User management -reporting service
Hi all
NW04 portal..
Is there a reporting service that i could use that can be configured to display user-group-role info ?
hi,
There is reporting service in NW04 portal. The reporting service is preconfigured and activated in the standard delivery. No further configuration is necessary.
To check the configuration of the reporting service, choose Content Management -> Global Services -> Reporting Service.
For full details, pliz check out the link.

Authentication of users by Reporting Services
I am working with a web application that has no user/password (login credentials) required. Users are able to fill out a survey and then see a pdf report of their information using Reporting Services. Programmatically, I was unable to just hit the
Reporting Services endpoint in order to generate the reports because ReportServer requires a user/login My understanding is that post 2008 there is no anonymous authentication allowed.
The workaround I used was to access report server programmatically and pass some credentials via the ReportViewer > ServerReport > ReportServerCredentials property. This required a lot more code than just accessing the ReportServer endpoint and
downloading the resultant pdf report to the browser. Is there another technique/option that I could have used?
Thanks and regards,
NathanHi Nathan,
Based on my understanding, when accessing report server, you don’t want credential entry pops up?
In Reporting Services, after installing a new report server, only users who are members of the Local Administrators group have permissions to access report server. If we want to grant permissions for other users to access report server, we should add users
to an item-level role and system-level role. As we tested in our environment, there is no credential entry pops up when a user try to access report server. So in your scenario, please check if the user meet one of these two conditions. For more information,
please refer to this article:
Grant User Access to a Report Server (Report Manager).
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

Hi,
How do I expose the User Management Service as a webservice in Web AS 6.20 or 6.30? Thanks!
-VuHi Vu,
Is it relevant to expose UM service throught WS? Anyway you can do it using Portal WS. (see Enterprise Portal Perspective)
I think it should be better if you create your own Portal Service mapping the UM service and expose only the methods you want.

When I try to get into System Settings I get the following error:
Does anyone know how to fix this?
lcerniHi lcerni,
According to your description, my understanding is that you could not access the system settings inside SQL Reporting service application.
There is a blog, the issue 3 is similar with your issue, please take a look at:

InDesign Server to manage reporting services
Hi, Im looking for help/guidelines regarding InDesign. I'm a software architect working on a line-of-business application that will eventually require printing about 5 hundred thousand personalized report (of about 20 pages each) over a couple of days (and many other smaller jobs), and my client requires that this job be executed by a third party. Think of the document as a fairly standard financial report printed once a year for each participant. The application is built in .net, backed by a sql database. Once a year, the data is mined, computed, and outputed in a format acceptable by the supplier (who is chosen through a public tendering process).
So from what I've learned thus far, to be complient with most suppliers, I must use some file format like postscript or eps, and to do this, it looks like InDesign Server might be what I'm looking for.
So here is what I've figured out so far (and where I will need your help if I'm not making sense) :
- Create a kind of IDML template using InDesign on a desktop computer
- in our .net application, modify the IDML for each participant to personalize it (a lot of conditional code to remove sections of text, and inject numbers, etc).
- Send each (or a batch is feasable) to the InDesign Server to prepare for publishing into postscript/eps files
- and if feasable, also create a PDF of each because we need to keep a digital version of the document on the client's corporate SharePoint (for legal reasons).
Is this how InDesign should be used? Am I making any sense?
Thanks in advance for all the answers. You're pretty close, the outlined steps could work. Of course you'd have to add some more postprocessing steps - add or remove pages dependent on your conditional sections, let InDesign rebuild the index if you need one, eventually optimize the layout beyond the automatically maintained keep options.
With that number of produced documents your topmost issue will be speed. For that reason I'd try to not use IDML and outside processing - to open an existing document is much faster than to import it from IDML, and if you can reuse the same template document without close-open, it will be even faster. InDesign has many features such as conditional text, text variables, counters that could be utilized. Your script would then work straight on the document object model, given an input such as tab delimited text or xml.
It is possible to communicate from .net applications with InDesign, but here you should also run comparisons with VBScript and ExtendScript which both have the advantage to run within the InDesign process. There are also other advantages of VBScript and ExtendScript - controlling InDesign can be a bit inconvenient for strongly typed languages like C#, even though it is doable. The community and thus possible support is larger for ExtendScript.
Output will work in all mentioned formats. You might get along with a PDF-only workflow, but as you mentioned the print supplier may have special requirements.

