User preferences reverted back to default - mail gone

Preferences seem to have gone back to default. I have only 1 user account on my mac. All bookmarks, mail account details, appearence etc have all reverted. The only thing that I have done today that was out of the ordinary was 'organising my fonts' according to Suitcase website - ie deleting/moving unwanted system fonts from various folders. I'm sure I haven't deleted any significant system folders as all my trashed files are still in bin. Any ideas?

OK you can stand down - problem over! Had a chat with those nice people from Customer Care - turned out I had accidentally moved my User Library folder into somewhere else. Hence the OS created a whole new Libray folder with default preference...Duh!
Best way to find out if you have done this is run a search on one of the files within Library and it will show up in 2 places - just replace the newly created folder with the moved one.

Background color of TestStand 2012 User Interface Reverts Back to Default After Changing

I changed the background color and other properties of the Execution and Sequence TestStand Controls in the TestStand 2012 User Interface example code. When I execute the Top Level.vi the TestStand User Controls revert back to their default colors/properties. I saw this problem in the list of TestStand 2010 known issues, is it also a known problem in 2012?

I just tried changing the color of the user interface controls in my user interface (from TestStand 2012) and saw the same behavior. I believe this is because the controls are ActiveX controls and do not permit the same level of customization as LabVIEW controls. We have 4 Windows Server 2008 R2 print servers, all of which has the same printer queues installed on them that are utilized by a 3rd party printing program that does a round-robin load balancing scheme.
All printers are a combination of HP and Xerox all running some variation of the HP UPD and the Xerox UPD. Some use the PCL 5 and some use the PCL 6 version determined by age of printer and need.
There are typically two printer queues for each physical printer.
Example:
LOCATION_ROOM
LOCATION_ROOM_TRAY2
The regular queue is ok being left with default setting,
The _TRAY2 queues are set to print to "labels" or "pre-printed" paper type or a specific tray.
From time to time, these _TRAY2 queues will revert back to a factory default state and lose the setting to print to a specific paper type or tray. Sometimes it happens to the _TRAY2 queue on all 4 servers, sometimes just 1 server, etc. No rhyme
or reason.
Disabled Bi-directional options on both the HP and Xerox UPDs per another article on the internet that said bi-directional could cause the printer to send back settings to the driver and cause this issue. Even with this option off, we continue to see
printer _TRAY2 queue settings revert back to factory default and lose their specific paper and tray settings. We have ruled out the possibility that users or other technicians are the ones making these changes so we suspect it is some interaction between
the servers, printer drivers and printers themselves causing the issue.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I'd start by using one of the print drivers included in Windows for a few of the printers and confirm it's the universal driver that is causing the issue.
HP installs some other processes and services on the machine which communicate with the HP devices.
PML and something else. You might want to shut those down and see if these processes are the ones modifying the settings.
Run process monitor to truly identify which processes is causing the modifications.

Apple Mail (7.3, OSX Mavericks) reverts back to default settings after close. How to fix this?

For example, if I choose Mail->Preferences->Viewing->Use classic layout, it reverts just fine when the program is open. However, when I quit out of the program and then reopen it, Apple Mail reverts back to its default styling.
Any help would be appreciated.

Language preference won't revert back on e-mails and texts

I changed my language preference to French under settings/general/language&region, to test a French app and later reverted back to English. This somehow has affected my e-mails and texts and now my e-mails and texts language (spell check) is french. I've verified the language setting and it is English . . .Apple support wants to charge me $35.00 for the priviledge of telling them they have defects in their product.
Any help here would be appreciated.

spellcheck is determined by the keyboard setting (not language). Tap the globe key and switch to English. Or go to settings/general/keyboard/keyboards and delete the French keyboard which was probably added when you played with the French language preference.

Desktop layout always reverts back to default????

Hello- I'm 5 year FCP user and finally frustrated as to why for 5 years, almost every time I open a saved or recent project, my desktop layout reverts back to the default layout??? I then have to take the time to open up my saved layout and it still doesn't move all the windows back in place, especially the effects window. So frustrating! Any advice on how to correct this???

