'User Order' bug?  (3.3)

I've been having a recurring problem with my photos getting out of order when I add them to collections.  The problem is occurring when I select and drag a group of photos from one collection, to another; or, when I select and drag the contents of a collection to a SmugMug gallery under the publish section.  In both cases, the order of the photos, as arranged in the original collection as "User Order", becomes garbled in the new collection's User Order.  However, if I "undo" copying the photos to the new gallery, and repeat the procedure exactly, after another try (or a few) the photos will eventually arrive at the destination in the proper order.
It seems like the more photos I try to copy to a new collection, the more likely I am to have the order get screwed up.  If I have a collection of 60 photographs, I am able to keep the order most of the time if I copy them over 6 or 7 photos at a time.  But if I select the entire collection of 60 photos and drag them to the destination, they almost always get screwed up.
Any ideas what's up here?

Thanks for that info, that's good to know.  However, I think this is a separate issue.  Let me see if I can explain it better.
I have a collection, let's call it "Nantucket Christmas".  I want to publish it on Zenfolio, so I create a new gallery in Zenfolio, then, select all of the photos in the "Nantucket Christmas" collection, either by using cmd-a or by manually shift-clicking on the first and last images, then I drag those photos to the Zenfolio gallery.  Let's say there are 10 photos in Nantucket Christmas, and my user order is numerically 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10.
When I click over to the Zenfolio gallery (yet to be published), the 10 photos are in there, but they are ordered something like 4,5,6,7,1,2,8,9,3.  At the bottom, it shows that the sort mode is "User Order", but they aren't in the User Order they began in in the Lightroom collection.
Now, if I hit undo several times (cmd-z on a Mac), it will remove the photos from the Zenfolio gallery.  Then if I repeat the process, perhaps taking several such attempts, all undone, eventually it will copy the photos into the Zenfolio gallery in the correct order.
The fact that after several seemingly identical attempts I will get a different, normal result is what leads me to believe this is a bug and not user error.
I believe this problem also happens in the identical fashion if I am simply copying the photos from one collection, "Nantucket Christmas" to another collection, say, "Nantucket Holidays 2008-2010", without having anything to do with the publish tool.  (For the record, I've never been to Nantucket, much less Christmassed there.)

  • User order sort changes everytime in Lightroom 3.2

    I have been using Lightroom for a number of years with no troubles.  It is an important part of my photography business.  Lately with ver 3.2 my sort order gets all messed up every time I reopen a catalogue.  The sort can take 4-6 hours, so it is a real problem for me if the user order changes each time Lightroom is relaunched.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?  I am on a Mac, OS 10.6.5.   Is it a bug?
    I am installing 3.3 - maybe that will solve it.  Any tips would be helpful.

    At this point I would download the program again and start the process over. It sounds to me like a camera profile file is corrupt.

  • Where is User Order (Manual sort)  in V3.5??

    I just installed v 3.5 and cannot manually arrange images anymore.  Is this a bug?  If so it's a huge one.

    View/Sort/User Order is greyed out.  Also refered to as "manual mode".   In gallery mode I used to be able to manually rearrange photos by dragging and dropping them --an order in which they would revert to when "user order" was selected. 

  • How to keep User Order when exporting a collection?

    I made a collection of about 300 VC's, chosen from many folders in my catalogue. These images were taken over a 10 year period, using 3 different cameras and having different names and file types. The collection was sorted by "User Order". I spent a good deal of time organizing the collection so that the images made visual sense when shown as a slide show on a digital album.
    I exported the collection to my hard drive as jpegs, and checked the box to place them back in my catalogue, in a designated subfolder within my parent folder. All went well except they are now completely out of order, and that order makes no logical sense whatsoever - not by date, metadata, filename, attributes, nothing that I can figure out. I have to start all over again to reorder them - something that will take several hours.
    What did I do wrong? How can I keep my designated user order when I export a collection? 
    I am using LR 4.3.