Reporting Service option disabled on Connect-Object Explorer Management Studio Express
Hi,
I have Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 11.0.2100.60 with Data Tools for Visual Studio 2012 installed on Windows 8 ver 6.3
I try to connect to a Reporting Services on my network, but when I click Connect on Object Explorer left panel, I can see Database, and Azure enabled, but Reporting Services, Integration Services and Analysis Service disabled.
Why it is happening this?
Thank you,
Joseph - MadridHi Joseph – Madrid,
Based on my understanding, you want to connect to the reporting services in SSMSE. However, when you click Connect button on Object Explorer pane, Reporting Services, Integration Services and Analysis Service are disabled.
SSMSE cannot manage Analysis Services, Integration Services, or Reporting Services. Since you install SSMSE in your environment, the result is expected. Please refer to Features in SSMSE section of this article:
SQL Server Management Studio Express.
In your scenario, since you want to manage reporting services in SSMS, I would recommend you download and install Express with Advanced Services from this link:
Express with Advanced Services. When downloading, please choose ENU\x64\SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.exe. Or you can install other edition of SQL Server 2012 except Express edition.

Reporting Services Registry access error
We have an existing setup of SQL 2014 & SP 2013 Foundation server which works fine without any issues. Then, we have been installed the following components into SQL Server
Reporting Services – SharePoint
Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint
Then, I provisioned a new SQL Reporting Services Service Application in SharePoint. When attempting to
Manage the Service Application and click on ‘System Settings’ in Central admin of SharePoint and getting below error.
The report server cannot decrypt the symmetric key that is used to access sensitive or encrypted data in a report server database. You must either restore a backup key or delete all encrypted content. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.ReportServerDisabledException.
The report server cannot decrypt the symmetric key that is used to access sensitive or encrypted data in a report server database. You must either restore a backup key or delete all encrypted content. --->System.Security.SecurityException.Requested registry
account is not allowed.
I understand from my investigation, an above said error should thrown only if I'm changing the user of reporting services. But in my case, I Just installed Reporting services and trying to do the configuration. Not sure why I'm getting such registry access
error.Hi orionkings,
According to your description, when you click the “System Settings” in Central admin of SharePoint, the error is thrown out.
In your scenario, the error “Requested registry access is not allowed” could cause by SharePoint web service account can't access some registry keys. To fix the issue, you can use Process Monitor to monitor the registry, and grant Read permission for the
corresponding key.

Hello,
Did you means that other domain user account (Other-Domain\user3) can access reports on the Report Manager without grant any permission? As per my understanding, it is not possible. SQL Server Reporting Services uses Windows Authentication
defaultly to determine who can perform operations and access items on a report server.
Based on your description, you grant the local Administrators group and two domain users with system-level role: System Administrator. System-level role assignments grant access to global tasks and permissions that apply to a report
server site, That's may cause the user can access and manage all contents on the Report Manager.
If you want to set permissions for accessing conntents on Report Manager, you can just specify itme-level role assignments. For example, if you grant user with Browser role on a report, the user can view report and report properties, but cannot edit
report properties.

