User Profile Services start in all sharepoint servers in farm

Hi,
Do we need to start the below services in all sharepoint servers in farm?
1) User Profile Service
2) User Profile Synchronization Service
Thanks....

Hi,
The Web Front end Server is the server that is hosting IIS and serves the websites.
An Application Server  has services on it, for example, like Excel services, Project server, etc..
A database server simply hosts the SharePoint core db's and the other Content databases.. It just has SQL Server installation on it.
You only  need to start the User Profile Service and User Profile Synchronization Service in the Application Server in farm.

  • Any Benefit to having User Profile Service on more than one server

I have an application that uses UPSA and UPSS, the User profile Service and Sync Service are started on the same server
Is there any point in having the User Profile Service started on a second server for redundancy.
I understand that a UP Sync Service can only be associalted with one User Profile Service Application
Can I make my User profile Service Fault tolerant by starting the service  on more than one server?
I am not looking to create  a second Use Profile Service Application to have seperate DB's and things
Just to have User Profile still avaialble when the serevr hosting it has an issue
    thanks

To get the round robin load balancing, just start the service in Services on Server on more than one server.

  • Initiall SharePoint Server 2013 setup -- unable to manage new User Profile Service Application

During initial farm setup, creating an initial User Profile Service Application works fine.  However, once it's created, I cannot 'manage' it through the Manage Service Applications page in central
    admin.
I get a generic error (Sorry, something went wrong / unexpected error) with a correlation ID that doesn't seem to match any ULS log entries. (Yes, I merged logs from all machines in the farm.)
A Windows event log entry says:
A failure was reported when trying to invoke a service application: Endpoint Failure
Also frequent errors in ULS logs:  (see below)
    UserProfileApplicationNotAvailableException
User Profile Application      Proxy failed to retrieve partitions from User Profile Application: Micro…
    SPDistributedCache DataCacheException
I did notice that the file 'ProfileService.svc does not exist in SharePoint's web services app at the URL you see in the error. (below)
I also found it interesting that the event log error shows 1 active endpoint and 3 failed endpoints.  I have 2 WFEs and 2 app servers.  But I'm only trying to get the user profile service app running on the application
servers.  I have deleted and recreated this service app several times under various names (deleted/recreated its app pool as well) and wonder if these other failed endpoints could be orphans from previous instances...
Any thoughts on how I might successfully create this service application?  I've already been Binging my head against a wall long enough that I would have been better off reinstalling the entire farm...  I may still
    do that.
FYI, my farm came from a slipstreamed SP1 install package, and received the July CU after several other things were already configured, including the already-failed UP service application.

  • SharePoint 2010; Re-using profile and social database in User profile service applicaiton

    Hi
Using ms server 2008r2, sql 2008r2, 2 WFE and 1 Appserver and SQL cluster.
I have restored my User profile service application using restored databases profileDB and SocialDB, the SyncDB was recreated as i had problems starting the user profile synchronization service when using the old SyncDB.
I mangaged to create and start a full conections sync to Active Directory and got all my 6000 profiles inn. Ok.
This morning I noticed that the number of user profiles was only 2000, so im wondering what could have happened..
I did notice that the user sync was very slow yesterday.
ps; I did not think/know about exporting the Microsoft Identity Integration Server Key (MIIS) encryption key earlier,
so i dont have this key. That is probably why the backuped old synchDB did not work.
    Any ideas?

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg576965(v=office.14).aspx Under
" Back up a User Profile Service service application (UPA) using SQL Server tools " :
It is very important to export the "Microsoft Identity Integration Server Key (MIIS) encryption key" from the old environment to the new farm, when restoring the UPA to a new farm. The reason being is that you will be unable to start the UPA synchronization
service with the restored SynchDB without importing this key. And if you only use the restored SocialDB and ProfileDB with a new SynchDB, you will experience problems with losing Profiles in your UPA.
My initial sync gave me all 6000 users, while this morning I suddenly had 2700:-).
My problem is that we deleted the old servers and I don’t have this key:P

  • This User Profile Application's connection is currently not available. The Application pool or user profile service may not have been started

Hi, we had installed SharePoint Service Pack 1 (SP1). And now the user profile service application is not available. Getting this
Error "This User Profile Application’s connection is currently not available. The Application pool or user profile service may not have been started".
How to troubleshoot the issue anh help/thoughts will be appreciated

Not sure, if this will help, but in my case all of my services were up and running (including app pools) and also IISRESET did not help. So at that point, looking at the error message, I assumed that there is something wrong with the app pool (or app pool
credentials) and went to CA --> Application Management --> Manage Service Applications and selected UPSA and under properties just created a new app pool to run under farm account (did not want to take any chances).
As soon as the new app pool was provisioned, the service came back.

  • How can i start a new user profile service in ordre to replace an old one ?

    hi
i create a new user profile service in ordre to replace an old one
when i use : Get-SPServiceApplication i can see that hi is created but
when i use Get-SPServiceInstance i can see it i can see only the old one

    Hi,
The Get-SPServiceInstance returns the services instance for a specific server or the entire farm. The service instance GUID is unique to every farm and cannot be changed.
For starting a fresh with the User Profile Service configuration, you can unprovision and re-provision the User Profile Service:

    Hi,
The OOTB feature “Export to Spreadsheet” won’t contain the department in the exported report, we will need to create a custom one programmatically.
We can use SharePoint Object Model to retrieve the data from the Survey and the User Profile Service, then generate an Excel Spreadsheet with the data we need.

It sounds as if you don't really understand what "using data" means. Data is not something different from WiFi and 3G, it's something sent over WiFi and 3G. Think of data as water and WiFi and 3G as types of pipes. Some apps need to send and receive data to work. That data can be sent or received in different ways. It can be sent over WiFi or 3G. Both official iPhone carriers in the U.S. have metered data plans. It's sounds as if you're talking about AT&T's 200 mb data plan. WiFi is not provided by your cellular carrier. You can have WiFi from your Internet Service Provider at home or you can access free WiFi at places like McDonalds or Starbucks or paid WiFi at places like airports.
If you have WiFi turned on on your phone and WiFi is available, the phone will default to WiFi. WiFi is faster than 3G and generally not metered, and is sometimes even free. If you are out of range of WiFi, you would be using 3G to send and receive your data. With a metered plan, you need to keep an eye on how much you are using because if you go over your allowance, you will be charged additional fees.

  • Sharepoint 2010 User Profile Service Application

Should I have the need to completely delete and reinstall the User Profile Service Application, will that prevent user logins. We have a great number of users with various grouped and departmentalized permissions and such. I am trying to determine if it
is completely safe to delete the UPSA without messing up the permissions and logins. Please advise.

Your UPA deletion will not effect permission on sharepoint site.

  • Some links and social network features not active in user profile service for some users in sharepoint 2013

    Hi everyone,
I installed user profile service and synchronize. When I go to my site by administrator user every things is OK.
But when I login by another user the my site is look like this
Please guide me to resolve this problem.
    Thanks in advance.

Can you please check and share mysite setting details. Check for below:
Create a site collection at the root using the My Site Host template
Assuming you want users’ MySites to be created at
http://mySiteHost/personal/[John_Smith], create a Managed Path for the web app. The path should be personal, and the type should be
    Wildcard Inclusion.
In User Profile Service Application, set My Site Host location to
    http://mySiteHost, and
    Personal Site Location to personal.
Enable Self-Service Site Creation for the web app
Check when the timerjob was mysite last executed. Try to manually run them
Check ULS Log for possible error and share error details with us
If this helped you resolve your issue, please mark it Answered
