User Presets in Lightroom?

I currently have Lightroom 2 and am thinking of purchasing Lightroom 3. Can I transfer my user presets from Lightroom 2 to Lightroom 3?
Also, does it matter that I'm switching to mac from PC when transferring my catalogues etc.?

Ans 1 - The User Presets folder is shared across all versions of Lightroom, so there's normally no reason why you would need to do anything after an upgrade.
Ans 2 - Yes, moving from one OS to another means you have a few hurdles to jump. Install Lr3 on your Mac then copy the Catalog and Previews across to the Mac. When you launch Lr3 on the Mac it will create an new default Template/Preset folder named "Lightroom" at /Users/yourname/Library/Application Support/Adobe/ Next, copy the entire Lightroom Template/Preset folder from the PC to the Mac, thus replacing the original. Relaunch Lr3 and the old presets should now be accessible.

  • Still no option to include crop in User Preset in LR3...

Can anyone explain to me why the developers of Lightroom insist on excluding the option of saving crop ratios along with the other adjustments in the User Presets?
I see that new adjustments such as lens correction are now included as options in LR3 User Presets, so why has crop ratio not been added?
I am a professional photographer, shooting mostly interiors and still lifes with the camera tethered to my computer.
I switched from C1 Pro to Lightroom 2 due to unresoved software issues with C1 Pro and for the most part have been happy with switch, using the Auto Import feature to shoot directly into Lightroom and applying a User Preset automatically on the import.
However, I have been frustrated by the inability of Lightroom to automatically apply a crop to an incoming image - frequently I am required to shoot for a specific layout and on many shoots art directors or clients are looking at new versions of images as they come on screen and to have to manually apply a crop before they can view an accurate composition is irritating for all.
I realise that it is now possible with LR3 to shoot tethered 'natively' into Lightroom 3, which solves the issue of automatically applying a crop to an image on import by selecting 'same as previous' under Develop Settings. However, I am unable to use the 'native' tethered option as, although I normally shoot with a 5D II which is supported, when mirror-lockup is enabled, the Lightroom tethered control panel will not fire the camera shutter (this is similar to C1 Pro). Therefore, I need to be able to use the Canon Eos Utility to fire the camera, coupled with the Auto Import of Lightroom when using mirror-lockup, which means being unable to apply a crop on import.
Adding the option to save a crop ratio with a User Preset would have two significant benefits in my opinion:
    1. It would mean that a crop could be applied automatically on import when shooting tethered and not wanting to use LR3's native tethering interface.
    2. Users of cameras not supported by LR3's tethering would be able to apply a crop automatically on import.
The other solution would be for the developers to include the 'same as previous' option for those using the Auto Import feature.
I really do hope that the option to save a crop ratio as part of a User Preset in Lightroom is included sooner rather than later, as I feel that it is a glaring omission in what is otherwise a very solid application.
    Any views would be appreciated.

    Thanks for suggestion Gary.
Using Live-view on 5D II does keep the mirror in the lock-up position and therefore you could use this technique with LR's tethering controls. However, for me this is not a solution for a few reasons: Live-view shooting drains the battery; extended use of Live-view can have a negative effect on sensor noise due to heat; sometimes it is very useful to be able to use the EOS Utility to control camera settings e.g. changing length of exposure for blending purposes without the need to touch the camera at all.

  • Lost my Lightroom Export User Presets

I wanted to export some of my files and noticed that my user presets are missing.  I was able to find the .lrtemplate files but I don't know how to bring them back into Lightroom.  I'm also missing some custom keyword sets that I created.  I am currently on Lightroom 2 and running Windows XP.

I lost my export presets and then I realized I had changed my preferences. Specifically under Edit->Preferences tab I had unchecked the "Store presets with catalog" check box. When I rechecked this box, my export preferences re-appeared.

  • Lightroom 5 catalog. Retrieving user presets and plug-ins.

Got a new Macbook Pro, and all my data from my old Macbook is on my new hard-drive. I transferred my old Lightroom 5 catalog on my new Macbook and when I tried to open it, none of my User Presets nor Plug-ins such as; VSCO were there. How can I get these back? Thanks

Presets are found in your user Library folder. You'll need to open Finder, and click Go, then hold down the Option key to enable "Library" in the menu. Click Library, then follow the path:
    /users/yourname/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/
Within this folder, you'll find subfolders with all your presets and templates. Copying folder by folder is the best way to make sure you get everything you need. Make sure you keep the presets and templates within the exact same folders on the new machine.
Plugins are best migrated by re-installing.

  • Lightroom 6 doesn't migrate Export User Presets from LR5

Tonight I upgraded from LR5 to LR6 (standalone, not CC).  My catalog migrated successfully and generally the library and develop modules seem to work fine.  But when I go to export, all my User Presets are gone.  Any advice on how I can recover my export user presets so that I don't have to manually recreate them all?  I'm on a Late 2012 Mac Mini, 2.6/i7/16GB, OS X 10.9.5.

Thank you, that was the problem.  They were checked as stored with catalog in LR5, but not in LR6.  Once I clicked the checkbox in LR6, I found all my export user presets.  Now I assume that if I subsequently uncheck that box, LR6 will create a unique file to house those presets?  Does it matter if they are or are not in the catalog?  I've got a decent grasp of LR's functionality, but wasn't aware of this and don't know if there are pluses or minuses with either approach...

