User password not accepted after migration

Source: iMac Lion OSX.7.4  Destination iMac OSX6.8
Problem: user password is not accepted after migration
What I did: Tried to migrate over the LAN, but in the migration assistant the other Mac was mutually never recognized. (Did migrations several times successfully in our LAN before). Last time the LIon Mac was the destination, who is now the source.
I backupped then the  user with Time machine on the Lion and installed it with the migration assistant on the Snow Leopard system. As as the password was not accepted, I repeated the backup/migration process once. No help
I reset in System Prefs/User accounts the password of that user. But cannot login either
First time, that a migration process fails for me.
Any help is appreciated
Thanks
Urs

The target computer itself has admin accounts thats not the problem, I can access it. The issue is that the migrated additional user account is not accessible with its password.
I have found here an istruction how to reset a password in single user mode.
http://www.macyourself.com/2009/08/03/how-to-reset-your-mac-os-x-password-withou t-an-installer-disc/
But that does not help either. The answer after the dscl -passwd command is that I do not have access (or similar, I don't remember)
My guess is that backward migration (Lion to Snow) causes the problem. May be I need to create the user freshly and to copy his documents manually

  • Password not accepted after changing user name

I changed my user name in the system preferences -> user and groups -> advanced options.I did not change my password tho.
I then put my macbook to sleep. When I wake it, it won't accept my old password!
I did some searching online, and found solutions which work for previous versions of Mountain Lion or Lion here. OS X: Password may not be accepted after changing user's full name
However I believe I am using a 10.9.3 (I may have updated to Mavericks, I am sorry I forgot), so none of these tricks work for me.
Can someone help me out? much thanks!

I have done several password resets after carrying out a restore to factory settings, but as I soon as I type in the new password, it does not accept it. I know for sure the password is the one to which I set it to. Is is a bug and does anybody have any solutions?
I look forward to hearing any answers.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Once you enter your chosen password (twice on initial reset) you should see the 'proceed with' button
I've just checked and its working fine for me.
When I clicked the settings tab I am not asked to put the password in.
    I get
    Basic Settings
This section contains the common settings that most users need to access. Some of these options are listed below.
All the rest should dispaly text
Do you see this on your PC?
What browser are you using IE, Firefox or something else?

  • Password not accepted on migrated account

I cannot login to the account (my main account) that I migrated from my old iMac to my new MBP, which I am the only user.
I tried the pw that I had used on the old iMac several times and only got the 'shaking window'. Then went in to the admin account on the MBP and changed the pw for my user account, but it's not accepting the new password either!
Please help as all of the information I use and need is connected to this user account - the only one other than admin.
    Thank you

Thanks, I have read through the thread (a few times!) and still don't quite understand what the fix is.
On the new machine - as admin - and in user accounts I can see the migrated account and have tried changing the password. It let's me change the password but it will not let me login with either the new or old password.
I'm get the feeling from reading the thread that the easiest (and quickest) way to get this settled would be to delete the migrated account and set up a new account importing files as needed, is this right?
no, there are alternatives. if the password really does not want to reset you can try deleting the migrated account along with it's home directory and then running Migration Assistant again to migrate just that account only. another option is to try recreating this account but that involves some terminal work. try the following.
enter the following terminal command from the originally created account
    sudo dscl . delete /users/username
instead of username put the short user name of the migrated account that's giving you problems. it's the same as the name of that account's home directory in /Users. you'll have to enter your admin password (which you won't see). that's normal. this will delete that account but not its home directory. then restart the computer, go to system preferences->accounts and create a new account with the same short user name as the migrated account. use its old password. it will say that a home directory by that name already exists and ask if you want to use it. say "yes". then try logging into that account.
Seems as though that may be a bit of a pain with iTunes lib and iphoto lib etc... aggghhh! Sorry

  • ICloud password not accepted after start Yosemite

Since a few weeks I have the following issue on my MacBook, running the latest OSx version: After starting the laptop I am asked to choose a user to unlock my hard disk (FileVault). My password is accepted. A few seconds after the desktop is shown, OSx asks my password for my iCloud account. When I enter my password, the popup screen to fill out the password keeps returning. Like it is not accepting my password. When I press Cancel, the popup screen disappears and I can work without any trouble.
Entering my iCloud password on e.g. the iCloud site or when installing an application is going ok. I am using the same iCloud account on my macbook, iPad and iPhone. On the iPad and iPhone I don't experience any problems.
How can I find out which application is asking for my iCloud account or (even better) how can I solve this problem??
I already did a password change hoping that this would solve any syncing problems. Unfortunately this didn't help.
    Anyone?????????

I have this too. I had it for Facetime, but I logged out of it, but to log out of icloud i need to go into System Preferences, but it crashes every time i click on the Icloud icon. But only crashes for Icloud, everything else works fine.

  • Apple id password not accepted after ipad update to ios5

So I've just upgraded my iPad 2 with ios 5 and the apple id password doesn't work.  I've reset the password 4 times now and still it's not accepting it.  I've turned off the iPad and tried again and still no joy.  Any ideas?

