User Pwd
Hi,
We are making a copy of production to a new production server. During this process we are having an issue with user passwords being expired when every we do a copy to the new production landscape. just wondering wht is causing the problem and the remedy for it . We are currenlty on ECC 6.0 with single sign on..
Thanks,

password is getting expired in new server or in old server?
and if the users are Dialogue users it(pwd expiry) will definitely happen in new system(as a new logon in established).
you can set the users as service user, and try
by the way its a BASIS issue, consult basis guys..

Hi, I have an urgent issue on production ;).
We have just a small number of users currently live using EP 7.0.
Unfortunatly one of them lost/forgot his pwd. I tried now to set back his pwd in the user administration but the user receives no email although all ume settings are like that and the smtp is entered (in the UME configuration under System Administration).
Is there anyone outthere who knows the following:
1) is there a possibility to overwrite an user pwd....(so that I can communicate the pwd)
2) is there anything else that has to be configured so that notification works
Thanks a lot for your help
NicoleHi,
yes that is something which I have done already but here we have the issue.
1) I am not able to set a pwd by myself meaning a new pwd is created
2) although the ume is configured to send a notification when pwd is reset the user does not receive one....
(Tests showed that a notification is sent when a new user is created so our configuration is correct.)
That´s why I am asking whether there is a possibility to overwrite the pwd by myself not to reset the pwd.
Looking into the portal one can see that the entry field for entering the pwd is not active.
Thanks for your help

Sys user pwd Understanding as sysdba
os : linux
oracle : 10.2.0.3
I am able to connect sys as sysdba No problem.
on Server terminal : sys is working with any pwd as sysdba.
SQL> connect sys/gln as sysdba
Connected.
SQL> show user
USER is "SYS"
SQL> connect sys/a as sysdba
Connected.
SQL> show user
USER is "SYS"
SQL> connect sys/b as sysdba
Connected.
SQL> show user
USER is "SYS"
SQL>
However if we connecting thru tnsnames it is validataing not allowing.
How to understand this.
connect sys/anypwd as sysdba is just nothing connect / as sysdba ?
SQL> connect system/anypwd as sysdba
Connected.
SQL> show user
USER is "SYS"
So sysdba is not a previlege but a role?
pl. clarify.This fact is know as OS authentication, on a windows system you are connecting at the os level with a user that belongs to the database privileged group ORA_DBA and the windows authentication services is declared at the sqlnet.ora file.
On a unix environment it means your user belongs to the dba (or equivalent) privileged group -declared at install time- so as long as you connect locally you won't be requested to provide a valid password, but if you get connected remotely the only way to know you are a valid administrator is by means of the administrator's password (oracle password file)

VB 2008, CR component and MS Acc: how to access with database(not user) pwd
These are the detail of the query:
1. MS Access 2003 and later database via OLE DB provide for entry of a u201Cdatabase passwordu201D to provide additional protection.
2. In VB 2005 and in VB2008 environment I have managed to establish a connection with a database password and open recordsets using ADO connection. See code below.
Note. stPassword is user password and stDBPassword is database password with the following code:
With cnn
'set connection string
.ConnectionString "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Password=" & stPassword & ";Data Source=T:\CPI.mdb;User ID=" & stUser & ";Persist Security Info=False;" & "Jet OLEDB:System database=t:\cpi.mdw;Jet OLEDB:Database Password=" & stDBPassword
.Open()
End With
3. When using Crystal Reports component supplied with VS 2008 I can only provide USER NAME and USER PASSWORD. No information is available how and where to enter DATABASE PASSWORD to the Crystal Reports component. As a result, Crystal Reports Viewer starts to run. Obviously access is denied because no DATABASE PASSWORD has been provided to the component. A common dialog comes up to enter database password.
4. User does not necessarily need know the DATABASE password and I am not interested in providing the database password to every user who runs reports. In this project database password serves as a form of protection from tampering with the database structure and contents through the use MS Access to access the database.
5. Here is the code to demonstrate logon via Crystal Component described above:
Imports CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine
Imports CrystalDecisions.Shared
And then in a sub:
Dim cnnInfo As ConnectionInfo = New ConnectionInfo()
'cnnInfo.DatabaseName = cnn.DefaultDatabase
cnnInfo.UserID = stUser
cnnInfo.Password = stPassword
No place to input DATABASE password!!!
Does anyone know how can I input database password or provide a connection string or maybe ADO connection object which is opened within the project code.It seems like it is not possible to set the DB level password with the CR Visual Studio bundled version (as stated in the following KB c2010267). You would need to use the full version, and use the code below:
Symptom
A VB .NET application uses Crystal Reports for Visual Studio .NET as the reporting development tool.
A report is created that connects to a password protected Microsoft Access Database.
How do you pass a password (for database level security) or a password and user ID (for user level security) at runtime using the different connection methods(Native/ODBC/OLEDB)?
Resolution
To pass the database level password or a user level
userid/password at runtime, use the following code
sample:
'Add the following namespaces to the top of the code