    Lightroom does not maintain user order upon exporting. It would make no sense when not exporting back to catalog, but when exporting back to catalog I can see that it may be desirable - consider making a feature request (Idea) here:

    In the mean time, I *think* what most people do to assure export ordering is to name the files according to desired order, then sort by filename. I could be wrong about that, but that's all I got.
    Beware: If said approach is adopted, one would not be able to do incremental exports and maintain such ordering (e.g. when single image added to publish service), so all files would need to be re-exported if such change was made.
    I have requested access to sort order and added-order via plugin for plugin-assisted remedy, but so far no go.
    Another idea (which may not be acceptable) is to use capture-time to maintain sort order of exported photos (via a plugin like Exportant), then it would be easy enough to maintain user order by manipulating capture time (of exported photos I mean, post-export), but then you'd lose the true capture-time, granted: capture time could be put into some other field, but that might foul things up downstream... hmm - sorry for rambling/brain-storming out loud.
    Maybe somebody else has a better idea.

  • How Do I "Sort" by "User Order" ?

    Seems to me I knew how to do this yesterday... but today? Not so much.
    I have imported a slew of photos and at the moment they are appearing in the Library in their capture order. I would like to rearrange a couple of them.
    It seems to me that the last time I wanted to do that, I went to the sort order drop down menu in the tool bar and chose "User Order" and could then rearrange to my hearts content. Problem is presently "User Order" is not appearing as an option in that drop down menu.
    If I go to the menus at the top of the screen, under "View...Sort..." then "User Order" is available, and I can select it... but I still don't seem to be able to rearrange the images in the strip at the bottom or in grid mode.
    Seems simple enough... all I have to do is make it work...
    What's the trick?

    Trick, if you will, is to choose one folder to sort. Make sure you uncheck including subfolders.

  • User Interface bug when renaming tracks in list views

    When renaming tracks in the list views, there is a user interface bug that makes it impossible to see what you're doing.  When you select a track in the list view, this is what it looks like:
    Note how the text is white on the darker blue background.  When you click again, to open the inline text editor to rename, this is what you get:
    The background color of the text editor is white, just like the text, so when you type, you can't see what you're typing, nor can you see where in the original text your text insertion cursor is located.

    I'm frustrated with this same problem. In my case this happens only in my 10.5 macbook air and not in my 10.4 macbook pro. I've been renaming files in the same way in 10.2/10.3 and this never happened. Should be a bug. I've been searching for this issue and found this post at last - I really wonder why there aren't so many people mentioning this.

    How to see it:
    Open table1 (Preference "Automatically Freeze Object Viewer Windows" is set). Click data.
    Open table2. Click data.
    Go back to table1. Click Sort. => You see the columns of table2. The is no way to sort table1, before you close the table2 window (tab).

  • Opening a bin of clips to Icon View defaults sorting to "User Order"

    It seems like almost any time I open a bin of clips directly into Icon view, Premiere always defaults to sorting them in a random "User Order," instead of by clip name (which would be preferred).
    Any setting I am overlooking that would cause this?  Premiere 7.1 on Mountain Lion 10.8.4

    That makse sense, I suppose, but I don't think I've ever consciously imported media from the media browser NOT in sequential order (in terms of hitting CMD-A, selecting all, and Importing)

    I know how to get to User Order and have made changes and instead of trying to figure out all the changes again I want to reset the user order and then start with it again.
    Is that possible?

    Just select one of the pre-set Sort orders, from the Toolbar in Library (T if this is not showing).- for example, by capture time. The images re-sort themselves according to that. Up to this point, you can still get back to your remembered previous User order if you want.
    However once you start dragging images around manually, using the capture time (or whatever) sort as a fresh starting point - LR forgets all about its previous User sorting order. It now has a new one to remember.

  • Timestamp of videos not consistent with photos - appear out of order - bug or user error?

