct driver to print on rolls.
When I select my Dymo printer in System Prefs/Printer & Scan, it can't find the software; there is only 1 from the list shown, and when I select this, I get the WRONG Dymo printer.
So I've sent their tech support a note explaining all this & hope to hear from them soon. Meanwhile, if I have to make a label, or print stamps, I'll do in Snow Leop.
