User Settings All Lost

Please Help,
I am trying to install Photo Shop Elements 3, it installs ok, but I keep getting errors when I try to start the program - "Could not fully start the application because of invalid personalization information."
So I followed Adobes instructions - http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/326496.html
But still got the same error.
So I logged into Administrator and installed from there, all went ok again.
Now I get "Can't find workspace folder"
and now all my settings in my user login are gone , all my startup programs , the deskttop image, safari's preferences and who knows what else. Mail wants to setup as new.
Oh what has happened ...
Please Please Help
Rodney.

I tried first, installing in my normal account, 3 Times. But it would give me the error "Could not fully start the application because of invalid personalization information."
So than I tried to install in Administrator account, it still would not work.
Now when I log in to my normal account , all my settings are gone, Mail, Safari everything . Now it wont keep any settings between reboots.
There must be a way of resetting, I can see all my info in libary eg email address, widgets etc
iTunes still has all my purchased music and podcasts, but it wants to go thru the start up. also
I did not change the user name in finder
I have run disk utility and repaired disk permissions twice and verified the disk. This shows no problems.
What can I do ???

  • User Settings lost after session is released

I am having a problem with the User settings being lost after the user logs off the system.
menu settings, fields displayed in Marketing  Documents,  displayed User Defined fields and the
sequence of User defined fields get lost after the session ends.  This does not happen to all users,
just some users.  The users that keep losing their settings keep losing their settings,  the ones that do not have a
problem seem never to have a problem.
has anyone else experienced this problem and if so, how has it been resolved?
    Thanks in Advance!!!

  • Lost all User settings / presets

    hi
    Using LR 2.2
on MacBook Pro / Leopard 10.5
    worked great so far.
just finished a long development session, went through lots of pictures.
After quitting LR I seem to have lost all my user settings, like my development settings, the metadata presets and the export presets.
    the catalog seems fine otherwise.
any idea what happened here ?
    thank you
    b.

It would appear that when you "change" this setting, Lr can no longer see the old settings since it's now looking in the wrong place. I would bet that any NEW presets you created AFTER changing to "save with catalog" would be remembered by Lr.
The question is: When changing this setting, is there something that has to be done in order to get the old presets to re-save to the new location? My thinking is that when you change the setting, Lr does not automatically save the presets to the catalog since they're already saved elsewhere -- i.e. it doesn't realize that it has to re-save them again in order to see them the next time Lr is started.
I'd be interested in hearing any further info on this.
    Thanks,
    Larry

  • All user account settings missing/lost after reboot

    MacBook Pro
    10.4.10 Tiger
I logged into my admin user account, one of the 2 accounts on this system (the Guest account is the second one), and noticed my wallpaper had been reset to the system default. Also, the dock was not as I had set it. I then started Mail. Mail came up as if it had not been run before, wanting to run through the set-up procedure. Other applications behaved the same.
Please help! How can I restore my user settings?

If I go to /Users I see three (2) folders: Guest and Shared and an alias with the FileVault symbol with my administrator username. In summary /Users looks like,

  • Tiger Killed All User Settings & Registrations: Recovery Ideas?

Booted up today to find every single user setting hosed. Dock was in default setting with bad app links, all bookmarks on Firefox gone, all email settings erased. All software registrations nada. The works.
System was shut down normally last night. I regularly maintain with Cocktail and Disk Utility.
    Repairs begun:
Disk Warrior, which found some issues and repaired (apparently unrelated to the problem at hand). Then ran Disk Utility, no problems found. Still hosed.
I had been running Tiger for about two weeks, installing 10.4 from DVD and upgrading by the book. Have now returned to the safety of 10.3.9
Anyone heard of this issue, or have any suggestions on what happened or how to return to original? As this was a test of the new OS, my backup was the prior system. So only some bookmarks and outgoing mail lost. Obviously I’m not impressed with the stability of Tiger.

    "
From what you are saying, it would appear (at least to me) that your User Preferences Folder got hosed. "
From the little inspection that I did (in order to retrieve data not backed up), the user settings were not deleted ... but were sidestepped. In the bookmarks for Firefox, for instance, a blank bookmarks.html file was created, while the saved ones were re-labeled bookmarks-1.html, -2 etc.
Not sure how the software registrations were "lost".
I can see the advantage in a clean install. I did this with Panther upgrading from Jaguar, and moved my registrations, passwords, etc., file-by-file. (Some registrations aren't written down and have to be moved). It's time consuming but possible. Time is money, and Tiger's time-saving enhancements have just been nulled by this sudden maintenance issue. Next year when I have time I might give Tiger another go.

  • Disabling "User settings" option from all the WDA applications.

