User Profile Service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded - For any new accounts created
I'm sharing this issue we encountered earlier today so that others might benefit from what we discovered.
We're using Win8.1 Ent and on two of the systems, any accounts created encounter the following message upon attempted login (i.e. login fails):
"User Profile Service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded"
The event viewer shows this:
Windows cannot copy file
\\?\C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VSCommon\12.0\SQM\sqmdata-7696-039-00000.sqm to location
\\?\C:\Users\TEMP\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VSCommon\12.0\SQM\sqmdata-7696-039-00000.sqm. This error may be caused by network problems or insufficient security rights.
DETAIL - Access is denied.
Solution which worked for us
In our instance either setting the appropriate permissions on the affected file, or deleting the file resolved it.
I had a similar problem, and raised a Premier case, which is mentioned here:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/asiatech/archive/2014/01/30/new-user-gets-event-1509-after-deploying-ie9-10-11-packaged-by-ieak.aspx
It seems this issue with SQM/CEIP creating a poorly ACE'd SQM file has been around for a very long time, with many causes being the installation of Internet Explorer (as was my case, of deploy IE10 to Win7), but other reasons also occur (as in your case
with VS).
It seems to me that this is a defect in the SQM/CEIP component, but the issue does not consistently occur is all scenarios, which appears to be an excuse to leave the defect uncorrected, so we have to implement ugly workarounds.. :(

After installing Windows 8.1 Update 1 (Spring update KB2919355), our enterprise Windows 8.1 image began getting User Profile Service failed the sign-in. Uninstalling the update fixes the issue. The update somehow modifies the default user
profile causing write access issues which is evident in the event viewer.
Things I tried:
1) Re-applying parent permissions to Default profile folder
2) Disable CopyProfile before sysprep
3) Creating a new image with Windows 8.1 Update 1 ISO from Microsoft
None of them seem to work. I believe update 2919355 will be needed to continue getting future Windows 8.1 update. I might try looking at the specific files that the User Profile Service is complaining about but it seems to be random.
Anyone else experience this?"Place your rig specifics into your signature like I have, makes it 100x easier to understand!"
I should have included this. It does it on all of our machine builds (we have a few) including VMs.
"try this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2919355
if
a fresh manual install does not work use
the tools here"
Did all of this already at the request of MS and also ran a trace utility they sent me and submitted the results. The Trace revealed nothing remarkable to the analysts that gave any indication of what is causing this.
MS has acknowledged that there is a problem and for me it has to be an enterprise fix, not an individual run around to every computer. I have tried removing everything non-Microsoft and will try removing APP-V 5. If it works I will let them know, but
we can't operate the enterprise without APP-V so this wouldn't be a solution. The trouble is that it is so random that we thought we had it fixed by removing AV and were going to start looking in that direction and it turned out that if you just kept hammering
it with the logins that it would still manifest, as it has done with everything I have tried so far. -
User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded
Hey
when I try to log on to the computer using a domain account, I get "User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded" it allows me to login using the local account. I have restored the computer as far
back as it can go, I have taken it off the domain and re-joined it, I installed a program called 'Glary utilities 5' and ran a registry repair and that did not work either. I am now out of ideas :(
Was hoping someone has any more ideas I could try before doing a fresh install.
Thanks in advanceHi,
Have you checked the solutions mentioned in the the followng link?

Hi all,
I just got a new x201, which I installed ubuntu on a second partition. For a while the two systems were getting along fine, and I was able to switch between them without problems. on my last login it won't accept my credentials (pw or biometric) and says "The user profile service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded" and then returns to the login screen. Any ideas on how to fix this without nuking the system?Hi, I'm having the exact same problem as little_teapot , I cannot get past the login screen. I went onto the Toshiba support site which asked me to do a system recovery using the F8 key on start up. So I tried this but the problem I'm having is when I turn on the computer holding in the F8 key, nothing happens, it just goes through start up as normal and then it just ends up at the login screen telling me that the user profile cannot be loaded. I've tried it a couple of times and I don't know if I'm doing something wrong with the safe mode start up? Also the notebook is a P500/020 and is only 2 months old running Windows 7? if anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