Hi Kevin,
This has been going on for 5 years? That just might be a record. Not one I'd want to hold, however.
My first thought is that you need to reset the FCP preferences. At least up thru FCS2, whenever FCP starts to act strangely, it's usually due either to a recently installed app or upgrade, or to a FCP preference file gone astray. To reset your FCP prefs, an app that will do the work for you is at http://digitalrebellion.net/pref_man.htm
Or, you can do the same thing manually. A search for "trash preferences" in this forum will eventually lead you to discussions where all the individual steps are listed.
Another possibility is that one or more versions of apps loaded in your Mac are out of sync with each other. All I know about this is what I've read in this FCP forum. It seems that certain combinations of versions of FCP + OS + Quicktime work best together. If an installed version of any of those is too high or too low, then an upgrade or downgrade of the app will fix the problem. The version of QT is usually the first suspect.
In the info below your post, it indicates you're at 10.4, but not which version of FCP or QT you have installed. Perhaps if you post those, someone here who keeps track of version combos can spot if there's a potential problem with your version mix.
In the past 5 years, have you ever started from scratch with a blank hard drive and installed all your apps from the original disks? Whenever I upgrade to a new OS or FCP version, I just pop in a new HD and spend a day shuffling disks. Time consuming, but I believe it leads to far less time wasted down the road with crashes or troubleshooting.

Why would settings on my router automatically revert back to defaults?

Have a Model BEFW11S4 V2 (OK, it's old), has been in service constantly since 2002. I had WEP128 set up, had customized the name of the SSID, changed the admin password, had PPPoE specifics entered in, etc. Was gone for a couple of days, came back, and found that my router had defaulted back to the factory defaults - the admin password was back to admin, WEP security was gone, PPPoE settings were gone, and the thing was broadcasting "linksys" as the SSID.
What would cause this? Should I be concerned from a security standpoint?

Hello skyedog, the only concrete reasons why your router settings went back to default because you or someone might have press the reset button at the back of your router accidentally or did it on purpose...or someone might have access your router's web user interface and revert the settings from there..or just maybe plain firmware problem..
Ok here's your solution.

*Download your router's firmware first(make sure to select version 2) and update your router's firmware. After that just reconfigure your router settings. To avoid this problem, make sure not to press the reset button at the back and change your router password to something else so no one will be able to access the web UI of your router. ITunes music folder keeps reverting back to default

If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it: I just moved my music library to a new hard drive, following the Apple instructions on "moving the iTunes music folder" (i.e. changing the iTunes music folder location on the advanced tab in preferences, setting it up to copy files, and then consolidating the library). The move worked, but for some reason, whenever I exit iTunes and come back in, the iTunes music folder reverts back to the default (C:\Documents and Settings\default\My Documents\My Music). It doesn't announce it or anything, but when I go to add new music, it sends it there instead of the new drive. What am I missing on the transfer?

Indesign reverts back to defaults everytime mac is restarted...help?

Ever since installing CS4 I have had this trouble with Indesign -- specifically with the measurement units reverting back to the default of picas everytime I shutdown/restart my mac.
Yes, I have tried the old method of changing this in the preferences without any other files open. Has something changed with Indesign CS4?
I believe even some of the other settings revert, but none of those bother me as much as this problem with the measurements being in picas everytime.
Any suggestions on what I can do to make it quit reverting back to the default? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Changing default prefs only affects new documents, not those you've already made. Is that perhaps the problem? If the new defaults aren't sticking for new documents, I would suggest the first thing to try is trashing (replacing your prefs entirely) and editing them once again. ITunes 12 keeps reverting back to default info tags for purchased music

I have a large library of roughly 18,000 songs and the majority of them were not purchased through iTunes. I have my library very well organized, including detailed genre tags. iTunes by default only has music from their store tagged with very basic genre terms such as "rock, pop, alternative"... but when I go to change the info on the purchased songs to more specific tags such as "progressive rock, pop rock, alternative metal" it takes effect just fine, but only temporarily. When I go back to look at my list of genres a couple days later, the tags always seem to revert back to the basic "rock, pop, alternative" tags. Every time. And this only happens with the music purchased from the iTunes store, not the music from CDs and downloaded through other sources. Is there a way to stop iTunes 12 from screwing with my info tags for my music? This is becoming quite annoying.

