User profiles getting changed to "local"

We have users who have had a user policy with DLU active via their OU for years. The policy also specifies that their roaming profile is being stored in their home directory, which it is.
Due to system changes we needed to change the OU policy to a No-DLU one and then associate the DLU policy to individuals. We changed the search policy to look at Object before Container.
Now we are getting reports of users whose local workstation profile has gotten changed from Roaming to Local and the Roaming radio button is grayed out so we can't even change it back.
Ideas on how this happened and how to fix it?

  • User Profile getting deleted

What happens when a user profile gets deleted? Does it prevent that user from accessing the sharepoint site or any site he has access to?
One of our users have been moved from one OU to the other and manager got an email about his mysite getting deleted within 14days. I don't care if his mysite gets deleted until he has access to the main site.

No, User Profiles do not impact permissions.

  • PSFT User profiles getting revoked

    Hi,
We used to have the revoke turned ON in our access policies.
But recently, we removed that and upgrade to 9102 BP14. I still notice that the PS user profiles are getting revoked when a OIM user is terminated.
However, users who are created after the access policy change are getting disabled as expected.
I also ran the PurgeCache script after the patch upgrade
    Please help
    M

    - You mean with OIM BP14 you have turned off the Revoke if no Longer applies feature of the Access Policy --- correct
    - What do you mean by OIM User is terminated ?? --- when a OIM user is disabled from a PSFT ER recon termination
    - users who are created after the AP change are getting disabled as expected, so it means even though the user was removed from the access policy group which had initially provisioned the PSFT account, the account is just disabled and not revoked ---- correct, the PSFT UM user profiles are getting disabled
    - but for users who are already in the groups prior to this change, if they are terminated from PSFT and lose their group membership, the PSFT user profiles are still getting revoked.
We want the PSFT user profiles to just be disabled

  • Lost User profile, permission changes and screwed up Time Machine.

    Hello.
I have had a pretty nasty 24 hours as my 6 week old MacBook Pro went down yesterday and I nearly lost everything.
My mac had gone to sleep while I was eating my christmas dinner and for some reason I had to hard restart a couple of hours later as it wouldn't respond. When it came to the log-in screen, my admin user account had disappeared so I logged in to my wife's admin profile and could see my user profile was still there under 'users' with the rest of the accounts. All permissions had been changed and I was locked out of everything.
I then proceeded to repair permissions and then boot from the Leopard DVD disc and nothing was happening to bring my user back. I couldn't add another admin user as it was reporting my hard drive as 0k available and not enough space to proceed.
I then found out that my Time Machine backups were screwed as well but I could still see the data (thank god) and have just re-installed Leopard, hesitantly, and manually transferred data (photos, work, etc) from the Time Machine external hd.
Has anyone experienced any of this behaviour with their machines? Should I be concerned because I have no faith in 10.5 at the moment after this.
The last thing I installed was the security update released mid-December.
Can anyone shine any light on what might have gone wrong?
    Kind regards.
    Damian.

Left for a year and it went unanswered.
I've moved on in my life since.

  • Why user profile gets corrupted or misbehaved?

    Hi,
EBS = 12.0.6, OS= AIX, Single node installation. During last 6 months, some of the users who were using 'FINANCE' modules were complaining about their access.Though they can reach upto the required form, tried to do search response is very slow or sometimes no response. When i created another user with same responsibity and tried to do the same action, it is ok. As a immediate solution, had to disable (end dated) the old user profile and given the new profile. How to diagnoise & resolve such problems? May be it a bug, etc?

    Hi,
During last 6 months, some of the users who were using 'FINANCE' modules were complaining about their access.Though they can reach upto the required form, tried to do search response is very slow or sometimes no response. Could you please elaborate more about this?
Did you verify if the debug is enabled at the user level for those users?
When i created another user with same responsibity and tried to do the same action, it is ok. Enable trace on the old users and generate the TKPROF file, this should help in finding out why it takes long time to process their requests.
As a immediate solution, had to disable (end dated) the old user profile and given the new profile. What profile you are referring to?
How to diagnoise & resolve such problems? May be it a bug, etc?Could be though I have not seen any similar issues on MOS website. Did you try to log a SR and confirm this with Oracle support?

  • My Firefox will not open at all. I can't even get in to my user Profile to change that and see if it helps. All of my bookmarks and passwords are saved there!