Well this is simular to the problem i have had in rencent log ins on apple. 1. Is the email correct? 2. Did you type the password correct? (There HAS to be an upper case letter in the pass because apple accounts' passwords REQUIRE at least one uppercase letter) If this was not helpful please try again or add more details next time.

My pc will not accept my password since last week when an automatically downloaded took place.

What password are you talking about, log-in, bios, application and what application was updated?
For now you could always boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt and type  rstrui.exe
Follow the onscreen instructions to select a restore point prior to the update.

  • Password not accepted after system migration

    Hi
I just bought my mac air.  I previously had my macbook black and migrated my system through time machine.  When I was in the Mac store the attendant made a name in my mac air.  So it created a new account for my mac air.  When I migrated my system through an external drive, it asked me to create a new name.  So I did.  I was able to succesfully migrate the system and updated all my files in my new mac Air,  I also removed and signed out all my files in my old mac, since I was planning to give it to someone else.
Since I have 2 account name plus the guest account in my new mac air, the one that the Apple attendant made for me, and the new one which I made to put the migrated files from my old mac,  I decided to delete the account that the attendant made for me.  My problem is this: when the screen saver appeared and the mac air required a password, it didn't accepted any of the passwords that i previously used.  This only happened when I deleted the account that the Mac Attendant made for me, and when I started to delete and sign off all my programs in my old mac.  Previously my password was working fine.  Now I couldn't access my mac air.
What do you think happened?  I cant open my mac air, since the password couldn't be accepted.

See if any of these work for you.

  • HT4889 Password not working after migration

I migrated files from my iMac to my MacBook Air.  However, once completed, my login passwords would not work on teh MacBook Air.  I know I am using the right password.  How do I fix this?

In the meantime I was able to solve the problem.
The problem arises when the operating system on the target computer is an older version than on the source computer. I had OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion on my old MacBook Air (Source) and OS X 10.7.x Lion on the new MacBook Air (Target).
After installing OS X 10.8 from an USB Stick the problem was solved and I was able to log in. The transfer of user accounts and programs was done.

  • Password not accepted after sleep

If my Macbook Pro goes to sleep, when it wakes, it won't accept my password.  The funny/horrible thing is, if I click on switch user, then select my account from the list, I can log in.  This happened in 10.7 and I updated to 10.72 and it still happens.

no, it would be the instructions for a macbook pro. which one do you have (what year was it made?)
if you're has a door in which you can remove the battery, late 08 and earlier, then do this
Resetting the SMC on Mac portables with a battery you can remove
Note: Learn about removing the battery on MacBook and MacBook Pro.
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
If you have one that is from 2010 and onward and is the unibody design with the SD slot and no door on the bottom of the computer (you would have to screw off the bottom to get to the inside) then do this:
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your ownNote: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • HT202274 Password change old password not recognized after 10.9.5 upgrade

    God bless you, peace.
macbook pro 2012 user password not recognized after 10.9.4 too 10.9.5 upgrade plus tech work at apple.
I want to change user password, it is allowing me to get into user account and admin account on computer but I recently changed it for the tech work to be done. I would like to put the password back now to old password or a new one but... The few days old new password pre update and pre tech work is not being accepted to allow me to change to another password.
recent update, after 10.9.4 to 10.9.5 update and apple tech work done.
    1. Tech work replaced optical drive,
    2. 10.9.4 to 10.9.5 upgrade left computer endlessly booting up, then got into finder window tried to read backup drive and screen went to black curser and could not backup information as techs decided may need to be done before I left it with them.
    3. Also track pad was not (is not again) selecting text to drag unless real hard press and then only intermittently would select text or just drop the selection (not hold the selected text after a long scroll select, did work at first after tech work but back to not working). It is still not responding easily when pressed, but it is much better, as they did something with software they said. Today While typing this I am trying to select words misspelled and it does not select them unless I press not as hard it is becoming the same as before I see now, sometimes less pressure is needed but more than should be used.
I noticed today after tech work The Spell check is not responding with a two finger tap on the red underlined misspelled words without multiple try's with two finger tap. The curser moves around after selecting words also, or when selecting words so hard the curser moves to another place not on the desired words or check box. The curser arrow tip should select the word but it does not recognize unless I put the tail of the arrow onto the word then it recognizes the misspelled word for spell check on two finger gesture.
It looks like I need to take it back, I tried to call and check to confirm if the track pad intermittently and curser adjustment was serviced. In order to verify I had called three times to get that information to no avail. endless looped in the phone que, one would answer take info and then forward me to a endless loop dial ing phone that never was picked up, supposedly at the Bay street store tech section. Phone voice mail from apple support status on the repair, ...Juliano from Bay Street Apple repair store Emeryville, ca left a voice message... just generically said optical drive replacement is successfulI, I noticed right away three items were to be addressed but only the optical drive was mentioned, so I called three times to try and verify the other problems. One whole minute just to select this text and copy it to notes for a backup. It would not select at first, then after selected it would not copy it, then it would not paste to notes, it paste the last cut and paste I did 10 minutes ago.
I do not have a easy excellent wifi connection for my wifi only phone and would prefer email or chat for repair help. apple Repair No: R142180337

Try running the combo update. It fixes more files/data than the App Store upgrade.