"The user profile service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded."
I recently purchased a refurbished laptop from MTC (windows 7) and have been trying to remote into the windows systems at my school but I keep receiving this error message. I'm aware there are dozens of threads on this topic but mine is slightly different.
Bear with me, I know next to nothing about computers...
I initially tried to follow the instructions given out by Microsoft (can't add a link here), but when it comes to looking at my S-1-5 directories, I do not have any that end in .bak, nor do I have two equally names ones. I have one that is a string
of numbers followed by -1000 and one with the same string of numbers but ending in -500.
The -1000 directory is missing the RunLogonScriptSync file, and has my account listed under value name for the ProfileImagePath information. The -500 directory has the RunLogonScriptSync file and has "Administrator" listed under
the value name for the ProfileImagePath.
In the instructions cited above I tried skipping to step 15 and accessing C:\Users\default\appdata\local\application data but I get an error message saying access is denied. So I'm thinking there are two administrative accounts on this laptop, but
when I access the accounts on the laptop I can only see mine.
Any help would be appreciated!

the "access denied" message, is making you think this?
if so, ignore that, since the "access denied" message is a classic MSFT misdirection.
It is *not* that you don't have access - the path you are trying to navigate to does not actually exist (it is a junction/reparse, not a folder), and, Windows Explorer doesn't follow that nicely, so it throws a misleading error message:
C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local>dir /AL
Volume in drive C is Windows7_OS
Volume Serial Number is C0EB-A540
Directory of C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local
14/07/2009 03:08 PM <JUNCTION> Application Data [C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local]

Instead, the "user profile service service failed the logon" can be commonly caused by an improperly secured file within any of the other folders (folders which form the Default User profile).
Here's one which caught me out, and MSFT helped me resolve via a support case, and they blogged it afterwards:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/asiatech/archive/2014/01/30/new-user-gets-event-1509-after-deploying-ie9-10-11-packaged-by-ieak.aspx
(my advice to you, is to dive into the event log with eventvwr, and look for an event similar to 1509, which should point you in the right direction for your particular situation)

How can I recover from Windows login failure: User Profile Service failed the login
I have Boot Camp installed on a separate partition on a MacBook Pro, late 2011 model. I have Mavericks installedd (10.9.1). I use, variously, both Parallels and VM Fusion to access the BootCamp installation of Windows 7.
Except for having recently installed updates of both VMFusion and Parallels, I got this failure message when trying to login to Windows:: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.
I had just been on Windows a few moments previously to access a business site that only accepts IE. Appreciate any useful insight on dealing with this issue without having to totally replace the BootCamp installation. A lot of the suggestions on Microsoft Windows repair sites are either incomprehensible or don't seem applicable.Same problem here. Windows 7 support gives several so-called fixes (including regedit tweaks, eliminating the blocked user account), but all require access to that partition. So far as I know, I have only one user, since this is my personal computer -- unless there is some sort of default "administrator" logon.
Windows support says the problem might be caused by antivirus software running while we try to logon, but this problem has never happened to me before, and I have not made anti-virus changes (maybe AVG or Avast did so automatically)
I tried to access regedit through Finder, but get a garbled text-edit with the message that regedit cannot be opened by DOS.
So I wonder (a) is there a default admin logon? (b) Can we tinker with the settings inside Windows from Finder, or (c) how else can we get into Windows?
My setup: Macbook Pro (Fall 2010), 10.6.8, boot camp, Windows 7. -

I have followed the instructions in Microsoft KB 947215
In step 4 it says to locate the S-1-5 folders, which I have done, find the two matching file numbers and change the .bak/ba extensions. Problem is I have 4 folders and I am not sure which to rename. If I try to add the .ba extension on the file named

Have I picked the wrong file to rename? Please advise. Hopefully I have provided sufficient information. If not please advise.

If you want to modify the registry, you must have administrator privilege.
Since no other administrator account in your computer, you may have to active the built-in administrator account.

Satellite L450 - The user profile service failed the log on
Hi
I have a Toshiba Satellite L450 and I have had it for a while now and this has never happened before, when I turn it on it goes through the usual and then comes up with my name and a box for me to type my password, as normal. But when I put my password in it says:
The user profile service failed the log on
User profile cannot be loaded
The only option I have is to log off and when I do it takes me back to the password bit. If I put the password in wrong it tells me its wrong.....
Cant do anything with it, I have tried shutting down, etc....looked through the manual and cant see anything about it in there either.......... :(Hi mate