Make sure that these two options in Edit > Preferences > Store are turned off:
Then exit iTunes and open it up again. Your metadata entries should then be persistent - with these options checked iTunes will be comparing what you have with the information held in the iTunes Store, and will overwrite with the latter for Store purchases (and if you have iTunes Match). If you have any iOS devices you should also turn off Show All Music under Settings > Music.

TV out Preferences revert back NTSC to PAL

When I play a movie on my iPhone and using TV Out to show it on my TV, during the movie the settings a changed automatically and NTSC is reverting back to PAL.
Does anyone know why is it happening and how can I resolve it?

In preferences you need to set next project to 25 fps (yes I know it should be PAL) and the
b next
project will be PAL. Don't forget to do this again whenever you trash preferences.
If you import dv clips then iMovie will switch to the standard of the first import but if your project is created from slides you are constrained to the preference setting.

HT4528 Is there any way to get rid of the recent iphone upgrade and revert back to default settings? Since upgrading I have experienced nothing but problems with Siri.

Since selecting the prompt to upgrade my iphone4s, I have experienced significant problems. The "old" Siri disappeared and the new one is slow, ineffective and unavailable much too frequently. The faded colors on my iphone screen are also troublesome. I wish that I could revert back to the default settings
on my iphone4s. Has anyone else experienced the above problems?

Apple does not support downgrading to a previous iOS.
You might first try a reboot:
press and hold the home and power buttons until the Apple icon is displayed, then let go.
If it doesn't help, try
Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settiings.

Revert back to Apple mail from Outlook 2011

I migrated my PST file from Outlook 2010 to the Mac Outlook 2011. In doing so I have discovered that the synching does not work. Is there any way to move my Outlook 2011 back to Apple mail and still retain my folders and emails? I have data that is several years old and need to retain the information. I'm not as concerned about the calendar as I use a 3rd party calendar program. Using Outlook 2011, my contacts and notes do not sync and from what I understand there is no immediate fix. Any thought would be appreciated!

User preferences revert on boot

I've only just realised the full extent of this problem so I'll lay it out in bullet points. Hopefully some lovely person will be able to help.
- My macbook broke while in the Apple store so Apple very kindly gave me a new one and did the data transfer from old to new for me.
- When I first logged in I noticed there was another user on there (there has never been any user but me) but I just deleted her and fixed myself as admin (or so I thought) I didn't go back to the store as I'd been in there every night that week and was a bit sick of it.
- I've since upgraded from snow leopard to lion
- I rarely reboot my mac, it's always just put to sleep, but lately I've rebooted a few times and realise this has happened since the swap from old to new mac.
     - On reboot my desktop images revert to the album I had set up on my old mac.
     - The apps in my dock revert too.
     - As do bookmarks in Chrome
     - I'm sure there are lots of others that I've not noticed because I've not changed them.
- I've tried repair permissions in disk utility and repair disk.
- I've also reinstalled Lion.
I'm not really sure what I can do now, if possible I'd like to avoid going into the store, so if anyone has an answer that'd be great.

We have the same problem. But it is not easy to know in what circunstances happens this configuration loose.
One known scenario for this behavior is this:
One User logs using User A. Another user logs using User A.
Firs user makes some configuration changes and Closes B1 (this is the moment when B1 saves the configuration). Then Second user closes B1. This saves the configuration, and changes made by the first user are lost.
Another times, when an error happens and B1 is closed, looks like the configuration is reseted.
I haven´t get any good answer from SAP about this issue.