Domain users and local users can't login to reporting service web environment
Hello,
We installed reporting services at one of our customers but aren't able to use domain users to login. We've tried to login with a domain user, a local user but both aren't working. We set the proper permissions for the users on the reports folders.
We can only login with the buildin/administrator account on the local url: http://servername/reports
How can we allow login with domain users on other report manager url's?Below link may be helpful,
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/623da309-21fa-42a8-905f-1424144a347d/setting-up-a-user-in-ssrs?forum=sqlreportingservices
Regards, RSingh -
Introduction
There is a scenario that the data in the report changes infrequently, so the users want to be informed and get the most updated data once the data changes. By default, report server always run the report with the most recent data. Is there a way that we
can subscribe the report, so that we can send an email to users when the data in the report has been changed?
Solution
To achieve this requirement, we can create a subscription for the report, then create a trigger in the table which including the report data. When this table has data insert, update or delete, it will be triggered and execute the subscription to send email
to users.
In the Report Manager, create a subscription for the report and make it only execute one time.
When we create a subscription, a corresponding SQL Agent job will be created. Then we can use the query below to find out the job based on ScheduleId:
-- List all SSRS subscriptions
USE [ReportServer]; -- You may change the database name.
GO
SELECT USR.UserName AS SubscriptionOwner
,SUB.ModifiedDate
,SUB.[Description]
,SUB.EventType
,SUB.DeliveryExtension
,SUB.LastStatus
,SUB.LastRunTime
,SCH.NextRunTime
,SCH.Name AS ScheduleName
,RS.ScheduleId
,CAT.[Path] AS ReportPath
,CAT.[Description] AS ReportDescription
FROM dbo.Subscriptions AS SUB
INNER JOIN dbo.Users AS USR
ON SUB.OwnerID = USR.UserID
INNER JOIN dbo.[Catalog] AS CAT
ON SUB.Report_OID = CAT.ItemID
INNER JOIN dbo.ReportSchedule AS RS
ON SUB.Report_OID = RS.ReportID
AND SUB.SubscriptionID = RS.SubscriptionID
INNER JOIN dbo.Schedule AS SCH
ON RS.ScheduleID = SCH.ScheduleID
ORDER BY USR.UserName
,SUB.ModifiedDate ;
Create a trigger in the table which including the report data.
CREATE TRIGGER reminder
ON test.dbo.users
AFTER INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE
AS
exec [ReportServer].dbo.AddEvent @EventType='TimedSubscription', @EventData='b64ce7ec-d598-45cd-bbc2-ea202e0c129d'
Please note that the command ‘exec [ReportServer].dbo.AddEvent @EventType='TimedSubscription', @EventData='b64ce7ec-d598-45cd-bbc2-ea202e0c129d'’ is coming from the job properties. We can go to SQL Server Agent Jobs, right-click the corresponding job to open
the Steps, copy the step command, and then paste it to the query.
Then when the user table has data insert, update or delete, the trigger will be triggered and execute the subscription to send email to users.

For example, can we call exec [ReportServer].dbo.AddEvent @EventType='TimedSubscription', @EventData='b64ce7ec-d598-45cd-bbc2-ea202e0c129d'
in a supported way?

If the SSRS is changed to SSL mode and http binding is removed after Reporting Service Point is installed. The Configuration Manager Console shows nothing in Reporting Pane. After digging into this problem, the cause is that the SSRS information has not
been updated in Configuration Manager Database. The following steps are taken for finding the root cause.
1. After changing to SSL, the Reporting Service Point log shows the error as shown in Figure 1.
The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found.
(!) SRS not detected as running
Failures reported during periodic health check by the SRS Server DB2.SCJIZHO.COM.
Figure 1
From the error, seems the cause was the Reporting Service Point detected a wrong port. We digged around in Registry and found the information is a Registry key named ReportServerUri at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\SRSRP. After changing the Report
Server address to https. The error is gone as shown in Figure 2. But the issue remains, the Console still shows nothing. It is not a right direction.
Figure 2
2. Open the Console log file, it also shows some valuable information.
instance of __ExtendedStatus
Operation = "ExecQuery";
ParameterInfo = "SELECT * FROM SMS_Site WHERE SiteCode = 'PRI'";
ProviderName = "WinMgmt";