Good luck -
User profile service failed the logon And cant enter safe mode
I'm getting this problem with a T510 thinkpad. Ive searched for this and found that the only solution seems to be to start the computer in safe mode, but when I use F8 the computer goes into:
Error 0210: stuck key 42
press F1 to start up.
then F1 leads to the BIOS setup utility, with no option for safe mode.
when I try the "ThinkVantage" button, i get:
Startup Interruption Menu
ESC to resume normal startup
F1 to enter the BIOS Setup Utility
F12 to choose temporary startup device
again, no safe mode option.
Using F12 during startup gives me:
Boot Menu

4: ATA HDDO: HITACHI HTS723232A7A364 - (S1)
5: PCI LAN: IBA GE Slot 00C8 V 1351
<enter setup>
in other words still no safe mode!
I'll confess I'm no techie, in fact it's taken me a loooong time to type this on a tablet...but any help would be much appreciated.

Whenever I try to login to our Exchange Server, I receive the following error:
"The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded."
The issue affects more than one user.
Relevant Info:
Server Version: 2012 Datacenter
Exchange Version: 2013
The Exchange server is virtualized.
What I've tried:
1) Remote Desktop from a workstation on the network
2) Remote Desktop from Virtual Machine Manager
3) Connect via console from Virtual Machine Manager
4) Accessing the server via Computer Management and adding my user account to Allow Login via Remote Desktop
5) Creating a new user account for myself by copying the account of a user who can get in
6) Rebooting
I'd appreciate any suggestions.Hi Aaron,
I would suggest you to check the event log .

The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. WinCE - RDS 2012R2.
Hi,
We have a lot of HP thin clients with WinCE. I read about security and license issues which prevent to connect old OS/RDP clients to RDS 2012R2. I fixed them all. However we got a random problem from time to time: users faced with error like "The User
Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded." If user reconnects immediately, he can got the error again or can log-in normally. I noted that if screen blinks while remote profile loading, user got this error.
Two scenarios:
1. Click on RDP shortcut on thin client -> enter credentials -> profile loading -> %GREAT RANDOM% -> normal log-in.
2. Click on RDP shortcut on thin client -> enter credentials -> profile loading -> %GREAT RANDOM% -> screen blinking -> error.
Actions if error:
1. Reconnect -> Error -> Reconnect -> Error -> Reconnect -> OK.
2. If reconnect doesn't help, user has to reboot thin client and try again.
I checked that it's not an issue of the special server. I also checked that there are no bad profiles on servers or bad registry entries. User can keep trying to connect and finally enter to it's session on THIS TS server (I tried to close entrance to all
servers excluding one and tested). Usual PCs (win7/win8) don't have any problems to log-in.
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you!Hi Amy,
Thank you for your answer! I disabled “Do
not log users on with temporary profiles” and also disabled anti-virus. Nothing changed. :( Users
still get that error.
Thank you! -
Hello All,
OK here is what i'm trying to figure out. First off i am new to my company and still trying to learn the in and outs but have already been thrown into the lions cage by myself. I inherited a network that is run on Windows Server 2008 R2. The domain consists
of XP,Windows 7 and Windows 8 machines. Here is the issue i am facing.
Every once in a while (usually after a few hours of inactivity) when a user goes to log into the machine they receive an error stating "The user Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded.". However
this only happens to the windows 8 machines and like i mentioned earlier it usually happens after a brief inactivity period. Now restarting the machine always works(100% of the time) but this super annoying. I have also completely restarted the server just
to find out the problem resurfaced later that day.
Any idea on how to fix this issue? Like i mentioned this only happens to the Windows 8 machines. Is there something i should do on my server to prevent this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank youThis one might help.

Access RemoteApp error: The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in
I have couple of users in MYAPPS group that is a part of Collection.
Only me (domain admin) and other domain member user can access the app from RDWEB.
When an other domain admin and an another domain user try to access the app (from different machines) they get:
"Access RemoteApp error: The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in"
RDS is Server 2012 R2 clients W7, W8.
I found all kind of troubleshooting for Vista and W7 non RDS scenario.
What it could be? A bit confusing... one admin Yes another no. The same for regular domain member
1. users can login to RD Web (https:../rdweb) . The published app appears
2. When clicking on the app icon the screen below appears

I did check KB2919355. It looks like pretty important...
All future security and nonsecurity updates for W8.1 and 2012 R2 require this update to be installed...
So how to deal with this thing?
May be somebody from Microsoft will see this post and can suggest other workaround instead of removing the important patch.
Thanks Jay for pushing me to check Event :)