  • Why can't I create a new user preset?

    Hi there,
I recently got Adobe Lightroom 5 - upgraded to 5.6 but I can't seem to be able to make a new user preset. I have tried re-installing the program and upgrade but nothing seems to work. I've also clicked 'create' several times with the preset named 'test' but the preset is nowhere to be found.
I was previously using Adobe Camera Raw in Photoshop CS 5 but decided to switch over because I read about the ease of use of Lightroom. Would appreciate some help on this.
    Kindly advise, thanks in advance!

You are talking about the forward, back, mail and trash can icons in the Notes App - correct?
I've gone through restarting it and followed the instructions from the person last week.
Have you restarted the iPad - is that what you mean? Have you quit and then restarted the app? Quit the app, and restart the iPad. It's worth a try.
Double tap the home button and your recent apps will appear at the bottom. Hold down on the Notes app icon until it begins to wiggle. Then tap the minus sign to quit the app. Then tap the screen. Now restart the iPad.
Carolyn explained this above (restart) but here it is again....
Hold down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and slide to shut off. Hold down on the sleep button until the Apple logos appears then let go of the button and the iPad will restart. See if that helps.

  • Export and import user presets

How to import metadata user presets from another Lightroom catalog?

Metadata presets are stored in folder inside of your user settings. Depending upon your operating system, this location may vary.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/preference-file-locations-lightroom-4.html
It is as simple as copying them.

  • Disk Location of Presets in Lightroom 3

Where are the preset files (Metadata, Develop, etc.) files located on the hard disk under Windows?  I would like to sinc my main compuer settings with my laptop.
    Thank you.
    Steve

If you go to preference in LR and select Presets, Show Lightroom Presets folder.....it will take you directly to the Lightroom folder in explorer/finder.
On Windows 7 this is user/username/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Lightroom

  • User Presets for Exporting Files

I want to create a user preset for exporting full size jpegs to a folder to be named later. Whenever I try and save it Lightroom defaults to email. How can I resolve this?
    Here are my settings:
    Lightroom 4.2
    export to hard drive
    choose folder later
    jpeg format
    Adobe RGB
    quality=95
    Thanks

So, where is the emailing part coming in? Is it not being saved with 'Hard Disk' as the export service ('Export To' field in Export Dialog Box). Or is it being saved OK, but then when you go to use it the problem presents.
Feel free to post the contents of the associated .lrtemplate file in the body of your next post. (hint: 'Show Lightroom Presets Folder' button in Lr preferences dialog box).

  • User presets and external plug-ins missing after V 2.6 upgrade

I just upgraded to V2.6 and noticed that all my user  Presets for Develope and Print Modules have gone missing. It also happened to all the third party plug-ins software. While the software can be re installed, are the missing user presets gone forever? Isn't LR intelligent enough to leave  the user presets alone during an upgrade?  Doesn't LR back them up like the catalogue files are backed up? How can I prevent this from happening for any future release upgrade? All this is counter productive. Appreciate any suggestions.Thank you.

    Dear Ian Lyons
You are spot on, no wonder you are the Community Professional and a member for over four years. Some of my presets are in the Lightroom Preset folder and unchecking the Store Presets with Catalog checkbox  revealed the presets and by copying the rest of the presets into the same folder all my presets are now visible and better than before.  Gotta go now as it is back to business as usual with nothing missing. I simply love this program!
Thank you very much for the sound advise.

  • How can I save my downloaded OnOne Presets in Lightroom 4 for use in all of my catalogues?

Downloaded and imported these presets into Lightroom, User PRESETS but they ONLY WORK with ONE catalogue (the one I downloaded them into). How can I save them so that I can continually use them in ALL of my catalogues (future and past)? This is driving me crazy (had the same problem with LR3). Read all the manuals I could find and online help but there was nothing about this.
P.S. Also have a similar problem when trying to save my "edited watermarks". Have to repeat this every time I export my photos.

In Preferences/Presets/ Uncheck Store Presets with catalog.

  • Convert ACR presets to Lightroom?

Is there an easy way to convert ACR presets to Lightroom presets?  I don't use ACR, so
that would be new for me.  Any advice or direction would be appreciated.  Thanks!

There is no easy way to convert ACR presets to Lightroom. However, there is a method by which you apply the preset to an image in ACR so that they written to XMP then import that image into Lightroom. In Lightroom you select the imported image then create a new preset, making sure that you have all of the settings checked in the preset dialog. Frankly, it isn't worth the hassle and more often than not users screw up somewhere along the way.

  • Lost user preset data

    Hello,
I appear to have lost all my user presets in Export since I have backed up some files and updated Lightroom 5.
    Please help?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I would like to know your account type.Microsoft account or Local account?
I suggest you check your folder to see if the user folder is hidden.
Please follow the steps to enable this option:
    1.Access the Control Panel.
2.Type "folder" into the search bar and select Show hidden files and folders.
3.Then, click on the View tab at the top of the window.
4.Under Advanced Settings, locate "Hidden files and folders." Select Show hidden files and folders just below that.
    5.Click on OK.
6.Hidden files will now be shown when performing searches in Windows Explorer.