Figure 3
It seems the Console wants to access the old http site and it fails to get into the site for sure. Actually, the Site Configuration information is come from Site Control File and as we all know that ConfigMgr 2012 doesn’t store the Site Control file in the
file system. However, it’s stored in the SQL database (as XML file). The XML file is stored in a view named vSMS_SC_SiteControlXML. This view is a read-only view. We cannot edit it directly. The related table stored the SSRS information for this view is SC_SysResUse_Property.
Running the following query will list the SSRS address. We can see the address is still the old one. This is why the Console shows nothing.
SELECT
name,
value2
FROM dbo.SC_SysResUse_Property
where name
='ReportServerUri'
or name=
'ReportManagerUri'
Remarks:
This article is just to let you know why the Console cannot show the Reports after changing to SSL mode. We do not intend to make you change the table in Database, if you want to change it, you will be at your own risk. The real solution to this situation
is to reinstall your Reporting Service Point.
Please click to vote if the post helps you. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.Ok, but how do you solve this problem? Does uninstalling the RP and adding it back solve this problem?

How to create user-friendly MDX parameters for MS Reporting Services?
In SQL Server Reporting Service, when I connect to my cube to create a dataset, in Query Designer I create my query with a filter. It creates the following MDX for me:
SELECT NON EMPTY
KPIValue("KPI1"), KPIGoal("KPI1"), KPIStatus("KPI1")
ON COLUMNS, NON EMPTY
[Create Date].[Month Num].[Month Num].ALLMEMBERS * [Create Date].[Hierarchy].[Month].ALLMEMBERS
DIMENSION PROPERTIES MEMBER_CAPTION,
MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME ON ROWS FROM
( SELECT
( STRTOSET(@CreateDateYear, CONSTRAINED) )
ON COLUMNS FROM [ERP])
WHERE
( IIF( STRTOSET(@CreateDateYear, CONSTRAINED).Count = 1,
STRTOSET(@CreateDateYear, CONSTRAINED),
[Create Date].[Year].currentmember ) )
CELL PROPERTIES VALUE, BACK_COLOR,
FORE_COLOR, FORMATTED_VALUE,
FORMAT_STRING, FONT_NAME, FONT_SIZE, FONT_FLAGS
When I add this dataset, Reporting Services creates a parameter named CreateDateYear. When I pass a value like "2014" to this parameter I get nothing and I have to pass a value like
[Create Date].[Year].&[2014].
How can I change my report to change this parameter for passing the value like "2014" instead of ugly and not user-friendly string
[Create Date].[Year].&[2014]?Hi ,
Follow the below steps
1. Create a dataset with MDX as below which would return the member caption (2005,2006 etc) and member uniquename ([Date].[Calendar Year].&[2005],[Date].[Calendar
Year].&[2006] etc)
WITH MEMBER [Measures].[ParameterCaption] AS [Date].[Calendar Year].CURRENTMEMBER.MEMBER_CAPTION
MEMBER [Measures].[ParameterValue] AS [Date].[Calendar Year].CURRENTMEMBER.UNIQUENAME
SELECT {[Measures].[ParameterCaption], [Measures].[ParameterValue]} ON COLUMNS
, [Date].[Calendar Year].ALLMEMBERS ON ROWS
FROM [Adventure Works]
2. In the parameter's available values choose the above data set and set the options as
Value Field = ParameterValue
ValueCaption = ParameterCaption
In this way use will see only the years and based on the selection the respective values will be passed to the dataset as parameter.

JeronHi,
This may occur when there is a mismatch between the Report Server URL entered on the SSRS Server Location window for the Report Deployment Wizard and the SSRS Web Service Virtual Directory for the Reporting
Services Configuration Manager.
Use the following steps to resolve the issue:
Launch the Reporting Services Configuration Manager on the server hosting SSRS
Select Web Service URL
Copy the value entered in the Virtual Directory textbox
Paste it after the last forward slash in the Report Server URL textbox in the Report Deployment Wizard
Continue on with the deployment
In addition, we may need to check you default web server IP is 'all unassigned', and ping the machine and see what default ip it has assigned.
