User saving a form in Acrobat 8.1 or later
I have created a form for users to complete and email the form to a central person, when the user opens the form they get a message informing them they cannot save or email the form in Acrobat 8.1 or later.
Can anyone help me understand how the user can save and email the form?
Do they have Acrobat? Or do they have the free Adobe Reader? What does the message say EXACTLY?

Saving dynamic forms in Acrobat Reader
How do you create PDF dynamic forms and save them so that they can be completed and saved in Acrobat Reader.
Thank you very much for your help. As I said this was my first attempt with Livecyle. I had sold the concept of dynamic forms to a collegue and promised to do a dynamic form one for him before going on a winter holiday. Completed the form in a hurry only to find I could not enable users with Acrobat Reader. My worry was that I would not be able to save dynamic forms without additional software, but your helpful comments confirm its something I have done that is causing my issue.
I think Livecycle is a great product, but fragmented information is available for individual users. Bought the Book PDF Forms Using LifeCycle Designer (Acrobat 9) and joined PDFscripting web service which are both good in there own way. I get confused with Adobe's help, not being IT techie and the difference of Enterprise Editions of LifeCycle on how to get the best out of LiveCycle.
Many thanks George for you assistance, I will retry when I return from my winter break. -
Best way to store user-saved searches/forms
Hello,
in our project, we want to give to our users ability to save form fields values for later use. It will be named the fast OR saved searches.
We have a relatively huge number of search forms, each one with specific fields. So I don't want, if possible, to use a distinct table for each form.
The good and logic way to design the table for this purpose looks like :
SAVED_USERS_FORMS (
USER_ID NUMBER,
-- corresponding user
FORM_ID NUMBER,
-- system wide unique form identificator (maybe varchar2 code rather than number?)
SAVED_NAME VARCHAR2,
-- name of the shorcut/saved form, by user
FIELDS_VALUES ???????,
-- saved fields key/values for PK (user, form, name) combination
PRIMARY KEY (USER_ID, FORM_ID, SAVED_NAME)
The hesitation here is : how to store the fields & values pairs?
- XML field?
- our custom text structure and formating representing something key => value
- our custom serialized java object into a field
I think that the EAV modelling technique approach can be a flexible way to achieve our goal, but as I read on the net there's an important set of downsides with this approach. But, this way, my table is something like:
SAVED_USERS_FORMS (
USER_ID NUMBER,
FORM_ID NUMBER,
SAVED_NAME VARCHAR2,
FIELD_NAME VARCHAR2,
FIELD_VALUE ????,
-- saved field key/values for PK (user, form, name, field name) combination
PRIMARY KEY (USER_ID, FORM_ID, SAVED_NAME, FIELD_NAME)
So the new problem can be the field FIELD_VALUE type enforcement. Do we need to have a field for each data type, so validation complexity can increase dramatically...
Do we need or is suggested to have in a way or another metadata tables describing supported form fields, datatypes, etc?
Other things to take into account:
* simple and scalable solution, heh, ye, please.
* what happens if the form evolve over time? the final solution must not crash or cause some kind of inconsistencies.
* ..... others ..... ?
Other info: we're using Oracle Database 10g, JDEV, JSF, ADF, Business Components.
thanks for any help or comments

Help please! Can't save a Livecyle 7 form in Acrobat 9
I've created a form for the first time using Livecycle 7. Little did I know this wasn't the latest version...
I've since discovered that within the organisation others users of the form have acrobat 8 and 9.
The users with version 9 are unable to save the form. Is there a way I can get around this?
Thanks! The form must be Reader Extended to allow this. Do you have Acrobat? If so you can Reader Extend it using Acrobat