I did a Windows update this am. As soon as that was completed, my Firefox froze and wouldn't respond at all. I had to close it out. After I tried to reopen it, and it won't open at all. I try to uninstall it to reinstall and it says "Firefox must be closed to complete this task". I checked in my task manager and Firefox isn't running any more. I have shut down the computer a few times. I even did a restore to a previous day, and it still doesn't work. I am so stressed out. All of my passwords and bookmarks are saved there! Please help

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

  • Reader X crashes when user profile redirected to 2nd local disk

This issue is related to, and possibly a duplicate of, the Reader X Folder Redirection issue.  This is with Reader version 10.1.0 on Windows 7.  Reader version 9 works fine, and if we run Reader X in XP compatibility mode it also works fine, but then we lose protected mode operation.
In our Windows 7 deployments, there are two local disks (C: and U:).  For most users the profile is relocated from C: to U: and replaced by a junction point, for example "C:\Users\fred" is really a junction point to "U:\Users\fred". This is part of our user data backup/restore mechanism and a key part of how we manage Windows images for users.  This works well for most applications but we have found that it causes Reader X to crash with a MSVC++ runtime error similar to what others have reported in different circumstances.  Here is what we have observed so far.
    1.  Reader X will crash immediately when a user attempts to start it from the desktop or start menu.  Procmon suggests that this crash is related to errors encountered when the application attempts to access the user's temp folder (C:\Users\fred\AppData\Local\Temp) which is really on the U: drive.
    2.  Resetting the TEMP and TMP environment variables to "C:\temp" allows the application to launch, but...
    3.  Once Reader X is launched, some features will cause it to crash in the same way.  For example displaying preferences causes it to crash immediately (Edit/Preferences in the menu or using the Ctrl-K shortcut).  Procmon suggests this is related to the application trying to access the "C:\Users\fred\AppData\Roaming" folder which is really on the U: drive.
    4.  Reader X never crashes and works just fine if the user's profile has not been relocated from the C: drive to the U: drive.  But this only applies to a small fraction of users that we manage.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  I can provide Procmon traces if that might be helpful.

We were experiencing the same issue.
We solved this by creating a GPO:
First open your GP mangement console, edit the GPO to which this applies. (This is a user GPO, so make sure you are on the user Ou!)
    Edit:
    User Configuration\Preferences\Drive Maps
Add a new drive mapping, mapped to \\server\share\%username% (in our case we mapped to P:\)
On the Common tab, make sure the "Run in user context" is ticked.
Next create a shortcut (or multiple shortcuts)
    Edit:
    User Configuration\Preferences\Shortcuts
    Add a shortcut to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe (this is for Adobe Reader XI on Win x64; lookup your local path on the destination machines)
Change the start in to P:\ (the driveletter used in the drive mapping)
On the common tab also make sure this policy runs in the Logged-on user's security context.
This solved all issues at our end and we have this running with Adobe Reader X and XI
If you need to apply this to both Win x32 and x64 machines, you can apply item level targeting and choose the Operating system of choice. (If you add 2 OS'es, like Win 7 and Win 8, make sure that the option is OR and not AND).
    good luck

  • If profile of user will be changed ,does user needs  to be set password.

    Regards.

just have some bit confusion, i a user profile is changed, will it require to set  user password ? Please advise
No. Changing user profile is different than re-stetting the password.  When you change a user profile the password reset will depend on password_* attributes of a new profile.  Profile is a set of attributes that apply to the user. You can find different profile password_* attributes at  -

  • Deletion of Local User Profiles

    Hi,
I need to delete Windows 7 local user profiles and have the following requirements:
    1. Only to perform the deletion once
    2. Leave system (defautl, administrator and public) profiles in place
    3. Not to attempt the deletion when a user is logged on
I initially thought of a script linked to a computer start up gpo, but was wondering whether SCCM 2012 could do this and if so, whether someone could give me a few pointers?
    Thx
    IT Support/Everything

you should be able to delete user profiles provided that the local system account (the account that executes the script) do have the required permission.

  • Reorder User Profile properties in SharePoint 2013.

Hi, I have created custom user profile properties in SharePoint 2013 under User Profile Service Application, now I want to change the order of properties as well as also want to move OOTB properties and custom properties from one section to another section.
Is there any Power Shell command available to move properties between sections?
    Regards,

    Hi Prakash,
Use the script in this blog to retrive user profile properties from a certain section.