    Hello Experts,
We have implemented SRM business package. We want to disable right click "User settings" option from all the applications presented in SRM BP.
I know a way of disabling "User settings" by passing WDDISABLEUSERPERSONALIZATION  parameter. We dont want to follow this approach as there are many applications and it would be difficult to change all the applications.
My question is do we have any settings ( may be in sicf ) which could disable "User settings" centrally for all WDA application on that particular server?
    Thanks

  • WDJ - Right click- User settings , not working at all times

We are working on SAP Netweaver 7.4.
We have developed WDJ applications in PO server and are displaying the application in SAP EP using the remote iview method.
Our requirement: We need to show the users , right click ->User settings so that they can modify the view.
Steps taken: The allowuserpersonalisation has been set to True.
    Issue:
Not all of the remote WDJ application are showing the User settings.
For e.g: If it is working for WDJ application A, it is not working for WDJ application B.
Here is where it gets more confusing !!!:
If role A contains WDJ application A and role B contains WDJ application B.
    then:
    1) if WDJ application B is assigned to the role A, then the User settings start working for it
    2) if WDJ application A is assigned to the role B, then the User settings still work for it
    3) if WDJ application B is assigned to the role C, then the User settings do not work.
    Can anyone please help?

    Hi,
normal right mouseclick is disabled as of 710 I guess, I assume you mean the ctrl+alt+right mouse click, right?
Also , I am not sure I fully understand your A-B-C example. Can you please elaborate it in a less abstract way? Can you show concrete examples what is not working regarding the end-user personalization? Are all wd java applications running in a non-standalone way when you test end-user personalization?

You have 14 days to return the computer w/no questions asked.  Plus you have 90 days of FREE phone tech support on top of your standard 1 year warranty unless you also purchased AppleCare which gives you an additional 2 years of coverage plus FREE phone support.
Strongly suggest that you take FULL advantage of the above before it runs out.  Let Apple deal w/the problems.

  • If I use airport utility to erase my time capsule will all my settings be lost? Does "import configuration" work well?

If I use airport utility to erase my time capsule will all my settings be lost? Does "import configuration" work well?

Erasing the Time Capsule's internal HDD, via the AirPort Utility, will NOT affect the TC's configuration settings. However, if your intent is to completely remove these settings as well, you will want to perform a "factory default" reset on the TC to do so.
If you first export the configuration, you can always import it back in after the reset to get you back up and running quickly.

  • After restart, all user settings are gone and reset to defaults

Hi after waking up my iMac from sleep today, it appeared something had gone wrong (apps not responding…notification that my external drives had "not been ejected correctly" etc). I restarted. After restart, and logging back in to my regular user account, all user settings were missing and reset to factory defaults: Desktop reset to the "wave", Dock reset, Download folder missing (grey question mark), Dropbox unable to connect, Safari bookmarks missing (but still on my iPhone-- so it's a local iMac problem, not an issue with iCloud), small things like mouse scrolling prefs reset etc.
Basically all of my user preferences are missing. I've seen a number of threads about how to fix some of these items individually, but seems like there is a single corrupt preference file somewhere maybe?
I've repaired permissions a few times (there were a lot), and restarted but nothing has fixed it yet.
I had been logged out of iCloud, but once I logged back in, my Mail came back (just my me.com account-- still missing my Gmail, will need to reset I guess), along with Calendar and Contacts-- those are ok.
I keep all my files on an external LaCie RAID, and that all appears to be fine. Folders all intact etc.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks for your help!

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

  • User Settings Not Saved

    Hello,
I am using the VB .Net Autoupdater for my app, its working perfect however.
Lets say I am using version 1.0.0.10, Initially when the app ran after I installed it I had to fill in a bunch of user settings via a form a created.
I can close the app, re-open it and the user settings are saved, all is good. Now
I need to make a change and now have version 1.0.0.11 I use the autoupdater and it pulls down the .exe file overwrites the existing .exe.
Now when I launch the app again, the correct version is used however I have to re-enter my user settings again.
How can I preserve my user settings without using a Click Once install?
    Thanks
    MW

    Sure,
I'm always open to learn new ways of doing something.
    Thanks

Ok, have a look at the code that I posted on a page of my website here.
It's very specific to what you want saved and how it's to work, so that's what you'll see: It's very much customized to what he wanted.
One important part is what you'll see early on:
    Private Shared _instance As Settings
    and this:
    Private Sub New()
    End Sub
Those are private, so only that class can access it. The backing field (variable) is shared so that it's relevant to the class as a whole, not to any instance of it; that is -- there can only ever be one instance of it.
The constructor is parameterless and PRIVATE, so that the consumer of that class can't create an instance; that's only done through the shared method meant to do it:
Public Shared Sub GetInstance(ByRef instance As Settings)
    See what I mean?
Still lost in code, just at a little higher level.

  • User settings reset and locked out of user folders ! How do I retreive?