Howdy Y'all
I have a client that needs a contract made up that can be emailed to clients for them to "fill in" and able to be saved to send back with all of the fields filled out. The original document was made in Word and I just exported it to a PDF and created the forms for user editing. Unfortunately, I was unaware that Reader versions of Acrobat were unable to save the docs (I'm kind of sheltered in that I have only used retail versions of Acrobat). We were hoping to use Acrobat since it's pretty much universal and the Reader is free.
Does anyone know of a way to create forms in Acrobat (vers. 8 Pro) that can be "edited" or have info input by another user with Acrobat READER and save them so it can be sent back? I already know how to create the form fields......I'm just curious if there is a way to FORMAT these fields or the document itself so that whatever is input into these fields can be saved on the client's end so it can be sent back.
The only other option is to send the Word docs that were originally made up but I'm afraid we would run into issues of clients not having Word to open the documents up.
Any suggestions?
TIAHere is the window you will see when you choose Enable Usage rights.
Note: That means that you can not edit any content once USAGE Rights are envoked.
So you must make sure all corrections to documents made and perfect before Envoking rights. -
Reader-enabled form from Acrobat is retaining interactive form fields when user saves the form
This is an issue that has only recently come up. In the past it was not a problem to take a pdf, add interactive form fields to it in LiveCycle, then open the form in Acrobat and enable usage rights for Reader users.
This allowed Reader users to fill out the form and save the results. With the most recent versions of Acrobat and Reader the user saves the form and the data AND the interactive form fields are saved in the resulting file - meaning that the data is still there to be changed. Clearly not what we want and not what Acrobat and Reader were doing previously.
The form does properly display "You can save data typed in this form" when opened in Reader.
I have got no response to this issue in the LiveCycle forum, and nothing shows up in a search. I would very much like to fix this, as it is affecting our entire library of pdf forms. In most instances the form is linked on the website, so the original form will cannot be overwritten.
In some cases we have to supply an interactive pdf for a department that they will then distribute by email to various groups who are expected to fill the form out on submit on an ongoing basis. That is what I was meaning by the user filling out the form, printing it, and then being prompted to save changes.
The bigger issue is that most of our users expect to take a form hosted on the website, fill it out, and then save a pdf copy of their responses for reference. The reference copy is retaining the interactive fields rather than printing as a static pdf.
If I could force the action of printing as a pdf (rather than saving as a pdf) on submission I think that would solve the issue. The script for most of the forms in the library is xfa.host.print(1, "0", (xfa.host.numPages -1).toString(), 0, 0, 0, 0, 0); and I am not aware of a way to force the print to only be to the pdf print driver. -
Mac User Cannot Use Form Created in Windows Acrobat 9.0 Pro
I have created a form and emailed it to a Mac user. He does not know what version of Acrobat he has or even if he is using a full version of Acrobat or Acrobat Reader (I tried to walk him through to check his version, but he could not find it).
He is using a laptop that is about 5 years old.
Anyway....I created this form in Acrobat 9.0 Pro. It works great for me...when I type in the fields, the text falls perfectly on the lines; the autocalculate works perfectly, and the RESET button works perfectly. When he opens the file, the text shows all below the lines, the autocalculate does not work at all, and neither does the RESET button. He sent it to another person, and they too could not use the form.
I have enabled the PDF so it can be filled out by Reader users and it is not in PDF/A mode, but it still is not working for him. I went to the library where they have a Mac and I was able to open it through Acrobat Reader 9 and again, I was able to fill the form out and it worked perfectly for me.
Would anyone be available (with a Mac) through email so I could send you the file to see if any Acrobat pros might be able to tell me what is wrong with it? I am absolutely frustrated to the points of tears over this. If you do not want to place your email here, I will give you mine so you can email me first ([email protected]); just let me know here that you are emailing me so I know to check email rather than check here.
Thank you!
LauraHe's probably not using either Acrobat or Reader. The Mac comes with a built-in PDF viewer named Preview and it has limited support for PDF forms. It even corrupts them when it saves. It should definitely be avoided. Fortunately Reader is freely available, you just have to get him to install it.

Saving a fillable pdf form as a non-fillable pdf form in Acrobat
Hi all,
I have created a form from Acrobat Pro 9 and I would like users to be able to fill out the fields, be able to edit, save it and email them back to me. Although, once it is sent, I would like the form to be locked and non-fillable.
Is this possible in Acrobat Pro 9?
Thank you in advance.Use digital certificate signature to lock the fields.

Users saving half completed forms
I have set up my enquiry form which our users complete and submit to me via a butoon (XML). they are mainly using adobe reader to view the form. If they are half way through the form and they wish to save it and continue filling it in later they cannot do this. They can only submit it to me half completed as XML.
Is there a way they can save the form and come back to it later and continue filling it in?
Many thanksThanks Paul.
Could you just clarify the bit about 500 users. If each user is saving the form and using it over and over (submitting it everytime they have a new enquiry) does this count as one user, or is it everytime they submit the form?
i.e. can 500 people use this form (with the save option) over and over again, or is it just the first 500 times the form can submited when it can be saved?
Many thanks -
Informing the user if someone has entered all the fields & saved the form
Hi All,
I am having many forms on my website where the user first fills in the pdf form and then save it and print it and then sign it and fax back to us. Now my concern here is that I want to know how many users have saved the form after filling in all the information or atleast how many of them have saved the form. Is it possible? and if it is, let me know how can I do that
Thanks,
NimeshWell, you could put an action that submitted form information to your
web site. But this is considered an invasion of privacy, so the user
has to choose that they are willing to send the information.