    We just returned from Hawaii and, of course, we have a mix of photos and videos.  However, subsequent photos and videos taken about the same time, which should have timestamps minutes apart, have timestamps that differ by 4 hours.  As I dig into this deeper, it seems all the videos have timestamps 4 hours from what they should be(my view).  At a minimum, I believe the photo and video timestamp should be set per a consistent definition.
    I am determining this after I imported the pictures into iPhoto.  I have done the import several times and the results are consisent.
    Example:
    IMG_0233.JPG - April 6, 2013 6:14:46 PM
    IMG_0234.MOV - April 6, 2013 11:15:08 PM <----This should be 6:15:46 PM
    Tried to verify the timestamp of the video and photo while the picture is on the iPhone…had to buy iPhoto for IOS for $5. The photo timestamp is the same as stated in iPhoto(IOW, IMG_0233.JPG is 6:14), but the video timestamp is just April 6, 2013…no exact time. Guess I wasted $5.
    Computer Data:Mac Mini 2.3Ghz Intel Core i5 - 8GB Memory - OS X 10.8.3
    Iphoto 11 9.4.3
    Phone Data:
    iPhone 5
    iOS 6.1.3
    Date & Time preference:  'Set Automatically'=ON
    Travel Timezone where pics taken: Hawaii - GMT-10
    Home Timezone: Chicago - normally GMT-6(4 hour difference from Hawaii), but right now Chicago is GMT-5 due to daylight savings.
    My theory is that there is a bug that sets the video timestamp to the 'home timezone', potentially only when 'automatic timezone is set.
    This seems easily fixed by doing a batch change to adjust the timestamp on all videos
    Any other explanations?  I am hoping I am doing something wrong.

    1) my opening paragraph says 4 hours, but it should be 5. DOH
    2) i just imported a bunch of pictures and videos from an android phone.  Same issues.  The Android photos seem to be perfectly aligned with the photos from the iphone 5, but the videos are 5 hours off the mark(later).  Of course, I want to view the pictures with the time in Hawaii, not Central Time, so the videos are definitely in the wrong from an intuitive standpoint...as I see it.
    2013-04-09 11.14.25.jpg - Taken at 11:14am in Hawaii.  This data is per the file as it sits in dropbox and viewed by my mac mini Finder.  Android puts the file on drop box from the phone, and I imported to iphoto from dropbox.  Despite the filename indicating 11:14am, finder says the file was created at 4:14pm.  However, iPhoto, correctly puts a timestamp of 11:14am and picture is where I expect it from a time standpoint at 11:14am.
    2013-04-09 11.15.05.mp4 - Taken at 11:15am in Hawaii.  This was imported into iPhoto via dropbox at the same time, but it is showing up in iPhoto at 4:15pm, throwing off the sorting.
    So, now I believe I have an iPhoto issue and probably brought this question to the wrong forum?
    I have fixed the problem by doing a 'adjust time and date' to all videos, both from iphone and android, to be 5 hours earlier in time.  Now everything lines up, but I am scratching my head why this isn't done consisently between photo and video in iPhoto, and why I have not run into this before.....

  • I would like to see a "user order" sort option for Smart Collections

    I use LR to set up Collections to use for web output and typically use key wording to organize which photos will be included in any web gallery. Right now I have to make that into a regular collection so I can rearrange the collection to appear the way I want to present things. I would prefer to be able to utilize Smart Collections so any photos I want to add will be included automatically when I set up the proper keywords. New additions should be at the end of the current order and the user should be able to move that around in the presentation order as desired.

    I absolutely agree. I used a similar function in Aperature all the time. It was the main reason I originally chose Aperature over LightRoom till Lightroom came out with the latest edition that included Smart Collections, and was I disappointed to find that it wasn't as powerful as Aperature's Smart Folders options.
    Both programs have their strengths and their weaknesses... and this time around I think Lightroom has the advantage, but Aperature still wins on Smart Collections customization ability and power.

  • Event Handler/Cr​eate User Event bug

    This is a problem I've run into a few times on my system (Win2k) so I finally went back and reproduced it step by step since it wasn't too hard. It causes LabVIEW to crash and exit without saving.
    - Create an Event Handler
    - Place 'Register Events', wire output to dynamic event terminal
    - Place 'Create User Event', wire output to 'Register Events'/User Event
    - Place an Empty String Constant [""], wire to input of 'Create User Event'
    - Set empty string property -> Visible Items > Label = True
    - Rename label from "Empty String Constant" to other such as "Event"
    OR
    - Create a cluster constant with something in it

    - Place a boolean constant
    - Set boolean property -> Visible Items > Label = True
    - Name label something su

    - 'Add Event Case...' to the Event Handler, select Dynamic / : User Event
    - Delete the constant wired to 'Create User Event'.
    - Place a constant of a different data type and wire it to the input of 'Create User Event'
    LabVIEW immediately disappears (all changes are lost) and this error is displayed:

    Thanks for the detailed request. We are aware of this exact issue, and the problem was actually fixed for LabVIEW 7.0 for Mac/Unix. Unfortunately, it did not get fixed for the initial release of LabVIEW 7.0 for Windows, but we have plans to include the fix in the first LabVIEW patch for 7.0.