Imports CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine
Imports CrystalDecisions.Shared
Dim crReportDocument As New ReportDocument()
Dim crConnectionInfo as New ConnectionInfo
Dim crtableLogoninfo As New TableLogOnInfo()
Dim CrTables As Tables
Dim CrTable As Table
crReportDocument = New CrystalReport1()
With crConnectionInfo
<**Insert code from below depending on the type of
connection and the version of Crystal Reports you are
using**>
End With
CrTables = crReportDocument.Database.Tables
For Each crTable in crTables
crTableLogonInfo.ConnectionInfo =
crConnectionInfo
CrTable.ApplyLogOnInfo(crTableLogOnInfo)
Next
CrystalReportViewer1.ReportSource =

Hide user/pwd when running sqlplus job via HOST cmd in oracle forms
I have a oracle procedure that returns the run_command string. Ex . sqlplus ui/pwd @report.sql. The run_command string returned by the procedure is run via the HOST command in oracle Forms.
HOST(run_command) submits the job but it exposes the ui and pa that is used in the run_command string. On UNIX, if I do ps ef | grep sqlplus after the job is submitted by the HOST command, I can see the ui/pwd in the run_command.
How can I submit the job via HOST command without exposing the ui/pwd ?
Thanks
GPOf course, the Operating System Authenticated account method should only be used if you are running this job on the machine with that's running the Oracle instance. You absolutely do not want to turn on remote authentication. If you're not on the same machine, I would suggest you put the credentials in a file and secure it with filesystem privileges. I generally use a single generic script initiator that logs on and then runs some other script specified on the command line. Something like ...
username/password
@&1Note: the extra "--/--" lines ensure that the script fails with invalid login if the credentials are wrong but they get interpreted as comments if the logon succeeds. -
Sqlplus hanging when connecting by specifying user/pwd
Hi All,
Oracle 11G R2 on WIndows 2008 R2
I have cloned a server, serverA, and created a new server, lets say serverB. Two things i changed for this serverB:
1) edited tnsnames entry so that the alias TST now points to this new serverB hostname (previously it was pointing to serverA)
2) deleted and recreated the listener
Now when i try to connect to my instance using sqlplus and the username/pwd, it hangs here:
D:\ORACLE\DATABASE\ORA11G\database>sqlplus sys/blahblhablhar@tst as sysdba
SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.3.0 Production on Tue May 7 15:18:36 2013
Copyright (c) 1982, 2011, Oracle. All rights reserved.If i try to connect using
D:\ORACLE\DATABASE\ORA11G\database>sqlplus / as sysdba - IT WORKS.
I tried to recreate my pwd file using orapwd and no luck.
Any ideas as to why i cannot connect using the first method? Also, when i try to connect to this instance using SQL developer from my laptop, it also hangs when i do the 'Test' button..??
Thanks in advance.

How does your company handle user pwd changes?
I would like to know how other companies handle user password changes with Sun One Portal Server 6.0. Do you have an option in the portal server window itself or do you direct users to a page on the directory server?
Just a little note
When you login into the portal server, you actually login to the Identity server (DSAME), and have a DSAME session, and when you logout from either amconsole or portal window you logout from the DSAME. The portal server uses Identity server for authentication purpose (if you see the login page you will notice the login action url is "/amserver/login" and the logout url is "/amserver/logout").

Being informed about invalid user/pwd from Authenticator
I set up a subclass of java.net.Authenticator to handle the user/password for proxy authentication. The proxy authentication is given by the user in some preference page. The authentication preference is part of the framework. My users are programmers that use URLConnection and subclasses. They should not care about authentication details but just be able to connect().
Now, when a user opens an URLConnection, the connect() call either succeeds or fails with a 407 if the password does not match. However, I don't want to give the users a 407 right away. In case of a wrong authentication information, I'd rather open the preference page again and let the application user enter the password again.
The password might be wrong due to an application user error, but also due to a changed proxy authentication, so a simple "test connection" on the preference page won't do the job.
So, my question is: How can the framework be informed that a 407 occured, intercept and retry the connect() without doing the actual connect() call? Can this be done with the java.net classes or do I have to let my users use a wrapper (I'd rather avoid this)?
MatthiasBI System User is the user OBI uses for internal communication. Once you change the password for that user, you need to make sure you change the password in the Credential Store as well. Refer: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/bi.1111/e10543/privileges.htm#CHDFHDBE
Make the change and see if that helps. -
I've been using WRT54GC wireless router for a several years. Recently I got to make some wireless settings changes, but unforturnately I forgot the username and pwd to login the router. Is there solution to get back in or reset it so I can login by default setting (i.e. no username and "admin" as pwd)???
Well the Default password for your Router is "admin" no Username. If its still not accepting admin password, and you dont remember the Router password. Then in this case you need to reset your Router and Re-Configure all the settings on your Router back again. Press and hold the reset button for 60 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 60 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