Saving a Form created in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro
We create forms for the company to use with Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, but because others do not have Acrobat 9 Pro they can not save the document after they have filled out the form. This is causing a big issue for us. Does anyone know a way that we can create a Form in Acrobat 9 Pro that allows others to fill it out using just the plain version of Adobe (guessing they only have Reader) and then they can save it to their desktop?
You need to apply the Extended Reader Rights to it from the Advanced menu in
Acrobat. -
Could someone help me figure out why after saving a form some subforms are hidden again
I am asking this on behalf of a coworker. We have a form she is working on with a drop down (ddlDropDown) with 1, 2, and 3 listed (same values,,1,2,3) That trigger hidden subforms to appear (Employee1, Employee2, Employee3). Initially, Employee1 is visible. If form user selects 2 or 3 in the dropdown then Employee2 and Employee3 become Visible. Once the form is filled in, saved, closed and reopened Employee2 and Employee3 are hidden again even though the dropdown says 2 or 3. The script behind the dropdown's change event is:
subSELECT.Employee1.presence=this.rawValue==1?"visible":"hidden";
subSELECT.Employee2.presence=this.rawValue==2?"visible":"hidden";
subSELECT.Employee3.presence=this.rawValue==3?"visible":"hidden";
I have tried adding this code to the form's initialize, docReady, preOpen, postOpen, layout:ready events but it still doesn't work.
Any ideas? Here is a sample I created based on your comments and it works just fine for me after saving the form.
Employee2 and Employee3 subforms have their presence property set to hidden. I have the script in the exit event of the dropdownlist.
Here is the sample:

Adobe 9 issues with forms in Acrobat Reader 7
I've been reading up on this forum as to why the adobe rights are disabled after a user saves their data in Reader. I have been adding form fields in Adobe Standard 9 then save the file, test it in Reader, then Extend the Forms Fill-In for Adobe Reader and save the file with a slightly different name. The only usage rights that are allowed is to Save Form Data. When I test the file in Reader 7, I can save the data but when I go into the document to make sure my data is there, I get that dreaded and popular message "Adobe Rights have changed and are no longer valid dialog box...
I never changed the original extended file to cause this..even when I don't add data but save to a new file anyway I lose the writable functionality.
A side note, I do not use LiveCycle and have been asked not to when creating these forms.
I did not have any problems with the forms that I had other people create and extend in Adobe Pro 8. It seems to be a Standard 9 and Pro 9 problem. Or, it could very well be me!
I use Reader 7 to test because these forms are for a volunteer organization and there are users on some early versions of Reader. II do not use earlier versions of Reader. This doesn't seem to be an issue in Reader 9. I cannot vouch for Reader 8.
I just had one of my form writers take my form that was done in Standard 9 and Extend Forms Fill-In via Adobe Pro 8. She initally received a message stating that the file appears to use a new format and it may not open or display correctly. I then got that same message when opening the extended version of the file. The document rights on the new form allow me to add comments and markup, a digital signature and save form data. Once I fill out the fields and try to save, also get another dialog box telling me that I need Adobe Standard or Professional to save (in this case it was 7 since I'm testing in Reader 7).
The forms that I am creating are initally PDFed by another party. The orignal forms are created in QuarkXpress 4.1 and PDFed using Acrobat Distiller 4.0 for Macintosh. I retrieve the files from a web site and save them to my hard drive to work on them. They are shared via email.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've spent the last week researching but no anwers to help me solve this particular issue with 9.Interesting. I did just do the Reduce File Size and extended the document and there were no dialog boxes when I saved my data. The file size got larger instead of smaller and I received the message at the end of the Reduce File Size cycle that said " Enforcement of compatability to an earlier version of Acrobat has increased the size of some images". There is an image in the file, not one that I added, but from the original document. No change to the image either. No biggie to me. As long as my users can fill out the form and come back to it later to make changes, I'm happy!
Thank you. I think that solved it!

Support for Sybase SQL Anywhere databases
Is there support for Sybase SQL Anywhere databases available? Specifically, using an ODBC connection. Sybase, curiously enough, does not want to develop specific drivers for connection to its databases; instead, it relies on an outside source (ODBC)