    # Dynamic Settings
    $mySiteUrl = "http://mysite.company.net"
    $findProperty = "PictureUrl"
Next, we needed to establish the server context:
    # Obtain Context based on site
    $mySiteHostSite = Get-SPSite $mySiteUrl
    $mySiteHostWeb = $mySiteHostSite.OpenWeb()
    $context = Get-SPServiceContext $mySiteHostSite
From the context we can instantiate a ProfileManager object and retrieve all of the SharePoint User Profiles:
    # Obtain Profiles from the Profile Manager
    $profileManager = New-Object Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.UserProfileManager($context)
    $AllProfiles = $profileManager.GetEnumerator()
    $outputCollection = @()
Next, we loop through the profiles and retrieve the account name (for identification purposes) and the property we are interested in finding:
    # Loop through profiles and retrieve the desired property
    foreach ($profile in $AllProfiles)
    $output = New-Object System.Object
    $output | Add-Member -type NoteProperty -Name AccountName -Value $profile["AccountName"].ToString()
    $output | Add-Member -type NoteProperty -Name $findProperty -Value $profile[$findProperty]
    $outputCollection += $output
Finally, we list out the collection items that do not have a value for the property (ie. null):
    # List all Accounts that do not contain the property
    $outputCollection | Where-Object {[bool]$_.($findProperty) -ne $true}

  • The User Profile Service service failed to Login user Profile error in Windows 7 Home Premium

    Hi,
I recently purchased a new Dell Inspirion 1564 Laptop which had Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed.
The hardware configuration is i5 core Processor, 4GB Ram , 320GB HDD and 512MB Graphics card.
Today morning, I couldn't login as the system returned the following error after I entered the password.
"The User Profile Service service failed to login.
    User Profile cannot be loaded"
I couldn't login at all as i had not created any other user account, even the face recognition didn't work.
I had to restore my pc to the previous state. I believe this happened after the installation of Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - March 2010 (KB890830) update, not immeditately though as i used the system few times after the installation of this update.
Is this a bug? I cant imagine if this happens if I am about to give a presentation, its going to be disastrous!
    Any help is appreciated

I'm getting the same issue - I'm the IT Manager at a school where every student has a laptop (fujitsu tablet T4410). This occurs to at least one new student every day. I have been unable to re-create the issue on demand, although I suspect it occurs when a temporary user profile gets created after the logon process takes too long (due to some disk activity, possibly related to windows updates or some thing). When we were creating student accounts on the machines, this would occur if we attempted to log in the newly created account before the computer had 'settled down' - it seems that there is a logon timeout, after which something stops working. If the new user's first logon happened too soon after booting, the profile would be corrupted. But this doesn't quite explain why it occurs seemingly randomly now.
My current solution is to boot into safe mode, back up the user's files, delete the account, create it again (the other suggested solutions on the internet did not work)
If you're desperate, you can log in while in safe mode, and use that to create a new account.
In any case, this is proving a very bad experience of Windows 7 for my students, and I hope to see a more useful fix for this soon.

  • Script to delete user profiles

I am looking for a script that could be ran either by logout or via ARD . The script needs to delete all user profiles stored on the local mac. except for the admin account and ladmin also an admin account Since all users have an AD account there is no need to keep the users profile. I tried to find a script but no luck I know almost nothing about apple scripts so I am lost. all mac computers are either tiger or panther. All mac clients are managed via a Lepord server also if that helps

  • User Profiles being created and not using existing

I have a Windows Embedded 8 thin client.  It will create a user profile when a user logs on and if they log off and log back on it will use the same created profile.  However if we restart the thin client and go to log on it will create a completely
new profile for the user. It does this every single time it is restarted and a user logs on.  So under the users folder it will have several copies of profiles for that user adding something to it each time.  Example: Username, Username.Domain, Username.Domain.000,
Username.Domain.001 We have turned off the netXclean to keep it from removing the user profile at logoff.  I have added the C:\Users folder to the write filter exclusion list to make sure it is allowed to write to that location.  What would cause
it to not use the exisiting user profile for a user and recreate one only after a restart?  It is a soft restart/shutdown we aren't hard powering off as I could see the user profile getting corrupted if that were to happen.

    Hi,
It seems like your account log as temporary profile. Please navigate to the registry below and delete the effected profile's subfolder for test.
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
Here is another thread that have multiple talking about Temporary profile, maybe helpful with your problem.

This sounds pretty unlikely but if in fact this is happening I would suggest you repost this in the Windows 8.1 General forum.

  • Server 2012 R2 RDS, User Profile Disks are created but local profiles are created as well. The UPDs aren't mounting correctly.

2012 R2 RDS Deployment with RDCB HA and UPDs enabled. Everything was working fine with no issues until users started getting temporary profiles. Around the same time UPDs were being created but at the same time a user profile was created in C:\Users.
I actually rebuilt the entire RDS configuration except the SQL Server. It took about 5 hours and was not that big a deal but.... we still have the same issue!
Does anybody have the solution for this?

    Hi,
In most cases, the issue is caused by locked UPD. And the workaround is to log off the user. Please check if it is the case.
    For example:
RDS user profile disks - getting error temporary profile are being used as UPD are not accessible

Also, please check if you will get the temporary profile when logging on with a local account of the session host server.
If issue persists, please check if there is any related error in Event Viewer and provide us for further research.
    Hope this helps.