Does changing report connection at runtime require the same user/pwd used at design time?
I've recently integrated Crystal 13 into a web service to provide HTML reports served up within our web application. Sometimes reports would work and other times they would fail when attempting to connect to the database. The ConnectionInfo associated with the tables referenced in the reports bore the account info used at design time (in the Crystal IDE), what ever connection was set as the Datasource Location, this would include the server name, database name, and other attributes of the connection.
I found that any changes I make to table, sub-report connection info have no affect unless the UserID and Password match the UserID and Password saved with the report during design time. While generally searching online, I came across several references to this being and issue or suggestion when database connection problems dynamically running reports.
If this is by design?
How would I support customers who want to use my reports, but also require that they manage the db access accounts?
Thanks,
JeffHi Brian, thanks for the response.
It does make sense that subreports would not necessarily be constrained to the same connection as the container report, and the designer would not persist a password for any stored connection.
I'm on Windows 7 and up, Crystal 13 runtime, C# web service, sql 2008 r2 and up (native client).
After loading the report source, I call ReportDocument.SetDatabaseLogon to set userId, password, serverName, and databaseName pulled from web.config. I then pass the connection info and the ReportDocument to a recursive call that applies the connection info to each table in the report and each table in any subreport.
Based on your description, it sounds like I may be missing, and require, the SetDatabaseLogon call on each subreport (ReportDocument).
This seems to ring true and I think coincides with your description. Would you agree?
Thanks,

Caching user/pwd on websites
It takes me an awfully long time to log in to certain websites, and after half an hour or so it will time out and I will need to log in again.
How can I go about storing my id/password using Safari or keeping the website session alive?Unless the site offers a way to remember login by giving you a cookie then there is nothing you can do.
Session timeout by design.
The iPhone doesn't offer to remember passwords (which I feel would be a bad idea if they did. Much easier to lose or have your phone stolen than your PC so why would you want to risk haing it in somebody elses hands and able to access all your password protected stuff)

User/pwd @ hoststring
i've just installed the database (express edition) and the developer suite (10g) i can log in using the system account in the database but when i'm trying to connect with forms using the hoststring giving in the tnsnames.ora i can't, it gave an error with the net8, what i'm doing wrong??
In the following, I refer to 'client' as being the software that wants to connect to an Oracle database. The client in this discussion includes the 'Oracle Networking' client layer - aka SQLNet, Net8, etc.
The @host (more correctly, @tns-alias) tells the client to perform a 'TNS lookup' (very much like a DNS lookup).
1) The client will use the SQLNET.ORA file to determine where the lookup occurs - often (and by default) the lookup will be from the TNSNAMES.ORA.
By default, the TNSNAMES.ORA will be the one in the client's search path, under the client. The primary override is by setting the TNS_ADMIN environment variable to a directory that includes the preferred SQLNET.ORA and TNSNAMES.ORA
(Note that each Oracle software probably contains it's own ORACLE_HOME/network directory and it's own TNSNAMES.ORA file. It is very easy to get several different copies of TNSNAMES.ORA)
2) The lookup uses the alias as the 'index' to extract the connection information. The connection info includes the
- protocol (usually TCP/IP)
- the computer (usually a DNS-resolvable host name)
- the port to be used to connect to the LISTENER
- the name of the SERVICE or SID to whic the LISTENER is to establish a connection request
3) The client then attempts to contact the LISTENER on the host (on a specific port). Hopefully the LISTENER is UP as verified by the 'lsnrctl status' command on the target host.
4) The LISTENER checks whether it knows of the SERVICE (also displayed with 'lsnrctl status').
5) If the LISTENER knows of the service, it requests a process or thread for the client from that service..
6) If the service creates the thread or process, it will grab a new TCP port, and tell the listener.
7) The listener tells the client what has happened. The client then drops the connection to the listener and opens a new connection - this one to the thread or process.
Your problem can occur in many, many areas. We would need to get BOTH the error number AND the error message to determine exactly what is going wrong.
However, some common issues:
- old SQLNet clients simply can not connect to 10g (so we'd need to know the version of forms);
- multiple TNSNAMES.ORA files on the client machine, and you are using the wrong one;
- listener is not up, or multiple listeners are up and you are pointing to the wrong one;
- the tnsnames entry does not resolve to a correct service name (which doesn't need to match the alias);
- the database is supposed to self-register, but does not (perhaps because of a listener-port mispatch);
- SQLNET.ORA includes a 'default_domain' entry, which is appended to any @alias that does not have a '.domain' (eg: @alias.domain) before looking up in the tnsnames.ora file. -
Pwd Synchronization from AD to OIM to target user database
Windows account has been created in OIM from AD and those accounts have also been provisioned from OIM to multiple Oracle databases.
When changing the pwd of the Windows account, I expect the pwd of the Oracle account will also be changed in the databases that the account has been provisioned to. But, it only changes the pwd of the OIM account, not the pwd in the target user databases.
The 'Change User Pwd' task has been added in the 'Database User Login' proces. But it still doesn't work. Any idea of what goes wrong ?