    Hi everyone,
I'm sure a number of people here on the forums have come across the problem with the blue tint that appears every now and then. It usually appears when connecting an external monitor after the you come back from the screen saver.
Yesterday it happened for the first time without an external monitor connected. I have found a number of sites that have suggested using the command 'sudo chmod 664 *' within the Terminal. I have used it a couple of times to fix this problem but it did not work hence the reason it happened yesterday without a monitor connected. When I did use this command previously I first entered
    cd /library/colorsync/profiles/display
When i did it for this occassion i forgot to enter the display folder first.
After this I did a restart and all my user settings were reset and I was locked out of all my user folders. I lost all my desktop settings and everything was back to when I first started my computer.
I did some hunting and found the command 'sudo chmod 777'. I tried this then did a reset and my desktop background returned and the folders were unlocked.
What I want to know is if this is the correct command to bring everything back to normal?
My user permissions in terminal are listed below

    Does this look correct ??
Any help would be great thanks

I assume this access is open to everyone when I connecto any wireless network
No necessarily, it depends whether you just changed your home folders and nothing else.
But just your home folders present a problems as they should have extended attributes which are now removed. More on that later.
Using one chmod to a directory affects all equally, though the files may have individually different permissions.
I don't know how extensively you have altered the modes permissions, but from what you have shown in your first post your Home folders are incorrect.
For your home folder, which is the default location when you start Terminal, and I dont think you have strayed from there, all the listings, except Parallels are folders, prefaced with the letter d. for folder.
On my machine, for example, the pattern for the home folders all show
    drwx------@ 5 xxxxxx staff 170 25 Jun 06:07 Desktop
normally that would be chmod 700 Desktop which will get you
    drwx------
but note the @ which shows an extended attribute or ACL in Leopard.
to write the ACL shown as @
    You will need to read
man chmod about ACL MANIPULATION OPTIONS
Personally, I think that playing around with chmod without a backup was not a good idea, and I wonder if your ambition has exceeded your knowledge. Sorry if that sounds tough, but a possible Archive and Install may be your safest path I think because what you have messed with was no small oops with a simple fix.
You could just change those home folders to chmod 700 and see how it goes without the attribute, or bite the bullet and do an Archive and Install.
I do not run parallels and so have no idea what is permissions should be.
That Time capsule is starting to look pretty good now

  • Proxy Settings Are Lost

I have several Mac clients that run OS X (10.6-10.8) and all are configured to access the internet via the same proxy server.
Within System Preferences, each user has their proxy server login details saved - no problem there.
Periodically (and not down to user password changes), the settings are lost and the users then have to set up the login details again to get out onto the internet.
Can anyone explain why the System Preferences would lose these details?

Hi Gary, kind of a long shot, but I suspect a past network connection is coming into play.
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
    Fill in the Proxy again.

  • Where are EAS 11.1.2.3 user settings stored?

Where are the EAS 11.1.2.3 user settings, Essbase servers, etc., stored. I have some users who are telling me that sometimes when they login all of their settings are gone and they have to set everything up again. We have EAS on 3 servers in a clustered environment so when you login to one EAS and set up servers, those servers are available if you login to EAS on a different server. This led me to guess that they're stored in the Foundation Services repository but I can't find anything in any of those tables.
    Thanks.
    Jerry

Well, more digging and more information. Not quite to the detail I was hoping to find, but getting closer.
I found instructions on using the orapki utility to display the contents of cwallet.sso. This doesn't really show much though. I can tell there are 6 EAS users but not any more than that.
I found a java program that displays more of the information contained in cwallet.sso including passwords. It's a bit disconcerting that it's so easy to display encrypted passwords. Other than the passwords, this didn't give me any more information.
I got the most information from Enterprise Manager. Viewing the credentials for the EPMSystem, I can actually find who the users are. If the users have saved custom views, I can see those. I still can't see what servers are defined for each user if they aren't in custom views. I think this can help me determine what changes are happening and if custom views are getting lost. I will need to take a snapshot before and after each time I restart EAS to see if there are any differences.

  • Disk/Permissions Repaired, User Info/Data Lost

This is my first mac, switched from windows a few months back. Today my machine crashed severely (while working in ical), so I did a hard reboot. When the machine came back on, there was an icon in the middle of the screen alternating btw a ? and a folder. I used the install disk to verify/repair the drive (no partitions), and the utility showed lots of disk errors. Eventually, however, it said everything was all good, I logged back on and...
All my personal user settings are gone, all my personal library data (iphoto, itunes etc) is gone. The other user on the system's files seem fine. There is a lost+found folder with some stuff in it, but I haven't the foggiest about how to go about using it...it seems to just have font related files in it.
Based on the disk usage statistics I'm guessing my stuff is there somewhere, just am not sure where. "locate" isn't working, I can't seem to run the db build script.
Can anyone help me narrow down the options?
    Thanks,