  • Discoverer 3.1.42 User Edition Bug? EUL Corruption?

    We have applied the 3.1.42 patchset but are experiencing some serious buggy behaviour.
    The worst problem appears in User Edition if a Parameter is used in a Calculation and there are also Totals on one or more columns. When first created, this situation may work for a while, but further manipulations usually cause the query to crash with a message like: "Internal EUL error: EULParseNodeType error in canonical formula" (apologies: I don't have the exact message in front of me here). Once that error occurs, it seems to always occur in that Worksheet when a Calculation involves a Parameter AND there is a Total declared.
    Is this a known bug? Has anyone else run across this? Does the Worksheet get corrupted in the EUL?
    This one problem (oh, there are several others) is causing some significant grief.

    I haven't seen what you are mentioning yet. However, if you create a calculation or parameter in 3.142 and one of your users still has 3.141, the user will get an error message: Invalid combination of filters or calculations, query cannot be resolved. Upgrading to 3.142 corrects this for the user.

  • User-maxlinks bug

    I am seeing a curious bug concerning maxlinks and currlinks.
    In my dialin router, I have several users defined locally. Each username is allowed to use ppp multilink, and I have also defined a maxlinks in the username command:

    Sometimes, I find that users cannot add a second link to their bundle. If I debug dialer events, I see that currlinks=2, maxlinks=2, so the new call is rejected. But the user has only one link up.
    This looks like a bug in the router's running count of currlinks. I have the impression that sometimes when a call gets cleared, the currlinks gets decremented against the wrong username, or something like that. My evidence is two debug messages:
    Se1/0:2: Dialer-peruser: Decremented user yyyy's currlinks, currlinks=0 maxlinks=2
    Se1/0:1: Dialer-peruser: User yyyy's dialerperuser structure freed already
    Serial1/0:1: Dialer-peruser: failure decrementing currlinks during mlp_remove_link
    Maybe the error message above occurs because the bundle can be dialout as well as dialin. Is is possible that currlinks gets incremented on dial in, but not on dial out, but decremented when both types of call get cleared? Certainly the pattern for the case above was for a user that was allowed 4 links. I dialed out one channel, then he added another two to the ML bundle.
    Maybe we are dealing with two different bugs here?
    Anyone else seen this?

    Whether I persue it or not will depend on how much pain it gives me, how easy it is to demonstrate, and whether my time is better spent doing other work like learning in the lab or on NetPro.
    This bug actually is likely to give quite a lot of pain in the long term, because it will limit the capacity of the dialins over time. But there is a workaround, which is not to limit the number of links.
    The real reason for exposing the bug here is to see if anyone else has noticed it, and help me characterize it. When presenting a bug to Cisco, if you can present a repeatable set of conditions that produce it, then they are more likely to take notice.
    Characterizing the bug also makes it easier to test if it has been fixed in the next release. I think this one should be quite easy to reproduce. It just needs a bit of detective work, which is presicely the sort of work I really enjoy!

  • PSD files move in User Order Sort

    I have posted on this subject a couple of times before, but have had little reaction and I can't believe this is not a major issue to a number of people - so here goes one more time!
    When user sort order is selected in library mode and a file is chosen for editing in photoshop, the original image and the edited image moves to the end of all the images displayed in that folder. This is very annoying as I then need to pick up the stack and move it back to where it started. PLEASE can this be fixed as it ruins a great product for me. Aperture doesn't do this. Does anyone else get frustrated by this or is it just me!?

    How can I move pictures within a collection. I accidently missed a row when moving the pictures into the collection and now cannot drag or otherwise move the pictures into the correct order for a slide show
